I think the blue wire is the ptt line for the yellow relay on the amp board.
Cool simple clean mod. The factory could have easily implemented a switch like you did to turn the amp on and off.
Yes they do draw a lot of current.

Very cool radio. Always enjoy these videos old or new. Lots of great information. 390 I have a President AR-144. I got a great deal last year on eBay. I have been trying to find a schematic on the 144 No luck so far. The 144 was tuned up to the max and the red wire off the mic jack was snipped. I need to turn the power down to 2 watts for the kicker and I think the snipped red wire did away with the audio block??????. Anybody knows the correct way to turn the power down It would be helpful. 73s from NY202
I have not looked at a 144, however I would search for information by using the PC Board number. It may have a sibling radio and you could use that info. Good luck.
