  • In this video I make a mixing board case for an Alice 828 mixing board for my friend Jason at The Crunch Recording Studio in Badersfield, Norfolk. In this one I use some sapele veneered particleboard and make the edge banding from solid sapele and I make a wrist rest using some foam and faux leather.

    Mirror clips might have been good for the wrist rest. It fits snug but allows for it to be removed for replacing the cover.

    Another good video, I appreciate the way you make use of materials. Its always nice to see remnants from previous projects get put to good use.

    wow, how timely, at first I thought this was a recommended video because i just spent the last few hours looking up fader boards and such, so this was very familiar looking!

    Love the custom made retro look of this. Could just imagine George Martin leaning over that mixing desk with his pipe saying to John Lennon ‘Maybe we should use a Sitar instead’ 😀

    Nice build. Your friend for sure is happy with it. That polyurethane glue looks very interesting. Something to keep in mind.

    Good call not chiseling the corners - that particle board would probably have exploded and made you very sad :^)
    The veneer really looked great with the wax on.

    Nice project, really enjoy watching your vids. Just a thought, when using screws that will be visible I find that dome head screws look a lot better, and no need for the washers :)

    Hi Keith. Why is it that the American woodworkers are always using timbers such as walnut, maple etc, which would be seriously expensive for us? Are these hardwoods cheaper in the U.S? If so, why?

    • @RagnBoneBrown
      @RagnBoneBrown  5 лет назад

      I think it's because they're native to the US, so yes they are cheaper there. We get some great woods here too though - beech, oak. Sapele is my favourite and most timber yards stock it.

    Did it add a lot of weight to the board?

    Next time- Try “tee nuts” to fasten wrist rest board securely. Easy peasy!

    • @RagnBoneBrown
      @RagnBoneBrown  5 лет назад

      wouldn't that mean the bolt head would be visible on top of the wrist rest though?

    That large black framing square you use, is that perfectly square? I have a really hard time finding a perfectly square framing square.

    • @RagnBoneBrown
      @RagnBoneBrown  5 лет назад +1

      It was, but it's been a while since I last checked it and it's been abused since new. My tolerance levels might be lower than most though, I never expect anything to be perfect but it's nice when it is

    Good stuff! Is particle board as heavy as mdf?

    • @RagnBoneBrown
      @RagnBoneBrown  5 лет назад

      It's lighter than MDF, less dense. Some of the really old particle board was denser than it is nowadays, it's tricky to find.
