This was such a good video! Subbed! I really enjoyed it and found it so informative. I would be so appreciative if you could do a video on art and entertainment lawyers. It’s kind of a niche field but covers soo many different aspects of the law. It attracts a lot of creative people like myself who are looking for financial stability they feel they can’t get doing actual creative work. Would love to know what their day to day is like, how to break into the field, and if you can find creative fulfillment by working alongside artists like Natalie here “as a midwife” to their ideas. If you just love art and you have a vision for it that would be an interesting career indeed , but what caught my attention is ''giving people a reason to care'' in my opinion that shouldn't be the case , i think giving people you're own opinion and your own conclusion about an idea or a story behind a peice of art is what could drive discussions and sharing points of views, only then the true artistic and historical value shall be measured , that can also be the case for modern art galleries , i've enjoyed learning about this job , thank you for sharing and good luck to Natalie in her career
Thank you so much for sharing this insightful video about curators and their world. And also for providing a reader/listener like me a venue to share my thoughts. I love books. Of whatever branch of human inquiry. I love collecting knowledge. Of all the loves that I have, outside of my family, I love exchanging ideas the most. Would you agree that one of life's greatest pleasures is having an insightful conversation, an engaging exchange of ideas with someone? And one of life's worst misfortunes is the absence of such. Poverty is not the lack of money, nor wealth, the abundance of it. It is the lack of engaging friends that makes us poor. And sad. To walk the halls of wisdom, and never have someone with you to engage with, to cross intellectual swords with... walking in those halls alone, ... that is truly a misfortune. So, I guess my love for collecting books is actually, my poor way of satisfying my ardent desire to have someone to cross ideas with. This video taught me something else. If curating is also about helping artists bring their ideas to life, even if it is not always easy, then writing book reviews could also be a way of engaging with others. @Sam Steffen, similar situation. From what I have learned in the past couple of months a bachelors is a good starting point. However, a masters is usually preferred. But I plan on using my bachelors just to start.
Nice overview but be careful. There are thousands of highly educated PhD art historians out there who are desperate for a college or museum job. These Phd types are highly skilled, they know multiple languages they have extensive backgrounds in the arts, art history, culture, and socio-economic analysis etc. I would suggest just getting a standard business job, 9 to 5, good salary, good benefits, paid vacation, retirement plan, maybe a pension, and pursue your art activities on the side as an avocation. With a basic business job, of which there are many millions available, you can use your your decent salary of 60k or 80k per year to buy a house, to fund your retirement plan, and to take numerous trips around the country and around the world for your art history endeavors. Good luck to all of you !! PS: There are so many millions of simple business jobs, many are filled be art history/music/lit/sociology types, these workers don't worry about the massive business layoffs.
