Great points! 14:03 That Medicham actually is indeed a SR alt art, there are no IRs in Evolving Skies. You can tell if it's an IR because the name of the pokemon will be just it's name, no "ex" or "v" next to it.
The Rip n ship thing has gotten kind of wild, and it's become kind of a social thing where you effectively gamble in a chat room while everyone sees what you get in your packs, but you pay a 30-40% premium usually. I don't think it's going anywhere any time soon either.
It was over hyped and the TCG price on sealed product shows it. ETBs were $160 on pre-order and I've found it at resale for $90. The hit rates are trash and people aren't buying packs because of it. It's a great set, but B tier imo.
@rkan665 theres literally sales at market every day and everything is higher pre release then drops and you're talking about the most hyped set of all time this is the 1st time we've ever seen something perform this good out the gate 151 was not this bad right now it's bottoming out you see prices stagnating because supply is starting to dry up go look at the quantities vs the sales per day until we start seeing real restock you're gonna see a upturn this just happened with surging and this set is much stronger the card value to pack cost average just doesn't work that way too you will see an increase in price to compensate with the set value because people are going to chase the multiple +$100 cards I've watched thousands of packs sell out each night on live streams at or past market
100% I think this is actually the prime reason we are were we are now. Some people say good sets like 151, but the market wasnt crazy then or when Surging Sparks came out. It exploded the month after PTCG Pocket. I myself got back into the game then. Now I have spent ~15k, so Imma step back a bit in February.
Awesome content! Honestly I feel like even though the Pokemon company doesn't get money from cards selling for higher price, the increasing value of cards as collectibles definitely help them in sales and keeping the new sets gaining popularity and demand.
Thousands of people. You might not participate in it but the casuals take advantage of the rip n ships. And is as close as you can get to having access to a LGS where you can buy different variety of packs all in 1 go. These rip and shippers consume a ton of product and they probably take up 50% or more of the product consumption since they are running operations non-stop. Does not matter what set, how old, good or a bad set. As long as people are going to pay for the pack price, they will crack the boxes and packs.
Rip and ship make sense. With Rip and ship you can sell your bulk instead of throwing it away, make trades with other people and not go up to a random child, and you get your hits shipped and if they do a presale and express ship it thats how you see cards on ebay 1 week in advance. You just have to find a good rip and shipper because you are buying MSRP packs instead of punching old ladies in the face for an etb.
Great video. Like you said at the end, I think pokemon is definitely capitalizing on fomo by making stock of cards more of a mystery. Exclusivity sells well but limits the amount, too much saturation and no one buys, if they capture both they sell tons of product fast. Hidding how much product there is (vending machines, big box, limiting official website) definitely creates artificial scarcity. Big Box might be in on it to by doing weekly small 100 product restocks. Will be interesting to see if prismatic actually every reaches msrp or if it stays high
The tcg pocket is really fun. Been playing it since it came out. I have enough hour glasses to open 50 packs. Been waiting for the new release of cards
Great points!

Ahhhh I see thanks!

Yeah there's a big gambling aspect to it. Nice description
“Prismatic is doing iffy” ok you lost any credibility you had
Lol yea I did the same thing and turned off at that point that whole sentence before was off too

@JacktheDoctor nahhh Pokémon pocket didn't do it it definitely was this new set and people fomo over evee and that moonbreon card
@@mjj8560Probably both, TCG pocket has over 40 million players already
Awesome content! Honestly I feel like even though the Pokemon company doesn't get money from cards selling for higher price, the increasing value of cards as collectibles definitely help them in sales and keeping the new sets gaining popularity and demand.
Thanks! Yup it's all connected
Rip & ship is so lame who pays for that😂

@ That's a nice comparison. That it replaces in person LGS connection for many people

Interesting thanks for the info! I haven't really joined rip and ships so I don't have first hand experience

Great summary! Yeah I forgot the term artificial scarcity but it's exactly that
