Thanks! The instructions were great and detailed. Just a tip for anyone who needs to replace the LCD display unit. I found one on Amazon with the ribbon and it sells for under $30.00 It was shipped to me in three days.
The Nissan dealer told me that to fix this issue they need to replace the whole dashboard, obviously that will cost me a lot of money, thanks to your video I was able to fix it by myself, thank you very much
Thanks for this video. I ordered a replacement screen with attached ribbon cable for $36 from Amazon. The new screen is much brighter and you're video let me do the whole job in under 45 minutes!
I just finish installing my new LCD screen, I bought mine at Ebay for 22 dollars and this video really help. The only thing I had issues was putting back the speedometer gauges, it took me 2 times to get speed back to zero.Thank you
100% Awesome video! I watched this on a Tuesday, had a ribbon and solder iron kit ordered that same day from Amazon ($18), and now at the end of Thursday I have a working screen! Thanks for the accurate and very helpful step-by-step :) I'm going to search through the rest of your videos for anything else I need now.
I had this same problem on my 06 Quest. I went the route of purchasing a new lcd screen with ribbon cable attached. The toughest part for me was prying up the plastic shroud. Once I got that off everything else was cake. Thanks man!
Just subscribed to your channel. As the owner of a 2004 Quest and as a broadcast radio professional, I appreciate your videos because they are to the point and don't skip steps. VERY mobile-friendly! Keep up the great work and don't be surprised if I post a question or two.
You're welcome! Wish I had seen your lower control arm video a few months ago before the local garage changed me $1,000. Didn't know it was that easy. QUESTION: I might have to change out the ac compressor. Doesn't look to bad, but don't see any videos from anyone showing how to do it. Do you have any experience with that?
I have not replaced the compressor, but I have a video on replacing the drive belt which wraps around the compressor. You will also need a mechanic to help evacuate the refill the R134. Those refill bottles you get from auto shops aren't very precise. Here is the belt video: ruclips.net/video/ld-PK319w9c/видео.html
Great vid with detailed instructions! You saved my great neighbor several dollars! I just finished the repair for him with no problems! Thanks a million!
your video is the best I've found yet. your detail and explanations are very well done. i would be interested in watching more of your videos on other ways to keep the quest in good working condition.
Perfect instructions!!! Followed it step by step and our 2005 Quest has a clear working LCD, now we know how many miles and how much fuel we have. You're great, keep up the great work and once again many thanks!
Definitely wanted to thank you for such a detailed and informative video. Everything went well...well...after a 2nd attempt... So the LCD basically reverted to its original form of unreadable information after my initial installation. I opened things back up and really heated the strip and pressed much more firmly than the first time. I held the iron on for roughly a minute and also moved from left to right until I felt comfortable to put things back together and things are working perfectly. Thanks again for taking the time to detail this!
Just want to say Thanks A Lot for the step by step, my car was without a display and Thanks to you it works great. I bought one on eBay for 26 dollars and it works fine thanks again😀
Perfect, it was a bit scary pulling the needles off the gauge and I had to gently pry with a screwdriver but they did come off and everything went great. Thanks a million!
Thanks for the thorough explanation. I just saved a lot of money by doing it myself. I bought the LCD with the cable already on Ebay for only $21 bucks. Keep it up!
Our 05 quest we had, had the white display, ours started to fail at around 165,000 miles and we had some other issues with the van at the time, mainly the timing chain but this was helpful in me understanding what goes on to repair this. Thanks!
Hello. Thanks for the great video. Helped me so much. While replacing my Screen I broke the white piece that holds the screen to the board. Any idea what is it called ? Can I find it online ? Thank you
Wow--great job--I wouldn't even come close to tackling something like that😟 Want to try a 2014 Nissan Murano--mine isnt working and the local garage doesnt seem to want to tackle it. Again great job!
Awesome !!!! $18 bucks. Two day Amazon shipping. Taking my time following your tutorial. Priceless !!!! Works like a champ. The only negative for me was that I bought the Quest being told the mileage was 51,000 and come to find out it is actually 185,275. Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!! None the less, the car is in great shape. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I really like the thoroughness of your video...much more than most, not only Nissan Quest info...many others included...Mucho Mahalo...from the Big Island of Hawaii...
thanks for this great video, u saved me $300+. i fix mine myself with this video. i actually tried to send the whole cluster to someone who said after receiving it that's unrepairable, i told him to mail it back, so i fixed it myself for $20.
Excellent video. i am currently working on my 2004 Quest and I will be installing the new LCD with ribbon cable as soon as it arrives. I have a question. I was told that you need to reset the passenger air bag warning LED, and I have also noticed my "check engine" LED is lit. How do you reset these after you complete the re-installation?
There is no reason you need to reset the pass air bag warning light. Make sure you don't turn on the ignition with the cluster removed. AS for Check Engine Light, get a scan tool and find out what the trouble code is. That's a separate issue.
My 2004 cluster goes on and off and flash on and off all inside lights are not working at all do you think the cluster is the problem or what do you think?
Great video. I'm also have a problem with the dash lights dont turn on all the time. If I give it a love tap the lights will turn on. Please advice what should I do
Thank you so much for this helpful video! I was able to get my 06 Quest fixed up with your help. I noticed your Quest has the same whine noise as mine when you started it at the end. Do you know what causes the whining noise?
Hi, I did this job back in the fall, and would say, that IF you don't have the special soldering tools, then just buy the LCD with the cable already installed. THEN.. (see video at 11:31, and instead of bending the cable..(tends to pull pins away from PC board,,, Cut an 1/8" groove in the plastic directly across from the ribbon (dremel Tool), and bring the cable streight out from the PC board. The ribbon cable will then curve up to the LCD screen when you go to install it. Dont no why Nissan couldn't have forseen this problem!!! You don;t have to be a socket Rhientist !!!
Hey man, thank you so much, I need to fix this to pass inspection and the mechanic. Was charging 250, heh got it done for 50 bucks with this vid. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for this. I bought my quest used and was told by the dealer "This is a huge electrical issue" Which I knew was a lie but still. Happy to have it fixed and within my meagre budget!
Excellent video! I replaced my LCD display in my 2005 Nissan Quest today and it went fine thanks to your help. I do have one small issue. Instead of tacking the repair of the ribbon, I bought a new LCD with a ribbon from a re-seller on Ebay. Much easier. The display is fine, except a few of the areas are real dim. Two of the gas gauge lines are visible, but barely. One of the engine temperature lines is also very dim. And one of the odometer numbers is missing the bottom line. So it is much better than before the repair, but still a bit disappointing. I was very careful about installing the ribbon and made sure it didn't get pinched when I fit the board back down into the dash assembly. So I'm wondering if you have any theories as to why this is happening? is it possible that I got a faulty LCD display? Or do I have some sort of install deficiency. I might add that it is quite cold today. Could it be temperature sensitive? Would appreciate your opinion! And a huge thanks for the Quest videos. Keep 'em coming!
My initial thought is the problem has to do with the quality of the LCD. The numbers and the lines come directly from the LCD itself. The lighting comes from the LED's that are soldered on the circuit board. I don't believe these replacement LCD display you buy from eBay are OEM. If you want you can try removing the ribbon cable and reinstalling it but if that does not fix it then its a problem with the LCD itself.
+dial2fast That is my suspicion too. I plan to call the LCD supplier tomorrow and see if they may have any ideas or suggestions, but I'm prepared for them to suggest that I may have done damage when I installed it. While that is possible, I still think it is worth a phone call as I took great care handling the LCD and ribbon. Last resort is the possibility of a low eBay rating in the event they just tell me it's my fault. Thanks for the quick response!
Can you make a video on how to flush the heater core on your quest? I've been watching all your videos on the your quest and they are all very helpful. Thanks!
thank you so much for your help with this video, i did it myself today, and things went perfect. however the in cabin air filter wouldn't come out can you do another video about it please? i removed all the nuts and everything but it seems to have a black metal keeping it stuck inside.
Man you do it like a pro and looks simple but i know it isn't . Thank you for showing how to replace the LCD and the ribbon and excellent detailed work love the step by step instructions .
I'm looking to replace my back up alarm on my quest, I believe is also located in the same general area. Do you have a video on this subject. Thank you for your help!!
Great video. Thank you for sharing your skills & knowledge! Exactly what I need - mines been busted since 2008. I’ll be replacing the entire unit as mine had humidity damage - water in the actual gauge. Probably would change the whole thing anyway because I don’t think my fingers can handle the ribbon work 🙂
Hello, great video.I did not mark the odometer needles place before removing it. What is the correct way to put it back? I tried placing it at zero but after a few cycles it starts at 5mph even if the vehicle is at full stop. One time I put it below zero and the speed was way off and vice versa. Can you advise please? thank you
If you look at 4:22 in the video, it shows you where the needle stops moving counterclockwise, try to install the needle a little bit and move it to the same stop position as you in the video. If you are off, just pull needle off and reinstall until you get the needle to stop at the same position as what you see in the video. The other way is to try installing the needle while the cluster is installed in the vehicle with the clear lens off. Speedometer should rest at zero when not driving, and Tach should go to zero when engine off or 600-700 rpm when warm engine is idling.
I went to a pick your part. Luckily I found a used one .. cost me $5 .. it works like a charm. I took the whole thing. Not just the cable. The white plastic square that just clips to the board 😎 oh and btw I didn't need to unplug that back long ribbon cable attached to the big console. I'm gangsta.
I purchased my LCD from an outfit in CA. German Audio Tech. My first LCD ribbon was messed up...They sent me a replacement, very fast.. Appears to be a well run outfit.
+dial2fast Hey, I have a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder with a digital odometer display. The only thing wrong with it is a digit missing from the 5th position. ie 1*4783. I need it fixed and don't want to spend a bunch of money on something so small. Do you think it might be a ribbon cable issue or something else. It's very odd and no one has seen it before. Lmk and thank you, this video was very informative.
Great! I'll try on mine, Nissan is not taking responsibility of this, around 3 years ago, I took it to a Nissan dealer, and they just said "nah, you need to replace the dashboard, it will be costly"
in my 2012 Nissan Maxima my display does not light up anything would it be possible do you think to change that part out or is that not possible in your appinion?
If it doesn't light up, then it might be a problem with the backlight which for 2012 would use LED and not a light bulb. If the display is not showing or messed up, then it's the LCD. These are just general info, and I don't have the specifiics to the Maxima.
Thank you for sharing your skills. I would like yo know were did you buy the cable. Can I buy it thru online? I just liked & subscribed your channel. Tnx for your help!
Great work! I was waiting for this video for long time because I think is a common problem in the Nissan Quest. But I have a question for you. My cluster has no missing pixels. Sometimes I loose the orange back light and all information showed in the quartz display, and when happened I have to hit the top to recover the light and information. Even, when light goes off, the other message lights at right side goes off or turn on with no explanation. I am considering to fix it but same way as you but maybe the problem is not simply as only change the ribbon . Please, give me your opinion. Thanks so much for your time and congratulations for your channel.
+italo potesta The LCD itself does not emit any light. The orange light you see is a back light provided by the orange color LED that is on a circuit board behind the LCD. If banging on your instrument cluster makes the light go on and off, then it's either a connector problem or your circuit board has a circuit problem. You can first try to remove the cluster and check the connector at back and wiggle all 3 connectors to see if you can duplicate the problem.
+dial2fast My 2005 does the same thing. I removed the cover and found out the problem is the connector your thumb is on @ 5:12. Do you know if that can connector can be replaced or how to replace it? I drive around with the slightly loose so that every so often I can push the plug in to check my gas level...LOL not good. Thanks for any advice you may have.
+jay cee It will be hard to find a replacement connector to replace. See if it's a bad solder on that connector and try to resolder it to see if that fixes it.
HEY! I have a question about the display going in and out . Some time the light display doesn;t show up for a whole day, so I have to make sure that I have gas in because some time the display goes and comes. Do you know what could cause this problem. Thanks.
If you are referring to the same LCD display shown in this video where the display comes and goes, then the problem is the ribbon cable going back as mentioned in this video.
Okay I must have went wrong somewhere. Only part of my screen is work. The temp gage two numbers on the odometer and you can barely see the fuel gage at all. What did I do wrong?
does anyone know how to fix the MIL/engine lights cluster section? my Quest have codes, but the Engine light and other lights on the right side, is not lighting up on the dashboard.
Once again, another great video from dial2fast! Followed your steps and the wife's van now has working odometer and fuel gauge. I'd like to add that the air bag light was on after disconnecting the cluster but instructions for resetting can be found here: questdriver.com/forums/topic/airbag-light-flashing/ Many thanks!
thank you very much , i got the LCD screen at Ebay ,and i did the job by my self it worked perfect,, i really apreciate this video .........a million thanks.
Excellent, followed video and replaced ribbon w/ lcd screen for $20. Called and dealer quoted $875 over phone. Thanks a million :)
I ordered the display for $18 from eBay. Finished the work in less than 30 mins. Great video!

I followed this video and everything turned out great. I installed a new part instead of only the ribbon.

Thank you so much for this. I bought my quest used and was told by the dealer "This is a huge electrical issue"
Which I knew was a lie but still. Happy to have it fixed and within my meagre budget!
Thanks great video! I found one on Ebay for less than $20 including shipping with the ribbon already attached! Success on the first try.
Awesome!! I was afraid to try it but your video gave me the boost I needed and it worked great. Saves a bunch of money!!

Thanks, just did the entire LCD instead of soldering. I didn't want to deal with the soldering because of the hurry. Great video tho
NICE video. TIP use a sewing needle etc, and make a small scratch on each edge of ribbin before cleaning. the scratch will not wipe off.
Great video I changed my board today with no problems great step by step thank you.
Can you make a video on how to flush the heater core on your quest? I've been watching all your videos on the your quest and they are all very helpful. Thanks!

Thanks so much for the video. I watched, followed, and got the problems fixed on my 2004 Nissan Quest. Again, Thanks!
Always good to hear stories like yours. Thanks for sharing!
Omg thank you so much for this. I tried this last year it worked for two months, not bad for a fist try I guess.

Excellent, good to hear!
What's the pink tool you're using to remove the plastic panels?
It's a plastic pry tool that I got many years ago. You can get something similar like this set amzn.to/2TIUfaN
Thanks very much for this video, I was able to buy the LCD sets on amazon and it works perfectly for me.Very helpful video.

Thanks for your help. I think I did something wrong the needle for the speed is not moving at all :( any suggestion?
The only thing I can think of is the needle got pushed too far down onto the pin.
Hello, do you have to program the miles? The miles are not lost?
The miles is not stored in the gauge cluster.
dial2fast ok. Thanks 👍👍
Thanks for your video I fixed my LCD display problem easy fixed do it yourself :)
where did you get that tool attached to the drill at 2:30
Lowe's, $30.
I purchased my LCD from an outfit in CA. German Audio Tech. My first LCD ribbon was messed up...They sent me a replacement, very fast.. Appears to be a well run outfit.
Thank you very much! Install a little nervous but done well. Thank you for your video
Good. Thanks for sharing
Thanks to your video, I fixed mine!!! Thank you so much for sharing
Thanks for the video it helped me fix my Nissan
Great! I'll try on mine, Nissan is not taking responsibility of this, around 3 years ago, I took it to a Nissan dealer, and they just said "nah, you need to replace the dashboard, it will be costly"
100 percent work well ,Just got my order and install by myself .. All work well
in my 2012 Nissan Maxima my display does not light up anything would it be possible do you think to change that part out or is that not possible in your appinion?
If it doesn't light up, then it might be a problem with the backlight which for 2012 would use LED and not a light bulb. If the display is not showing or messed up, then it's the LCD. These are just general info, and I don't have the specifiics to the Maxima.
Thank you for sharing your skills. I would like yo know were did you buy the cable. Can I buy it thru online? I just liked & subscribed your channel. Tnx for your help!
You can buy out on Amazon or Ebay. I think I put the link in the description of this video.
Best van ever made
+dial2fast Will look into that. thank u
Great display fellow. I was able to get the LCD and Ribbon cable sets on amazon and it works perfectly for me ,great video very helpful ,thank you .
Awesome video! Got mine all fixed up thanks!

Ok Thanks
Also not only that the warning Lights and Indicator lights as well.
Okay I must have went wrong somewhere. Only part of my screen is work. The temp gage two numbers on the odometer and you can barely see the fuel gage at all. What did I do wrong?
Great tutorial, ordering parts today. Thanks!

Wow nice close up of it working correctly! Lol
does anyone know how to fix the MIL/engine lights cluster section? my Quest have codes, but the Engine light and other lights on the right side, is not lighting up on the dashboard.
Once again, another great video from dial2fast! Followed your steps and the wife's van now has working odometer and fuel gauge. I'd like to add that the air bag light was on after disconnecting the cluster but instructions for resetting can be found here:
