Thankyou for your work! My wife has dementia and yesterday afternoon the entire coffee pot went missing. It will be found in the next day or two... but I need my coffee this morning! !! You made my day better!!!! :-)
I often make one mug at a time with my technivorm. The brew basket can hold about a half liter (plus grounds) without overflowing. .5 liter of water. 30 grams of coffee. About a minute of full immersion and then release with the "half moon" directly into my large mug. Delicious!
I had the Youbrew and now have the Grind Control. You can talk about Technivorm and all those others - but pound for pound, considering convenience, this is the best coffee maker out there IMHO. Love it. Thanks for the video.
I really enjoyed your review ❤️ couple of Q’s, not sure if you respond but here goes 1) maybe the pot of coffee could be adjusted in strength to a 6? Would that make it less acidic ? 2) how long did it take to brew the single serve ? Kindly Charlotte
I think I might have been the one who asked for this! If not, it's something I've been curious about! Either way, thank you Gail and crew! Very interesting result. I figured the carafe brew would be more pour over esque (usually more acidic on a lighter coffee), but I figured you would get a much bolder cup on the immersion brew. I don't have an immersion dripper, but I've been told it creates a similar cup to an Aeropress (which I am intimately familiar with). Thanks again!
Lots of cleaning/maintenance needed to keep this machine running . Cleaning that is required. You must do it to keep it going.. Well built quality machine, great coffee
It sounded as if there was a slight lack of whole bean delivery just as you started to replenish the hopper. That being said, do you know if the Breville didn't have as much grinds for your single, and thus is the reason why it was a bit "smoother"? I was hoping that you would've redone the grind with the full amount of beans feeding the grinding mechanism.
zeram01 agreed. Pretty sure that the grinder is calibrated for weight by the amount of time it’s ran. So you’re right, if you ran out of beans for any amount of time than there would be less than normal amount of coffee being brewed.
I actually bought the Grind Control falling completely for the convenience factor and I returned it to the store for the exact reason you are detailing. It has nothing to do with the length of time that the coffee has sat but it has to do with the volume of ground coffee that the Grind Control is using. the brewer uses way too much coffee when in carafe mode even when it has been calibrated. I measured it out at nearly 2.2-2.4 grams of coffee per ounce when weighed!!! That means the coffee is under extracted and sour when it comes out. The single cup setting is coming closer to the optimum 1.6 grams per ounce of coffee but it was very unreliable, occasionally I had 1.3 grams per ounce and other times it was 1.7 grams. We love Breville items but their coffee brewers still need work to compete with the Bonavitas, Technivorms, and Brazens of the world.
Thanks for the video; much appreciated. On daily (weekday use) I brew a 16 oz cup, grind size 3, strength 5. On weekends when I have the time I usually brew a 40 oz carafe, grind size 3, strength 5 or 6. I've also found that using the supplied (or another purchased gold mesh filter) .vs. a paper basket makes for a more acidic brew. And yup, I prefer the paper basket brewed coffee. Actually, one of your videos a few months back prompted me to buy this coffee maker. Thanks again. WMM
I appreciate this review, but I wish we had a time machine to see how these machines hold up a year later. lol On Amazon there's a lot of people complaining that the maker was fantastic at first, but it had problems within months.
I tried a 14oz single using a paper filter and everything seemed good until it finished pouring into the cup. It looked about 3 or 4 oz's short. When I went to clean the filter I found the missing water so if you want a single cup you best use the copper filter so you will get all the coffee you expect.
Would like to get a burr grinder coffeemaker notice that this coffeemaker gets a lot of poor reviews on longevity and on the beans poor flow into the grinder any updates or what are the top performing burr grinding coffee machines that are affordable Thanks Gail
Hi Gail! I picked up the Breville Grind coffee maker that came before this one at an SPCA sale and cannot for the life of me figure out which button will descale and already have poured the vinegar in it! Do you by chance know what button to press? This one doesn't have the two large buttons in front, but has four smaller buttons. Please and Thank you!
You should taste these 5-10 minutes later when they have cooled down. Coffee can change a lot when it cools down. I tried a coffee the other day at a coffee house from Fetco drip brewer that had lot of bite to it but once it cooled down for 10 minutes it was much more balanced and sweeter. The difference was actually much more than I usually get when a coffee cools down in my cup. I also tried one another coffee that I got in a paper cup. It was also brewed in the Fetco brewer and it was very hot(just been brewed I guess) and it got more and more flavorful as it cooled down and was actually pretty good after 10-12 minutes in my cup.
+Josh1nonly4life Cheers! Thanks for watching! To answer your question, we carried both Gaggia a while back. But ran into some warranty support issues with Gaggia, and so we decided to focus on Saeco as a brand. You might want to take a look at the Intelia Deluxe model: www.seattlecoffeegear.com/saeco-intelia-deluxe-class-superautomatic-espresso-machine Similar machines from both Saeco and Gaggia :D
I purchased this coffee maker and while the flavor of the coffee was great, the coffee was simply not hot enough even after warming the carafe first. Returned after three days

+Ron Remke Clever! ;D
Thank you! I just got this machine and wasn't happy with how weak the coffee was. I'm excited to try this.
Did you calibrate it? When I got mine it was too strong at 2 then I calibrated it and at 6 it was perfect
I had the Youbrew and now have the Grind Control. You can talk about Technivorm and all those others - but pound for pound, considering convenience, this is the best coffee maker out there IMHO. Love it. Thanks for the video.
+BananaChipzzz Love it! Cheers! Great to hear first hand experience ;D
I have the YouBrew Glass, and it has died. How do you compare the Grind Control vs the YouBrew?
I really enjoyed your review ❤️ couple of Q’s, not sure if you respond but here goes

+MixyDoodle You totally were! Thanks for the question, we were surprised with the result! Cheers!
Thanks for the comparison. Just bought one of these and love it but haven’t tried single serve yet

Going to try this. I think my Carafe is just old and making my coffee taste funky.

+WinnipegMedicalMJ Glad you are enjoying this machine! Thanks for sharing your experience! Cheers!
I love the you brew. too bad it does not come out at 205 degrees but matches everything in my kitchen. Thanks for testing Gail.

When using a paper filter, wet the filter first.
Great review. Looks like a nice coffee maker to have for those of us with limited counter space. Does the LCD backlight go off when not in use?

Thanks Gail
It's a great coffee maker, just save your receipt and treat your machine well and clean
🦊 It's a great machine if you take the time to maintain it. I've been using mine daily for 5 years.

What would be the best grind setting for a single serve vs a pot?

How many grams of coffee do you think you poured for the 8oz cup you just brewed?
Love all your videos! You guys are my go to for reviews!!! Any reason why you guys don't sell the gaggia anima? Looking at the prestige

What grind size you recommend for single
Help!! I want to make 3 cups in the pot and no grinding. Please help.
Which provides less caffein, low grind setting or low strength setting?
I know this is an old video, but would you recommend weighing out the beans or just let the machine do it's thing?
Definitely weigh and calibrate...completely changed (and in my case enhanced) the flavor profile. Night and day
A single cup isn't 8oz only 5.5 - 6oz is that normal?
Does it make any changes in the grind setting for pot to single serve?
+Ahmad M. Mokhtar You could make the adjustment, but the machine does not do so automatically
I purchased this coffee maker and while the flavor of the coffee was great, the coffee was simply not hot enough even after warming the carafe first. Returned after three days
poindexter then it was defective

You forgot to mention single serve leaves a soupy mess in your filter cup. Not worth it. Just brew a pot.
Mm
I thought the immersion method would have produced a stronger cup. interesting....
Immersion usually produces a less strong cup than pour-over due to the lack of constant agitation.
