@5:30 -- "oh, this isn't the model I thought it was." John reveals the most frequently uttered phrase by Mandrakes players and their opponents for the next two months.
At 23:23, you cant use Shadow's Bite Tactical Ploy to act as the Attacker because the ploy states that the enemy operative has to charge and then fight the Mandrake operative
A poisoned objective will cause D3 MW when you step on it aswell as poisoning the operative for D3 during the ready operative step next turn, wouldnt of made a difference here but worth noting! 🙏🏻 Good to see both sides in action
21:30 the re-rolls on a less than starting wound model works in conjunction with the D3 MWs on charge as it's "Less than starting strength at the beginning of the combat"
OK guys, am I the strange one who is going to paint Mandrakes with different hair and pants color? I am not saying that absence of ElfSpectre bun is telling but still.
17:12 You're misreading, the admittedly confusing wording, on Pareidolic Projection. It lasts until the start of the Dirgemaw's next activation, not the activation of the target. It's not senescence tokens, it's Prescience tokens; they're not representations of the Nightlords getting dodgy knees and making old-man noises every time they sit down. That's just what I do now :( EDIT: Also, you missed your second chance to use the Oubliex on the Leader, it only goes away if successful
Looks like Balefire works a bit different: the token lasts until the caster's next activation, and if the token is on an enemy - that enemy gets increased damage against them; on friendly - friendly takes less damage
Thanks! I could! It's just black, pro acryl dark blue grey, then that mixed with light blue grey and then a wash of thinned black templar. All via airbrush for the skin (:
enjoyed your report! ordered the box, so curious about how these teams play (leaning towards the Edge Lords a bit more, but may give Mandrakes a try too). have some questions about the rules though, as I'm still learning: 1. for "in shadow" ability, it specifically says that the heavy part of terrain can't be below you - but then something like Sneaky Git would still work, putting him ON the heavy terrain's vantage point for example? with it being within 1 inch below him. just making sure I'm playing this right. 2. for the plasma guy (as example) - would it be legal to place him safely close behind the gantry, then activate - climb up - shoot - dash down (2 inch vert + 1 inch horiz)? may limit what he can see from that ledge, but still he's quite safe from return fire. 3. not really a question, more like a hindsight observation - I thought at the 2nd TP for the toxic guy it would've been a good play to move - dash - hit three Mandrakes with his poisoned grenade, possibly crippling/poisoning them... should be enough movement for him to see behind the waves. even if he will basically die afterwards, do you think that's potentially a good exchange?
1) doesn't work that way like sneaky git unless the heavy terrain has another heavy piece on it like my maps do 2) Yup! As long as his 32mm base is no more than an inch on the ledge 3) Maybe but it would have relied on rolling crits
Very cool battle report! Can't wait to play Night Lords! One question: at 16:40, because Night Lords skipped activating an operative there were already two consecutive mandrake activations. Wouldn't the new Core Rule that prevents more than two consecutive activations apply when trying to interrupt and force activate before the Screecher? I don't know the exact wording of the mandrake and night lords rules so I'm not sure how they interact.
Have you guys considered securing your terrain with a bit of blue tack? It would probably help lessen the amount of jostling and subsequent readjusting
Very cool batrep! On 26:45 when you move just outside 1" of the barricade you would not be in cover right? Since engagement range is from tip of the base and cover lines are to every point
With Shadows Bite, do you pay and select to be the attacker before the dice are rolled, or after? My reading of it is you can chose after you have been chosen to the fought, but before the roll.
Doublecheck how you played the balefire token. I think it was explained incorrectly. The token only offers -1 damage when on a friendly operative. When on an enemy operative it adds +1 damage and no cover when targeting that operative. Otherwise thanks for doing this it was entertaining
@@CanYouRollaCrit yeah it was awesome. I already played Nightlord with my Gaunts Ghost but I was really interested about Mandrakes :D How you like them?
Mandrakes appear overhyped. I understand the hype for their abilities but not holistically. The chassis is weak and the supplementary APL is difficult to obtain at best. I get the BD argument lacking heavy terrain but Mandrakes never looked like winning and NC rolled horribly at several key engagements. Good opponents who understand positioning relative to terrain are going to tear through them. Map dependent they’re strong but talk of them being S or A+ looks off given who they need to be consistently beating to hold their ground there.
If we weren't on Bheta Decima, it would have been way closer. I actually couldn't use most of my abilities due to not being able to get from shadow off. If it were open Mandrakes likely would have won, especially on ITD. BD is just a bad killzone. I mainly lost because there was no way for the Mandrakes to get more than 1 objective TP1

I can see the future 😂😭

Oooh I knew I missed that aha, thanks!
super exciting expansion, terrifying in all of its glory. both thematically and rules wise O.O
Yeah it's very...deep 😅

It's a good way to tell them apart haha

Omg what?? That makes the leader bonkers
@@CanYouRollaCrit Oh its true! Oubliex stay active until used. Damn
Charles did a wonderful job with those mk3 bodies
I painted them haha
Nice one Charles!
Looks like Balefire works a bit different: the token lasts until the caster's next activation, and if the token is on an enemy - that enemy gets increased damage against them; on friendly - friendly takes less damage
Also, if a Cover line drawn to it crosses horizontally over
4" of a hazardous area the target is not visible. So all cover lines should be under 4"
I love the color scheme on the mandrakes! Are there any hopes on a tutorial on how these were painted?
Thanks! I could! It's just black, pro acryl dark blue grey, then that mixed with light blue grey and then a wash of thinned black templar. All via airbrush for the skin (:
Thoughts on which loadout to run for the Nemesis Claw leader? Is the plasma worth the power fist/mace tradeoff?
Plasma usually but still have fist on the roster

These two teams are awesome, I can not wait to see more and fight others especially farstalker kill band. I am so curious.
They are! Should be doing more soon (:
Good batrep! May I ask, where did you get the tokens you used for each operative? I would like to get some myself!
Thanks! Got them from Buy the Same Token (:
Fun battle, both teams have so many little tricks going on. Gonna be awhile before I understand either team hah
Yeah! Even hard for me to learn haha
Who should get Grizzly trophy in your opinion? I still dont know for sure.
I like Skinthief but people put it on the leader too
Balefire token lasts until _this_ ops next activation, meaning the Abyssal
Yeah got it mixed up with the Dirgemaster 😅
Very cool battle report! Can't wait to play Night Lords!

I don't think it would tbh but deffo needs an FAQ
You aren't preventing the other player from getting an activation, they chose to not activate?
Have you guys considered securing your terrain with a bit of blue tack? It would probably help lessen the amount of jostling and subsequent readjusting
We did for the little pillars but they still fell over 😭
Nice report, thanks guys. John, is this how you would run the Night Lords generally? Are the extra bolter boys in the box just a bonus?
Yup pretty much! Only take a gunner!
I thought the mandrake leaders husk blade has stun?
Yeah it does but I probably forgot lol
Very cool batrep!
On 26:45 when you move just outside 1" of the barricade you would not be in cover right? Since engagement range is from tip of the base and cover lines are to every point
Thanks! Outside 1 from the edge of the barricade so in cover from the inside side if that makes sense aha
@@CanYouRollaCrit Yeah makes sense! And since nightlord base is 32mm it would struggle to fit there. Very cool trick 👏
Just some tournament tactics haha 👀
With Shadows Bite, do you pay and select to be the attacker before the dice are rolled, or after? My reading of it is you can chose after you have been chosen to the fought, but before the roll.
Yeah I think I miss-timed it but still would have played it before dice are rolled
Isn't Obliax only deactivated after a successful throw?
Yeah only realised that now 😅
Loving that Alpha Legion Night Lord scheme! What was the idea there?
My Legionary are Horus Heresy Alpha Legion (:
My friends and i really want to play but its impossible to find 😂
Yeah hoping for more stock soon 😅

Oh yeah my bad I completely misread it haha
Souls versus skins. Let's GOOO
It's an extreme matchup
Great battle report, guys. Question: which weapon is better for the Nemesis Claw Gunner: the plasma gun or the meltagun?
Thanks! Plasma imo, need that long range threat
Great bat rep. Honestly echo your opinion on bd. Its a boring kill zone.
Yeah, boring and hurts so many teams
@@CanYouRollaCrit I'd like to see a rematch on a different zone. Not too many Mandrake/NL batreps out there yet
I'll probably do them but with different opponents in the future 😅
nice
Very nice
First and lets watch! :D
Thanks for video John :)
Haha thanks, hope you like it!
