    Mark Jackson is right up there with the likes of Leonard Nimoy, Brent Spiner and Tim Russ for me. Guys who can make us care about the emotionless characters they play.

    This was FANTASTIC!
    Especially after having seen *Identity* Pt. 1&2.

    Isaac is one of our favorite characters. Mark Jackson should win an Emmy and a bunch of other acting awards. His portrayal of Isaac is nuanced and inspired. He manages to act almost human, even through that bulky armor. Most underrated actor in the world, IMO. My wife and I loved seeing him and Claire get together, since we're kind of in the same demographic. I'm not an android, but my wife is of African heritage. :)

    My read (part wishful thinking)on Isaac dropping Ty's drawing is coloured by the end of the episode. He is last seen standing and staring at Kaylon's star trying to capture an image of it - to save it to his memory. Isaac pauses to stare at Ty's drawing too before he drops it. I like to imagine he paused to commit it to his memory too. Also, I think he dropped it because he knew he could not bring it with him to Kaylon. I wonder too if there is anything to read into the scene about him dropping it in the corridor... I don't imagine Kaylon's would litter. Maybe after committing the drawing to memory it was expedient (and less painful perhaps) to drop it quickly. Idk... But I like to think about it.

    • @trekkerprise
      @trekkerprise  5 лет назад +7

      I'd like to think that if Isaac brings that drawing back to Kaylon, he might have been terminated by "faulty programming" or so. Keeping this away from his people and capturing it before hand into his memory is a lot more compelling character trait in my opinion. 😀🖖

    • @joeschembrie9450
      @joeschembrie9450 5 лет назад +3

      Being that he's superintelligent, Isaac may have a hidden purpose here. He dropped the drawing in the passage where Ty was sure to find it. Knowing Ty, Isaac knew that Ty would try to take the drawing back to Isaac by going into the city.
      Isn't it coincidental that the ladder hatch down to the crypt opened just while Ty was hiding next to it? Almost as if someone were controlling it and wanted Ty to go down it!
      Isaac wanted Ty to find the crypt, so that others from the Orville would follow and discover the dark secret of Kaylon in time to save humanity.
      Basically, Isaac is 'playing' both Kaylon and the Union, but his overall goal is good: to bring them together in the end.

    • @jamesweh209
      @jamesweh209 5 лет назад +1

      Even though he can commit the drawing to memory and doesn't need it, his dropping the drawing is a hint that his situation and relationship to the crew are about to change drastically for the worse after returning to Kaylon and they download his memories to find out how badly he was treated (aka the Mr. Potato Head incident.)

    • @mingram15
      @mingram15 5 лет назад +2

      Absolutely! I believe that he had to drop the drawing. He couldn't show any sympathy or compassion for biologicals. He had to go along with Primary until he could make a move against the Kaylon. You've hit the nail on the head!

    Awwww! Just reinforces my opinion that Mark is absolutely adorkable! Identity Pts. 1 and 2 were totally amaze-balls! That was real Star Trek! And the battle between the Kaylons and Earth---- the hell with the Borg at Wolf 359! This was 10 times better! And then the Krill showing up at the last minute to beat them back, and Gordon in a Krill fighter-! Totally amaze-balls! I loved it!!! I think Claire and Isaac will get back together before the season ends. I'm afraid the Kaylons might come back, too. At least, the Krill are willing to give us a hand. I feel a Season 3 coming on!

    I'm curious how much Mark and the writers have studied Moral philosophy?
    Dropping the picture in the corridor may have been nothing more than a plot device . But had Isaac brought the picture he would have been treated with curiosity, perhaps suspicion. It's hard to say how much he knew about the Kaylon plans at that point but he had to know he didn't want to be scrutinized. It's also hard to know when Isaak realized he was going to betray the Kaylons. And what brought him to that decision. he may have been biding his time looking for opportunities to defuse the overall situation. But something made him pick a side and something (maybe the same something) made him choose action. Based on what we're shown it seems like it's his sense of responsibility to, or sense of investment in, Ty that forces him to action. But i never felt we got a satisfactory answer from Isaak as to why he did what he did, when he did it.

  • @ixiahj
    @ixiahj 5 лет назад +3

    If Isaac's programs can be influenced by the people around him, it should also be possible with other Kaylons. They're enemies now but nothing suggests that won't change in the future.

    • @trekkerprise
      @trekkerprise  5 лет назад

      I hope that the Kaylon & Union differences will fade away in time and they will become one big family. 😀🖖

    • @Pyrolonn
      @Pyrolonn 5 лет назад +1

      The Kaylon race does seem to at least be capable of vengeance. For example, Prime seems to dismiss Isaac because he was built after they were slaves of the resident biologicals. There is some machine learning going on there, this makes it possible to become a bit more emotional. Since Isaac's main function is to observe humans, no doubt the best way to understand humans is to think like them.

    When the show first premiered I looked to see if Brent Spiner had done the voice. Interesting they are manipulating the voice, because he sounds nothing like Isaac.

    I'd like to ask him about the 700 years he spent on that phasing planet. If you think about it, that's WAAAAY longer than he spent with the Orville crew. He must have formed some attachments during that time. When do we hear those stories?
