His problem was that he tried too hard and wasn’t patient enough on the track. Too much pressure to live up to the Earnhardt name. I think it’s also the reason that Dale Jr didn’t perform as well as his talent and potential could’ve

There’s no shame at all with staying in the nascar truck series. It still pays lots of money and most race car drivers out there will never step foot in one but they dive into cup and suck , perfect examples ron hornaday, Mike skinner, Jack sprague, Todd bodine, etc. they did quite well

When I was with her going to places like the track, or the grocery store we'd often bump into each other because we lived in the same hometown. We saw him less frequently after Dale Sr. died. Probably busy dealing with his tyrant of a stepmother. The last time we saw him was at a Christmas parade over 16 years ago. That's how I remember everything anyway. I was just a little kid so I memory on things is a bit fuzzy.

He wasn’t a bust as he never was a “high draft pick”. He was never on a top team. You can’t say someone with no history of success and not on a top 10 team is a bust. People wanted him to succeed because of his name, but that’s not his fault. If a player is drafted into the NFL in the 7th round with one year of experience you wouldn’t label them a bust.

I like this series already. It's informative without really passing a judgement on someone. He's an interesting footnote in massive chapter of NASCAR history. I can't imagine the pressure he must have put on himself racing since Jr was coming up and looked like a superstar and his dad was having a resurrection of a career that never saw it's fruition. If he'd been able to spend more time in ARCA and develop, maybe he'd have been more successful in NASCAR. It really looks like he had some talent but pushed himself and his car too hard at times, lost it, and couldn't finish. And, he did most of this in less-than-stellar cars and teams
I knew most of that story. But wow to "come back and totally redeem himself" with a ride at Goodwood is just a great ending that I did not know. Thank you.
I met him the day after Dale died. I was at Martha's house watching it on a rotation as I was on the police department. Fans were driving by so much, pulling up the yard and generally not being very respectful in their fandom.
If Dale doesn’t die I can see Kerry being a top 15-20 driver every weekend just by having an experienced person on his side to help him get the tracks down.

Wrecking in his Cup debut after only a couple laps hurt his chances, but the lackluster performance in the FitzBradshaw car in 03 then that bad season driving for ThorSport pretty much sealed Kerry's fate that he would not have a full-time ever again, though he was hoping for a full-time deal in 09 or something like that.
Busch Series Leeches should be its own series some day. To talk about the drivers not named Kyle Busch who dominated the Busch Series or maybe even the Sportsman Division even though they were racing in cup.
The one thing that I'm most impressed with is that Dale Sr always wanted his children to reach success on their own and they did it. Kerry's NASCAR success wasn't great, but at least he earned being there on his own without Dale Sr's help.
