The Sword, Spear and Bow heroes all assumed that their legendary weapons were running on video game logic where things should be relatively balanced. Naofumi on the other hand assumed his legendary weapon was running on light novel logic where the protagonist is stupid OP compared to everyone else. The results speak for themselves.

@@EldritchNamer From what I gather, Naofumi was the only one to unlock skills from feeding monster parta to his weapon. Ren leveled his up, Pedo upgraded his skyrim style, and Itsuki mearlly used the rarist varient of his. I don't think the 3 stooges said anything about unlocking skills by feeding monster parta to thier weapons. Then again, it's been awhile since i saw shield hero, so i may not remember it. Sorry in advance if this info turns out to be false/confusing.

@@LAM1895 actually I think you have it backwards. Saitama beat his first monster before he started training. While he became the strongest through hard work he was already stronger than most to begin with. His single minded relentless training is both the cause and result of him being strong.
Interestingly, for anyone familiar with Warframe and its weapon system, each of these three upgrade paths is utilized in that game. A weapon's mastery is increased through use, which provides points with which mods can be installed. Mods increase the power, stats, and abilities available to the weapon. Mods come in different rarities, and material components can be used to upgrade the mods, which also increases the mod point cost to equip them. When weapons are at maximum mastery, the mastery can be reset to halve the cost of a mod in a specific mod slot on the weapon, allowing more high rank mods to be equipped. The sad thing is, these guys were basically only doing one of these things each, meaning that they either had a ton of capacity with poor quality mods, a lot of rare but unranked mods, or a very small number of highly ranked mods without the capacity to use them well. I think anyone that's played Warframe understands just how crippling that lack of understanding would be.
Itsuki's methods in particular get kind of insane when combined with the others. For one, weapons with greater rarity gain better enhancements. Using ren's mastery points though, the rarity of a weapon could be increased. Furthermore, itsuki's item enchantment boosts are percentage based, meaning they would get significantly better if all the weapons functions are improved.

honestly this video really taught me alot about shield hero that i could barely keep up with what you're saying, and i love this types of videos where you get to explain and explore the lore, mechanics and history of an anime.
I am pretty sure he is mixing and matching the methods and heroes by accident. For Ren, the sword had nothing to do with rarity. That was all Itsuki, as he said later on. As Mastery goes up, the stats of the mastered weapon increases, hence at 100 mastery, the weapon can be used with additional stats (this has nothing to do with rarity). Resetting mastery to 0, by consuming said mastery instead of transferring (what he did with the weaker shields), increases the BASE stats of the said shield. Thus temporarily weakening the shield to power it up again at 100% mastery. Motoyasu is the one which could consume monster material for specified bonus, Related to the material used, for example, you can refine a specific shield with various materials from dragons to provide it with bonuses all related to dragons, making a specialized shield for dragons. The drawback is that there was a limitation of slots. His other method is very similar to Itsuki, in that using specific ores to reforge/plate their weapon making a bonus +1, +2, etc to the name. Itsuki as said is the one concerned with rarity, by reforging using specified ore, the rarity increases. Both Motoyasu and Itsuki's reforging methods have a chance to fail, the higher the progress it is, the more difficult it is to succeed. Both this and Motoyasu's method are very consuming of resources, as multiple retries are necessary to successfully reforge/plate one weapon and the stronger the weapon, the more rare and valuable the consumed ore/ metal has to be. All of these methods increases stats which are provided by the shield, which is the overall goal. Also what Motoyasu said was not stats, but proficiency. He specified, that by killing a specific monster over and over again, he can increase the proficiency in fighting that specific type of monster which lines up with one of the methods he mentions: by using the drops as materials, he could give his weapons a bonus such as underwater combat +20%. In contrast to Ren's Mastery, which increases the mastery percentage based of weapon usage, which is why Naofumi's viper chimera shield was 100% as his most used most powerful shield (excluding the curse series)
It’s so odd to see that the “system” basically begs for the four heroes to help one another, trust one another, rely and cooperate. And yet.. yeah.. (SPOILER ALERT) OFC later on they all be way more friendly with one another, but till then- it’s just a pain to even think about the three stooges.
It makes sense as the Heroes are supposed to work together. When you have a "Hero" Party they are expected to work together to a goal which is further supported by the fact that Queen Birdy was ready to just kill them all for not working together.
When Naofumi teaches them his methods I can already imagine that they would never believe Naofumi because his methods don't seem like they would lead to his overpowered shield. Except why would they anyways? Naofumi's rage and hatred towards them is something they would never understand because they've only ever held casual hate and not hatred born from utter despair. It's understandable that they wouldn't believe him. Although Ren is always the "I'll maybe try to trust him a little" so I guess Ren might try his method. As for the others heroes, I don't believe that they will believe him until he shows them that all of their methods actually work.
The thing is Ren is a somewhat hero because at least he tries to take responsibility but the other 2 not so much. But wjen ren get the curse series then insay he becomimg a hero
His only method was gaining skills and shields. Bases on the material he places in the the shield. He had an unlock system the others likely did not know about.
@@129das actually, no. Naofumi does have his own methods but they are way less game-y than the others. First is Trust: by trusting in their companions and those companions trusting the hero, both parties gain a boost in power. Second is Sharing: the effectiveness of Power up methods is increased if the heroes learned them from each other. Third is Energy boost: A hero with this method can apply their life force to increase the effectiveness of skills or crafted items. We still don't know Naofumi's fourth method, sadly.
The other heroes don't hate Naofumi, hate is an incredibly powerful emotion, it worms in deep within your gut and burns like the dying embers of a fire that refuse to go out. They are frustrated by his success despite their preconceptions of his legendary weapon and his personal character, they are also becoming frustrated for being so easily fooled by Myne, especially Motayatsu who does genuinely want to be a good person deep down. Naofumi's hate is also generalised towards the world and how it works, less towards the 'stupid' heroes he was summoned with. This is why he's got a soft heart for the demihumans who've been trampled all over and just want to live a decent quiet life.
The characters failed to understand their weapons were MAGIC and worked exactly like they thought it should. They were capable of more but their brains created the limits, not the weapons themselves.

Y'know how after the other three heroes stopped trying to kill him and actually told him about the videogame aspects of the weapons, Naofumi realized he'd been doing everything in really inefficient ways? Like crafting stuff by hand instead of with his shield? Was there any benefit to doing stuff the hard way like that or was it purely just a big waste of time and effort for him? By walking everywhere instead of fast travelling he met more people and monsters and stuff, so that's an upside of doing *that* the hard way. Did he create higher quality items by making them by hand?
That’s a good question, I have a few guesses for you: 1. He could be developing actual skill in crafting which can surpass that of his shields quick craft. (He can do a better job, but it takes longer.) 2. The shield can only craft items of an equal quality to its users skills. (So the more he crafts the better his quick craft becomes.) 3. Improving his crafting skill may have unlocked some shield abilities. (I’m thinking potion enhance but I’m not sure.) Honestly none of these could be correct, but they are my best guesses.

Since he now has more background knowledge of the process he can probably craft better and more veried number of things than the other heroes. Like I know with enchantments and stuff he's able to read and cast his own spells and the other heroes can only do the spells that were given to them. There is probably a similar limit that the weapon can only craft what a person knows.
I heard that Ren is the weakest of the 4 heroes because his unique refinement method doesn't boost his stats. Due to the very slow skill release time of the Sword, he's also put off stacking stat bonuses from mastering weaker weapons.

Do you perhaps know the chapter that he is shown as the weakest or that has addition information regarding the mechanics of his sword?

That boomer king didn't seem to know all that much about the legendary weapons he knew more than most but he wasn't exactly an expert I think they were just going by the legends and given the way the system works if they just believe that they can level together they may be able too I don't know about you but that always seemed like another way to screw over naofumi by keeping his level low since he couldn't really fight himself and conveniently didn't have a party
@@ShadowFox10587O well, the first episode did have a help thing that popped up saying that the weapons have adverse effects being near each other. one of these things is to prevent the heroes from getting stronger. And more so, there's more weapons than just what the 4 heroes have, which are almost as strong, but with less restrictions. The Trash king did have one of those before... But as for his hatred for Naofumi, it started from him hating the previous shield hero. problem is, if one hero dies, the waves instantly become harder. more so if naofumi would have died given he's now the only one capable of fighting the waves... the other 3 couldn't even take out much on the 2nd wave they fought in... honestly, it's a ton of stubbornness and stupidity that's holding a lot of characters back... even naofumi in some cases although he does get better about it later on.

This series is so amazing when you really think about it, in the beginning were told that the heros progression will be reduced if they level up together. This can be seen as a test for the heros to trust eachother since for most of their adventures they have been apart from one another. I think that who ever originally summoned these heros their end goal was to test each sets of heros to see if they had the foresight and enlightenment to change perspectives in order to better combat the waves and save the people of this particular world... Rant finished lol.
He noticed these mechanics pretty late though, which means the source of his strength was, ironically, the anger towards the unreasonable situations he found himself in that gave him the will to survive no matter what and have his revenge. He already had an inquisitive and open mind, but in the beginning he was naive like the other 3. He was humbled by all the crap he went through and was made to be willing to do the grunt work to survive because this wasn’t a game. So even though he had an incomplete system like the others (though maybe it was a little stronger because he wasn’t locked into is delusions like the other heroes) he grinded as much as he could and even learned all sorts of things by himself which complemented his abilities. In my opinion this was just the icing on the cake, he was already stronger than all of them combined but he “stole” their method of getting stronger, hammering the last nail in the coffin of their usefulness and beginning their downfall to their sin series.
I thought it was honestly really cool how Naofumi was able to use all three of the methods that the other heroes mentioned just by believing that what they said was true.
Also, another thing to mention is their party members. Naofumi’s party members had a mix of ranged fighters, melee fighters, defenders and supporters. From what I saw in Motoyasu’s party is that his are all girls that could only attack. Purely power. Nothing to fill in the niches that he lacks such as healers or supporters.

Hold on, with the mastery for Ren, I thought that it works 100% of the time, the only time that there was a risk of it failing is with Naofumi and that's because he believed that there was a risk and so the risk was there like the other strengthening method. Otherwise, it would work 100% of the time, or is this only for the WN and it's different to LN. Anyway, I have to thank you for explaining the strengthening methods, as I'm doing a fanfic of this story and whilst doing my own strengthening methods for Naofumi, knowing how it work helped me a lot. So once again, thank you for doing this video, your best yet.
This can probably explain the types of games each of the four heroes like to play: Ren: Games like Skyrim (leveling up your skills and making them legendary to reset the level to increase the limit.) Motoyashu: Demonsouls/Darksouls or more accurately Dark Cloud (the main strength was upgrading your weapons to increase it's stats or give it special effects that benefitted from your own stats.) Itsuki: Borderlands or Diablo (killing mobs and collecting weapons and potentially gems that augments them.) Naofumi: Survival games or games like Monster Hunter. (Naofumi's major strength was crafting and the items he had. His accessories can potentially make a normal soldier pose a serious threat to enemies and his items are not only potent but have an extra effect thanks to his shield.)
Naofumi also unlocks all kinds of shield forms by putting any possible materials or items in it an unlocking their equip bonuses by equipping them for long enough. In a way, his lack of knowledge about increasing the quality of his weapon forms made him focus on quantity and increase his base stats. It came in handy once he learned that both Ren and Motoyasu had mastery methods and that was given direction by Itsuki's rarity method to which shield forms to focus on. While Ren and Motoyasu both rely on mastering their weapon forms, none of them thought about going to sleep while equipping their weapon forms.
Tbh I think the idea that they could only use the weapons they were given and nothing else was pretty cool, as well as how they get different versions. Naofumi using his shield upgrades for collecting herbs and creating medicine was also pretty interesting.
I didn't really understand their explanations in the anime, but I'd long noticed the other heroes were limited in their growth by their insistence on seeing the world around them through the prism of the games that brought them there, but more than I reckoned that the games they played adapted the reality of Melromarc to fit their respective platforms, and so none of them would have the whole picture. Essentially the blind men and the elephant. After all, you can't always apply the same strategy in a VR game that you would in a mobile game. I'd figured the weapons simply tailored their interface the expectations of their owners, and Naofumi's inexperience meant that he was not as limited, and could easily adapt his strategies to reality without the hindrance of a gamer's pretense. Although on the flipside it also meant that he didn't know what to believe in, and so his weapon couldn't fully adapt to his needs.
I was reading the power up methods of the vassal weapons and damn, the whip is broken. No wonder is such a key aspect in the light novel. Spoiler: Basically, it allows the user to lower his or anyone else's level by 1 and keep the Stat bonus. So you can can be level 1 with level 900 stats and the same exp requirements to level up. The Legendary weapons have access to the vassal power ups too, so they can use it.
Yeah, its the best way to bypass the Level 100 limiter. I think S'yne sister vassal weapon have it in which it does explain on why she can overpower naofumi even though they dont have a full pledge dragon emperor to bypass their levels
If Naofumi wanted to test inventing his own progression system to add to it, given how his party is growing, he probably wants some sort of ally-links system where his shields gain new powers from emotional connections to his party members.
Novels #15 & 16 elaborate that each of the Seven Star Heroes have additional power-up methods that are applicable to the Four Legendary Weapons. Methods from other worlds don't seem to work, per se, at least not for now.
Thanks for the clarity on this system! Considering how its setup to be so flexible, it makes me think that if he really wanted to then he could potentially have a "Captain America" type of build. Hard to know definitively though since Naufumi whole heartedly believes that a shield is just a tool for defense (when it typically was used to enable more attacks).

No. In light novels Naofumi tried to use leveling system from different game he knew, it didn't worked. I believe each hero can bring one way of getting stronger into the new world, which they can then share with other heroes.
@@riddixdan5572 I'm not sure. I have to read that part from light novels again. One thing that might be from Naofumi is status boosts he get from every shields he have gathered and used for period of time. But I'm not sure.
30 second synopsis: the 3 whining babies managed to give the hero 3 more ways he can use concurrently to level up him and his shield at a ridiculous rate. If he takes the exp from, his old shields and uses Ren’s method, he can immediately max out any new shields he gets since he has ground with all his shields til now, meaning he has an insane amount of transferable exp. With his trading ties and his huge collection of monster drops, he can easily level all of his shields using Motayasu’s method, and with Itsuki’s rarity stat and self buffing, he can guarantee himself a base super defense build regardless of the shield’s exp or level and as he collects shields further down his shield tree, they will all be guaranteed higher power than his previous ones. To cap it all off, Naofumi’s own shield carries abilities over once a shield is mastered so he can in essence instantly distill each shield from novice to true cardinal weapon status in a matter of minutes, and since he’s still so low leveled, as he easily levels up he can further use Ren and Itsuki’s methods to stack more exp and exponentially increase his own base stats. What’s crazy is, Naofumi realized they system altered because he believed in the systems they explained, which means he could probably develop his own broken leveling system if he learned more about how the systems themselves were designed and developed their own game logic. Although he hasn’t been able to learn how to utilize it yet, it’s entirely possible the cardinal system has its own parameters for system design that haven’t been discovered, which is the reason why he can’t currently create them.
I really liked Danmachi's level-up system where based on your status and level would determine if you level up or not, and can vary your strength's and weaknesses for me, mine would have 10 slots that improve over time, and sadly, you can't level up until everything is at least at E or D rank in each category strength: how strong you are vitality: how much pain you can endure dexterity: your bodies movement control agility: how fast your reactions are magic: how strong your magic is attack: how strong your attack's are to enemies defense: how strong your defenses are from enemy attacks resistance: how resistant you are to pain, harmful element's, and curses you are speed: how fast you can move/run mana: how much mana you have along with the strength of said Mana and it's this level up system that Naofumi would run into trouble with, you see, if he can't level up without everything being E or D rank at least, then attack is where he falls short in, and it's not like it's fast progression, once you past I rank in each status, you will see a notable decrease in status increase as time goes by, S rank is the most wanted that takes month's or even year's to accomplish for many in this regard though Raphtalia can still age once one status in her stats gets past C rank, she will age in that body we all know and le- love... lewd, same for Filo as well, though, Naofumi would have to increase his attack ASAP if he wants to progress, but in this regard, their level up hold out might come in handy, they could increase their basic status to the point where their level difference won't matter to much if they are skilled enough, turning a rotten situation into an unforeseen opportunity
I think their perspective about the world played along with how they think about their weapons. naofumi accepted that he is transfered to another world, also learning about the world in the hard way, make his perspective is different than the other three, which still not truly believe where they are now and pampered by their surrounding from the beginning

I just thought of something… If Naofumi believed that there’s just a button that increases his own level, would a button letting him increase his level on press appear? If yes, then why would he even bother powering up the usual way?
Will always come back for more Shield Hero content! Your analysis of the aspects of the series are really well put together and entertaining. Something you may have thought about, and this might be a good tie in for closer to when season 2 drops. An overview of whats known about the seven star heros and the vassal heros, Raphtalia's world's side heros and Glass' world's side heros or even just their weapons because there is not much about the wielders quite yet.
In case anyone is still confused, the 4 cardinal weapons are conceptual weapons. They have infinite powers; conceptual powers, and causality manipulation on an absurdly high level, but if there user can’t handle their power, well let’s just say it would be annoying to see the weapons continually resurrect/ fix the existence of their wielders. Yes they become that powerful, and Naofumi becomes so powerful that infinity, space, time, and reality are a joke to him.
Like you said, all they have to do is believe and the methods will be available to them. Just how Ren asked Naofumi where he got his 'cheat shield' from. The other heroes right now are too blind and stubborn to see anything from a different perspective.
Well... I need to say that in my point of vision, Naofumi's style is far harder to use than any other after all. I think that this hability enters in the "Easy to learn, but hard to master" cathegory, even if he boost himself a quite, there are so many types of skills, that makes harder to take the right course of action, but a the same time, wherever he "master" one of his skills, this becomes really "powerful". I don't think that I would be able to use the Air Shield with the same proficiency as him, lol. "Even in a game".
It’s stated in the novels that he has to dedicate himself to mastering the shield if he wants the permanent stat bonuses. This sometimes includes having to improvise using a sub-optimal shield for the situation. Though, because he mastered the weaker, common shields, he got some nice stat bonuses that let him fight much higher than his level would suggest.
While I understand why there's an emphasis why the four heroes can only use 1 weapon and nothing else, I can't help but wish they can actually use other weapons in conjunction or at least as a "sidearm" in battles. As an example, I wish Naofu should still be able to use melee weapons, although of course, the emphasis is that his "build" is around defense, like how it is in MMO-RPGs.
there's a bit missed though but you try to avoid spoiler so its understandable *SPOILER* . . . . . . for each Cardinal(Legendary) Weapon there's always 2 Vassal Weapons (Glass' Fan and L'arc's scythe are Vassal Weapons) that come with it the Legendary Weapons only can be upgraded as many ways as there are Vassal Weapons in the world, and it use the same methods of upgrade as the Vassal Weapons In a Time Travel arc where the world has only the Shield and the Bow, half of Naofumi's upgrade was locked because the world don't have Spear and Sword (and their respective Vassal) yet

This episode sparked some memories of the web novel. Do note, it has been some years since I read it in its entirety and it may be vastly different than the Light Novel, Manga, Anime, Games. Late in the series we learn about the origins of the Cardinal weapons and the secondary weapons among other things... however it takes a bit of additional info which may or may not be insanely spoiler heavy... read at your own risk... also I can't confirm if anything is in the novels yet as I'm only up to the tail end of novel 6 right now. As we all know, the world is currently in peril due to the waves, what isn't explained yet is why the waves are happening and why the local monsters have gotten so aggressive with the arrival of the waves. This is described as an immensely powerful entity who calls herself a god uses the worlds as Experience farms by seeding them with life, making the life more powerful through conflict, and then descending upon a cluster of worlds to harvest the experience points and start the cycle anew while moving to other planets ready for harvest. With the above explained, the following will make a bit more sense... Each world is unique in its own way, the one we're on was originally only humans, the world glass is from is spiritual based, there was a dragonkin world, and demi-human world, and each world had its own Cardinal weapon as well as secondary weapon(s) which if I'm recalling correctly are the spiritual container for either their origin world or third party interested in protecting said world(s). Each of the weapons that attach to people who are summoned limit their power to the base stats so that they do not shatter the soul of the person they get attached to. Why the world we're seeing has more than 1 cardinal weapon is due to how the worlds connect via wave portals... Cardinal Weapons, secondary weapons, technology, and races came to this world while fleeing the destruction of their home world. Part of this also explains why the Shield hero is the hero of the Demi Humans. :) I'm hoping to find out what it turns out to be in the Light Novel.
you write out a Lots ,also the Web Novel is like a 1st Draft of a book ,so a bunch of stuff is different ,like the Cal Mira Island Arc/islands Wave Arc ,in this case the heroes temporarily switching groups ,only happened in the Web Novel ,& not Light Novel or Manga ,also In the Light Novel , Naofumi doesn't turn in a turn into a mad scientist.
The Sword, Spear and Bow heroes all assumed that their legendary weapons were running on video game logic where things should be relatively balanced. Naofumi on the other hand assumed his legendary weapon was running on light novel logic where the protagonist is stupid OP compared to everyone else.

Ren leveled his up, Pedo upgraded his skyrim style, and Itsuki mearlly used the rarist varient of his. I don't think the 3 stooges said anything about unlocking skills by feeding monster parta to thier weapons. Then again, it's been awhile since i saw shield hero, so i may not remember it. Interestingly, for anyone familiar with Warframe and its weapon system, each of these three upgrade paths is utilized in that game. A weapon's mastery is increased through use, which provides points with which mods can be installed. Mods increase the power, stats, and abilities available to the weapon. Mods come in different rarities, and material components can be used to upgrade the mods, which also increases the mod point cost to equip them. When weapons are at maximum mastery, the mastery can be reset to halve the cost of a mod in a specific mod slot on the weapon, allowing more high rank mods to be equipped. The sad thing is, these guys were basically only doing one of these things each, meaning that they either had a ton of capacity with poor quality mods, a lot of rare but unranked mods, or a very small number of highly ranked mods without the capacity to use them well. I think anyone that's played Warframe understands just how crippling that lack of understanding would be.

Itsuki's methods in particular get kind of insane when combined with the others. For one, weapons with greater rarity gain better enhancements. Using ren's mastery points though, the rarity of a weapon could be increased. Furthermore, itsuki's item enchantment boosts are percentage based, meaning they would get significantly better if all the weapons functions are improved.
If only they had worked together at the very start.

honestly this video really taught me alot about shield hero that i could barely keep up with what you're saying, and i love this types of videos where you get to explain and explore the lore, mechanics and history of an anime.
I am pretty sure he is mixing and matching the methods and heroes by accident. For Ren, the sword had nothing to do with rarity. That was all Itsuki, as he said later on. As Mastery goes up, the stats of the mastered weapon increases, hence at 100 mastery, the weapon can be used with additional stats (this has nothing to do with rarity). Resetting mastery to 0, by consuming said mastery instead of transferring (what he did with the weaker shields), increases the BASE stats of the said shield. Thus temporarily weakening the shield to power it up again at 100% mastery.
Motoyasu is the one which could consume monster material for specified bonus, Related to the material used, for example, you can refine a specific shield with various materials from dragons to provide it with bonuses all related to dragons, making a specialized shield for dragons. The drawback is that there was a limitation of slots. His other method is very similar to Itsuki, in that using specific ores to reforge/plate their weapon making a bonus +1, +2, etc to the name.
Itsuki as said is the one concerned with rarity, by reforging using specified ore, the rarity increases. Both Motoyasu and Itsuki's reforging methods have a chance to fail, the higher the progress it is, the more difficult it is to succeed. Both this and Motoyasu's method are very consuming of resources, as multiple retries are necessary to successfully reforge/plate one weapon and the stronger the weapon, the more rare and valuable the consumed ore/ metal has to be.
All of these methods increases stats which are provided by the shield, which is the overall goal. Also what Motoyasu said was not stats, but proficiency. He specified, that by killing a specific monster over and over again, he can increase the proficiency in fighting that specific type of monster which lines up with one of the methods he mentions: by using the drops as materials, he could give his weapons a bonus such as underwater combat +20%. In contrast to Ren's Mastery, which increases the mastery percentage based of weapon usage, which is why Naofumi's viper chimera shield was 100% as his most used most powerful shield (excluding the curse series)

It makes sense as the Heroes are supposed to work together. When you have a "Hero" Party they are expected to work together to a goal which is further supported by the fact that Queen Birdy was ready to just kill them all for not working together.
When Naofumi teaches them his methods I can already imagine that they would never believe Naofumi because his methods don't seem like they would lead to his overpowered shield. Except why would they anyways? Naofumi's rage and hatred towards them is something they would never understand because they've only ever held casual hate and not hatred born from utter despair. It's understandable that they wouldn't believe him. Although Ren is always the "I'll maybe try to trust him a little" so I guess Ren might try his method. As for the others heroes, I don't believe that they will believe him until he shows them that all of their methods actually work.
The thing is Ren is a somewhat hero because at least he tries to take responsibility but the other 2 not so much. But wjen ren get the curse series then insay he becomimg a hero
His only method was gaining skills and shields. Bases on the material he places in the the shield. He had an unlock system the others likely did not know about.
@@129das actually, no. Naofumi does have his own methods but they are way less game-y than the others.
First is Trust: by trusting in their companions and those companions trusting the hero, both parties gain a boost in power.
Second is Sharing: the effectiveness of Power up methods is increased if the heroes learned them from each other.
Third is Energy boost: A hero with this method can apply their life force to increase the effectiveness of skills or crafted items.
We still don't know Naofumi's fourth method, sadly.
The other heroes don't hate Naofumi, hate is an incredibly powerful emotion, it worms in deep within your gut and burns like the dying embers of a fire that refuse to go out.
They are frustrated by his success despite their preconceptions of his legendary weapon and his personal character, they are also becoming frustrated for being so easily fooled by Myne, especially Motayatsu who does genuinely want to be a good person deep down.
Naofumi's hate is also generalised towards the world and how it works, less towards the 'stupid' heroes he was summoned with. This is why he's got a soft heart for the demihumans who've been trampled all over and just want to live a decent quiet life.
I mean it doesn't need to be rage, Wrath is only one of the 7 deadly sins
The characters failed to understand their weapons were MAGIC and worked exactly like they thought it should. They were capable of more but their brains created the limits, not the weapons themselves.
Honestly I will be surprised if Ren isn't the first to figure this out. He's the most reasonable out of them all.

Y'know how after the other three heroes stopped trying to kill him and actually told him about the videogame aspects of the weapons, Naofumi realized he'd been doing everything in really inefficient ways? Like crafting stuff by hand instead of with his shield?
Was there any benefit to doing stuff the hard way like that or was it purely just a big waste of time and effort for him?
By walking everywhere instead of fast travelling he met more people and monsters and stuff, so that's an upside of doing *that* the hard way. Did he create higher quality items by making them by hand?
That’s a good question, I have a few guesses for you:
1. He could be developing actual skill in crafting which can surpass that of his shields quick craft. (He can do a better job, but it takes longer.)
2. The shield can only craft items of an equal quality to its users skills. (So the more he crafts the better his quick craft becomes.)
3. Improving his crafting skill may have unlocked some shield abilities. (I’m thinking potion enhance but I’m not sure.)
Honestly none of these could be correct, but they are my best guesses.

Since he now has more background knowledge of the process he can probably craft better and more veried number of things than the other heroes. Like I know with enchantments and stuff he's able to read and cast his own spells and the other heroes can only do the spells that were given to them. There is probably a similar limit that the weapon can only craft what a person knows.

And more so, there's more weapons than just what the 4 heroes have, which are almost as strong, but with less restrictions. The Trash king did have one of those before...
But as for his hatred for Naofumi, it started from him hating the previous shield hero. problem is, if one hero dies, the waves instantly become harder. more so if naofumi would have died given he's now the only one capable of fighting the waves... the other 3 couldn't even take out much on the 2nd wave they fought in...
honestly, it's a ton of stubbornness and stupidity that's holding a lot of characters back... even naofumi in some cases although he does get better about it later on.

This series is so amazing when you really think about it, in the beginning were told that the heros progression will be reduced if they level up together. This can be seen as a test for the heros to trust eachother since for most of their adventures they have been apart from one another. I think that who ever originally summoned these heros their end goal was to test each sets of heros to see if they had the foresight and enlightenment to change perspectives in order to better combat the waves and save the people of this particular world...

He noticed these mechanics pretty late though, which means the source of his strength was, ironically, the anger towards the unreasonable situations he found himself in that gave him the will to survive no matter what and have his revenge. He already had an inquisitive and open mind, but in the beginning he was naive like the other 3. He was humbled by all the crap he went through and was made to be willing to do the grunt work to survive because this wasn’t a game. So even though he had an incomplete system like the others (though maybe it was a little stronger because he wasn’t locked into is delusions like the other heroes) he grinded as much as he could and even learned all sorts of things by himself which complemented his abilities. In my opinion this was just the icing on the cake, he was already stronger than all of them combined but he “stole” their method of getting stronger, hammering the last nail in the coffin of their usefulness and beginning their downfall to their sin series.

Also, another thing to mention is their party members. Naofumi’s party members had a mix of ranged fighters, melee fighters, defenders and supporters. From what I saw in Motoyasu’s party is that his are all girls that could only attack. Purely power. Nothing to fill in the niches that he lacks such as healers or supporters.

Hold on, with the mastery for Ren, I thought that it works 100% of the time, the only time that there was a risk of it failing is with Naofumi and that's because he believed that there was a risk and so the risk was there like the other strengthening method. Otherwise, it would work 100% of the time, or is this only for the WN and it's different to LN.
Anyway, I have to thank you for explaining the strengthening methods, as I'm doing a fanfic of this story and whilst doing my own strengthening methods for Naofumi, knowing how it work helped me a lot. So once again, thank you for doing this video, your best yet.

That's crazy. This explains why he's so damn powerful compared to the other heroes. That's great info to have.
This can probably explain the types of games each of the four heroes like to play:
Ren: Games like Skyrim (leveling up your skills and making them legendary to reset the level to increase the limit.)
Motoyashu: Demonsouls/Darksouls or more accurately Dark Cloud (the main strength was upgrading your weapons to increase it's stats or give it special effects that benefitted from your own stats.)
Itsuki: Borderlands or Diablo (killing mobs and collecting weapons and potentially gems that augments them.)
Naofumi: Survival games or games like Monster Hunter. (Naofumi's major strength was crafting and the items he had. His accessories can potentially make a normal soldier pose a serious threat to enemies and his items are not only potent but have an extra effect thanks to his shield.)
Naofumi also unlocks all kinds of shield forms by putting any possible materials or items in it an unlocking their equip bonuses by equipping them for long enough. In a way, his lack of knowledge about increasing the quality of his weapon forms made him focus on quantity and increase his base stats.
It came in handy once he learned that both Ren and Motoyasu had mastery methods and that was given direction by Itsuki's rarity method to which shield forms to focus on.
While Ren and Motoyasu both rely on mastering their weapon forms, none of them thought about going to sleep while equipping their weapon forms.

Tbh I think the idea that they could only use the weapons they were given and nothing else was pretty cool, as well as how they get different versions.
Naofumi using his shield upgrades for collecting herbs and creating medicine was also pretty interesting.
I didn't really understand their explanations in the anime, but I'd long noticed the other heroes were limited in their growth by their insistence on seeing the world around them through the prism of the games that brought them there, but more than I reckoned that the games they played adapted the reality of Melromarc to fit their respective platforms, and so none of them would have the whole picture. Essentially the blind men and the elephant.
After all, you can't always apply the same strategy in a VR game that you would in a mobile game. I'd figured the weapons simply tailored their interface the expectations of their owners, and Naofumi's inexperience meant that he was not as limited, and could easily adapt his strategies to reality without the hindrance of a gamer's pretense. Although on the flipside it also meant that he didn't know what to believe in, and so his weapon couldn't fully adapt to his needs.
I was reading the power up methods of the vassal weapons and damn, the whip is broken. No wonder is such a key aspect in the light novel.

Basically, it allows the user to lower his or anyone else's level by 1 and keep the Stat bonus. So you can can be level 1 with level 900 stats and the same exp requirements to level up.
The Legendary weapons have access to the vassal power ups too, so they can use it.
Yeah, its the best way to bypass the Level 100 limiter. I think S'yne sister vassal weapon have it in which it does explain on why she can overpower naofumi even though they dont have a full pledge dragon emperor to bypass their levels
If Naofumi wanted to test inventing his own progression system to add to it, given how his party is growing, he probably wants some sort of ally-links system where his shields gain new powers from emotional connections to his party members.
Novels #15 & 16 elaborate that each of the Seven Star Heroes have additional power-up methods that are applicable to the Four Legendary Weapons. Methods from other worlds don't seem to work, per se, at least not for now.
Thanks for the clarity on this system! Considering how its setup to be so flexible, it makes me think that if he really wanted to then he could potentially have a "Captain America" type of build.
Hard to know definitively though since Naufumi whole heartedly believes that a shield is just a tool for defense (when it typically was used to enable more attacks).
Malfumi said that they just need to believe a system is true for it to become true.

No. In light novels Naofumi tried to use leveling system from different game he knew, it didn't worked. I believe each hero can bring one way of getting stronger into the new world, which they can then share with other heroes.

30 second synopsis: the 3 whining babies managed to give the hero 3 more ways he can use concurrently to level up him and his shield at a ridiculous rate. If he takes the exp from, his old shields and uses Ren’s method, he can immediately max out any new shields he gets since he has ground with all his shields til now, meaning he has an insane amount of transferable exp. With his trading ties and his huge collection of monster drops, he can easily level all of his shields using Motayasu’s method, and with Itsuki’s rarity stat and self buffing, he can guarantee himself a base super defense build regardless of the shield’s exp or level and as he collects shields further down his shield tree, they will all be guaranteed higher power than his previous ones. To cap it all off, Naofumi’s own shield carries abilities over once a shield is mastered so he can in essence instantly distill each shield from novice to true cardinal weapon status in a matter of minutes, and since he’s still so low leveled, as he easily levels up he can further use Ren and Itsuki’s methods to stack more exp and exponentially increase his own base stats. What’s crazy is, Naofumi realized they system altered because he believed in the systems they explained, which means he could probably develop his own broken leveling system if he learned more about how the systems themselves were designed and developed their own game logic. Although he hasn’t been able to learn how to utilize it yet, it’s entirely possible the cardinal system has its own parameters for system design that haven’t been discovered, which is the reason why he can’t currently create them.
I really liked Danmachi's level-up system where based on your status and level would determine if you level up or not, and can vary your strength's and weaknesses

I think their perspective about the world played along with how they think about their weapons. naofumi accepted that he is transfered to another world, also learning about the world in the hard way, make his perspective is different than the other three, which still not truly believe where they are now and pampered by their surrounding from the beginning

In case anyone is still confused, the 4 cardinal weapons are conceptual weapons. They have infinite powers; conceptual powers, and causality manipulation on an absurdly high level, but if there user can’t handle their power, well let’s just say it would be annoying to see the weapons continually resurrect/ fix the existence of their wielders. Yes they become that powerful, and Naofumi becomes so powerful that infinity, space, time, and reality are a joke to him.

Well... I need to say that in my point of vision, Naofumi's style is far harder to use than any other after all. I think that this hability enters in the "Easy to learn, but hard to master" cathegory, even if he boost himself a quite, there are so many types of skills, that makes harder to take the right course of action, but a the same time, wherever he "master" one of his skills, this becomes really "powerful". I don't think that I would be able to use the Air Shield with the same proficiency as him, lol. "Even in a game".
It’s stated in the novels that he has to dedicate himself to mastering the shield if he wants the permanent stat bonuses. This sometimes includes having to improvise using a sub-optimal shield for the situation.
Though, because he mastered the weaker, common shields, he got some nice stat bonuses that let him fight much higher than his level would suggest.
While I understand why there's an emphasis why the four heroes can only use 1 weapon and nothing else, I can't help but wish they can actually use other weapons in conjunction or at least as a "sidearm" in battles. As an example, I wish Naofu should still be able to use melee weapons, although of course, the emphasis is that his "build" is around defense, like how it is in MMO-RPGs.
Naofumi unlocked abilities that allow his allies to become stronger than they would have otherwise could have gotten.

the Legendary Weapons only can be upgraded as many ways as there are Vassal Weapons in the world, and it use the same methods of upgrade as the Vassal Weapons
In a Time Travel arc where the world has only the Shield and the Bow, half of Naofumi's upgrade was locked because the world don't have Spear and Sword (and their respective Vassal) yet

I've read 14 of the light novels.
I've read the entite web novel and am currently reading the 4th volume of the light novels yet I'm watching this too.
First(to like the vid)
This episode sparked some memories of the web novel. Do note, it has been some years since I read it in its entirety and it may be vastly different than the Light Novel, Manga, Anime, Games.
Late in the series we learn about the origins of the Cardinal weapons and the secondary weapons among other things... however it takes a bit of additional info which may or may not be insanely spoiler heavy... read at your own risk... also I can't confirm if anything is in the novels yet as I'm only up to the tail end of novel 6 right now.
As we all know, the world is currently in peril due to the waves, what isn't explained yet is why the waves are happening and why the local monsters have gotten so aggressive with the arrival of the waves. This is described as an immensely powerful entity who calls herself a god uses the worlds as Experience farms by seeding them with life, making the life more powerful through conflict, and then descending upon a cluster of worlds to harvest the experience points and start the cycle anew while moving to other planets ready for harvest.
With the above explained, the following will make a bit more sense...
Each world is unique in its own way, the one we're on was originally only humans, the world glass is from is spiritual based, there was a dragonkin world, and demi-human world, and each world had its own Cardinal weapon as well as secondary weapon(s) which if I'm recalling correctly are the spiritual container for either their origin world or third party interested in protecting said world(s). Each of the weapons that attach to people who are summoned limit their power to the base stats so that they do not shatter the soul of the person they get attached to.
Why the world we're seeing has more than 1 cardinal weapon is due to how the worlds connect via wave portals... Cardinal Weapons, secondary weapons, technology, and races came to this world while fleeing the destruction of their home world. Part of this also explains why the Shield hero is the hero of the Demi Humans. :) I'm hoping to find out what it turns out to be in the Light Novel.
you write out a Lots ,also the Web Novel is like a 1st Draft of a book ,so a bunch of stuff is different ,like the Cal Mira Island Arc/islands Wave Arc ,in this case the heroes temporarily switching groups ,only happened in the Web Novel ,& not Light Novel or Manga ,also In the Light Novel , Naofumi doesn't turn in a turn into a mad scientist.
