- In this weeks video, I'll share the highest paid Museum Careers. Working in a museum can be really rewarding and pay well! Many people assume museum jobs do not offer sufficient pay and while this is true sometimes, it is not always the case. Here are some great career ideas to get you started!
Who am I? My name is Alivia Brown and I am a recent UCLA Anthropology graduate on a mission to find a career that I love. My major does not have a straight forward "path" as many would say and I am not only determined to prove that I can be successful in my major but also demonstrate my ability to find a career that brings me joy. This is my journey to expanding my global and anthropological knowledge. This is my journey to finding the best career I can. This is my journey to finding happiness. This is my journey to success.

If you would like to help me connect with other Anthropology students, I would love it if you would like and subscribe! It goes a long way and I am hoping to create the best possible Anthropology community. Thank you and stay safe out there!
1. Curator. 2. Archivist. 3. Exhibition Director (external). 4. Museum Director (internal).
I’m a 4th year history major undergrad at CSUF, and I just applied to be a paid intern this summer at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles. Wish me luck, your videos are helping a lot!!
Oh wow, that's wonderful!! Rooting for you, you got this!
Hello, kris.... Which course are you studying. Iam a history student from india. I want to study Masters in UK.... I want to know about the scope of history courses... If u know anything about the scope of courses, plz rply
I’m an English Major at a community college. When I transfer to a 4 year, I hope to do this as well ❤
to all the folks trying to get into the museum field: unless your family is affluent enough to sustain you, or have connections within the field, better think thrice before joining this field....the forever low or even no pay, and almost zero chance of getting a promotion is frustrating to say the least
Why
@@sdkj24jay41 it's just that the museum industry is not a necessity compare to other industry like medical industry etc., resulting in a limited demand in human resources. plus there are just way too many liberal arts/ humanities graduates who want to get into the museum industry, the industry cannot simply take in that amount of labor supply. this simply results in the general norm of tons of people trying to get the same job(often time with shitty pay grade). if you don't trust me, you can just google the salary range of museum workers. a lot of the museum workers left the field because of the low pay. on top of that, museums in general just cost loads of money to run, while unable to generate enough income to sustain themselves. most of the time, the museums require gov funding/ donations to keep them going. so, the top of the food chain(museum directors/ boards) are almost always struggling to keep things together, while the junior workers are struggling to break into the industry. this is just a structural problem of the industry. i, myself, have been through it, so it's better to give it a second thought before you join the museum industry.
What’s your position?
Thank you for bringing this perspective to the table, the financial constraints of this industry is something I am wrestling with in my last year of uni.
@@JaieElizabeth i worked as curatorial assistant, collection management supervisor and assistant curator at some point, but i have left the industry due to financial reasons
Definitely love this type of videos! More videos on careers for anthropologists please. Especially those that involve a lot of research :D Thank you 🙏
Of course! I have some others if you have not seen them yet :) But yes, more to come!
your channel is so niche but i love it thanks for making so many informative videos! y
you're like my anthropology big sister
Aw this is so sweet!! And ikr it’s so niche 😂
I'm going back to school soon to get a master's degree in museum studies. All of these jobs look really interesting and I can see myself in those roles... except for Exhibition Director; I used to work in Marketing and I'm never going back to that.
Hello!! Could you share the name of the uni you're studying please? I'm currently looking for programs for next year

thank you I needed this video!! I want to work in a museum so badddd
Of course!! And right? Museums are great! I have another video on my experience working in a museum as well if that would help you out at all!
I like how you said that you have to break your down your description for the average Joe or the average Karen to understand. That's what I try to do on my videos. A lot of other historians or people that do research either give such a concise narrow perspective of a particular topic just to push one point and not understanding the full context. It's hard but it's possible, plus insightful and necessary for those that are hungry for knowledge
Exactly! It is very important we explain things in a way that is accessible and easy to understand so everyone can enjoy the information.
@@AliviaBrown that's why you're awesome
@@AliviaBrown since people sound so scripted with overloads of facts with no descriptions that you'd have to be a student of it to understand, but I guess people feel good being like that. Haha
Hi, Alivia, and thank you for this post. I'm interested in post-retirement work in a museum if you ever have a chance to discuss positions of that sort.
Great question! I'm not sure in this moment but I'll def do some more research on it
Loved watching this!! So informative
Thank you for your videos! Your presentation of Anthropology is awesome. For me, who have started to be interested in this field recently and have many troubles with understanding academic English, your channel is a treasure.
Of course!! I am so happy to hear this and know that my videos are helping
Great information thanks for your hard work
Of course!
Thank you for this excellent video. Learnt a lot! Could you please introduce the job and pay as an art conservator in museums? Thanks!
I’m a recent grad and majored in communications and am really interested in working at a museum or art gallery. Can you please give me any advice in how to get my foot in the door at any of the two places? Unfortunately since I still had no idea what I wanted to major in I chose communications because it is versatile and didn’t do any museum internships which I regret. But any advice is much appreciated. ☺️
Nice. Pl .show some pics of museum display patern, etc.
Hi! What do you mean by this? Thanks!
Hi. I mean display of objects, lighting, captions, etc
I’m a third year undergraduate student studying journalism, is it obscure to want to pursue an M.A. in History to open up the possibility of Museum work?
may you please do a part 2?
Would love to 😍
I loved going to the Getty when I was in L.A. but that most likely requires years of training. I recently worked at a mobile Van Gough exhibit (there were no actual Van Gough works but it was based on his artwork) and there was an effectual nature to the exhibit.
I love the Getty museum too, it is beautiful. And I have heard about that exhibit before! I hope you enjoyed it
@@AliviaBrown It really made me think of art as an experience, not just media that viewed.
I love that!
