    How to succeed from the first job interview to the second in Norway? Complicated, but here is a great tutorial. This is an educational and entertaining video. We cover everything from dress code to how you should interact and communicate, what kind of topics you should talk about, how you should prepare for the interview, inside tips and advices and we will explain the main purpose of the first meeting in the end of the video. We will also describe the big NO, NOs - invisible, cultural rules you must know about before your first encounter. As a foreigner, it´s easy to make mistakes. If you follow the advices, we can almost guarantee they will call you back for a second time.
    The job situation is illustrated and dramatized through a couple of play mice, a paper doll, a small hipster figure and candy. They represent a real-life job interview. They play the HR leader Berit, Head of technical department Lars and Oda, a project assistant. Rob is summoned to a job interview as an IT employee. He makes all the mistakes, but with some guidance he pulls it off in the end. He is played by to different characters. Ronald tries to explain the different norms, Mads complains and think it’s too complicated in the beginning, but get the facts straight in the end. You will too.
    In addition to the do´s and don’ts, you will learn a lot about the Norwegian mentality, culture, job ethics and how we cope with work life balance.
    The content and advices in this video are based on many years of experience, research, and relevant dialog and discussions with foreigners applying for a job in Norway.
    ** ABOUT YOURWAY2NORWAY **
    YOURWAY2NORWAY is a different travel channel. We combine education with humor and entertainment. It’s an authentic inside guide to real life in Norway. We highlight small and large themes, cultural characteristics and Norwegian phenomena. All the stuff you won’t find in a tourist brochure.
    The content is perfect for people who travel to Norway as tourists, visit friends and family in Norway, study in Norway or work in Norway. It is ideal for anyone with Norwegian roots and DNA. It is also interesting for anyone who wants to learn more about other cultures and people. And for all of you looking for some smile and laughter.
    The guys behind are; Ronald Sagatun - a enthusiastic and sarcastic Sami Latino with a Norwegian passport. Throughout his life he has tried to find out what it means to be Norwegian. Now he shares his hilarious experiences. Mads is grumpy Norwegian dude, providing the channel authenticity and the typical Norwegian way of viewing the world. We always try to be funny, self-deprecating, human and, when it´s necessary; sincere and passionate.

    Wonderful advice no matter what country you're applying for a job in. You should be interested in the company you're hoping to work for. Bragging about your accomplishments is always a no no. You can let them know what you hope to bring to the table without tooting your own horn. I began a new job in January. During my interview they asked what I was looking for. I replied, "I want to find work I love until I retire or die, whichever comes first. If you hire me and I'm happy here," I looked at the HR man, "You may have to pry my cold, dead hands off of the freezer door!" Without skipping a beat he answered, "Oh no, that's Louise's job!" Knew I wanted to work there immediately. We laughed and the outcome was, I got the job and am very happy. I love my job and poor Louise may have a very unpleasant task to perform some day!

    It’s a bad sign, in my experience, if a company expects you to hang out with your coworkers after work or on weekends. I would run NOT WALK. Here in the US such a company culture means that your life belongs to us and you’re never “off” work.
    If you make friends with your coworkers and hang out with them AFTER you were hired, that’s different.

    • @YOURWAY2NORWAY
      @YOURWAY2NORWAY  5 лет назад +7

      Yes, agree with you. Luckily you are not expected to hang a lot, just for mid years parties and team stuff. But many norwegians are friends with their co-workers, so the culture get influenced by this

Nowadays it is a 2 or 3 interview process with one or 2 individuals doing the asking. To be honest, I am trained with 30+ years experience in the restaurant & hospitality industry and i f I am seeking a job it means that I NEED it Now, and not 2 weeks from now! Love this, I think my country (Australia) is an interesting mix of both things you guys describe. Boasting is a no no, showing what you can offer the company and your research on the job is most important and being humble and modest. What you can offer them is the main thing & showing you know the company and what they do/stand for & how you'll fit in perfectly to their culture. Making them laugh is a winner too. However, we work way too long and hard, often for no money, unpaid overtime is way too big, a bit like Japan, so saying you'd work 12 hours a day would be loved. It's a crazy country here, way crazier than Norway I think......you two are so much fun!

    Hi, Ronald and Mads,
    Loved this video, as it was very enlightening, showing how far employment in the U.S. needs to advance...
    Engaging with a boss outside of work is usually viewed negatively, as it interferes with employer/employee relationship.
    Some employers here will secretely check on the applicants' social media pages and if they find something they dislike, it can negatively affect the interview outcome. Work hours in the U.S. can be brutal for salaried personnel. 80-100 hours a week (including weekends) is not unusual. To turn down the work can mean loss of job. I've known employers who've expected employees to answer e-mails and calls while on vacations.
    Speaking of which, you two should do a grand tour of the U.S. Your subscribers would most likely house you, and you could introduce yourself to all of our foods, home made and otherwise!
    Keep the videos coming. We need more screen time for Mads. Your videos have certainly entertained us, to the extreme, even on more serious topics. Ronald's explanations are informative and hilarious. When will you put out a feature length film?
    We love you two!

    Thank you for this. I'm currently trying to apply for jobs in Norway. So a brilliant video. Here in the UK I work for the HMG (Her Majesties Government). I also am an interviewer. We have a panel of three and interviews are very formal and structured. All questions are competence based and you have to answer them demonstrating what you have done in the situation we have asked about. All three will ask questions and the chair (me) will cover off anything missed we may also delve deeper if we are interested or to help you answer better 👍. So jobs you will also have to sit an assessment centre, so a presentation of a subject you get 15 mins before hand, interview on that, a written of maths test. Like writing a paper of building a spreadsheet to solve a problem. Then another formal interview and sometimes a group exercise. How the hell I got a job and to were I am today I'll never know. Fingers crossed I can get a job in Norway 🤔

    So funny! 😂 I’ve talked to many locals and it’s basically like that.. the most important thing is chemistry. Work life balance is so important and I love that! People are way happier because of it, everything is at slower pace. Working from 8 am to 7 pm.. what?? Nei nei! 😂 There’s so much more work offers in Norway, the Netherlands is overpopulated and getting a job is hard and you’ll need to brag your way into even getting an interview, though in Norway you’ll need the language in most cases, there’s a lot more question for employees in many professions. I’m looking into moving to Norway, I absolutely love it there, it feels more at home than my own country 😍. Trying to move my creative business that way... which is another challenge, but let’s see! 😘❤️🇳🇴

    • @YOURWAY2NORWAY
      @YOURWAY2NORWAY  5 лет назад +2

      I think all people from Netherlands are potential candiadtes in Norway - if you dont need to talk Norwegian all the time (public work, healthcare etc)You would fit right in! Norwegian would not be a problem for you to learn!! Sorry we did not have time to meet up - its been a busy spring.

    Loved this, pretty funny! In the southwestern US (New Mexico, where I live, but also Arizona and California) the level of formality in dress is generally "casual business" unless you're going for upper-level business or management which would be suits and a tie or a nice dress for women. Generally there's also only one interviewer and directly in charge of the position you're applying for. You'll be asked about general experiences you've had, anything that stands out on your resume, and almost always they'll ask silly things like, "what's your greatest weakness?" (and you're meant to say something vaguely not that bad while turning it around into a positive). In upper management and business, they want to know how good you are at schmoozing and if you're a team player (generally, will you work late without being paid overtime, or help people with things outside your main job description).

    Hei Ronald and Mads. This is great- so funny, I love the 'workplace' setting and love Rob in 'casual clothes' lol! Things have changed, I remember an interview in Oslo in the early 1980's, as I shook the interviewer's hand he clicked his heels together, you would never see Norwegian male do that now! Very old fashioned. In the U.K. you are generally expected to wear a business suit and are often quite formal. The difference here is that you are expected to sell yourself. A long running joke is that you may be asked 'Where do you see yourself in ten years?' Ha!
    Another entertaining vid. Tusen Takk.

    These days in the U.S. you don’t need to wear a suit mostly but you should look “smart”. You also need to “brag”‘about yourself some - not too much but they want to see confidence - and KNOW about the company before the interview. PLEASE create more videos!!! In the U.S. right now our country is a MESS and we need things that make us laugh 🤪

    You have brought up a very serious issue plaguing the U.S.A. I am 57 years old and am very sad to have watched the degradation of the prosperous life Wisconsin used to offer families. The working culture in southern Wisconsin has changed negatively and dramatically in the last 30 years since all the manufacturing jobs moved overseas (or Mexico) and working family farms have been sold off. Now the modern employers want employees who work long, crazy hours and don't whine about abuse and lower wages. Most employers don't care a bit about employees outside life and providing a good workplace environment. Healthcare benefits offer extremely poor care because the insurance company's charge too much. Employers do not want to pay for good coverage. Expensive college degrees might help get a good job but the employees must use their paychecks to pay back the school loans. 90% of middle class families (which is the class of people in America supporting most of the American economy through taxation of wages, property and purchases) have both Mom and Dad working, leaving children to be raised by other people, who likely do not have the same living standards, spiritual morals and family values that Mom and Dad do. The cost of living keeps going up but wages do not match the inflation. Without strong family units and healthy minded communities, our society can only continue to lose financially, physically, spiritually and morally.
