    I love the real world, this is all you need approach you take. No bashing other dudes, you encourage shooters to adapt the fundamentals to their body mechanics. I’ve had conversations like this for years, and always run into, “well so and so was spec op and can do blah blah blah with a Glock 19, and he says this is how your supposed to do it”. My answer to that is always, “do you use his techniques at the range?”, -- “yeah”--“do you shoot as good as he does?”-- silence. You can learn something from the dumbest guy in the room if you just shut up and listen.

    • @texasbeast239
      @texasbeast239 5 лет назад +1

      It's so cool to find an instructor who recognizes that we all have to take general guidelines and adapt them to our our biology. It's not about some 60-point formula. It's about keeping yourself balanced and comfortable as you apply maybe a half-dozen-point formula.
      Not all bodies are alike and not all guns are alike. Even if 10 people step up to the line with the exact same model of stock gun and they all follow the exact same instructions, they won't all get the exact same shot placement. We gotta compensate. We gotta alter.
      Excessive dogmatism during training fails to take into consideration that we all have to adapt and modify during an actual shooting anyway. So we'd better learn how to do it during training where it's safe, first.
      Learn the first principles of shooting, and then we should be able to move from one platform to another fairly well. Learn any one gun in some black and white manner, and we gotta start over from scratch when we go to another gun. Ugh.

    Even if someone "HATES" lasers they are absolutely fantastic tools for training - especially on trigger control. A great test is to dry fire into a mirror from across a room using a small pin-point target reflected in the mirror on the wall behind and to the side of you. Use a point in a picture, a spot on the wall or in the wall paper or even the corner tri-junction of 2 walls and the ceiling. This doubles the distance of the room/shot and also the wobbling of the point of impact; and the laser makes this extremely obvious. Eventually you should be able to consistently 'click-off' shots on a dime-sized spot without the laser's dot leaving the target. This will not only reveal problems with trigger control but also with breath control, and the best location of your finger on the trigger (for grip issues you really need live ammo to show problems). What it will NOT do, is teach you anything concerning your iron or red-dot sights, since they will not be involved or used during this type of practice. You will be watching the down-range laser dot - NOT your front post. Indeed, if you had a red-dot mounted I suggest you turn it off for this drill. I do not believe you will get this kind of feed-back from other electric type sights but this is only my untested impression. Even if you chose to remove the laser for EDC your control skills will be there.

    I'm not pro so you can take my comments with a grain of salt. It's good to know about posture. I would say balance bending slightly towards the target. I tried some of these techniques at the range so I reviewed videos from some other experts. I learned more detail about the grip, analogy to a vice and the 70/30 left hand versus right hand pressure including forward and back pressure. Most importantly I learned about techniques to line up the target in addition to just centering the front and back. Most importantly I learned the how to keep the sight on the barrel on the target during the trigger pull. Pull pull pull didn't do it for me. I simply pull back to trigger until it reaches the breaking point. Then smoothly pull through, and softening as a reach the back of the trigger so it doesn't turn the gun at the end. I think it's good that there's awareness of 5 points. But what I learned form other people and going to the range, good balance, decent grip pressure in the right way, and keeping the sight on target at the same time was the key for me. Emptying the gun and chamber and dry firing helped develop my technique too.

    Thanks for doing this video, hopefully this will help my wife hit the broadside of a barn, instead of hitting dirt in front of the target.

    Great tips I'll definitely try them out. I just picked up a Vp9sk. Took it to the range and I kept shooting low right or completely missing the target. Couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. Hopefully these tips will help me out. Thank you!

      If you are shooting consistently low right, and you are right handed then you may be using too much of your finger to pull the trigger, which can cause you to pull the gun to the right. Try to use the tip of your finger or just the first section of your index finger when pulling directly back on the trigger. This may help you correct this issue.

    Yup yup. On that small pistol if you touch the slide lock while shooting it'll either not open up when empty or itll open with ammo in the mag. Learned the hard way lol

    Great video, Mick. I watch a lot of gun education videos, you and John Lovell are two of my favorites. Love the common sense instruction with some humor thrown in. "Don't be a di#khead." Classic! Thank you!

      Most self defense shootings are within 3-7 yards, 25 yards is a good max training distance for handguns

    I had to put a Grip Force beavertail adapter on my Gen4 G20, G29 because slide bite. Works perfectly, no complaints and I genuinely have a better grip on it and confidence of no more Slide bite.

    I simply can not shoot with my hand canted. Every instructor teaches this. I shoot my own way and it works.

    Thank you for these reminders. The Press Press Press I learned with my P320 and now have to apply to my stock G19. I have a range day that really messed with my head with the Glock. It was hitting way, way left. checked the new sights and realigned them, then spent an hour on trigger control. I was getting great groups on the first 3-4 shots, then they started getting "flyers" that were 5-6 inches off the main group at 15 yards. I think it was fatigue. Going to try again and see. Thanks again

    Question… In some of the camera angles you look like you have a right handed grip, but you’re “aiming” with your left eye. Are you “cross” eye dominate?
