    Thank you so very much for letting us hear more of each CB radio's sound while people are talking and scanning theough the channels. I've noticed that you have done that more and more, including the DAK video and it's much appreciated. The sound of the speaker, the clicking of the knobs, all of that aids in the decision to purchase a radio or not. A real test drive. Thx again.

    I run this radio all the time, main radio while I’m at home. Works awesome as do all those you have done up. The only issue is it’s a Galaxy mobile, so while not in use, it drifts, no clock either lol lol lol. But when using keeps frequency. The ears on this radio now is awesome!!!!! Thanks Mike

    I think the heat sink on the back is used on their 93T and 95T. The 95T doesn't need it due to the PA being in the case below the radio, but the 93T has a 2SC2290 Final in the back of the radio. It has the same heat sink with two fans on it to keep the Toshiba pill cool. I have a 93T in like new condition and I love that radio. They are getting collectible now.

    Hi Mike, love your videos. I used to repair CB's years ago but got out of it and went on to explore other things. Since the kids are grown and gone and I have more money and room in the house I am starting to put a part-time repair shop together also I would like to try my hand at a couple of those channel king expansion boards. but not sure who to contact about that. and I have a couple of questions about some test equipment if and when you get some time. Thanks a bunch for all you do

    These are sought after radios and bring a high price used. One in this condition sells for about $450 to $650. I really like the 95t2 and would love to have one.

    When I played with CB many years ago I just used real amateur gear instead of trashy splatter box radios and class C garbage amplifiers. My last decent CB station was a heavily modified Tempo One driving an FL2100B into an original Avanti Astrobeam at about 55 ft. The modifications I'm referring to were done by a very close friend who is a brilliant electronics tech, not some CB hack. He devised a way to make the Tempo talk on AM like an FT 101 by building his own design solid state modulator circuit that he rigged to plate modulate the predriver tube of the radio. It was a brilliant way to get beautiful AM audio from a rig that was never designed to make great AM. On SSB, it was a beast as well. I worked the planet with that rig many times over. That set up was nothing special and it ran rings around every normal CB I tried...and in my 20+ years playing on 11 meters...I tried or had them all back in the day. I even worked in a CB shop...one of my first jobs.

    If one's buying an "11 meter black box CB transceiver" because they exceed FCC's output limits of 5 watts my suggestion would be to get yourself a uniden 980, and an amplifier. Although I perfer vintage gear I wouldn't have a problem buying a brand new 980. I've yet to hear an (unmolested) out of the box 980 that imo doesn't sound terrific. Weather on AM or SSB.. I've heard so many of them over the past few years, and I have yet to hear a bad one with the exception of ones that have been golden screwdrivered to death. And from the posts I read pertaining to the 980's receive they're great hearing radios. In my opinion these black box "CB radios" are junk. Just one man's $0.02. Thanks for the clip Mike.

      So a Uniden 980 Bearcat SSB CB radio bone stock unmolested would be the way to go?

    • @zooyawk4526
      @zooyawk4526 6 лет назад

      @@k.c.lejeune6613
      Yep. If you need or want more than 40 channels that modification is now available. It's been available for a while, but did take some good technicians with the knowledge to figure out how to exactly to that modification. I'm sure there are plenty of other modifications available for the Uniden 980, but in my opinion stock is the way to go. Just watching Mike's clip and hearing him mention that he doesn't like the export radios with built-in amplifier is something I myself believe in. If you need or want more wattage get yourself an external amplifier. These exports inevitably wind up sounding horrible. A Uniden 980 with the channel modification, and 100 through 500 watt amplifier weather it's going to be used as a mobile or base or both is definitely the way to go. I said it in my reply to Mike's clip, and I'll say it again. The unit did 980 is a terrific sounding transceiver. It sounds better than most if not all of the export radios I've ever heard. Also keep in mind that those export radios no matter what brand name is on the faceplate are with few exceptions exactly the same chassis. Another word of advice would be don't buy a used one. Buy a brand new Uniden 980, and you're good to go. If you need an amplifier for the mobile or base go with a Texas Star 350 or 500 DX. Good luck.

      @@zooyawk4526 Thanks brother, I'm going to be looking into that 980 for sure. I've always loved Galaxy radios but I'm not interested in these black box splatter box non-FCC certified radios, just a quality FCC certified SSB radio that is bone stock, no hacking. Thanks for the info!

    • @buckaroobonsi555
      @buckaroobonsi555 6 лет назад +3

      Maybe but that would just add to a landfill. Throwing things away and buying new is not a sustainable model for the future. Also the DX95T is not a cheap radio and few chassis have Toshiba 2290's or 2879's in them today. The ones that have Chinese bjt's are in the $600-$799 price range. On top of that most of radio's today are cheaply built with very cheap parts so you can not buy a radio today that does what it is meant to do as well as some of the older Upd858 chassis radio's or cybernet radio's. In fact there is not a single type ratted FCC approve CB on the market that is new and can do what the radio's I mentioned above can do. Also if you wanted to make them work on 10m as a Ham radio you could not easily do it but with older radio's it was super easy.
      I would never buy a new CB radio by choice they are junk. Since I talk 98% on SSB this is especially true. Why would anyone spend $169 to $240 for a President McKinley when it is not as good as a 1990's Grant XL or 148 GTL or late 1970's uPD858 or Cybernet radio?We are talking selectivity, adjacent channel rejection, audio quality, ease of use, build quality etc.....I will not buy any CB or Export radio that forces me to use a deep menu system to work controls that should have a button or switch on the front of the radio! I also will not buy a radio that has gimmicky nonsense like talk back, echo, user selectable light colors that just ruled out 95% of what is currently on the market and new! If you look at old tube type CB radio's some of them have giant full audio that again can not be had in a modern radio with out a lot of modification and often you need a lot of gear to do it correctly and know that it is done correctly.
      Last but not least is tactile feel of the controls. Old radio feel like legitimate electronics. Modern radio feel like a infant and toddler toys very cheap and little feedback. The feedback you do get screams "this will brake any time now at random". A lot of the encoders wobble off axis and give almost no feedback and are very lose and sloppy feeling.
      Currently a lot of radio are non-repairable because they do not use readily available bulk parts and the controls face plate is all digital. So instead of just being able to replace a pot or a switch you have to find the IC, controller or cpu that was used which is often impossible. Often in radio's like the Stryker they have had many revisions so even attempting to by an abused unit or non-working unit for parts is not a solution since you have to know in advance what revision you have and what revision the unit you are hoping to buy off the internet has. As I understand it the Stryker 955 has had a lot of revision and the IC used on the main pcb and the control pcb have been changed many times and are not compatible with other revisions. So even just a few years latter any attempt to repair them is useless.
      So the more often you buy a new radio the more trapped by the design you become actually forcing you to throw it away and replace it. Every time you do that dance it hurts the consumer, it hurts what little domestic manufacturing we have left and it hurts the hobby. Oh and if everyone tossed their old radio's away and bought new ones from a big box store near you Mike would go hungry and I am pretty sure he likes food, water, heat, gasoline and the like and all of that takes money! We trade money for goods and services. Also what do we do when their are no more electronic repair technicians? What do we do when the automotive industry goes that way and it is cheaper to buy a new car than it is to repair it? We need to have some people that are able to fix and repair things not just pitch them int he trash and buy a new one.
      So really throwing something away and buying a new one often creates more problems than it solves! That is the lesson America has failed to learn yet!

      I agree with most of this, these are great radios. They do make some good radios still, but they are expensive and I love the older radios of the 1990's , so why get rid of it. When you find one in good to great condition I would fix it.
