Same here ❤. Growing up in New Orleans this was the core of our family getting together in grandma's kitchen.
Never had grandmother's. Have no idea what I'm missing. Best I got was my French girlfriend and her mom. Now those women can cook blindfolded. No recipes no canned soup all fresh and ready quick. Amazing to witness. Took my breath away. :)
My husband had a heart transplant and he lived for another 21 years. That was back in 1991! God is good!

In the 70’s, we made carrot cake using baby food and used 2 large jars or 4 small. I always hate it when food packaging changes because it messes up our recipes. I have one cake that I can’t even make anymore because it needed that DH 18 ounce cake mix. I would rather they leave things alone and just charge more. I haven’t made a carrot cake in years. You are always bringing back sweet memories!

I love hearing your stories and I’m glad your son is doing well. I can relate to what your son is going through. I had a kidney transplant two years ago. I tell people I was reborn twice. Had a stoke in my 20’s, brain surgery in my 30’s (4 days after my birthday). And transplant in my 40’s (on my birthday month). I feel blessed every day. ❤

Just found your channel, love it and subscribed. Praying for your son; hope he is still doing well. Please pray for mine who was given a terminal prostate cancer diagnosis last October. I'm believing for a miracle for him. He is in his mid 50s, has a wife and 2 teenage daughters and is my only child. Praise God for His mercy and love. Last week they told me I have a malignant breast tumor and am believing for healing of that also.

I like to refer to spices like cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and allspice as sweet fall/winter spices. Because they’re mostly used on sweet recipes, and in the fall and winter months.

I love your answer! Because I always have. Such a delight. When I graduated from high school in 1985 some ladies from church had a lunch for me. One lady cooked a carrot cake and she was out of carrots so she did exactly what you did. The baby food carrots made the cake moist and delicious. I think I will give my two daughters your cookbook and hopefully they will be inspired to cook Sunday dinner for their families.

I'm short and I have a double wall ovens and I have always used only the bottom rack lol now I just moved into a house that has a double oven on my range (I don't like that range) and I only use the top oven because the lower oven is a pain to get in and out of with pans and baking sheets, I at one point in my life owned my own bakery and I had a beautiful oven that was just my height lol
I would be in heaven with double ovens!!

Grew up Loving Carrot Cake, Mom made them periodically.
Thank you Meme....My mom was a scratch cook like you are. She ran a diner when she was young. She never wrote anything down. She passed several years ago. For me the modern way of cooking is lacking that southern touch that my mom had. So I know the taste I want to have in food but with no recipes I am clueless. I would have never thought of baby food carrots as a substitute for fresh carrots in Carrot Cake! How ingenious! I love Carrot Cake but I’m the only person in our family who does! Everyone prefers chocolate over any other! But bone of these days I’ll try the baby food version and see what they think!
So happy your son received his new heart! We lived in Charlotte for about 8 years, moving back to the DFW area over 16 years ago after our daughter and SIL made us grandparents for the first time! But while in Charlotte my husband had several stents implanted at Carolinas Medical Center, and the cardiologists did a wonderful job! God is sooo good! Hope your son is still doing well, and that our Lord gives him many more years of good health!

I made this today and I have to say I was a little weirded out by the baby food carrots BUT OH MY GOODNESS IT WAS SO GOOD! It is so moist and the carrot taste is just perfect!

We also had a birddog growing up and my great grandparents were from Tennessee born in a one room shack with a dirt floor her name was Hassie and when they passed on they had accumulated much love and wealth, through hard work and enjoying life, and she loved go hunting, too, as did her children, my grandparents and great uncles, and then my father and myself I loved hearing all the stories, and when Hassie was too old to walk she would drive along the country roads in the oil fields and hunt from her Cadillac unbeknownst to her husband Tommy, my great grandpa until she came home one afternoon With a big bulge on the outside of the passenger door, she accidentally set the gun down and nearly blew a hole through the passenger door. That may have ended that idea lol. Oh the Stories. …. Oh the recipes. On how to make dove or quail people hunted to provide food as much as for sport they felt apart of this World and appreciated, the food sharing with others, and never wasting anything. if it wasn’t hunting it was fishing I don’t believe they ever watched TV maybe in the evening they listen to the radio they were avid, hunters and fisherman Also, golfers and bowlers people much more sociable in those days or playing cards among the normal activities with family and in-laws

Love all your recipes! The green bean can get away, just reminded me of something! I was putting groceries in my trunk & accidentally dropped a bag with a 2 liter Coke! That Coke took off like a bullet,lol! It landed over in the next roll of cars,lol! I couldn't do anything but 😀! Thankfully, it landed without hitting anyone or anything! Guess the pressure builds up in the plastic! This happened at Wal-Mart,lol!

My husband had his 3yr.anniversary with his new heart ...All Glory to God!!! No well water at all. bathing ,brushing teeth cooking washing veggies ,fruit ect......only purified he also usesit for brushing teeth ...coffee even tho we r on city water...grapes ,but no grape juice cuz of emzymes no fresh garlic or mushrooms...no blemishes on fruit or veggies ...he makes sure the nurses bring him purified water in bottles,some do not realize and bring water from machine...God Bless with His wisdom ,knowledge ,and understanding as u go...and may He download His stradigies and give u God speed execution to all involed❣️❣️❣️👍
We do not eat out much cuz not sure how things r prepared and meat too...everything cooked needs to be put away Hot🙃can only heat food twice .

But what I needed to hear was the story about your son getting a new heart. You see I have been on the fence about whether I should continue to pursue getting a lung transplant. I wasn't trying to put you down in any sort of way, I truly enjoy your channel and love to see how others do things in the kitchen. We can all learn something else everyday ❤

the OLD TIMES used to cook/bake on the bottom rack in the 50's-80's. the stoves weren't as good back then like they are now. for even heating you are supposed to place your food directly in the middle of the oven. why? because there is a bottom and a top heating element that heat at the same time when baking. great meals you make!

My momma always used to put a toothpick in a double layer cake. The rule was whoever got the toothpick in their piece didn't have to do the dishes. That was a big deal because we were a family of seven, and that was before dishwashers!

We really do have similar taste. I have those exact same two ceramic pumpkin in my house! And recently I noticed we have the same ceramic mini loaf pans (pumpkin bread video.) My wedding cake was carrot and I've made it many times but never with baby food. Great short cut!
