- No electronics in this video. Just good old fashioned woodwork.
showing how to make the template and wooden side panels for the Roland System-8 synthesizer.
i used Ronseal interior varnish Satin Walnut.
whole project saves you about £50uk pounds. Наука
Your the first people to actually make a conservatory useful. As a workshop! Most of them sit idle. Well done ;-)
Excellent - but yeah, start a new trend with plastic side panels for vintage gear! :-D
Excellent! I enjoyed watching your video! Take care, Sam.
Very nice Markus!
Can you give a before and after of the sound please?
Sorry about that. this vid has no music as I did it all in one day. normally i take a few days and try to do some music for it.
markusfuller
I was jesting! referring to your comment about the sound improving after the panels are mounted 😁
Sorry just my silly sense of humour.
Quality panels by the way.
Ha, Ha! Tone wood on a synth. Very nice. Thanks for the video, Markus.
You made this video fun to watch, I also caught the Moog lathe. I bet that was expensive!!! HAHAHA!
Markus, I followed your design and your direction, and my panels came out beautifully. I just have to stain them. The biggest help was your comment about the center of gravity. It helped me place that bottom indent in just the right place. Thanks for this video!
Nice wood work, Markus :D
Cheers
Daniel Fletcher of D.S. (a Swedish synthrock / synthpop group)
Good job Markus ! I like your version 👌
Thank You
I am so happy I subscribed to you Sir. Markus!
Thank You
Looks great!
Thanks Richard Dean Anderson..! :)
Perfect just perfect, now everything I have is going to have wood paneling! My Sk-1 is gonna be Sweeeeet!
I am wondering what needs wood ends next. I need to make a eurorack case first I think.
Enjoyed this video quite a bit. Also, I was impressed to see that you own a Moog lathe. Amazing!
just the moog sticker. I put it there to see if anyone would notice :-)
Interesting tips, good skill, British humour, & lot of passion for those gears : that's Markus Fuller :)
Thank you
Well done!
"Hopefully without cutting my fingers off" followed by fastforward at 2:45 scared me for second haha
Very nice.funny vid.missus getting me (all being well)a system 8 for crimbo.im going to try and do your style of cheeks.well done mate.
Great result. You could even make it easier ... do not measure or anything and mess around with angles. After you have your piece of paper, just put it on the wood and draw a line around on the wood. Of cause you can invest quite a bit of money by taking some real wood, that does live from its own colour (like cherry or something you like).
All that said, I like your design much better then the orignal one, cause it gives it a more complete look with the handles in there
Very nice ends, The system 8 will definately sound much better with the resonant effects of the wood. The more you pay for the wood, the better it will sound. As for the Moog you could always try Fablon- they do a large range of colours and textures but if you choose a wood grain effect fablon then of course you will only get a virtual analog type sound. One more thing, make sure you buy genuine fablon ! 😂
That can't be a real Moog lathe, way too few knobs!
glad you found that easter egg :-)
Look forward to your video on plastic sides for the modular beast! Hahaha
Brilliant. I’d like help with doing my Korg Triton extreme 88 sides
I've always preferred my wood sides chunky ;-). Great work Markus that System-8 looks much better with those. But I would have liked to see how you've stained them and with what, and how long you've had to wait for it to dry ? Thanks for sharing. I might just do that to my Oberheim Matrix-6.
Hi Alain. I used Ronseal interior varnish Satin Walnut - it only takes a couple of hours drying before you can start polishing with beeswax.
I always loved how the Brits say Ah Lum minum.
nice
What kind of black stain or paint can i use for my korg prologue wooden end cheeks?
im sorry if iit's tacky for me to ask here , but speaking of wood sides ... if youve ever messed around with a roland tr 77 would you maybe be able to show how i could mod mine for a simple tempo trigger in, like from a 707"?
Great job, they look awesome. However, I'm curious... I noted your measurements and they don't seem to add up. The measurement across the top is more like 332 than 302. I recreated your drawing in CAD by using the note dimensions and angles. When I use 302 as the top dimension the bottom edge comes out at 255 not 286 ??? I recreated it starting at the bottom with 286 and the final top edge came out as 332.
Nicely done, think your version is definitely better looking. And the stain made a hell of a difference. But it really is that easy, especially if you got the right tools.
Seriously jealous of that bullshit button, haha 😆
Great vid. What wood did you use and where did you get it from? Wood merchants seem to only sell in large quantities...😕
Markusfuller meets Lazy Game Reviews! "Aww woodgrain"
hello,
can i change my side panels of my Korg Kronos61, 2012? can you show me the way for the change the plastic side panels?
Your design looks better.
Thank you
I just scan plastic sidepanel (wirh scanner). And draw over it in Autocad. Fast, precise, modern CNC ready.
Good job
Thank You
markusfuller your welcome. Grateful 😇🙏🏿
Do you think I could do something similar for my Dx7 iid? One side is cracked and fragile.
Can you do the same for a Korg Delta? My woodworking skills are zero..
Hi,
Very good job
Looking for the same for my Korg Wavestate, is it possible ?.
Many thanks
Does anyone have a diagram of the measurements needed? My Jupiter panels are missing so I can’t just trace
Can this be done for the JD-XA as well?
The ending was excellent! (Not that the rest of the video wasn't very good, too, of course.)
Thank You
But Markus, it has to now sound more ana-LOG :)
Ha very good :-)
He’s going against the grain
you wood make that joke
I have the Aluminium ones, to match my JP8, but each to their own.
I like the Aluminium ones also but cannot cut it with my bandsaw without buying a new blade.
Excellent job! Loving the bullshit detector too!😂😂
Is that pine? I like it but I think a less pronounced grain would be better. Still, very nice. I want to do this for my MC-909 along with a vinyl wrap. Give it kind of a Reason Rack inspired look. I always enjoy your videos, BTW. Cheers from the states!
Paul McKenzie Hi Paul. yes I think it was just pine, I just used whatever piece of spare wood i had in my garage. the roland ones that you can buy have a less pronounced grain and look much smoother but i made mine with whatever was available in the garage. many thanks.
@@markusfuller Hope I didn't come across as critical. Very nice work.
yeh your panels look better! did you do a semi gloss on the finish?
I used a satin wood stain and it dries with that shine.
You have a MatrixBrute?!? Did I miss a video?
I haven't made a video about the matrixbrute. It's just too precious for me to take apart.
I prefer your design
What sort of varnish did you use Markus?
Hi Gary. I used Ronseal interior varnish Satin Walnut - it only takes a couple of hours drying before you can start polishing with beeswax.
markusfuller lovely thank you, I'll have to try the beeswax. Keep up the good work, many thanks!
Should have stained the sides green to match the leds...........😀😀😀
Custom wood cheeks cost so much money because it's REAL WOOD.
Really cool. Too much work for me lol
Mmmmm... timber analogue resonance. Personally I would have gone for Mahogany... deeper richer tones. :P
sounds analogue plus... woodwinds and strings presets sound much better too, of course (BS alert 2)
Nice work. And for those that dont have the tools check out www.synthsandwood.co.uk as we have some system 8 in stock
Unfortunately the green led lights make it look uglier in contrast with the wood
stocchinet BULLSHIT
Yes it would be nice if roland could make the colour choice changeable in the menu using Red/Green/Blue LEDs.
Personally i think it looks best without any lights going on, i have a tr8 and it "suffers" from the same problem.
TRACE THE DAMN THING !!!!!
Nice bullshit detector
You don't believe in tone wood! lost my faith in you, unsubbed.
: )
