She used to joke that she had so many parents ask her if she was a fan that because of it that she desperately wanted to see it but kept missing it on TV.
Office Space is practically a documentary it's so relatable. I'm so glad they were able to keep in the printer scene and the gangsta rap, it just fits perfectly.
I love that it was filmed in my home State of Texas.....these characters remind me of people I knew and worked with back in Texas. In the beginning of the movie, I laughed because that traffic is representative of MOPAC and I 35 in Austin.

Bless you for covering one of my favorites! Ages ago I worked for a subsidiary of Tyco International when this movie came out. The list of comparisons to the movie is endless, but my best personal experience was getting a free townhouse for 7 months. True story....I was put there during a trainee/temporary phase while the company decided where to put me. Tycoon laid off everyone that knew I was there, except for me and my boss....but they never looked to see if anyone was still living there. Monthd later, they negotiated their way out of the leases and sent in the movers to take out the rented furniture. Oops! Someone is living in this one! I got an angry call from a corporate lawyer at my desk.....wondering how in the hell I was living in one of the town houses. I explain the situation, who gave me the keys, etc. I was told I had one week to move out or I would owe them for the cost of the townhouse lease and the furniture. I went from a two bedroom townhouse with no bills to living on a co-workers couch 😂

That scene was totally awesome, but Peter’s dream courtroom scene where where Samir and Michael are sentenced to federal, pound-me-in-the-a** prison had me laughing so hard, I honestly thought I was going to pass out in the movie theatre
We watched this a LOT once it finally came out on DVD. Oddly enough, it became our (then) 8-year-old son's favorite movie. I have no idea why he related to a movie about being stuck in a dead-end job, but he was a unique child. He would watch it over and over. We had to cut him off when he got into trouble for swearing at school, but were very happy to let him have it back once he had proved that he could control what he said in public. And in front of his grandparents. That has proved to be a VERY valuable lesson.
The road used in the opening scene is the exact road I am about to take to work right this minute. I also had a friend that lived in Peter and Lawrence's apartment complex. This movie is legendary.
A colleague and I went out and bought red Swingline staplers which we put in prominent positions on our desks. Just a little bit of a warning not to mess with us, cuz we'll burn the place down. Most people never got the joke, but the expression of delight on the faces of those that understood why there was a shiny red Swingline stapler on my desk were priceless.
I liked the dream sequence where he dreams of Lumburgh making love with his heart throb and (shirtless) he still had his coffee cup and saying “ohh yeahhh”

One of the funniest bits to me was when Peter told Michael that he was getting fired, and Michael Said "I actually told those fudge packers I liked Michael Bolton's music." And Peter say, "Aw, now that just isn't right" as if that was really the worst thing about it. I actually saw a video here on YT where the singer Michael Bolton actually reenacted scenes from the movie playing the Michael Bolton character making cracks against him. I am not a fan of Michael Bolton's music, but the fact that he did that, to me anyway, shows he's a good sport. Besides, he's not the only singer to be made made in to a running joke in a comedy. In the movie, License to Drive, Frank Sinatra was butt of many jokes.

I'm firmly in the target generation for Beavis and Butthead, but I liked King of the Hill more. Season 1, Episode 1, Hank Hill believes in climate change.
I started my career in IT in 1995, and my first job was in a building layout so much like the one in the movie. I went to this movie in the theaters and even took my teenage brother to see it, and we both loved it so much (he went into IT as well). And for a movie made in 1999, it still holds up very well today, though it helps that several on the cast became pretty well known since then.
I used to hear different people I worked with, quote Office Space, but I hadn't seen it. Every time that I asked was it good, they would say no. But they'd often quote it some more with workers later. It normally got smiles and laughs. Many years later, when I'd hear it quoted, I'd ask if it was a good movie. Now they say yes, it's a classic. I finally saw it and now I know what they meant. It's not necessarily what you usually go to the movies for, but it hits a lot of the beats you see in common work life. It's classic.
As someone who worked in a couple of those 1990s "cube farm" tech companies, I appreciated this brilliant parody right from the start. I can understand, though, how the humor would be less accessible to those without that experience.
The best part of this channel is the fact you yourself do the commentary, NOT some stupid computer voice! Thanks for the great commentary and context! 🇨🇦
I was pumped to see this in the theater when it was released just based on Mike Judge. I swear, in the US, it only showed for maybe 2 weeks, so I missed it. The first time it was available on PPV, I recorded it and shared it with all of my friends.
I watched Office Space and immediately become a huge fan. I can't imagine a world without this movie. In my opinion all of the actors were perfectly cast. Every single one of them! Mike Judge is a creative genius and the world is a better place with him in it! Glad to see that the real Michael Bolton took it all in as just some good humor at his expense. I loaned the first copy of the movie that I bought to a family member and never saw it again. So I bought a second one and a friend borrowed it and I never saw it again either. I am currently on my third purchase of this movie which I watch when I need a pick me up. Thanks Mike Judge!!
I started wearing flair at my current job. Nothing too big, just a pin on my tie. I think because of me some of my coworkers began wearing pins on their ties, too. 😅
Been doing this for years with my office lanyard - Just a smiley a friend gave me at one point (most of the office friends said I should stain it to look like the Comedian badge from The Watchmen but, I think work may have had a fit if I did :P)
I worked in the movie theaters when this came out & still have the standee/ wall hanger of the guy covered in Post-It-Notes in my basement! It's such a great movie that comes up in conversation from time to time!
Saw it in theaters and loved every second of it. I worked temp and IT jobs in Silicon Valley from 1994-2008, so much of this movie hits home right down to the TPS reports.
And actually, Peter wasn't even assigned the reports, just the report COVERS! Talk about companies' priorities being so out of whack! I've seen this - mostly in the govt. sector but also in the private sector - a lot of organizations are more interested in process than results.
I worked in Silicon Valley for 20 years. I have worked at inefficient companies like Initech. Nike being most like Initech (I had 3 bosses). Also, my day was usually done by 11AM and I would just online shop or space out. I bought my Compaq laptop in 1999 with a DVD player just so I could watch Office Space while I flew to Washington D.C.
Stephen Root is one of the great American character actors. THERE IS NONE BETTER although there are other greats. Office Space had a great cast but Root was genius.
This is a perfect movie. It is funny and unique with a relatively unknown cast. Plus, it encapsulates a moment and place in time that resonated with office workers around the world. The movie still resonates. Office Space remains one of my all time favorite films
What I like about both Office Space and King of the Hill is that the humor is more subtle rather than just being all out raunchy and being reliant on sex jokes or gross out/bathroom humor like most 90's comedies. I heard the character, Lawrence who was Peter's neighbor in the movie was inspired by a friend Mike Judge had back in Texas, who was a part time mechanic who made more money than Mike did at Silicon valley.
And you see, that's something that society/media never tells you, that you can make great money in blue collar work. My parents pushed me to college, because they fell for the big lie. I'm making fairly good money now, still not six figures, but it only took over 30 years to get there (+4 for college).
No offense, but I'd rather have the "Johnny" mug from WKRP in Cincinnati, with all the crossed-out last names. They have some generic coffee mugs with this printed on them, but not the same screen-used shape, unfortunately.
I remember seeing Office Space at an advanced screening in Dallas about a week before it was released. The packed house loved it The opening scene in traffic is so true. When it was released on video everyone started talking about it.
Not that it matters, but as a point of clarification, the opening traffic scene is filmed in Dallas - specifically, the stretch of 635 between 75 and 35, a route I used to begrudgingly drive daily back in the day.
I still remember watching Office Space in the theatre and thought it was absolutely hilarious and I still do and it’s one of my favourite movies and I dressed up as Milton for a friends Halloween party one year!
Watched this with my dad one time who worked in middle management at AT&T and he said that is so accurate and really cracked up at the “consultants” (the Bobs ha ha ha)
Federal agencies like VA, SBA, FEMA have employees like that. 🏢 Many offices, depts are structured, rigid. GS employees expect things or offices are certain way, certain schedule.
I was working at an engineering manager mainly on the Austin-Bergstrom Airport and we had a lot of empty offices because a group of the engineers had just finished a contract. In walks Mike Judge and about 6 other people and asked if we had any extra offices with computers, phones and fax machines. We did and they filmed the movie in a building behind us and the front of building and the fire was right outside my window. The bar was in the Omni Hotel across the parking lot where I had frequented a few times after work. Even had a couple of lunch dates with a cute blonde that picked out the various places for filming outside the office interior. And wow I loved the movie. It really fit Austin at the time too because of the growing tech industry and the new class of nerds that were migrating to Austin.
Also, as I was going to business school when that movie came out EVERY business professor LOVED this movie...some with extreme passion at how accurate it was.
Office Space hit close to home. I was new into the "office" world at the time and it hit so many things about working for corporate just right. Funnily, or unfunnily, enough it's still so similar in corporate life. The advent of "open workspaces" arguably made it worse as now you really are cattle without even a little private space. This movie is a classic.
I think Minty is spying on me. I just rewatched Office Space randomly on cable yesterday and then Minty releases a “10 Things…” video the next day… (cue Spooky Music) 😂😂😂😂
Minty!!! Thank you for all of the hard work making these videos and giving me something to be excited about when I wake up. It’s been hard lately and any distraction is welcomed.
I worked for an IT company called Inacom when Office Space came out. Admittedly, I didn't hate my job but the similarities were uncanny. The name of the company, of course. We had a supervisor named John Wood who would walk around, making everyone feel uncomfortable and always had coffee with him and would set it down before going off on some story nobody wanted to hear. We had a guy named Horst that kind of reminded us of Milton. We lost about about 15 people to a competing company so when the stories of Office Space motivating many people to leave the jobs they were unhappy with, that was definitely the icing on the cake. Absolutely LOVE Office Space!
Gary Cole is a criminally underrated actor. He's played roles that are all over the place in terms of the character types and he does them all so well that when you see him in other movie you don't even recognize that he's the guy you saw in that other movie.
Surprised you didn't mention the sculpture outside the front door of the building. It's subtle, because the camera never dwells on it, but it's literally a square peg being driving into a round hole.
Mitty...Thank You! Thank you so much for chasing your passion! And you litterly have someone of millions on the other side of the globe enjoying your prospective and what you have to share. Keep doing what your doing...its good for you and its good for the word.
I recently learned that the printer they used was real and that "PC: Load Letter" is a actual message it displays. It means: Paper Change, Load Letter Size.
I've never laughed harder in a movie theater than I did with this movie. Specifically, the part where they take the fax machine to the empty field and beat the hell out of it.
I love Office Space. It is such a fun movie. But there is one element that I had trouble with. I worked on the Y2K issue along with many thousands of others, and it is simply not believable that any programmer, coder or analyst working on Y2K would be fired in 1999.
Funny, as you were describing the weather when they were filming in austin.....here in central texas...its currently hazy, humid and hot as in the movie lol
Another hypercool vid, mate !! I love that you're as at ease making commentary about aspects of the films you're covering as you are in bringing us the facts of how it got made...made even better by your being quite astute in these asides. It all makes your content informative, intelligent and witty. So, thanks for being...YOU !
During my second tour of Afghanistan i discovered this movie after several days of the same thing. Watching it daily for months changed my whole outlook on life. The message sunk in I was able to let things go. My whole outlook became more positive because i didn't harbor ill will or retain bad feelings. This movie will always be on my favorites list.
I live in Austin, and I used to work in an office overlooking the road from the opening. It's Burnet Rd. at MoPac. I literally sat in a cubicle looking at Office Space traffic all day, so this movie resonates deeply with me.
The whole story of the Red stapler is a cool story in itself. The fact that Swingline didn't make a red version, but after the movie it became their biggest selling stapler of all time.
Another little known fact: they wanted Milton’s stapler to be red, only swingline didn’t produce a red stapler so the prop department painted a black stapler red. Then when the movie became so wildly popular demand was so high that they started making red stapler’s.
I heard that too! I'm surprised Minty missed it!
A lady I work with has a red Swingline! It took me months to recognize it but I lost it when I finally saw it. She knew immediately what I was laughing at.
Then I did a very poor impression of Lundberg and asked her to work Saturday!
We both got a laugh from my brutally bad attempt!
I’ve been using my red swingline for almost 10 years. Bought it because I loved the movie and had heard that story!
Strange thing is, in Canada my mother had a red metal Swingline stapler from like the 60s or 70s, though it was smaller than Milton's.
The woman who owned my daughter's daycare had a red Swingline stapler even though she'd never seen Office Space - she bought it specifically so everybody would know it was the one from her desk. She used to joke that she had so many parents ask her if she was a fan that because of it that she desperately wanted to see it but kept missing it on TV.

Jennifer Aniston was the only good thing about the movie. Everyone else sucked.
Office Space became the framework for my career (life). I immediately stopped taking work seriously and immediately started getting promoted.
That happened to me while in the army. LOL.

One of my favorites is a lil Mike Judge movie called Idiocracy.
Actually saw this opening day in the theater at a midnight showing. Such a classic movie.
Raise the bar and others will follow. It allows them to feel comfortable. Many people have been ridiculed at times for over dressing
This happened to me at my second job... I got a apple watch and a week later everyone had the watch
Yeah, I live in south Texas a d it is hot as hell down here in the summer (which unofficially starts in May and ends maybe in October).
"It's not that i.m lazy it's that I just don't care.'
Stephen Root is one of the great American character actors. THERE IS NONE BETTER although there are other greats. Office Space had a great cast but Root was genius.
One of my all-time favorites!
Asking Michael Bolton to sign an Office Space DVD is a gag in itself 😂
Yup, gotta dig out my copy and watch this one tonight!🍻
I ordered the dvd from amazon several weeks ago,I may have to watch it soon too.
Same here! 💾
Office Space is my #1 fav movie. I even have a Initech coffee mug!
Yes! I do as well.
No offense, but I'd rather have the "Johnny" mug from WKRP in Cincinnati, with all the crossed-out last names. They have some generic coffee mugs with this printed on them, but not the same screen-used shape, unfortunately.
I received the Office Space Deluxe DVD box set, which I think came with the mug. Either way, I broke mine and am very sad about it.
I remember seeing Office Space at an advanced screening in Dallas about a week before it was released. The packed house loved it
The opening scene in traffic is so true.
When it was released on video everyone started talking about it.
That fax machine scene cracks me every time. Reminds me of a Goodfellas scene in a comedy. Classic!
Not that it matters, but as a point of clarification, the opening traffic scene is filmed in Dallas - specifically, the stretch of 635 between 75 and 35, a route I used to begrudgingly drive daily back in the day.
Yeah, Austin still doesn't have any highways that big (and boy, do we need them!)
That's correct, then it switched to Braker Lane in north Austin for the stop-and-go with the old walker guy.
What a way to start my Friday! Thanks Minty.
I remember watching the Office Space/ Milton shorts on MTV's Liquid Television. I miss that show
The following year, 1992, Beavis and Butt-Head made their first appearance as 2 shorts on Liquid Television.
@@dk50b Frog Baseball!
Mike Judge is a low key genius and someone that would be great to have beer with.
Do a “10 things” video on Liquid TV please.
Dogboy!
This and Falling Down are the two best documentary movies ever
also Idiocracy!
And Sin City and The Matrix..... also Jaws 3-D
@judgedrekk2981 No, that takes place in the future. That's a Spoiler!
Yes, I agree this and Falling Down. But the trilogy of documentaries starts with Clerks.
Minty! Love your videos brother. Find myself laughing out loud with every video. Always look forward to watching. Thank you!
I think that's why I love silicon valley so much. It felt kind of like an extension of the office.
Also, as I was going to business school when that movie came out EVERY business professor LOVED this movie...some with extreme passion at how accurate it was.
It still feels good to be a gansta
Office Space hit close to home. I was new into the "office" world at the time and it hit so many things about working for corporate just right. Funnily, or unfunnily, enough it's still so similar in corporate life. The advent of "open workspaces" arguably made it worse as now you really are cattle without even a little private space. This movie is a classic.
I think Minty is spying on me. I just rewatched Office Space randomly on cable yesterday and then Minty releases a “10 Things…” video the next day… (cue Spooky Music)
😂😂😂😂
Office Space is like a documentary and Idiocracy is becoming a reality.
Do you know the story of Crocs and Idiocracy? They wanted the goofiest shoes possible to be worn and now....people are actually wearing those lol
Surprised you didn't mention the sculpture outside the front door of the building. It's subtle, because the camera never dwells on it, but it's literally a square peg being driving into a round hole.
No way! Never noticed. Now I have to go back and see this.
Thanks!
One of the greatest movies ever made
Mandatory viewing for us who work in IT. Not to mention a dope soundtrack!
I watched Office Space originally due to nothing else being on Tv. Best accidental watch ever. One of my all time favs now. 😂
Ron Livingston’s “meh” presence perfectly embodied the mindset of the average office worker.
You're so right. The entire point is that office environments like that drain the life out of people.
Milton did actually keep getting a check, he was fired and never told. The Bob's fixed that and said it would just work itself out.
This was the first movie I went to without my folks. I'll never forget the whole audience losing it when the printer scene appeared.
Mitty...Thank You! Thank you so much for chasing your passion! And you litterly have someone of millions on the other side of the globe enjoying your prospective and what you have to share. Keep doing what your doing...its good for you and its good for the word.
Office Space is probably the most relatable movie I've ever seen.
The class ring Gary Cole wore was his Earthforce Academy ring he wore on the short lived Babylon 5 spinoff 'Crusade' where he played Captain Gideon.
I recently learned that the printer they used was real and that "PC: Load Letter" is a actual message it displays. It means: Paper Change, Load Letter Size.
Minty, you have never made a video that wasn't extremely entertaining. Thank you sir. And of course you did a great job with Office Space too.
Other youtubers: "Comment, like, and subscribe!"
Minty: *shows David Herman* "Damon Herman"
I've never laughed harder in a movie theater than I did with this movie. Specifically, the part where they take the fax machine to the empty field and beat the hell out of it.
I like the poster and I think the guy covered in post-it notes is supposed to be Milton.
I love Office Space. It is such a fun movie. But there is one element that I had trouble with. I worked on the Y2K issue along with many thousands of others, and it is simply not believable that any programmer, coder or analyst working on Y2K would be fired in 1999.
We didn't start getting laid off until 2001. I went from Y2K directly into network administration, so I was safe for a while.
I literally watched this a couple of days ago. Hvnt watched it in so long. You forget how funny and true it is.
Mike Judge is a national treasure :D
I live in Austin, and I used to work in an office overlooking the road from the opening. It's Burnet Rd. at MoPac. I literally sat in a cubicle looking at Office Space traffic all day, so this movie resonates deeply with me.
This movie is such a classic.
The whole story of the Red stapler is a cool story in itself. The fact that Swingline didn't make a red version, but after the movie it became their biggest selling stapler of all time.
The Michael Bolton thing reminds me of how Beavis and Butthead basically killed Winger by having Stuart wear a Winger shirt.
Another great video respect one of my favourite movies
