I was there the day this was filmed at Buxton resevoir, have to say Quentin was a top bloke and we had alot of fun filming this,it took all day and i helped write the script too... although he did crash the 280 into a grass bank and bent the front valance. John Partridge the owner nearly fainted, the Tickford,John Cristinis was doing over 100mph down that road and nearly didnt stop at the end...both cars all these years later are still owned by the same guys, theyll never part with them. Both are still pristine and will never be sold.

worked for Hertz at marble arch in London in 1976 and remember thrashing the snot out of a 2.0Ltr GL MK2 from hertz Cardiff to Heathrow on the M4 at night. It went really well and as you all know NOTHING goes as good as a "Rental car". good memories.

I just loved my metallic blue mk2 2.0S in the 1980s. Also had a mk1 3000e metallic grey with lovely red interior. Great cars ! I miss those happy days.

I have my 2.8 over 25 years now, nothing rough about this car , I love the way this wafts along in 5th a real mile muncher. Vastly superior to a Jaguar E Type I drove too.Far more desirable than any tarted up front drive hatch ever will be.

Eoin Kenny my mates dad had a 1984 Capri 2.8 turbo but it was a left hand drive. That was a stunning car and was very fast for the time.

    I had a 3000 E in circa '71. Was a flying machine back then.
It was dark metallic green with a black vinyl roof and some what controversial colour keyed turquoise interior.
It was distinctive with the black louvers on the rear window..
A bit of a handful in snow but I'ld love to have it back now.
Ok, no creature comforts and sophistication, and couldn't compare to my current Audi TT 3 litre Quatro but just for the simplicity it would be great for those special days.

I'm in Canada... the car was re-badged and sold here (as a 'Mercury Capri), but was a cult car.
Probably this car's closest relative here (in concept, at least) was the '79-93 Ford Mustang - a cheap, customizable, fast car, just (in the Mustang's case) without the handling part. I own and work on an '83 Mustang GLX 5.0 convertible and enjoy it - no refinement or handling, but tons of power and character.
I would've thought the Ford Sierra would've been considered the successor, over the Probe? Interestingly enough, we got a re-badged (de-tuned) Sierra Cosworth as the Merkur XR4Ti.
Back to the Capri - I find it really attractive, and I'm glad there's now a following for them. The car hobby isn't just for snobs!

I used to drive and sell them in Australia, the finish left a lot to be desired out there as parts were shipped in from different countries and the panels didn't fit all that well, on some case we had to modify the front pillars to get the doors to fit
Loved them, had a GT 1600, with the "roo" decals, followed by several XL's (which were less optioned), and the peak a 3 litre GT in vivid "True Blue"
A great handling sexy car; still looks good today and would love to own one again!!!

SRP 629N was my first car, back in 1990..JPS Special and I didn't know it ! probably because the body was hand painted in white. Would shudder at 40mph, had a hole where the jack point was and the windows wouldn't close properly.
But, i'm here fondly reflecting - the car was a memory maker.
As I handed the keys to the scrap yard, I was clearing it out and found a GT badge....never knew ! and neither did my insurance company lol

Once owned a 73 Capri with the 2 liter and some kind of Appearance Pak that included full instrumentation like the V6 cars. Terrific car, but a bit of a squeeze to get my 6 ft 4 frame behind the wheel. " Traded " it for a 66 Mustang coupe and later sold it back to its original owner. Now I have an 06 Mustang convertible with the 4 liter version of the V6. Somehow it sounds like a 289 like my old Mustang.

I've always been a massive fan of the Capri but the same can't be said for my English teacher. He keeps saying "You recreate the seventies, the decade with no style at all" & "The Capri was a rubbish car". I'd always come up with "you're in no position to judge sir, YOU are a TR7 fan!!! Only an idiot would prefer a door wedge to a reliable thing of beauty". Come back Capri, we need you

In '97? School. I may have been born in the 80s, and grown up a 90s child... But I'm '60s and '70s at heart. Not one of my currently running cars is younger than 1972... Sad really, that these clunky, but soulful machines have been irrevocably replaced with gigabytes and pedestrian friendly marshmallow styling. Ah well, at least decent cars are cheaper than new cars nowadays.

The Capri lost out to the Sierra Cosworth? Seriously? The Capri should have been treated to that YB Turbo Engine and a stronger back end and that Borg Warner Box, then you would have seen who was king. I miss the Capri so much, if Ford was still making it I would buy another. My 2.8 MK2 from the UK was great but the MK3 2.8 was the real thing. A 4WD option would have been just great too. Evan now the Focus fails to carry the charm and sporting looks of the Capri. Ford UK is a really silly Company to kill off its best brand and surrender the RWD market to FWD. After Killing off the RS Cosworth Sierra and the RS Escort Cosworth, they are just emerging after decades with a replacement, the 4WD Focus. Meantime Mitsubishi and Subaru ran off with their market with the Evo and the WRX.

Oh wow. I wish I could find a genuine Capri here in the States. We imported the Mk1 through the Mid 70s. It was badged as a "Mercury Capri". Mercury was Ford's failed attempt at a mid-level luxury brand. Then Ford USA tried to sell a rebadged Fox-platform Mustang as a Capri. Why? I think the last generation Capri was a rag-top Mazda 323 that we imported from Ford Australia. It was marketed as a competitor to the Mazda Miata. Again. Why? As you can guess, the Mercury brand folded in 2008.
I commend Ford for finally getting a clue and (apparently) ditching their redundant US car designs. After decades of pieces of crap like the Pinto, the US Escort (Yeah...the Ford Europe Escort, awesome...the US Escort....not so much), and the Granada (again...your Granada was awesome...ours was a piece of crap) we finally get the Focus, the Kuga (sold here as the Escape) and the Mondeo (sold here as the Fusion). We even get the Fiesta again!
Funny story, the Ford Probe was supposed to replace the Mustang. That went well.

    • @4thstooge75
      @4thstooge75 7 лет назад +3

Mercury merely a failed attempt at a mid level brand? Hardly, Mercury was an iconic American brand of car that lasted 73 years. It was a victim of a crowded market of Japanese. Korean & European cars which sadly displaced many lower & mid level car brands such as Oldsmobile, Plymouth, Pontiac, AMC & others. Gone but certainly not forgotten. Kind of like British car brands which if not foreign owned are gone to the dustbin of history.
