So I started my anthropology degree 16 years ago and dropped out. Now I'm 44 years old and returning to college. It seemed logical to get a more practical business degree, but thanks to Alivia and her inspiring videos, I'm returning to my passion and am finishing my Anthropology degree. Why? Because this is my only life. Thanks Alivia, for reminding me who I am.
I currently have two undergrads that are assisting me with research. They've been co-authors on two different papers now because of it. I really do wish more undergrads would look to PhD students for opportunities. Most PhDs have more work than they can manage and having undergrads that gain experience, chances to publish, and getting a current perspective of grad school is really beneficial for everyone.
Wow, this is so wonderful to hear. I completely agree with you-undergrads can help PhD students so much and learn so much from their research. Thank you for commenting this! I hope others see it and realize the kinds of opportunities there are out there
I'm just wrapping up my Associate's degree in Anthropology (my major is Psychology (changed it from Cognitive Science and Computer Engineering for funding reasons) and I finished that up a year ago, I picked up Anthropology along the way because it meant I would only have to take 3 more classes and I love anthropology!) and your channel has been so helpful! I never even thought I would like anthro until I took a class in Cultural Anthropology for my general ed requirement. Shows you how life takes you in directions you never expected.
Wow, that is amazing!! I completely agree with you by the way... I did not plan on majoring in anthropology but I liked it so much it just kinda happened haha. I'm so flattered to hear that my channel has been helpful. That's my biggest goal!!
I think i'll come back to this video from time to time, it has some really good ideas☺️ Also, I got distracted by the guitar and the bass in the background🤣
I’m becoming disappointed in my Anthropology degree. It’s been ridiculously difficult to get experience without paying more money for internships. I hope people reconsider before pursuing :/ I spent 7 years studying. Maybe you have tips on what they look for when hiring because the university didn’t help 😅
Hi! Yes this is something a lot of anthropology students struggle with and I’m sorry to hear you have been struggling w it. One of my biggest frustrations is paying money to participate in anthropology. Hopefully some of these ideas were helpful :) And yes! I’d love to talk about the career side-now that I’ve done it, I feel good enough to talk about it!
Hello Alivia!👋 I was wondering if you could have a book review on Homo Deus by Yuval Noah Harari because I really want to know your thoughts about it😅 thank you!
@@AliviaBrown Yeah sorry about that I just got busy with work😅 but even though I don't comment much I still watch your vlogs and we your viewers appreciate you responding to our comments, and messages here❤️ anyways, what made me think of it is because I bought a book about it and would really like to know what are your thoughts about it since it's like a sequel of the book Sapiens which you already made a review about. Thank you again!
No worries at all! If college taught me anything it's that life is crazy lol. I'd love to talk about this. I just need to get my hands on a copy of it and read it first...but THEN I will make it ahaha
Aw, thanks so much! And they are very similar! You can find research programs in undergrad that allow you to do a lot of work similar to a Masters/graduate student education. Just wanted to remind people to look for those programs both during and after undergrad :) Great observation
Did you know I wrote a course on human evolution? 🧬🦍🦧🐒🌱🌳

Wow, this comment has warmed my heart completely. So happy you have relighted your interest in anthropology!

Haha so glad!! And yes, I play guitar and the instruments look good in the background lol
@@AliviaBrown is it you playing the music at the end of the videos?
Got so much idea thankyou. 👍
Of course, I am so so glad!

What do you think it’s the best thing for an anthropology major to do after right college?
I think it really depends on the person and their interests! Since it's so broad, it's tough to choose one thing for such a diverse topic...
I do customer service in retail would that count as anthropology?

@@AliviaBrown when u graduate high school i havent done that yet
Isn't joining a research program the same as applying for graduate school and become a graduate student? Also, great vids as always :D
