Can you give the measurement for the nut height? From what I can tell from the video, you have .024 .022 .020 .018(?) .019 .016 from low to high E after the adjustments. Can you give us a reference here? Thank you so much.
Love sweetwater products and vids keep it up dudes thanks for the lesson.

Greetings. What grit(s) are recommended for hand sanding the saddle? Thanks.
1 - Visually inspect guitar for damage and obvious problems.
2 - Check nut groove height. Simple method of fretting 3nd fret and checking string height at 1st fret.
3 - Check truss rod relief. The how is missing. You didn't press any fret or check any string height. You pressed the strings down without fretting any which would not tell you about truss rod relief.
4 - Record string height.
5 - Adjust truss rod. Quarter turn, retune.
6 - Check truss rod relief. Press down on 13th fret and check string height in middle.
7 - Record string heights.
8 - Fix nut issues.
9 - Measure action at 12 fret in playing position.
10 - Remove strings.
11 - Adjust saddle.
12 - Clean fretboard and frets.
13 - Check machine heads.
14 - Polish guitar.
15 - Restring.
Finally, somebody who puts the guitar in playing position to measure relief and action height!
Man, this is how it's done! Great job. I had my Taylor set up when I bought it a couple years ago at GC. The tech may have done a little filing on the nut but that was it. $100 after buying the Taylor and he didn't do much. I had someone else go over it and he agreed.
A very well-made and informative video. I've been playing acoustic guitars since 1959 and learned things I never heard before. Thanks.
Sweetwater has really upped their youtube game recently. Top quality content and consistent production across the board for all their recent efforts. Clearly Mitch & Company have a master plan in place for youtube and they're executing it well thus far. Nice work folks....
Yeah, that’s cool and all, but maybe they can work on stopping sales associates from blowing up peoples’ voicemail and email inboxes for weeks after purchasing one set of $8 guitar strings
…also, better candy. Idk which Grandma employee oversees their candy they choose, but dang put a dang starburst in there or something.
Probably the greatest video about setting up a guitar. Excellent
Done my own before but makes me see how a real Luthier with the proper tools can do an excellent job!
LOOOOOOOVED this! So much great info and it really does make me impressed with Sweetwater to have such a knowledgeable and talented luthier on staff!
I just need a tiny bit of truss adjustment but I'm going to watch this and several more guitar videos because I'm enjoying then way too much 😂
Give this guy a raise!
There is a lot more to it, than you see on other videos.. Thanks for the video...
when you close your eyes anf listen, it's like seth rogen is teaching you about adjusting the string action
More of this please
No
Bye 😭
Not really but ok
Not at all. He actually sounds exactly like Tim Heidecker
Thank you Ben thank you Sweetwater these videos are very helpful.
Hi guys, thanks for a super helpful video. A wee bit more special since you are setting up what looks awfully like my 000028H (#703936). Really appreciate the comments on humidity. I live in a forested area in SE Australia, which means hot, dry summers and cold, damp winters. So far I've had no obvious issues but if you have any tips for maintaining a relatively stable RH, I would be grateful. Also, I just made a little (necessary) trussrod adjustment and found it pretty stiff to turn. Hoping that isn't abnormal. Keep up the great work guys.
Awesome!!! I learn so much about my guitars by watching ur content!! Ty
Cool video. Thanks for posting this!
Excellent thanks! Learned a lot.
I just finished setting one up and saw this just now haha. I had it down right.
Best guitar setup video Ive ever seen!
This is a great video, thanks for posting.
Love the tips!
Very cool need more like it!!
Great vid, thanks!
Excellent video. I learned more I ever knew before.
Love the chapter on the truss rod, titled "adjusting the trust rod"
Great job I learned a lot give him a raise
good work man nice and clean... amazing
Fantastic. What a beast, Ben!
I admire luthiers so much. Their services are expensive but I know it's extremely difficult to do such things. And finally, they are the people who are in some way responsible for a great sounding performance later.
They're awesome! 🙌
That was informative. Thanks.
Nice job on the video!
Hey there! just got my brand new Martin 00028 - noticed that if I place a straight edge near the bridge, there is a slight bulge, perhaps 2mm. Is this normal? could it be that the guitar was not stored at an ideal humidity environment? Thanks
This is an incredibly helpful video. I'd never do this myself, but it's great to know what you're paying for when you get it setup.
Thank you😊
Thanks for the vid! What kind of scotch brite pad you use on the fretboard?
This guys loves what he does, I can tell
Excellent video
Wow Ben, Thanks
Thanks Ben🙋
GOOD VIDEO - BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What was the measurement at the 12th fret?
PLEASE tell me what is the Official name of that String Height Gauge you used !!.. j GOTTA get me one...it looks awesome. i NEED ONE. where can i buy one. ?!!
Where can I get that digital tool you used to measure height?
Wow this is awesome mad respect for Mr Ben Ch lol
That's truly an expert!
Hello there, for my D18 (2021) I use 13 gauge. Now I mostly play with fingers including the strumming. What in your opinion should be the numbers at the 12th fret. Note: I often downtune ½ or 1 step. Thank you.
Hi, Jasper. There isn't really an ideal height as everyone will have a different preference, and that preference will be impacted by a person's playing style. You just have to find the right middle ground of low enough to be comfortable but not so low that you're getting buzz.

When a customer buys a new guitar and the 55 point inspection shows some flaws. Is the guitar fixed or do you pick another new one off the shelf? If any adjustments are made, do you note it in the inspection sheet?
Sick!!
Very informative and knowledgeable guy great stuff thanks! 👌🏼💪🏼
I brought a acoustic guitar from a pawn shop is sounds ok but maybe a setup can help it sound better , thanks for the update
I have a new acoustic that sounds great open but buzzes if you play the first or second fret. E chord D chord and A chord just buzz. G chord sounds good C add 9 sounds good. This isn't my first guitar but it's the first one that was out of adjustment out of the box. Low fret buzz is the issue I guess. What is the fix for this? Any help would be appreciated!
What's name of this instrument, which have screen for hight string? Thanks
Neat tools.
the om 28 I got from sweetwater was perfect.
What was the measurement at the twelfth fret? How much did he grind off the saddle? That’s the one thing I need to know and it’s not explained here.
cool vid!
Can I send a guit to Ben,and if so how much for a setup?
Hi guys! Quick question. If I tune my guitar a whole step down, the 12th fret looses ‘the octave’ (it gets sharper). Is this normal?
Awesome
Was that a digital feller gauge he was using?
A good overall guide, thanks. I want that nut and bridge sanding tool SOOOO badly you don't even know.
Stu Mac sells it. It's a nut and saddle sander.
i want the whole setup tools haha
Or if you're a little cheap but crazy like me...I just use my whetstone from Japanese Knife Sharpening to sand the guitar nut....I mean....it works...
Costs less than 20 dollars on Amazon...and you can say its for the wife/family/better food....
Love the video - Ben says humidity is vital but skips the checking humidity stop ‘we place a hygrometer in every guitar…’ going to see that step, process
Could u please tell us where we can buy the guitar caliper?
I got clasic guitar and love soloing but the problem is the notes just perfect to 10 fret.. get to 12 fret the 456 string is out.. it's about 36+- less to reach the pitch.. what is the problem?
Where can you get the saddle tool from as shown in the video?
When Ben said "It's the same as tuning, you tune UP to the note and not down." I've been saying this for 20 years and it's never spoken about by so many players. It was something I always found as common sense when playing, if you're sharp, tune below the note, bend the string (pinch harm left hand motion) to pull all the excess tension on to the fretboard side, then turn up to pitch, repeat. Done.
What tool are you using to measure the nut slot height? I have a cheap prototype version but it isn't accurate because tolerances aren't tight.
looks like tire thread depth gauge
Where can i get that digital string action gage? Can it be used for measuring 12th fret action?
Did you ever find out? I need one of those
What's the name of the vertical caliper tool he is using for measuring action height?
So I’m a drummer mostly, but I’ve always been fascinated with the guitar, acoustic and electric. So I’m going start watching more Sweetwater guitar videos.
Where it is possible to get that tool from this video (at 9:23) for saddle fixation during filing?

What's the grit rating on that Scotchbrite pad?
Hey, thanks for a great tutorial. I have a question:
What if I have a backbone, but releasing the rod doesn't fix it? It gets loos, like it's going to come out... I know I can put thicker strings, but I prefer not to.
Any advise? Thanks a lot.
I woidl imagine that’s a broken truss rod :(
@@jvalle1759 I don't think so, because when I tighten it, the backbone (hump) grows...
Where did you get that height gauge? Super informative video.!!
@sweetwater
Hi, Do you sell the digital gauge that Ben used to measure string action?
If no, do you mind telling us the brand name and model please ?
thank you !
Hey, Kelvin! That's the LMI Digital String Height Gauge. Thanks for the interest!
what is that digital height reading device?
Do you sell all those tools at Sweetwater (file, sanding/holder/measuring device, etc.)?
Where can I get these tools?
If only a luthier like this guy could be found in every town. Most are not as skilled.
Way cool😎 from Sweetwater i bought my 2 grandsons a baby Taylor to learn "how to play"
What are the names of the tools you used ?
Does anyone know the make and model of the micrometer he’s using?
I have the same guitar with the same issue at the same fret.
That's not good to hear, I just bought a new Martin D-28 from Sweetwater, it's on back order, but your story and the Martin Guitar in this video with the same issue makes me nervous about the Martin I bought on line with Sweetwater because I can't play it before I buy it.
Does Sweetwater offer setting up my old guitars? I'm coming down in a week or so to buy a new one ........ so I'd be able to drop it off.

how much does a procedure like this cost?
Cool beans
Drop a link on some great set-up tools at a reasonable price. StewMac is ridic on some of their stuff.
What options are there to correct the "12th fret out of tune" condition on an acoustic guitar? The frets have been leveled, new strings installed, fret board straight, and so forth. Yet the 12th fret is out of tune with the open string for some of the strings.
Too bad there are no adjustments for this like on an electric guitar...
Hi, Dale. Intonation is usually adjusted at the saddle. Unfortunately, saddles can’t be moved on acoustic guitars so that is not an easy adjustment. Based on the string length settings on most guitars, Graph Tech does make a compensated saddle that takes this into account. Aside from the Tusq material having great tonal properties, the compensated string length will improve intonation on most acoustics. This would be an example of one:

Does anyone know what the digital measuring tool he's using is called? Pictured at time: ruclips.net/video/fK4K7kgSrKc/видео.html
Digital String Height Gauge. You can get it at www.lmii.com
Is it normal for a new acoustic guitar to have a saddle filed down to almost no break on the high e string? Did the set up guy do it wrong? The guitar is a Gibson J45 Custom. Very informative video
I'm wondering about the same thing. My saddle barely pokes over the bridge, which doesn't seem normal, but my action is still really high on the upper frets. I was thinking of replacing the saddle without filing it down so much then tightening the relief in my truss rod, but I'm afraid of turning the rod too far and damaging the neck.
where do you get that digital measuring device that measures the action? also what is it called? ty
Following
Would like to know this as well.
I'd like to know, too.
I believe that's a digital caliper. Maybe a Luthier's featherweight caliper? Hard to tell the model.
Google - Digital Nut Slotting Gauge
What was that tool you used to measure the string height
Man…I’m trying to get one of those too!
Do the setup for electric guitars.
Just bought an Epiphone Slash J-45 from you guys. I do my own set up stuff for my electrics but not on an acoustic. Great video!! Can you please give me the measurements at the nut for each string and also tell me if you sell that tool for sanding down the saddle and for measuring the string height
Thanks!!
Can I ship my guitar to you and have you set it up and return it? How much is the price for a mid range Martin?

yeah... i think i'll leave it to the professionals ... Ha ha! Nicely done!
Can anybody tell me what model Martin that guitar is? Thanks :)
it looks like a 000-28
Excellent informative video. I once filed down a saddle to have the action lowered on my acoustic. The intonation went out of whack after that. What did I do wrong and how to correct this? TIA!
BTW, I've stayed away from messing about setting up an acoustic since. No problems setting up an electric :)
You just need to adjust the break point. Its easier if you use a blank to you have some meat to move the break point back as you lower the action. I really think manufacturers should supply 3 or so bridges for different actions that are setup correctly. I have had no issue setting up my guitars you just need to take you time. Plus if you go to far superglue and baking powder to lift back up 🙂
How do you learn this? School?
