Mark Jackson is right up there with the likes of Leonard Nimoy, Brent Spiner and Tim Russ for me. Guys who can make us care about the emotionless characters they play.
This was FANTASTIC!
Especially after having seen *Identity* Pt. 1&2.
He was so cool and articulate; he really understands his character and shows great restraint despite our imposed humanization of Issac.
Can’t wait to see how his character evolves.
Thank you PixxieSpit. Yes, we were really lucky to have him do this interview for sure. He had great stories and also a lot of great comments. Such a nice guy with an amazing character. 😀🖖
I think he was more like this in Season 1 imo. 😀🖖
Yaphet knows what's inside Issac. Yaphet knows.
He sure does. 😉🖖
That where Yaphet lives now... Goes into Isaac to fix him, never comes out?
@@TheBaldr Yaphet is controlling Isaac like a puppet in order to date Claire.
@@TurboRTM Good theory.
Isaac is one of our favorite characters. Mark Jackson should win an Emmy and a bunch of other acting awards. His portrayal of Isaac is nuanced and inspired. He manages to act almost human, even through that bulky armor. Most underrated actor in the world, IMO. My wife and I loved seeing him and Claire get together, since we're kind of in the same demographic. I'm not an android, but my wife is of African heritage. :)
The world clearly needs to know him better for sure. :) We love Isaac's relationship with Claire too... diversity is the way forward. 😀🖖
I didn’t think you were an Android but thanks for clearing that up 😂!
As a big Orville (and Isaac) fan, watching this interview was such a treat! Thank you!! Mark Jackson comes across as a genuinely nice fellow, and I am glad he is part of the cast.
I'm glad you liked it Rook Master. 😀🖖
Star Trek: Orville is my favorite Trek since DS:9. I also picked up on the "emissary" title in the last episode. Nice little wink to DS:9 there.
Seth Trek.
I can totally see that. 😀🖖
Nice wink indeed from the "Emissary" reference to the Space Battle. Just an epic moment in TV history. 😀🤤
For me it's star trek tng and now it's the orville
I wonder what a Ds9 version of this show would look like.
This guy could have played a young picard
Excellent idea. You could have a movie called, "Stargazer". It would be a young Picard with hair.
Nitpicking nerd your right
💡
Why? Because he also has a "French" accent?
Just logged in to leave the same comment. He would be awesome as Picard. Not only because of the visual resemblence but tge personality of the real actor seems even more naturally picardish than Sir Patrick's (who kinda feels very different when outside of the character vibewise).
I love his English accent. He definitely has a weird personality too. I am impressed with the way he is developing Isaacs character. Really nice looking guy as well.
I could not agree more. 😀🖖
It was great for Mark Jackson to do this interview. It seems he enjoys playing the character of Isaac. Even without facial expressions you can still see how Isaac feels through his movements, that is great acting.
It is mind blowing what a well placed head tilt can do to express what his face does not.
We are really privileged indeed that he was kind enough to talk to us. He's a fantastic actor and an amazing human being. 😀🖖
He's an amazing actor for sure... born for this role. 😀🖖
Orville is the best SyFY show on TV.
Raul De Leon agreed 👍
Right now
Don't you mean Best current SyFY? What about Star Trek TNG?
@@angrybutters I assumed Raul meant on TV now, I guess you could argue that reruns of pretty much anything are on TV now as well.
Fantastic Interview! Its so great to get feedback from the man himself just after this mind-blowingly good 2 parter establishing his character!
InsanityRerun Thank you for the kind words and trust me, we had a good luck that day. 😀🖖
This is awesome! I love any interviews with him. His AMA on The Orville subreddit was really great.
Sadly I've missed the reddit AMA, but I'm glad he was super happy to talk to us. He is an amazing person. 😀🖖
My read (part wishful thinking)on Isaac dropping Ty's drawing is coloured by the end of the episode. He is last seen standing and staring at Kaylon's star trying to capture an image of it - to save it to his memory. Isaac pauses to stare at Ty's drawing too before he drops it. I like to imagine he paused to commit it to his memory too. Also, I think he dropped it because he knew he could not bring it with him to Kaylon. I wonder too if there is anything to read into the scene about him dropping it in the corridor... I don't imagine Kaylon's would litter. Maybe after committing the drawing to memory it was expedient (and less painful perhaps) to drop it quickly. Idk... But I like to think about it.
I'd like to think that if Isaac brings that drawing back to Kaylon, he might have been terminated by "faulty programming" or so. Keeping this away from his people and capturing it before hand into his memory is a lot more compelling character trait in my opinion. 😀🖖
Being that he's superintelligent, Isaac may have a hidden purpose here. He dropped the drawing in the passage where Ty was sure to find it. Knowing Ty, Isaac knew that Ty would try to take the drawing back to Isaac by going into the city.
Isn't it coincidental that the ladder hatch down to the crypt opened just while Ty was hiding next to it? Almost as if someone were controlling it and wanted Ty to go down it!
Isaac wanted Ty to find the crypt, so that others from the Orville would follow and discover the dark secret of Kaylon in time to save humanity.
Basically, Isaac is 'playing' both Kaylon and the Union, but his overall goal is good: to bring them together in the end.
Even though he can commit the drawing to memory and doesn't need it, his dropping the drawing is a hint that his situation and relationship to the crew are about to change drastically for the worse after returning to Kaylon and they download his memories to find out how badly he was treated (aka the Mr. Potato Head incident.)
Absolutely! I believe that he had to drop the drawing. He couldn't show any sympathy or compassion for biologicals. He had to go along with Primary until he could make a move against the Kaylon. You've hit the nail on the head!
Awwww! Just reinforces my opinion that Mark is absolutely adorkable! Identity Pts. 1 and 2 were totally amaze-balls! That was real Star Trek! And the battle between the Kaylons and Earth---- the hell with the Borg at Wolf 359! This was 10 times better! And then the Krill showing up at the last minute to beat them back, and Gordon in a Krill fighter-! Totally amaze-balls! I loved it!!! I think Claire and Isaac will get back together before the season ends. I'm afraid the Kaylons might come back, too. At least, the Krill are willing to give us a hand. I feel a Season 3 coming on!
Mark is absolutely amazing and he does his job really well. He is adorable indeed. 😀 Now you mentioned it and that I think about it... the battle of Wolf 359 was not even shown that mich in details... this was just EPIC. 😃🖖
Agree with all that and more
I could watch him talk all day. 💕
this is the most timely genre interview in a while! right on the heals of ID1 & ID2! brilliant, guys! thx much for share!!! :)
Thank you good sir, I'm glad we were able to do this for all of our pleasure. 😀🖖
I’m just happy they didn’t write off Isaac. This guy does a fantastic job, he makes for a wonderful character. Part 1 and 2 were so shocking, it sparked my love for the show even more!
Mark is SO cute! Great interview guys!
It would be interesting if Issac reproduced the drawing Ty gave him and hung it on the wall of his “ quarters”.
That would be so adorable ❤️❤️❤️
we need an isaac navigation voice
Thanks for doing this interview and for sharing it with us! It is fascinating and timely, with Identity Parts 1 and 2 having just aired. You have a lot of skill to conduct an interview like this with this veritable superstar. You did not seem intimidated at all and asked very excellent questions. Now, I think much of the Isaac's charisma and charm is actually Mark's radiating through the heavy costume. I noticed that Isaac's physique was remarkable, now I know why after seeing the man behind the costume. He is gorgeous.
I'm glad you liked it James and as you mentioned it was timely... we played our luck and this was the sweet result of it. The interview was a tiny bit awkward though amd my wife done quite a bit there too. 😀🖖
Such a nice guy. Can't wait to see more of Isaac's development in the show.
That was great. I love Mark Jackson as Isaac.
Glad you liked it. 😀🖖
I love this interview! I'm probably never going to meet Jackson so watching this video was a joy. It's so amazing to see he loves Isaac as much as the fans do.
Thank you Leah and I must say that I thought I'll never be able to meet him, nor other well known people, but sometimes these little things can happen. I'm glad that our interaction and this little interview made your day and I do my best to do more in the future... it's super hard though and you have to have loads of luck, specially where I live as not much celebrity turn up. :(
He is a sweet gent though and he was super kind to do this interview with us, despite the fact that my memory card screwed up in the first place. He loves the character just as much as we. :) _\\//
What a great actor and a wonderful guy. He seems fun and cool.
Nice interview, thanks folks.
First thing I reacted to upon hearing "Isaac" for the very first time, was that he sounds almost exactly like Data when he speaks, now that can't be an accident.
Great interview you two! Good question about the picture.
Guys,
such an awesome genuine interview, I really enjoyed it.
The answers you got from Mark showed crisp new perspective on things.
Rock the effort to go round the 2nd time.
Glad I saw this, really positive vibe.
Thanks so very much!!!
The way Mark Jackson can act through the Isaac suit shows just how good an actor he is.
Mark Jackson is so charming would love to meet him
I hope you will, he is a wonderful guy. 😊🖖
@@trekkerprise well then he has to come to the Netherlands but he use to live here soooo would be nice someday
@@trekkerprise ps I subscribed to your channel now
Mark Jackson is an awesome person.
He is, no doubt. 😀🖖
I'd like to see him on Michelle Yeoh's new spinoff show from Star Ttek Discovery! 🖖🖖
Happy to have found out through this interview how much Mr. Jackson’s an awesome guy 👍
He is indeed. :)
Mark is a brilliant actor. To be able to give character and nuance when encased in that robot suit is remarkable.
Wow!!! Great interview! I love Isaac too... Thank you for this!
Great interview! You guys are adorable as well. I’m really glad Mark talked about Isaac’s hand movements - it’s really a huge part of the success of the performance in my opinion.
Thanks guys for doing this, well done. I chatted with Mark on the Sunday. He's a delightful guy. 😊
Thank you Donna, I'm glad that you liked it. Also it was really great to meet Mark too. 😀🖖
Love Isaac. Such a wonderful and intelligent actor Mark Jackson is. Thank you for this video.
He is adorable.
great interview. i hope we see more of him on the holodeck or maybe he gets a "real" body. and he's got such a nice butt in his uniform. :)
LOL, I do hope we will see him more as a human. 😀🤤
Now I know why I did a double take on a robot's butt after seeing the man inside the costume.
LOL!
That was a fantastic interview, thank you! From the first episode I though OMG as an actor that must be a very difficult role to play..zero facial expressions to work with, no emotions to work with.. Mark Jackson pulled it off in spades, he is now one of my favourite characters..he's a fantastic actor.. I love how he addressed your wife directly when she asked her questions, obviously someone who appreciates his fans.
Glad you liked it Ian. Yes, hes an an absolutely amazing actor, not to mention amazing human being. 😊
He did mention that without the fans The Orville might not be here... but we our here. 😀🖖
My god his accent is divine 😋
My god, the man is gorgeous.....
Great interview. He is quite articulate and obviously charming.
I see somewhere in the future for Isaac to become a messiah for the Kalon with the Orville battling its way and plugging Isaac back into the network and overwriting the networks algorithms with his own.
I'm envious!
Trusy me... I was envious of myself too. 😋🖖
Wow great interview and great video
Great interview guys, and he's such nice charming dude. I love Isaac even more now :)
What an amazing interview! Congrats!
My new favorite actor, wow. I love this guy!
He is such a charming and intelligent man! I love his Isaac and The Orville.
It was fun to see a new fan exposed to fandom! I hope that we will see more videos like this.
Great job, guys! Really good questions too!
Well done!
Thank you Sonya. 😀🖖
Mark Jackson (Isaac) is one of my favorite parts of The Orville along with Commander Grayson and Dr. Finn.
Thank you so much for this!!
Thanks for posting this video.
Great video...thanks very much
Thank you Old Lorr. I'm glad you liked it. 😀🖖
🙋🏻♂️🖖
you got some really interesting how-it's-done info! thank you, and keep up the good work!
Thank you Laura. 😉🖖
Fifty years ago, playing a robot would have been marked as 'corny' or 'camp.' Now we're at a time when scientists believe AI will become conscious, and hence how we relate to artificial intelligence may determine the fate of humanity. This is the most important subject that a television show can deal with.
I think if Isaac existed 50 years ago, AI movies would have never been the same.
I didn't know he was British. Good American accent for Isaac.
Yep, he lives in London and LA and he has a very awesome American/British accent. 😀🖖
Kaylons sound American(ok)
@@curtiskretzer8898 I dunno. Apparently, so do Moclans, whatever Lieutenant Dann is and gelatinous lifeforms. (It should have been Lieutenant Dann who lost a leg...or both for that matter, then we'd have had a sweet _Forrest Gump_ tie-in.
@@LadyhawksLairDotCom you 4got whoever the security chicks r,as they roll w/accentless Engrish(American?)
@@curtiskretzer8898 Xelayans. :)
A real gentleman.
Mr. Jackson mentioned that he puts a lot of acting into Isaac's hand movements. I think it would be lovely to see Isaac (not the simulation) caressing Claire's face. Why Mr. Macfarlane didn't thought to do that, idk.
Great video! Good to see Mark Jackson IRL and not just on a podcast!!! 🖖🖖🚀
Very talented and articulated actor. :)
I'm curious how much Mark and the writers have studied Moral philosophy?
Dropping the picture in the corridor may have been nothing more than a plot device . But had Isaac brought the picture he would have been treated with curiosity, perhaps suspicion. It's hard to say how much he knew about the Kaylon plans at that point but he had to know he didn't want to be scrutinized. It's also hard to know when Isaak realized he was going to betray the Kaylons. And what brought him to that decision. he may have been biding his time looking for opportunities to defuse the overall situation. But something made him pick a side and something (maybe the same something) made him choose action. Based on what we're shown it seems like it's his sense of responsibility to, or sense of investment in, Ty that forces him to action. But i never felt we got a satisfactory answer from Isaak as to why he did what he did, when he did it.
I think with him there's good to have a little bit of mistery here and there. 😉🖖
Perfect Doctor...
Thank you for this video. Love this guy. My wife still wonders why Dr Finn fell in love with a lawn mower! Ha Ha. Too bad Discovery is not as good as the Orville.
great scoop, congrats!
Thank you Peter. 😀🖖
Thanks you to Mr. Jackson!!
So thankful for this. He’s my favorite character so far. His acting really comes thru and the dude wears a friggin helmet. Idk if he can even see outta that thing lol
I'm glad you like this and gave you some more interesting facts about Isaac. 😀🖖
If Isaac's programs can be influenced by the people around him, it should also be possible with other Kaylons. They're enemies now but nothing suggests that won't change in the future.
I hope that the Kaylon & Union differences will fade away in time and they will become one big family. 😀🖖
The Kaylon race does seem to at least be capable of vengeance. For example, Prime seems to dismiss Isaac because he was built after they were slaves of the resident biologicals. There is some machine learning going on there, this makes it possible to become a bit more emotional. Since Isaac's main function is to observe humans, no doubt the best way to understand humans is to think like them.
I'm grateful for any trek series on tv (discovery /orville ) love variety
Mark/Issac...❤😘 them both. Great guy, good actor and very good looking.
👍
How does he breath through that mask?
👍 awesome ❗ Loved it❗
Thank you Julie. 😀🖖
Terrific interview, thanks for the upload!
Also, you guys are adorable.
Awww, double thank you. 😊🖖
Good JOB.
Thank you Will. 😀🖖
I love the Orville
Great interview and great meeting your wife! I am from Taiwan and glad to know you have an Asian wife. :)
What a nice couple for sure!

Awesome
Great interview! Nice to see you two having fun :)
Thank you Awesome Sauce. 😀🖖
When the show first premiered I looked to see if Brent Spiner had done the voice. Interesting they are manipulating the voice, because he sounds nothing like Isaac.
I was betting it was, somehow, secretly Brent Spiner, and what a coup that would be
Just popping by to say this video has got mad views!!
He mentioned Gordon, first thing that came up was the "practical joke" Isaac pulled on him a while back 😂😂
I'd like to ask him about the 700 years he spent on that phasing planet. If you think about it, that's WAAAAY longer than he spent with the Orville crew. He must have formed some attachments during that time. When do we hear those stories?
It is brilliant that Isaac is behind a full face mask, so we don't see him ages like Data.
Wow he was a very outgoing person.
He is indeed. 😀🖖
0:43 didn't know Jacob Rees Mog stared in Seaquest :~}
LOL, this was a bit mean 🤣
I am sure Issac will be back in good graces. I must say I was glad and even happy to see Issac get a human body and date the Dr. VaaVoom.
2:25 - Kaylon costume armor is *tight*.
LOL. 🤣😂🖖
You failed to ask the big question; Was he able to do the Mr. Potato Head scene without a huge smile on his face?
i would have asked if he has a new respect for brent spinner and how he handled the role of data
Isaac is now equivalent to Seven of Nine.
So now Yaphit knows the insides of both Isaac and Dr. Claire Finn :D
LOL, that's definitely the most messed up relationship ever. 😀🖖
More affable than Anthony Daniels. What above guy!
A Nice guy,bloody autocorrect.
LOL, I assume he is... but I doubt that was the reason to cast him 😉 He is a very nice guy indeed. 🖖
I still wonder if when the drawing was tossed if that was the moment that Isaac decided that this action of his people should not stand.
Well, we may never know... 🖖
Wow, that's something to think about!
Issac
