Nice video / comparison :) Like you mentioned the grind size was different and the Breville brewed faster so that's few variables that would change things. It's also possible you're more used to a conical burr grinder or that the coffee you used tastes better with a conical burr grinder vs a potentially higher flavour clarity flat burr grinder

I have the middle cuisinart, purchased after the original version began leaking water out of the bottom after 10 years of service (my fault, since I used to use tap water). I have disliked it from day 1. The grounds are too large, resulting in a weak cup of coffee, no matter what setting I use. My workaround has been to use the highest, strongest setting for grinding, then I need to grind 6 cups of beans and add only 5 cups of water to get anything decent enough to drink. On the weekends I use ground coffee to give the grinder a break, but now, as in your demonstration, I can see the coffee is not evenly saturating the grinds, resulting in, yet again, a weak cup of coffee. I clean it every 6 weeks with Clean Caf from Urnex. Recently I tried using their clean function with vinegar to descale, even though I only use filtered or bottled water. It still sucks! A $25 Mr. Coffee makes better coffee than this. Total waste of time and money, I’m so disappointed in this especially since the original was my holy grail. The Breville looks promising, if not a lot of work, though I’m not sold on that pour spout.

The previous version of the Cuisinart dgb-800 ( think was -600?) Actually had access to remove the hopper on top like that Breville does.

The Cuisinart DGB-900, which I have provides access to the Burr grinder to clean, but one of its faults is that the grind size is too large, which wastes the coffee beans. If I had to choose one now, it would definitely be Breville, because the grind size can be adjusted.

I have had repeated problems with it clogging. I use dark roast (dark, oily blend) and I have since stopped using it. I was tired of troubleshooting it 1 out of 3 uses. I wouldn’t recommend it for dark, oily grinding.

I think the Cuisnart makes "better" coffee because it uses a higher dosing, or higher coffee to water ratio.

I’ve bought 3 of the Breville Grinders. Two them failed on me, and the one I bought for my brother also failed. I just bought the Cuisinart DGB-850 and I’m hoping I have better luck. I’ve sworn off Breville. I also had a Breville toaster oven mysteriously fail after a few short years. Good luck present and future Breville consumers. I’m out of their appliance ecosystem.

    • @JustADad
      @JustADad  2 года назад +3

Those are some valid points you make, I also found the pot a little hard to clean. This machine does require some getting used too. It has some nice features like different sizes of coffee it makes, that is mainly what you buy this for. If you just make a pot of coffee then I might get a nice coffee grinder OXO and a nice coffee maker and keep them separate. If you find you are making different size coffee's say for a travel mug and you like the idea of an all in one then the Brevillle is the one to get but you will have to keep up on cleaning the coffee grinder area.

I have the Breville and if you have a stick brush, it’s not bad to clean. And a trick to keep the inside looking brand new is you put a dishwasher pack in the pot with hot water, let it sit for about 30-60 min, and the coffee stains come right off and it looks brand new. The pour isn’t great, but it’s also not terrible.

For the Breville, It shows 8oz for the 1 cup but it only produces 5.5 - 6oz, I know that a cup of liquid is 8oz but a cup of Coffee is really 6oz, is it just taking 8oz of water and with the output because of the grinds bringing it just down to 6?

I noticed you have a bag of Starbucks beans. Yuck. There are usually local roasters who fresh roast beans. You can get light, medium, dark roast. The finer grind (powder) for espresso, more bitter. Coarse grind for French press, not bitter. I grind my beans coarse, use them in a Drip Coffee maker. I NEVER have bitter coffee. NOT ALL LOCAL COFFEE ROASTERS ARE CREATED EQUAL. you have to try different ones, what your personal preference is.

Breville BDC650BSS Grind Control Coffee Maker coffee maker from Amazon....Current price was about $350 in Dec. 2022. Sooooooo I'm OK with it----but there are some things I don't like. For me, the CONS outweighs the PROS-----I just ordered the Cuisinart DGB-800 coffee maker---because I really like having a hot-plate and glass carafe. I'll try that one----and send back whichever works best for me. --- I'm leaning towards the DGB-800. I'll post an update later this week. @JustADad I'd love to get your thoughts----love your videos.
    Cons:
1). I had to choose the finest grind and "8" top strength to make the coffee to my liking. I'm used to Chemex pour overs with store-bought ground coffee----so maybe that's why.
2). Cleanup is kinda a pain----the coffee grounds have to go through a chute system too get into the basket--- and it seems that you've really really gotta keep it dry not to make a mess. -- I dunno---it just seemed to be an annoyance --- not bad....but again personal preference. -- The DGB-800 dumps directly into the basket.
3). The thermo carafe seems not to keep the coffee "hot" for the amount of time I wanted.... It would stay "warm" but not "hot" - (this is personal preference) I also like to be able to SEE how much coffee I have left to drink.
4). Also, the single-serve coffee setting seemed to be inconsistent for me. Even with paper filters.
    Pros:
1). I REALLY like the overall design. Looks good next to my N'espresso Citiz coffee maker for espresso coffee.
2). I like that you can fill with a full 12 cups of water----and then decide how much you need to brew, single cups, etc----and not have to fill the water reservoir every time.
3). I DO like that I can control the adjustable grind size---however, for me, anything less that Fine/#1 was too weak. Sooooo this kinda goes onto the con side also.
4). I like the water reservoir location in the front-----and I like that there is little to no steam coming out of it during brew (That I could see) -- so good for under counter.
    5). It's actually really easy to program----and I love the detailed display (I'm a tech-guy soooo)
