I'm interested in seeing 👀 how their relationship progresses. The fact that Simone had to reassure him that in a few years people won't refer to him as Simone Biles' husband, shows that it's a thing that bothers him.

Just finished watching Simone’s Netflix documentary. You can see how happy she is. So if she likes it, I love it! He seems invested and willing to grow, that’s what matters.
This man was given SO many chances to big up his wife for the MF phenomenon she is, and he STILL made it about him. The interviewer literally set him up so many times to give her her flowers, and he STILL centered himself. I want so much better for Black women & our love lives. Like damn! I completely agree!! Tbh it’s giving he was almost feeling some type of way she was even there. Like this was his moment and because she was there and she is who she is they were asking questions about her, and she chimed in so he was trying to redirect it and make it about just him, which technically the interview was suppose to be about him (in his defense) he lacks the maturity of acknowledging his amazing wife, he’s having a hard time handling it.

This was such a good conversation. I appreciated Johnathan's transparency & honesty in sharing his story. I absolutely love Simone & love HIM for Simone. I love them together! I hate that a stupid clip from this 50+ minute convo keeps resurfacing in people's negative perception and negative comments. Haters are so weird. He doesn't deserve that and they don't deserve that... at all! When I first watched this months ago I did not think he was being arrogant at all when he responded to the question about being the "catch". I took at as him saying he was like most young men in their early 20s that are not sure if they are quite ready to settle down, but then this beautiful queen crossed his path and changed that. Because he fell in love. Johnathan doesn't come across as wanting to be famous or more popular or outshine his wife, he just wants to be successful in his career and living his dream. If you have observed their relationship (through sm) throughout the past few years you can clearly see how much he loves and honors Mrs. Owens as his prize. I don't know WTH people are talking about when they put out this negative mess that they be projecting from their own weird situationships. As for the not knowing who she was, I really don't think he is lying because if you have followed Simone & watched her FB series, he shared the exact same story in 2021..so he is not lying. You can "know" of a name in pop culture but not really know "about" them unless you take the time to. I wasn't in college training camp in 2016 and I did not watch one second of the Olympics either. It's possible to not know if you are not immersed in pop culture and social media 24/7. Whatever the case, I pray for their marriage and that they continue to lift each other up together. God brought them together for a reason. I love it!

What this interview just really showed is how much more growing up Johnathan has to do. From the start of the interview to the end you see who the true Veterans are in this conversation. You can tell how the older Men were even a bit shocked at his comments by their face expressions and they tried to clean up his immature statements and give advice as any mature Mentor would. I think Johnathan saw an opportunity to solidify his career in the NFL in getting with Simone. He got discouraged 3 weeks into being drafted. He admitted he wasn’t attracted to her and has yet to even admit that he is. All he admitted was. “We hit it off”! What does that even mean to him!? Just making note that the word “ love” or “ I love my wife” has yet to even be used the entire show. Except loving her food. I think he lacks considerable respect for her. I think he appreciates what she has done for him but I’m not sold that this is “young black love.”

This reminds me of a friend i had, who was studying Chemical engineering in the best engineering university of my country. She was top 3 of her class, studied her ass off every day always fantastic scores on projects, essays, exams you name it. Well, she met this guy a little older than her, who also had gone to university, and was now working at some bank. This was a time where i never heard anything come out of this girls mouth, other than to tell me how important her bf was (he wasnt), how much she was learning from him (nothing) and how her life was finally complete now that she had a man like that. They lasted for almost a year (which at our age at the time was a lot), and after their super toxic relationship ended, she started to tell me all the things this guy did and sad to her, everytime someone would mention her success. He would feel so insecure and inadequate to have a girlfriend like her that he would manipulate her everytime he could, he would ignore her when she wanted to talk about uni, and reduce her to HIS girlfriend. It was the exact same speech as this loser. I see the same behaviour in this shallow of a man. Thats all.
Folks have to remember she is an exceptional athlete. A large portion of what she does is about the analysis, she mentors teammates, it would be only natural for her to provide support and feedback to the man she loves.
She has poured her all into this man. THAT is very much clear. I HOPE he respects and loves on her and if not I hope it ends sooner then later for their peace of mind.

It's interesting how Simone Biles has become such a social media sensation, even for those of us who don't follow the Olympics closely. Jonathan Owens' remark about not knowing who she was initially, and suggesting he was the bigger catch, seems quite audacious. Honestly, outside of football enthusiasts, his name wasn't widely recognized until his association with Simone. He should feel fortunate that someone of her stature showed interest in him. Even in his interview, he acknowledged that they are frequently recognized both nationally and internationally because of her fame.
He absolutely should feel fortunate. He seems ungrateful. His connection to her catapulted him into the stratosphere when he was otherwise invisible; fame by association. I hope they last but if not he will have benefitted from her name while she will not have benefitted anything apart from being minimized in interviews in front of other males.

I loved the stories Jonathan told. There were great lessons and take-a-ways that are wise to adopt and practice regardless of where you are in life: regardless of the stage, career, and challenges you’re faced with - it doesn’t matter, remember the lessons and apply wherever it’s practical.
I hate to say this, but as a 52 year old woman with life experience and wisdom, this marriage is going to need our prayers. She adores him but I’m not feeling his love and admiration for her. He loves himself. Maybe that’s because he’s young, but I just pray that if this couple breaks up, I pray Simone won’t let it impact her athletic career.

I really appreciate you guys interviewing JO. I have been keeping up with his career since the Texans. His relationship with his wife is beautiful. How they communicate and support each other is inspirational. Especially for young people. And they are both athletes. The way he talks about his wife seems more like he would have been better off as her good friend. I was hoping to see and hear that they have a true and strong bond. He then uses a non sequitur of "us pretty red dime(pieces)," what man says that about himself let alone another man, & that literally had nothing to do with Mr. Owens career or life experiences which is what was shared earlier. Really glad I watched this. Context is so important. They’re good. They’re obviously BOTH besotted with each other. I hope that Owens approaches interviews a bit differently in the future and doesn’t hesitate to just heap praise on his wife. But it’s clear that they both view each other as a catch. That’s what true partnership is. He was a late bloomer. He’s just starting to come into his own. Simone has been a dominating force for YEARS. But she has been a kid for much of it. She obviously respects him. He obviously respects her. He just needs to verbalize it better. He’s a good egg.
Social media is giving Jonathan Owens an unwarranted hard time. He told his truth of him and his wife coming together. She shot her shot and that is ok. The interviewers were guiding the direction of the conversation regarding him being the catch. I contribute his remarks to him being young and lacking wisdom, which will come in time. He's in his mid-twenties. His comments and appreciation of his wife were sincere. It is social media that's making Simone Biles look desperate and not worthy of him. Social media influencers are those bringing up her looks, not her husband. I pray Jonathan and Simone are able to safe-guard their marriage from the opinions of those outside of their marriage.
Excellent episode and I love Jonathans honesty, humility and journey what he went through as a free agent. I can totally relate and appreciate how he left major nuggets of overcoming the odds for those still pursuing the NFL and who may not come from a D1, drafted or a 5 star. Net net: Let you dream fuel to your reality... never let anyone define your path or journey. I also appreciate the obvious love Jonathan & Simone has for each other. Who cares who says who is the catch? At the end of the day you have two people who are madly in love with each other and I pray their love remains to the end of time.

Tbh while agree with what you said I kinda understand the "never heard of her" bit because when I was in college (around the same time as him) I didn't really pay attention to what was going on in the rest of the world. There are huge viral moments and big news stories/events from that time that i'm just learning about now cause I was so focused and in my own world at the time that I was out of touch with what was going on in the rest of the world. The olympics and stuff like the superbowl were basically non-existent to me at the time.
This was actually a great interview. I’m glad he felt comfortable enough with her in the room to express HIMSELF and tell HIS truth. Of course she would’ve told the story differently as a woman, but he’s a man and clearly the type of man that she saw enough in, as the most decorated athlete ever, to pursue proudly. I love them, aesthetically, together and her soft but strong energy matches his reserved but resilient energy. Much love and life to them and their union 💛✨
Great show! So funny that Jonathan discussed Imposter Syndrome. I recently watched Keshia Lance Bottoms discuss the same topic on her RUclips channel. I have never heard of it! And he and Simone are just so cute together!
After seeing Simone Biles and her husband together, I don't think he's a loser. He's simply young, figuring out his place in a high-profile marriage, adjusting to her immense celebrity. He's also seemingly just focused on building his own career. Which means he may not be very “her centric” he is very “him centric right now As he and Simone grow together, I think his admiration for her will naturally become more evident. They're still learning how to be partners. Also what we see on camera doesn't always reflect the full reality of their relationship. I am rooting for them and hope in time they continue to grow stronger together.

The only way he disrespected her was by not edifying her. There’s nothing wrong with him stating the facts about how they got together...that she was the pursuer but he made her look bad because it’s as if she was trying to convince him that they both liked each other and he was like nahhh. That was the perfect opportunity to say how he felt about her. He could’ve praised his wife and said how he felt knowing he was dating the Simone Biles. He could’ve even went into how he’s feeling right now being married to her and how beautiful of a wife she is. Instead he chose to speak about himself and how she pursued him and how he really wasn’t that into her. That’s where the disrespect happened and that’s why people are so upset.

I had to come watch to see the interview in full context because of all the clips going around. I like how people are conveniently not putting the clip in of him talking about how shes helped him mentally and all that. When it comes to the beginning of the relationship yeah its totally possible that he wasnt sure/not fully interested at the beginning which it sounds like after they first actually hung out he was hooked. Nothing wrong with her being the one to pursue first and him not being fully interested. Also people are more than their careers/jobs. People saying shes more the catch cause of her achievements reality they can both be a catch because of who they are as people.
Please, they are a very young couple just pray for them. He has to learn the ropes of being with a superstar. However, he accepts her help and her critiques. That’s huge. He’s not letting pride stand in the way; and he’s trying to make his own way. We can’t lump them into our experience. They have mental health counselors, athletic counselors and counselor counselors. They are good.
I’m happy that I finally watched this for myself. Ngl, at first I was big mad because I don’t play about SB. So I will just say this…. Keeping God first in every major relationship, especially marriage is the true key to success, happiness, love, peace, loyalty, and longevity, etc. I’m a firm believer in Christ Jesus and a serious advocate for black love and families. I followed the headlines here. This interview is full of humility from Jonathan Owens. I am not a huge football fan, and I learned who he was after she got the twisties at the Olympics. He is here talking about the uncertainty of being unsigned and not making teams and needing to build his confidence. He loves and appreciates her and I am so happy they found each other. This was such a good conversation. I appreciated Johnathan's transparency & honesty in sharing his story. I absolutely love Simone & love HIM for Simone. I love them together! I hate that a stupid clip from this 50+ minute convo keeps resurfacing in people's negative perception and negative comments. Haters are so weird. He doesn't deserve that and they don't deserve that... at all! When I first watched this months ago I did not think he was being arrogant at all when he responded to the question about being the "catch". I took at as him saying he was like most young men in their early 20s that are not sure if they are quite ready to settle down, but then this beautiful queen crossed his path and changed that. Because he fell in love. Johnathan doesn't come across as wanting to be famous or more popular or outshine his wife, he just wants to be successful in his career and living his dream. If you have observed their relationship (through sm) throughout the past few years you can clearly see how much he loves and honors Mrs. Owens as his prize. I don't know WTH people are talking about when they put out this negative mess that they be projecting from their own weird situationships.
As for the not knowing who she was, I really don't think he is lying because if you have followed Simone & watched her FB series, he shared the exact same story in 2021..so he is not lying. You can "know" of a name in pop culture but not really know "about" them unless you take the time to. I wasn't in college training camp in 2016 and I did not watch one second of the Olympics either. It's possible to not know if you are not immersed in pop culture and social media 24/7. Whatever the case, I pray for their marriage and that they continue to lift each other up together. God brought them together for a reason. I love it!

What this interview just really showed is how much more growing up Johnathan has to do. From the start of the interview to the end you see who the true Veterans are in this conversation. You can tell how the older Men were even a bit shocked at his comments by their face expressions and they tried to clean up his immature statements and give advice as any mature Mentor would. I think Johnathan saw an opportunity to solidify his career in the NFL in getting with Simone. He got discouraged 3 weeks into being drafted. He admitted he wasn’t attracted to her and has yet to even admit that he is. All he admitted was. “We hit it off”! What does that even mean to him!? Just making note that the word “ love” or “ I love my wife” has yet to even be used the entire show. Except loving her food. I think he lacks considerable respect for her. I think he appreciates what she has done for him but I’m not sold that this is “young black love.”

This reminds me of a friend i had, who was studying Chemical engineering in the best engineering university of my country. She was top 3 of her class, studied her ass off every day always fantastic scores on projects, essays, exams you name it. Well, she met this guy a little older than her, who also had gone to university, and was now working at some bank. This was a time where i never heard anything come out of this girls mouth, other than to tell me how important her bf was (he wasnt), how much she was learning from him (nothing) and how her life was finally complete now that she had a man like that. They lasted for almost a year (which at our age at the time was a lot), and after their super toxic relationship ended, she started to tell me all the things this guy did and sad to her, everytime someone would mention her success. He would feel so insecure and inadequate to have a girlfriend like her that he would manipulate her everytime he could, he would ignore her when she wanted to talk about uni, and reduce her to HIS girlfriend. It was the exact same speech as this loser. I see the same behaviour in this shallow of a man. Thats all.
Folks have to remember she is an exceptional athlete. A large portion of what she does is about the analysis, she mentors teammates, it would be only natural for her to provide support and feedback to the man she loves.

It's interesting how Simone Biles has become such a social media sensation, even for those of us who don't follow the Olympics closely. Jonathan Owens' remark about not knowing who she was initially, and suggesting he was the bigger catch, seems quite audacious. Honestly, outside of football enthusiasts, his name wasn't widely recognized until his association with Simone. He should feel fortunate that someone of her stature showed interest in him. Even in his interview, he acknowledged that they are frequently recognized both nationally and internationally because of her fame.
He absolutely should feel fortunate. He seems ungrateful. His connection to her catapulted him into the stratosphere when he was otherwise invisible; fame by association. I hope they last but if not he will have benefitted from her name while she will not have benefitted anything apart from being minimized in interviews in front of other males.

I hate to say this, but as a 52 year old woman with life experience and wisdom, this marriage is going to need our prayers. She adores him but I’m not feeling his love and admiration for her. I pretty much watched most of the interview. The part where Ryan talked about how he read Job and prayed was really my favorite part. Talking about Jesus is always my favorite part of anything. There are numerous Simone interviews about how they met. We heard this story from her first before he told it.
The way he talks about his wife seems more like he would have been better off as her good friend. I was hoping to see and hear that they have a true and strong bond. That did not come through at all, even though I know you all were leading and hoping he would show through strong as Simone's chief supporter and center piece/peace. Instead, he turned everything about him with her being an accessory or side object.

Don't entirely disagree with those sentiments just the part of the placement. The hosts were supposed to keep decorum and set the tone until about 8:53. The man with locs opened his fat trap and laid the bait against the Owens. He knew it was going to cast an unfavorable light but viral moment nonetheless by saying no y'all too scared. The podcast hosts admitted what they were doing. He then uses a non sequitur of "us pretty red dime(pieces)," what man says that about himself let alone another man, & that literally had nothing to do with Mr. Owens career or life experiences which is what was shared earlier. I think us fellow adults need to feel more comfortable in stating not everyone on YT is not only not well intentioned but are creating internet forest fires for the sake of creating divisive thoughts & behaviors for us regular degular schemegular folks & its aggravating. Really glad I watched this. Context is so important. They’re good. They’re obviously BOTH besotted with each other. I hope that Owens approaches interviews a bit differently in the future and doesn’t hesitate to just heap praise on his wife. But it’s clear that they both view each other as a catch. The interviewers were guiding the direction of the conversation regarding him being the catch. I contribute his remarks to him being young and lacking wisdom, which will come in time. He's in his mid-twenties. His comments and appreciation of his wife were sincere. It is social media that's making Simone Biles look desperate and not worthy of him. Social media influencers are those bringing up her looks, not her husband. I pray Jonathan and Simone are able to safe-guard their marriage from the opinions of those outside of their marriage.
Excellent episode and I love Jonathans honesty, humility and journey what he went through as a free agent. I can totally relate and appreciate how he left major nuggets of overcoming the odds for those still pursuing the NFL and who may not come from a D1, drafted or a 5 star. Net net: Let you dream fuel to your reality... never let anyone define your path or journey. I also appreciate the obvious love Jonathan & Simone has for each other. Who cares who says who is the catch? At the end of the day you have two people who are madly in love with each other and I pray their love remains to the end of time.

Tbh while agree with what you said I kinda understand the "never heard of her" bit because when I was in college (around the same time as him) I didn't really pay attention to what was going on in the rest of the world. There are huge viral moments and big news stories/events from that time that i'm just learning about now cause I was so focused and in my own world at the time that I was out of touch with what was going on in the rest of the world. The olympics and stuff like the superbowl were basically non-existent to me at the time.

After seeing Simone Biles and her husband together, I don't think he's a loser.
He's simply young, figuring out his place in a high-profile marriage, adjusting to her immense celebrity. He's also seemingly just focused on building his own career.
Which means he may not be very “her centric” he is very “him centric right now

There’s nothing wrong with him stating the facts about how they got together...that she was the pursuer but he made her look bad because it’s as if she was trying to convince him that they both liked each other and he was like nahhh. I had to come watch to see the interview in full context because of all the clips going around. I like how people are conveniently not putting the clip in of him talking about how shes helped him mentally and all that. When it comes to the beginning of the relationship yeah its totally possible that he wasnt sure/not fully interested at the beginning which it sounds like after they first actually hung out he was hooked. Nothing wrong with her being the one to pursue first and him not being fully interested. Also people are more than their careers/jobs. People saying shes more the catch cause of her achievements reality they can both be a catch because of who they are as people.

Please, they are a very young couple just pray for them. He has to learn the ropes of being with a superstar. However, he accepts her help and her critiques. That’s huge. He’s not letting pride stand in the way; and he’s trying to make his own way. We can’t lump them into our experience. They have mental health counselors, athletic counselors and counselor counselors. They are good.
I’m happy that I finally watched this for myself. Ngl, at first I was big mad because I don’t play about SB. So I will just say this….
Keeping God first in every major relationship, especially marriage is the true key to success, happiness, love, peace, loyalty, and longevity, etc.
I’m a firm believer in Christ Jesus and a serious advocate for black love and families.
My prayer for them both is that they allow God to be in control of their life and relationship as it will only be up from there💯🙏🏽💚

I followed the headlines here. This interview is full of humility from Jonathan Owens. I am not a huge football fan, and I learned who he was after she got the twisties at the Olympics. He is here talking about the uncertainty of being unsigned and not making teams and needing to build his confidence. He loves and appreciates her and I am so happy they found each other. Like the dude said, 'Don't let folk bring that mess in y'all house!' I wish you both all the success in life and love! This interview makes me like Jonathan Owens much more. The context is not supporting these bullshit headlines.
Exactly,! And unfortunately they are trying to bring that BS into their house. The one interviewer was putting words in his mouth saying he didn't want Simone and painting negativity. Anyone who has followed them before this interview knows he really loves her and has said many good things about her. I'm glad their response to this BS is unbothered and locked in
I’m very happy to see this comment. Honestly, the hype of this interview led me here and this interview is the TOTAL opposite of what others are saying. I too believe that this is a great interview!

I think because he is not all that great (for nfl standards) at his sport and she’s DOMINATED hers…. He shows clear signs of envious. He could of ended his jokes about her by uplifting her, but instead said he would of never messaged her 🤦🏽♀️ just need him to act right till the Olympics so my sis mental can be good then she can let him go if she wants 😂she the prize and he needs to never forget that.

It’s HIS interview talking about HIS accomplishments. It’s not about her. It’s ok for him to take his moment and for her to lift him up. I’ve seen him lift her up when it’s her time. If at anytime he can’t then hopefully she walks away unscathed and without his babies. My hope is that they continue to grow.
