    Remove and repair the roof-to-wall caulked flashing and replace it with proper Z flashing since the fellas did not do it properly the first time.
    Howdy, guys, and gals; this short video explains in a detailed description why we removed the flashing that was caulked to a stucco wall.
    And the steps we took to remove the stucco to waterproof the wall correctly and bring it up to code requirements.
    Plus, gives it a nice cosmetic appearance.

    Everything you do is always perfect ! You are a true gem and gift to share your knowledge. So many "contractors" haven't a clue when it comes to flashing. I am simply amazed at how many contractors install flashing incorrectly. There are even many youtube videos that show it wrong and some of the comments catch it and point it out while a vast majority praise the installer - I simply scratch my head at those that can't understand how flashing needs to shed water and can't overlap finish work - it has to be under it. Anyway, I learn so much from you and have fixed so much of my own plaster work in my home using your instruction (Plasterweld, Diamond finish, rounded trowels). I amazed myself at my ability to plaster now and produce perfect work - but I owe it to you for the technique and tool knowledge which lead to my confidence. Thank you !

    It's about time people started doing these videos properly. This was a correct installation and you further explained why the other was not correct either esthetically or for a standard of the industry application. It's not hard to do a good video when you know what you're doing. Good job Kirk.

    great job, i grew up around the trade. some days with dad when doing inside plastering in the 50s and can still recall the smell and moisture from the plaster. in my teens dad would use me to pull hose for the nozzle man and when he had enough slack to last for a bit i would reset scaffold planks( usually 2x12 water and plaster saturated sometimes 2 story jobs) and if time allowed i would help the hoddy with material. later in the day i would use a shovel to cut back plaster from the base of the building. hard work. i hope you and your people are wearing masks, dad did not and he paid for it with a shorter life. (smoking contributed) good trade, but like all trades you have to like what you do to be good. ok i`m off my soapbox now.

    Good info thank you! You definitely know your trade! If I may, can you tell me the best way to flash a dormer, primarily the apron, when the window sill literally sits right on the
    deck? There's approx 2" that I could turn up the leg of the apron. Is it
    just what it is? Any tricks I should know? Thank you

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  5 лет назад

      Howdy Jeff, easy, before the window is set in place, you would attach an L flashing with a 45-degree angle.
      The top of the flashing goes under the window and is fasted to the substrate while 4 inches at least attach to the roof, whether the roof is slanted or flat, the L flashing is decided upon.

    good job on the video have a question okay sell my house he's kind of old basically we're leaking from our walls you think the flashing could be the main issue I mean we had somebody basically fix it and before it was leaking from the top of the roof now it's leaking from the wall I guess it's leaning against the wall and going down and we walk into our hallway with Open Door above it will see drips not as much as we used to see but there are still some and I read that it could be most likely the flashing is done right how do I know if the flashing is the issue? I can even show you a video if you have an email I can send it to you let me know your email and I will do it see if you can help us really appreciate it greatly it keep up the good work

      Good afternoon Tony, water entering takes time and know how to find where it's originating.
      start at the bottom turn the water hose on lay a brick on top to hold in place allow time, continue doing this and raising the water hose accordingly and you will find out where it comes from.
      Sometimes I can locate a leak by eye other time it can take from 20 minutes to 8 hours, best wishes,
      cheers,

    Imagine, every time you replace the shingle roof, having to demolish stucco and redo flashing. And this is only one small section of the house. And even so, fixing new stucco is relatively easy compared to other problems like the ones I face on my house. Having been through calling countless roofers, and found none able to do proper repairs and proper flashing, I am running out of ideas. Almost all the repair jobs shown on youtube are cases of rather simple repairs, not like the difficult ones found in real life.

    • @KpxUrz5745
      @KpxUrz5745 3 года назад

      @@StuccoPlastering I think you got me all wrong here. First of all, in no way did I complain about the work you show in this video. Actually I thought your repair was excellent. Secondly, I never said I am a roofer or repairman and have a better solution. I am just a homeowner who cannot find a decent repairman even after YEARS of looking. And thirdly, no crook sold me the home. The house is a meaningful old family heirloom, but its age does mean it has serious problems. PS: I do not need any plastering done, simply said that this plastering job is much simpler than some other difficult roofing and flashing jobs are.
