I just qualified on my requalifications. The best score I've scored in two years 🎯 I was focused on the fundamentals. It's amazing how you can progress with practice.
Excellent presentation of the three types. The reference to the bore alignment also reminds me why it is so comical when watching someone holding a gun sideways. The barrel's axis with a very slight tilt upwards is intended to compensate for the ballistic of pistol cartridges. The obviously have lower velocity and higher drag coefficient to most rifle rounds. In the RARE instance of seeing some shooting a pistol at more than 100yards, know they are very experienced and short of having extremely adjustable sights are calculating in their mind the increase of marks a rifle shooter may use on a reticle.
I put a set of Williams Foresights on my wife's S&W SD9 and she absolutely loves them, now all I need to do is get a set for my S&W M&P Shield and I'll be good to go.
I knew about gun safety and all that, but no one taught the fundamentals of using my iron sights on my pistol properly. It wasn't until I was checking my gun for cleanliness one night and after watching this video that I realized I had been aiming wrong my whole life! I felt so stupid.🤦♂️
I’m so confused by the 6 o clock hold. I assume the shooter has to sight their gun in to shoot high in order to use this method??? Seems like a lot of disadvantages to this technique (as mentioned in video)
three dot combat hold makes my brian hurt. I wind up doing a center hold about an in or so above the bullseye for long range shots (25 yards). But for 20 to 50 feet i have to admit they work pretty good.
If I have the tall suppressor height sights, can I still use a center hold or should I switch to the 3 dot/combat sight picture? My dad recently ordered an optics ready M&P 2.0 with the flat trigger and that comes with the tall sights. I'm currently doing my research before I shoot it
I’m so used to the standard height sights the tall sights mess up my presentation haha. I would take it out to the range. Get a circle target and try different holds.
Hi, I just started attending a shooting range, I shot targets with a white background and black circle. How do I understand which of the three types of sight are right for me?
Im no expert as i got back into shooting after a 20 year break. But i center hold everything and if after im sure im not flinching or anticipating the recoil, usually about 100 or so rounds or however long it takes you to get used to a guns grip, if at that point you are consistantly grouping about an inch or so low at 30 feet your gun is probaby set up for combat hold (3dot). Its not too bad if you can shoot with both eyes open and focus like a hawk on that front dot.
@@ChrisHirner Thanks, that's some of the best advice that I've heard anyone ever suggest. I also just began shooting my guns again after taking a 20 year break not only to get back into it as a activity but mainly due to the recent Supreme Court's ruling overturning my state's "must show and have a good and substantial reason" to obtain a CCW which I am in the process of training for this week.
Depends on what you are training for, in my opinion. If you are training to shoot targets at competition or at a competitive shooter association, then you can do one eye open. However, if you are training in accuracy for a job like the police force, keep both eyes open. Most of the time when you get into a situation where your life is in danger you won’t think to close one eye to aim at the threat. You naturally keep both eyes open. Train that way, and you will become a lot more accurate and it could save your life and those around you.
But like you, I need glasses. But I am 55 yrs old. I need to squint. In a self defense situation, we can't get our bifocals. But I do hit steel at 50 yard's.
Good afternoon, how are you. my name is Michel, I am a sports shooter and I would like to know if you can send me these dot sights. I also need triggers for competition. Shipping will be to Brazil, I await your return. thank you so much.
I don’t understand 3 dot sights. It’s not conducive to natural brain function. You should be concentrating mainly on the front sight dot. Why is there 3 dots to acquire?
I just got a Sig p320 x carry. The sights on the gun are off I think. At 7 or 8 yards, equal height equal light, if I aim with the front sight on the desired impact it hits at least 3 to 4 inches AT LEAST above it! I HATE THIS! I want to aim at what I want to hit not well below..... How can I fix this, if there is any way?!
It has combat sights I’m pretty sure, I have an sp-2022 and I put the dot on the target not just below it and that gets it hitting accurate. You are probably used to target sights which you put just below. It takes getting used to for sure.
@@notanymore9471 you are talking an inch difference between putting the front sight below the target or ON the target. When it comes to self defense, it does not matter if its ON target or below target, a person is huge and that round will hit them. Even at 50 ft out, if you have sights ON them, its going to hit them. Even at a self defense situation where the guy is like 10 ft or even 5 ft from you, you don't need to aim using sights, he is right there ON you, just point and shoot at chest.
I think it depends on your sights and what type of weapon. For example, I think most handguns are zeroed for 25 meters, so at 25 meters I would use center hold, as you get closer I would 6 o clock hold
@@isidrosevier1125 nah cuz sights are based on bullet trajectory, every time an object is thrown it gets a little bit of air lift so the trajectory goes up, then as gravity and drag slow it down it drops. So at 6 yards you would be closer to the lift of the bullet so shots would be a bit higher than point of aim, at 25 yards (or whatever the zero is) your shots would be at aim, and outside of 25 yards you would start getting bullet drop. Its like throwing a football, every time you throw it the ball has some form of arc where it goes up from your hand release and then will come down.
there is only one method for sight picture and sight alignment. the 6 o clock hold is crutch for those that buck the trigger or weirdos with adjustable sights, and the dots are not sights they are only sight alignment tools. using the top edge of the front sight post is how the pistol is designed to be aimed mechanically. the dots help you get alignment as you are driving the pistol out from your chest picking up the front dot first and then aligning the dots and as you finish driving the pistol into your shooting position you aim correctly with the tip of the front sight post....... great visuals and presentation but you got some shit wrong.
I firmly believe only a fool would want to use a combat sight picture hold. There's nothing like completely obscuring your target to become a less accurate pistol shooter!
Bullseye shooting! You put the front post right under the bull so you can see it plain as day, then focus on front sight, then when it's just touching the bottom of the bullseye take yer shot. It's about vision so you don't block out yer target.
Your 6 O-clock hold explanation is confusing because absolutely nobody is going to try to "maintain proper sight alignment" and then elevate the the front post above the rear sight to make your explanation work. A gun has to be setup specifically for a 6 O-clock hold - you can't make it work with today's pistols that come with combat sights.
Very great explanation and presentation. You helped me out on this one. Now I understand the reason I was a terrible shot my first few 100 rounds.

Thank you for this video! I have improved because of this! 🔥🔥🔥
Great video thanks. Why will you be impacting low with a 3 dot hold after 7 yards. Is that because of bullet drop?
If you have to use the 6 o'clock hold, doesn't it just mean your front sight is too short?
From what I understand glock design to shoot 6 o'clock hole so you can always see what your shooting at

the front dot
the 2 rear dots.
You must put the front dot between the 2 rear dots as shown in the video at 1:15

because your rear sight is off ... They are not perfect by any means. If your rear sight is adjustable, adjust it otherwise get a red dot
