As a gen 5 enjoyer, i can say gen 7 was a very close gen talking about how good it was. The creativity and the effort put into those game are noticeable and appreciated.

Gen 7 rocks and the controversy it received was because of salty people who didn’t like the switch to new gen friendly (they’re kid friendlier games to reach a wide audience) They had new animations for character, better customization, hm removal, a heavier story line, a darker sub plot for adults, mini games scattered everywhere, probably the BEST designs for a generation ever, introduced the first legend to evolve, introduced new gimmicks, and paved the way to getting an open world game

The Ultra Necrozma battle theme, combined with the atmosphere of the fight (and the difficulty when I tried it legit instead of cheesing), made me absolutely fall in love with the thing. Necrozma is now one of my favorite Pokemon and I will not apologize for it. Also, Gladion is (second) best boy. Fight me.
I also grew up with gen 7, and while I can’t remember some of the songs immediately, i.e. where they played, it still hits different. And also Dusk Mane Dawn Wings Necrosma theme is one of the coolest songs to me
I’m calling it: give it a few more years or so, and Gen 7 will be the new Gen 5: a totally underrated generation that the entire fandom seems to hate , until the people who played it when they were kids (14yr olds now) grow up and go to college and get a job and realize, “damn those games were good” When that happens I’ll be here to welcome the boys home: excellent soundtrack, vibrant characters, unique Pokémon design/concepts, and the MOST BEAUTIFUL region in the entire series Gen 7 is excellent through and through. I’ve always been a fan and I’m just waiting for the community to catch up

It genuinely feels like the perfect send off for not only the 3DS era, but the handheld era as a whole. Plus, it came out when I was 9 and I got Sun for Christmas that same year, so I'm obviously biased, but my god do I adore the Alola region
Easiest way I found to beat Ultra Necrozma was with a Zeroark disguised as a fighting type, use a Roto Boost or two as it tries to use Photon crud and just wail on it. Battle usually lasts 3-5 turns
Even in the land of cutscenes, i truly think gen 7 is my favorite modern game. I love the aliens, traveling through dimensions, the whole astral theme in general, the more traditional approach to stepping stones in your journey, and of course the nuke making necrozma. Edit: cant forget guzma, i did but *you* cant
It added a lot of new quality of life changes and went had different changes that for a lot of the "Genwunners" kind of players really didn't like. Heavier presence of a story as well as a darker one, changing the whole gym leader thing with Totems and Kahunas up until you get the Elite 4 and Champion fight, really tough Totem Pokemon to replace Gym Leaders (Kalos Gym Leaders were cake walks, ORAS stayed pretty faithful to the original RS/Emerald teams and were maybe a little easier because of Experience Share, getting a chance to use two Legendaries in the game, etc). Rotom for people was especially annoying af in USUM. For people who play Pokemon for gameplay, its like the Gen 5 of the 3DS generation, while for people who love Pokemon and the universe of it, its an absolute treat. SM to me is more engaging, terrifying and more relarable than the traditional "stop middle aged guy from ending/taking over the world and being delusional " that was done over and over again for six generations straight.
2:07 I know it was supposed to be a difficult fight... but uh... I used a Focus Sash on a Salazzle, hit Necrozma with Toxic, and he fainted to poison before one-shotting my entire team. (UM is my first ever official pokémon and I just finished the main story like two days ago, so I have no idea what I was doing xd)
All of this cool and fun music, then your suddenly punched in the face by the distorted theme in Guzzlord's realm showing a desolate in destroyed version of Hau'oli City.
Little fun tidbit, Gladion's theme takes part of itself from the track "Run Away" from Pokemon Red/Blue Rescue Team. It's a connection I didn't make for years despite playing both games so religiously, more so Blue Rescue Team. Perfect choice of reference if I'm being completely honest it hits all the more
It is *criminal* that the Skull admin theme wasn’t in this video, or even just the grunt theme. Now that I’m thinking about it… all of Team Skulls music is amamzing

I miss the alola region I hope we go back to it someday maybe after the gen 5 remake (if there is one and it’s good) then they’ll make remasters since gen 6 and 7 are 3D and re release them in better quality

I never played Ultra Sun and Moon so I don't get most of the buzz about that battle. Just Sun and Moon. Beat it twice. Even bought Ultra Moon for my nephew. Didn't think it had a badass final battle that I needed to do.
Generation 7 is one of my favorites because they tried to do something new with the game and at times it feels like a genuine challenge. Plus, the music is fantastic. And it is the generation that gave us a boss battle aka Ultra Necrozma. And the best god of them all; Rowlet.
Ultra Necroza scared me almost to death the first time i saw it, with its theme being an absolute banger. The fight didnt live the hype tho, since i sent a Zoroark disguised as a fighting type mon. I remembered Necrozma being psychic, but i didnt know he woule only use his only Psychic move all the time... Only to have no effect on my disguised Zoroark. All that build up, for nothing. Rip
Ultra necrosma theme hits WAY harder than it should omg I love it so much. I remember being a dumb kid and using my level 70-90 Zoroark (overleveled compared to the rest of my team) to defeat it
