The Burmese junta continues to terrorise ethnic minorities, driving them from their villages. Holding little hope that the elections will bring change, ethnic militias struggle to care for their people.
Colonel Nerdah Mya, leader of the Karen militia, the KNLA, brings his troops into another destroyed minority village. They have come to provide healthcare for the malnourished residents. Their stance is clear: "The Burmese are executing genocide against the Karen people". Exercising a brutal scorched earth policy throughout the region, the SPDC has driven thousands of refugees into hiding. Mya and his men are trying to find a safe place to rebuild the village, and yet the threat of the ever-approaching army hangs over their efforts. The guerrilla leader is certain the elections won't change the regime: "We are trying to rebuild our community...They have their own plan".

The subcontinent has a complicated history. First we all were ruled by foreigners and when they left our lands, they divided all of us. Be it punjabis or bengalis or gujaratis or nagas or other tribal people.
And we too as humans and citizens have failed to raise our voices for peace and ask our government about the situation, in those areas.
I just hope that NSCN and Government take appropriate steps for peace, once and for all.

It's always a hotchpotch in this kind of things. India wants to build good relation with its neighbour. Road to SE Asia can only be build through Myanmar. It needs China influence lowered. So they build infrastructure and provide arms. Insurgency groups target these infra projects. Sad cycle. India or China or Thailand will sell arms to Myanmar. How they are used by the Burma army is up them.
The Myanmar people need to solve this themselves. Any outside direct interference will just make things worse.

No they didn’t, they’re a migrating people. My family has only been in Thailand for like 6-7 generations, my ancestors migrated from Burma. It is only recently we have properly settled
Saw Nyi Win Naing no Karen have no written history, it is only recently they have used the Roman alphabet from western missionaries. Burmese are related to the tai people group and speak from the Tai language group, while Karen is more from the west.

When I was in high school in Oklahoma we have a lot of Burmese foreign exchange students who have escaped to go to school with me and I was always curious to what was going on. I had a friend whom her father was a doctor so she was very knowledgeable and knew more English than the rest and tried to explain a little to me about it but I truly didn’t know the full story. I wish now I was more interested and eager to learn about it. I feel guilty for not investing more time trying to understand what was happening.

My dad was fighting in burma but he was a usa guy and he was in the ww2 war in burma usa vs japan but he died in the plane is plane was a p51 mustang he died when his plane got hit in the engine and the wings it crashed my great great grandpa was in the ww2 fighting veitkong he was in a f4e phantom he crashed and he died r.i.p dad and grandpa

My father is karen , but he grew up in Yangon ( Burmese State ) , so he did not know how to speak Karen language .in the late 1990s my dad and mom move to Thailand , when my dad and mom come back to Karen state , no one like them , no one wanted to talk them , why?????? They (Karen) said because my dad cannot speak karen language even though he is a Karen .
