    I always find Vanessa so real and sincere! She is gorgeous with a smile that is simply incredible...but beneath that, she is so likable, kind, and caring. She has the heart of a teacher and I really appreciate that. I can totally relate to her and love her teachings. Her husband is one lucky man! Keep up your hard work Vanessa!

    Vanessa is not only smart
    she's one of the nicest people that I've seen on youtube ..
    look at the way she's so caring and considerate to other people's emotions, in this video
    even when this man interrupts her she tries to fix the sitiuation and brings up another topic whithout embarrasing him .. while keeping on a smiley attitude

    I thought when a person crosses their arms in front of them, it meant they're hugging themselves for comfort.

  • @whitneyangelie3682
    @whitneyangelie3682 Год назад +16

    I’ve heard all of these a million times before because this stuff fascinates me and I’m always wanting to learn more BUT I’ve also learned take it all with a grain of salt. You really have to get someone’s baseline down before you start trying to read them through body language. For example: I always tilt my head (and raise my brows another supposed sign of “attraction”) when I talk to people, whether I’m attracted to them or not. Also I play with my lips a lot as a habit, so her last point would mean nothing with me. Also if I’m sitting in an uncomfortable chair or cold I will cross my arms. So while knowing these tips can be helpful, you have to pay attention to so many other factors about the person you’re trying to analyze and not jump to conclusions… IMO Reading micro expressions is a much clearer indicator when it comes to reading someone, but you have to be very observant and vigilant to be good at it.

    Imagine dating her... Every movement and facial expressions she's analyzing.
    *Update* Everyone, I didn't mean my comment with bad intentions. I literally meant, imagine dating someone or her and they're analyzing you and you had no idea because they're pro level status and you're already at a disadvantage. I'm a fan of Vanessa's channel and what she teaches.

    Although body language can provide a lot of information as to what their mood and such is, fabricated body language can actually provide a negative effect. I had previously encountered an individual who had purposely tried to use the crinkle while we were talking for the first time. I realized that the individual had been doing so without proper tone changes; therefore, it indicated that he was not truly as passionate to the topic as his facial expression indicates. Therefore, this has not only changed my first impression of him; however, the thought of inauthenticity also lingered. Body language is nice to know to figure out people, and it should only be used to project how you truly feel rather than to fabricate someone else who is not you.

    I think I can at times anyway have a flirty personality. It doesn't really mean much though but I notice I do the head tilt thing almost all the all time regardless if I'm into someone or not. I also smile a lot too regardless of who's there. Also yesterday, I touched my chest but it was because I had heartburn and nothing more lol. The worst was probably when I would lick my lips constantly when I was younger only because they were dry. So it's best not to take this stuff too seriously :) Other people may look really dead pan but might actually like you.

    Arm crossing isnt necessarily closing, if the arms are not crossed totally (one kinda rest on other) and thumbs are visible (fists no clinched) that is called self hug and it actualy means comfort!

    A classic study by Dr. Albert Mehabrian is often misquoted as “the total impact of a message is based on: 7% words used; 38% tone of voice, volume, rate of speech, vocal pitch; 55% facial expressions, hand gestures, postures and other forms of body language.” But Mehabrian never claimed that you could view a movie in a foreign language and accurately guess 93 percent of the content by watching body language. His research was focused on the communication of emotions - specifically, liking and disliking.

    • @murrayfarrellmc454
      @murrayfarrellmc454 9 лет назад +3

      Warenikk I agree wholeheartedly. 7% is drawing a long bow. It turns the guru content into bunk. The moment I hear 7% I just turn off.

      Warenikk Thanks a lot for your clarification, which explains direct everyday experience far better than this reigning misquote: indeed, along the line of this misquote, one could never interpet correctly any recorded message or even the reasoning of Stephen Hawking.

      +Warenikk well aren't you smart. I'm impressed and attracted - and I never even saw your face once. (Actually I do appreciate that tip because a lot of people do interpret that the way you said.

    • @murrayfarrellmc454
      @murrayfarrellmc454 8 лет назад +1

      +Warenikk An update to my previous reply. Mehrabian NEVER included gestures, posture and etc in his analysis.
      In fact, the Visual component is restricted to facial expression/s only. I am pleased to say that I have had an email conversation with the Professor and ultimately purchased his book, 'Silent Messages'. The professor also stated that his findings are often presented as a "Gross exaggeration".

    Don't women (and all people) generally want to be attractive to everyone they meet? It means that everyone will treat you better than if you weren't. This means that you can't use these "cues" as reference for when a girl likes someone, because they will constantly (unconsciously) do these things to appear amiable.

      Tamara McNelly You know, it can be comfortable, but it transmits the impression that you´re have your "heart closed".

    • @mdgsk824
      @mdgsk824 9 лет назад +1

      +Tamara McNelly It could've started off as a defensive gesture and you got so used to it and the comfort it gives you that it stayed. The point of it is that it happens 'suddenly' as soon as someone says or does something you dont agree with or when you get approached by someone unwanted. The key to understand someones body language is to study the individuals natural body movements and mannerisms first and then look for drastic/sudden changes in behaviour. Generally speaking crossed arms are a sign of discomfort(trying to get more comfortable) and resistance.

    • @lucyrosevelt5274

    For years I taught that 7% of communication was non-verbal because you hear it so often until I decided to do some research and after half an hour found where it came from and that it's missing the context: small children showing whether they want to an ice-cream. The 7% figure when applied to all communication is just plain wrong. So bad it was in the first minute. I switched off straight away. (And I'm talking about training I was giving in the early 2000s, pretty depressing that the myth is still being repeated.)

    Arms folded is more indicative of pacifying ones self than being ‘guarded’ or ‘defensive’. Seems to be a common misconception in a lot of presentations I’ve been watching. Is this correct?

    I think most of these are culture-specific, I don't doubt the evolution part but I think people in different parts of the world show attraction slightly different, depending on what they've been socialised to believe is acceptable. For example, most westerners would tell you that when a person doesn't make eye contact they're either hiding something or they're not interested, that might be true for people in the West but in my country, too much eye contact is believed to be a sign of disrespect. So when I'm talking to an adult I tend to break eye contact a lot, that's just one example. My point is, context matters when you're looking for these "signs".

    Hi Vanessa. You look impressive. My question to you is if you see muslim women which she is quiet shy and due to some cultural and customs refrains or restrictions, she might not show her feeling to opposite gender. So in that situation how can we read or assess her different feelings which might be controlled?
    Thanks.

    I have noticed with myself if someone points out something I do that I am not aware of I will stop doing it. Usually they like the quirk I was doing but now that I was aware of it I just stopped. You being aware of the attraction signals, did something go off in your mind when you did them? Was it still a sub conscious gesture or would you do it on purpose because you knew what it meant to use that body language?

    Hi Vanessa, I always find it awkward what to do with my hands. I know how to stand straight and sit properly, but really I don't know where to put my hands without looking awkward. Should I put them on my laps separately on top of each thigh? Should I hold my palms together? Forearm out or back arm out? When I was standing still should I just leave my hands hanging on the side?
    And also is it true it's better to not put one of my knee on top of the other? (I don't know what's the term in English but I guess you understand what I mean..). I read that it's better to sit with the knees aligned to one another, touching without any gaps. My thighs aren't exactly slender so having the knees touching together actually take some effort to keep it up. Is it supposed to be like this to maintain a body posture? Fake it till make it?
