So my take is that I dont mind them nerfing things that are overpowered but to me the main concern is looking at the things people used as viable options at lower difficulty but are useless on higher difficulty like the gatling gun sentry or the LMG, while the argument could be made that they are weak at higher difficulty which is why you unlock them at lower levels can be made, the devs already said that they want all guns to be useful and all stratagems to be viable, except theses nerfs did none of that, they just made the good stuff weaker while the useless stuff stays useless. This will not change the META people that are turning the game toxic, they haven't fixed the problem they are have technically made it worse by making the actual viable options on higher difficulties less viable making the game harder while still having the same problem, no one is using anything else. They really should have done simple fixes such as LMG now has medium armour that could deal with a charger with a lot of shots and can also clear waves of bugs, while a rail gun is less shots and more for heavy armour shredding but is terrible at clearing bugs, that is balance patch not oh people use only this so we need to make it weaker so everything in the game is useless at higher difficulty. I still love the game and play it but sometimes I am confused at the lack of awareness from game devs.
I play on level 7 and 8. It's all still fine. People are just being babies imo. Pick up a spear, a flamethrower, 500kg bomb, orbital laser, orbital rail shot, grenade launcher. I'm really wondering if all these whiners have even tried out 1/5 of the tools in the game.
You make a great point, I also just think like the other guy but I play between 4 to 5 as i don’t have a proper squad nor am I level 15 yet but a flamethrower is viable for chargers now, not amazing but I like it, another weapon I believe is also pretty good but gets hate is the arc thrower, it goes through armor and chains between enemies, I’ve had a good experience with it but I have just used it away from other players so thats probably why, sorry if this seems more like a ramble about 2 weapons I like but I have had maybe 2 hours of sleep and just woke from that.
@@Grimm-Ghost the flamer is lit now, no pun intended. It kills chargers in less than 10 seconds which is pretty big for something that isn't a strategem and has 4 refillable mags. Ironically though I found it bad for hordes, it doesn't kill smaller enemies quick enough somehow. Even the little scavengers don't die instantly from it, it's odd. It's kinda slow too, so a lot of quick enemies can swarm you. But overall the flamer is quite good now
Every option is viable, cause every thing has different uses, low pen like lmgs, sentry, gatling etc. are good for hordes and non armored stuff and so on. People really exaggerate, wanna kill chargers?? Use auto cannon evade shoot legs take your time. Or try recoiless rifle with a team loader easy peasy. It is supposes to be a teambased game, not 4 jacks of all trades.
I'm an autocannon user mostly unaffected by the nerfs, and a creeksman who regularly runs on helldive difficulty. Nerfs are not the right way to go here. Everything lackluster should be buffed to compete, especially the primaries. This is something almost everyone agrees on. People didn't use the meta because they themselves were bad(not entirely at least), it's because not much other weapons were good enough in comparison.
The reason you listed is why it's bad in the first place. Because nothing else is good enough or on level with it means that people will always use it as default knowing that THAT weapon was so much better. Unless you're trying to argue that none of the weapons are good enough to be playable, then that's all to say. Buffing everything to compete just makes the game completely trivial, and it's of my opinion that people playing Helldive difficulty (I did too) often were carried just because of this state of the game. The Railcanon DID need to be nerfed, and it also has the same utility and capabilities it once had before, but with the damage nerf. Breaker nerf isn't that bad aswell, I run with the punisher most of the time already. Same stats.
That philosophy I don't think applies to this game. Helldivers design philosophy is having to solve dealing with enemies almost like a puzzle. Using the right tools for the job and having teammates cover problems you can't. Buffing everyrhing to the level of a weapon that was already able to deal with every situation fundamentally goes against the design philosophy of this game

Actually when we were having fun at the beginning we were saying cant wait to unlock stuff to be able to play harder modes. That was the fun. There was a goal. Why would a game need more than one level with the was you having fun at the beginning argument? If half the community is upset then the patch is a fail. I just enjoy running with new players I'm already at lvl 50. It's good to jump in and help new players to level up and just give helpful pointers. That's what the community is for.
My only concern is this: will the devs focus on giving us more options on how to play, by buffing what doesn't work, or will they try to 'balance' things out by nerfing the best options without giving us alternatives to fill the hole that those changes leave. If it's the former, then I can accept a nerf here or there. If it's the latter, and this is going to be a pattern.... that could hurt the health of the game in the long run. For example: most people aren't taking heavy armor suits because they don't actually protect all that much, so nerfing the suits that are popular would do nothing but limit options further. That's what I'm worried about. Either way, I can't wait to continue to fight for democracy, I just hope the devs will fight for us in the idea room.
Deep Rock will kick your ass on the hardest difficulties too. This game is called HELLdivers. You're supposed to feel like an expendable Astra Militarum soldier, not a Space Marine. While everyone else was apparently blowing through 10 chargers in three seconds on diff 9, I was playing solo on diff 7 and going super stealth until it devolved into hit and run. I still don't even have the Railgun or shield, and I only just tested the Breaker, but I've played more missions with the Scythe. People keep saying all of the other weapons are trash, but they really aren't. I do think chargers are a bit strong though for how numerous they are. Bugs reinforce a bit too quickly, making one botched stealth moment turn into a massive clusterfuck that almost never ends, and I've used smoke screens to try to help me disengage. And when you completely wipe, they call you back a bit too close to the fight you just got killed in, so you're likely to die several times in a row before you can stabilize. I guess the point is, balance isn't perfect right now, but overall the changes they made seemed to have good reasons to them, and hopefully future changes are just as well thought out.
Idk why devs allowed overspawning of enemies in the first place cause if you want this game to turn full on pve overspawing like in earth defense force then we definitely need weapons and equipment for it to fight them back....to which we don't....the only one we did was nerfed so they don't want it to be overpowered but allow the enemies to be so....maybe they want us to focus on stragems more often,but none of the stratagems can work well in the planets we want cause of orbital fluctuations stacking.....why is there a stack total of 300% cooldown increased for stratagems if the mechanic and gimmick for us to use glorified grenades anyway......like the devs want this game to be casual and friendly game of just shooting enemies that turns into earth defense force but we don't have weapons or abilities or vehicles like in earth defense force so i do not understand what the devs even want out of their game,playing on high level difficulties made me feel "i would rather play earth defense force",now i uninstalled helldivers to play earth defense force again instead until they realize that orbital fluctuations goes against the absolute core gameplay mechanic of helldivers

Because people who relied on the meta are Diablow players who want to solo everything. They fail to see Helldivers as a Cooperative game. And its best we call these people out because they're the ones who randomly kick players out of their lobbies for not using the meta. I've just completed a Difficulty 7 against bugs with a combo of Spear, Railgun, Flamethrower and Laser Cannon. And this team combo is very effective against Automatons. People just need to work as a team to accomplish their goals. The same logic applies in real life.

Democracy be praised! Ive never understood the whole meta thing. They litterly just updated the war, as it should. - Lore drop: The tyranids just evovled more plating and more teeth, but due to the increased amount of carapace, they are now more weak to heat indused damage. The automations just got better to shoot stuff faster and better to reinforce their exposed hinges. Makes much more sense and is crazy fun to imagine while blasting aliens
2:39 the problem is you have to put so mutch in to heavy. You can't play the game in higher difficulties. But they fix that with today patch. also the railgun is still good you just need a lot of practice.😊
people fail to realize that the point of the game isnt to be unkillable and 3 tapping chargers or bile titans, youre supposed to be an expendable resource making a dent in the name of democracy. All of the nerfed weapons are still very usable and useful, i didnt use the rail gun on safe mode anyway, and aside from needing a couple more shots to strip charger leg armor, it feels almost exacrly the same, the breaker is still great, the shield is still great. all thats changed is that its no longer the go to loadout or you get booted, and other weapons are more viable. people who are crying and saying its not fun anymore werent playing the game for fun anyway.
There's not meta yet because the patch was only 2 days ago, there wasn't meta either the first 2 days of release, the moment the community decides what are the news best weapons those will become the meta and you will get kicked for not using them
I see it like this Joel was a part of the balance team and nerf the weapons giving him problems for his army. Gamer are you going to let a dev beat you at the game they just make it you play and master it everyday. I think the main reason for the nerfs was to stop the toxic part of the community that made the game unplayable if you didn’t use the “correct” weapons. The nerfs are also hardly noticeable especially with the railgun.
Enemy Ai buff and rail gun nerf were the only Questionable things that were directly in the patch the game is still one of the best out there right now of it’s kind.
The nerfs are not even that big. Railgun is literally the same weapon if you put in unsafe mod. This only made clear to me that devs are right. Skill issue

I never take them seriously and I hate when people take them so serious that they’re constantly screaming at you or the screen while playing (my son when he was a hormonal monster teenager). I’ve been playing for a week so far. The first few matches made me feel super awesome and I was having fun. I was immersed into this new world. And the last few days, it got a little harder, and that’s ok. That’s how the world of Helldivers should be. That’s what makes those nice wins even sweeter. And when the devs nerfed the weapons and gave us a bit of a curve ball with the patch. It made me feel that it is up to us to adapt and try out new tactics just like you said. If this game was easy would it be as fun? This world gives you overwhelming odds at times. So when you lose, and go back at it again, you kinda know what unforgiving things are coming to you. And that’s what makes this game great. I get frustrated in some matches but you gotta remember, those Helldivers probably feel the same way too. But they keep on pushing because they are in a war on a galactic scale, and war is never fair. For freedom and democracy my fellow Helldivers!
Spot on mate, I think the shield, railgun, breaker, and light armour-wearing players didn't understand that if you move through slowly as a team and deal with each engagement as a team and stay together (This is Helldive difficulty) you will realise you won't get overrun by ten chargers, you won't have to kite around the map running into more and more patrols and more and more bug breaches/bot drops. The game is really well made to punish you for running off on your own as you run the risk of dying and losing your equipment as well as causing unnecessary enemies to spawn. I think the Nerfs are perfect to make this selfish play style more punishing and to promote more teamwork which is far more powerful than the shield/railgun/breaker so-called 'META' Which btw The anti-material rifle out performs the railgun against bots with its two headshot kills on hulks, and the flamer before the buff out performed the railgun against bugs as you could focus on one chargers leg and drop them faster as well as killing all the small enemies around them. I never opted for either the breaker or the railgun as I found better options for both races. And the shield nerfs are completely fine now that the armour works, if you take heavy armour with explosion resistance against the bots you can tank rockets pretty easily, if you then slap the shield on top of it, it almost makes Helldive difficulty boring. I hope these players invest the time to dig into the game and find out how fun it is so they can appreciate it like I do.
Dude laser cannons are op versus bugs I can clear entire waves with 1 charge They booted it auto cannon armor pen 5 Laser cannon armor pen 6 but has unlimited ammo It can break charger leg armor or crack it in hard mode making it so normal guns can penetrate it legs they booted the damage 3 times and gave it a armor pen of 6 and increase fire before it overheats by 2 times I can fire for a stright 2 minutes which allows me to solo chargers On ice planets the cool down time is less then 5 seconds meaning once the charger dead it can sweep deleting all bugs beside heavily armored bugs

My favourite weapon has been the first assault rifle from day one. Simple and works on everything.

They nerfed the high end meta anti Armour load out to make way for the usefulness of mech suits.

Man chose to speak facts. Everyone thats complaining about the ‘horrible nerfs’ are unwilling to go out and try any of the other options that have always been available. The buffs to the flamethrower & laser cannon are also pretty cracked ngl.

Democracy be praised! Ive never understood the whole meta thing. They litterly just updated the war, as it should. - Lore drop: The tyranids just evovled more plating and more teeth, but due to the increased amount of carapace, they are now more weak to heat indused damage. The automations just got better to shoot stuff faster and better to reinforce their exposed hinges. Makes much more sense and is crazy fun to imagine while blasting aliens
2:39 the problem is you have to put so mutch in to heavy. You can't play the game in higher difficulties. But they fix that with today patch. also the railgun is still good you just need a lot of practice.😊
people fail to realize that the point of the game isnt to be unkillable and 3 tapping chargers or bile titans, youre supposed to be an expendable resource making a dent in the name of democracy. All of the nerfed weapons are still very usable and useful, i didnt use the rail gun on safe mode anyway, and aside from needing a couple more shots to strip charger leg armor, it feels almost exacrly the same, the breaker is still great, the shield is still great. all thats changed is that its no longer the go to loadout or you get booted, and other weapons are more viable. people who are crying and saying its not fun anymore werent playing the game for fun anyway.
There's not meta yet because the patch was only 2 days ago, there wasn't meta either the first 2 days of release, the moment the community decides what are the news best weapons those will become the meta and you will get kicked for not using them
I see it like this Joel was a part of the balance team and nerf the weapons giving him problems for his army.
Gamer are you going to let a dev beat you at the game they just make it you play and master it everyday.

Only the top difficulties are unplayable due to the sheer amount of heavily armored enemies. Deva said earlier they were gonna fix that
I think the main reason for the nerfs was to stop the toxic part of the community that made the game unplayable if you didn’t use the “correct” weapons. The nerfs are also hardly noticeable especially with the railgun.
Enemy Ai buff and rail gun nerf were the only Questionable things that were directly in the patch the game is still one of the best out there right now of it’s kind.

The nerfs are not even that big. Railgun is literally the same weapon if you put in unsafe mod. This only made clear to me that devs are right. Skill issue
I don’t agree with you. Just kidding! I actually agree with everything that you said. To me video games, are still games. I never take them seriously and I hate when people take them so serious that they’re constantly screaming at you or the screen while playing (my son when he was a hormonal monster teenager). Helldivers 2 is going to be constantly evolving and if people can’t evolve with the game, they probably aren’t evolving in life either.

I’ve been playing for a week so far. The first few matches made me feel super awesome and I was having fun. I was immersed into this new world. And the last few days, it got a little harder, and that’s ok. That’s how the world of Helldivers should be. That’s what makes those nice wins even sweeter. And when the devs nerfed the weapons and gave us a bit of a curve ball with the patch. It made me feel that it is up to us to adapt and try out new tactics just like you said. If this game was easy would it be as fun? This world gives you overwhelming odds at times. So when you lose, and go back at it again, you kinda know what unforgiving things are coming to you. And that’s what makes this game great. I get frustrated in some matches but you gotta remember, those Helldivers probably feel the same way too. But they keep on pushing because they are in a war on a galactic scale, and war is never fair. For freedom and democracy my fellow Helldivers!
Spot on mate, I think the shield, railgun, breaker, and light armour-wearing players didn't understand that if you move through slowly as a team and deal with each engagement as a team and stay together (This is Helldive difficulty) you will realise you won't get overrun by ten chargers, you won't have to kite around the map running into more and more patrols and more and more bug breaches/bot drops.
The game is really well made to punish you for running off on your own as you run the risk of dying and losing your equipment as well as causing unnecessary enemies to spawn. I think the Nerfs are perfect to make this selfish play style more punishing and to promote more teamwork which is far more powerful than the shield/railgun/breaker so-called 'META'
Which btw The anti-material rifle out performs the railgun against bots with its two headshot kills on hulks, and the flamer before the buff out performed the railgun against bugs as you could focus on one chargers leg and drop them faster as well as killing all the small enemies around them. I never opted for either the breaker or the railgun as I found better options for both races. And the shield nerfs are completely fine now that the armour works, if you take heavy armour with explosion resistance against the bots you can tank rockets pretty easily, if you then slap the shield on top of it, it almost makes Helldive difficulty boring.
I hope these players invest the time to dig into the game and find out how fun it is so they can appreciate it like I do.

Dude laser cannons are op versus bugs I can clear entire waves with 1 charge
They booted it
auto cannon armor pen 5
Laser cannon armor pen 6 but has unlimited ammo
It can break charger leg armor or crack it in hard mode making it so normal guns can penetrate it legs
they booted the damage 3 times and gave it a armor pen of 6 and increase fire before it overheats by 2 times I can fire for a stright 2 minutes which allows me to solo chargers
On ice planets the cool down time is less then 5 seconds meaning once the charger dead it can sweep deleting all bugs beside heavily armored bugs
In my opinion, all of the laser weapons would be more interesting if they had low AP below half heat, and then increased in AP above half heat.
Respect your opinion bro, but weapons should all be made viable: the good weapons shouldn’t be wrecked for the sake of making them like the other trash. Nice buffs to flame thrower and barrages tho 🔥🔥🔥

Honestly the only thing to me that's changed, was the railgun isn't as good...oh well one more shot than normal for me, and honestly the Nerf hasn't changed the game for me at all and I use the old meta in suicide
