I loved this! So informative! I just made a savory, delicious Polenta-Style Amaranth with mushrooms and spinach and came on here to read the benefits. Amazing!!! Thank you! I’m now subscribed!
I think that as people scattered and moved after The Tower of Babel they took seeds with them. If Amaranth holds up so well, it might be that they took it with them to eat and plant. I also believe there was trade from Asia, possibly through Alaska and then moving south.
I generally throw it in with my oatmeal--about half and half. Cooked by itself it can be a little gummy. I bought a big bag of puffed amaranth on amazon last year and throw this in with my granola mix--or you can just mix with nuts and grains for a gluten free granola
Very timely video for me. I bought some from Azure Standard last year and was just thinking I need to try it. Thanks for the info. I am vegetarian so I am really happy to know about its protein attributes.
Morning! I have the Wonder-Mill, and have NOT been able to make amaranth flour with it. Even set on pastry, the grain flows in, and right back out. Is it my mill? Maybe, but just a heads up incase someone else finds the same. What DOES work better is actually an electric flaker. The most popular flaker does say, don't flake fine grains, such as amaranth, teff, and millet, as they will likely be turned into powder. So, there ya go. 😊😊
ha good to know! I haven't tried it yet with my Wondermill. I know Sue Becker mentions to add the grains slowly. Did you try that and it still not work? I would think you could also just throw it into a blender to blend up too.
Making some hard white wheat, spelt bread. Decided to see if my Nutri-Mill would grind the Amaranth. It did perfect! I will add a cup of this flour with my other fresh milled flour. I love your channel.
Ancient Americans didn't spring up out of the ground. They emigrated from Asia over time after the great flood, since mankind restarted through Noah from Mt. Ararat in Turkey. So mankind moved through Asia to the Americas, and most likely took grains with them to sustain themselves as they moved, since grain would be the easiest and best nutrition to carry. Amaranth varieties could have come about from being planted in a new environment, or God put them there just like He put it in Asia for mankind.
I love history! And I love your teaching of history associated with the grains!
Yay!

I’ve grown amaranth! It’s a lovely flower and dries beautifully. I have some grain in my basement, but need to clean it up for use.
Oh cool!
Trying it today!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and insight
