I have to do this on my daughters quest tomorrow. Seems like every car is different these days, as opposed to when an oil change was pretty much standard procedure. You answered all the questions I had, plus a few. Thanks for a well done video. It helped.

NEVER use a filter wrench to tighten a filter. Only to remove it. Oil filters AWLAYS should be installed hand tight 3/4 turns past gasket contact.

Thanks to this video I was able to apply this fix and stop my oil leak completely. I would like to add that since this video it appears the part needed has had quite a few revisions to it. At first it appears the seal is to big but you can get it to go in all the way by finagle I in there.

This video had one key moment with very poor camera control that ruined the entire day of searching the internet for where the location of the drain plug was because the video went black and then the drain plug came in to focus with no referance of where it was in relation to where you were earlier. And being so close to the vehicle made it seem super huge so the tiny grenade textured cover looked the size of a flatbed trailer so i was looking all over for this huge skid plate. I looked in the middle, the back, under the radiator, i took the wheels off. But then i finally say the tiny oil pan and went "seriously? Its right here?"

Nissan uses almost the same engine design on my 2016 Infinity QX60, old , but should help in long term reliability...I hope :-)... The engine is good considering the CVT is adequate

Some people pour oil into it but it's really not necessary, and it can get messy with oil dripping all over the place. The filter will fill up with oil once you star the car very quickly. No harm there.

My gasket was blown but now fixed! Can I still change the oil on my quest even tho it looks like cappuccino inside the engine? Thank you!
i always use a small torque wrench on the drain bolts... torque spec about 24-25 ft lbs

Bro, you have the best Nissan quest repair vids. I totally appreciate it. do you know the part # for the copper crush washer for the drain plug? I did oil change 2 weeks ago and filled oil to the full mark on the dip stick. I checked yesterday and it was a little lower than the full mark. And there is NO leak any where on the ground where the van is parked. What could be the reason for this oil usage?
Sorry, I don't have the copper crush washer part# because whenever buying Nissan filters from dealer or from ebay seller, they always throw them in. I think that small amount of oil level drop is fine. Check again in couple weeks and see if drops further. Probably you don't have any problem.

A 2004 Nissan quest takes the whole 5 quarts but you could put 4 1/2 quarts of oil they burn oil your van will be low on oil in a few miles on the highway be careful
I'm feeling confident to changing my oil/ filter. I have a 2015 Nissan nv3500. I want to improve performance but not compromise my fuel economy. Should I switch to synthetic? Which oil do u recommend? Do u recommend a high performance oil filter too?

+Brian Temple It's just from a roll of chrome molding you find at auto parts store. It has a sticky backing you just cut and stick on.

another question I have for you. my van has a 80k miles on it. I used mobile 1 full synthetic extended perfomance oil this time. would full synthetic oil be a problem?
Used high mileage oil like castro the green bottle plus buy it from Wal-Mart store you save some money o yeah once you car go over 75 thousands mileage it's consider high mileage

I have a 2004 nissan quest with 135000 miles, and I was wondering what's the best oil to use?
There is much debate on using synthetic or Mobil1, etc. My believe is not what brand of oil to use, but more importantly, just change it regularly every ~3000 - 4000 miles. I had to change out a valve cover and plugs at 110k miles and when I looked inside, my engine is super clean, no sludge. I only use regular non synthetic oil including no name Walmart brand.
Whenever I change my oil filter I always get old oil all over the frame. Any tips/suggestions to avoid that? TIA
It's normal to get oil on the frame. Just drain all the oil out of the drain plug first, then remove the filter so not much oil will pour out. Then wipe it down with some paper towel.
+dial2fast I'm a mathematician, not a mechanic. Changing the oil is just about the limits of my skill. A protective panel was dangling low to the ground when I climbed under the car today. I removed it and that gave me much better access to the oil filter. I think I'll leave it off. Thanks for the video and the reply.
