IMO, the real reason why woman are so upset about Owen's comments about being the catch. The real problems are that Owens doesn't behave like a neutered pup and that Simone was ACTIVE in her pursuit of love and happiness. On the first point, women constantly praise men that lower themselves in the praise of their woman. They praise Serena's husband for behaving more like an accessory than a partner. They were expecting him to behave like that but he's build different. They want him to pretend like he's not good enough for her.
On the second point, they dislike that Simone was active in perusing the man that she wanted. Most women prefer to sit back and hope that they would choose the right man amidst all the other guys trying to put it in their butt. They have too much ego, pride, and fear to after what they really want. Simone knew what she wanted and wasn't deterred because he took a little bit of time to respond.

I think there is a semantic problem here. There are two different versions of “the catch.” One is more literal in the aspect of being caught. And one is more theoretical in the aspect of perceived value. This is a clear showing of the difference between how men’s and women’s language works. The men are arguing from the literal sense and the woman is arguing from the theoretical interpretation. Based on the way homeboy was talking in the interview, I’m not sure which way he meant it. At first it seemed like the literal sense, but towards the end it seems like he was going the theoretical route by saying “men are always the catch.” I think there is no issue with the recount of his story if it was true. It’s perfectly fine for a woman to let a man know she is interested in him, so long as he takes that queue and begins the pursuit of her. She showed a heavy initial interest… had he not followed up by taking charge of the pursuit, they probably wouldn’t be married. Where he messed up was the comment he made at the end about men always being the catch. In that moment, he was talking to the guys casually and was not thinking about how he was representing his wife. The appropriate thing would have been to tell the story as it was, but show appreciation for Simone once asked “oh so you’re the catch.” That would have been the mature masculine thing to do. He could’ve even joked and said “well, she caught me but I’m the one who ended up blessed.” Like, idk… get creative lol
