What makes you think they're going to refund your money to you when you overpay. The chances of the request is non existent especially if the payment has already posted. In order to refund you the money they can't refund you any of the amount until the amount that is actually due is received.

If it's over 500 would they consider it a cash advance if it's not allocated to a specific merchants, like a store. I'm pretty sure gift cards and money orders both cost money. You'll end up doing all of this and profit maybe $1.25 in points. And you'll end up burning much more than that in gas. Not to mention that if the banks catch you doing this, as mentioned by others, they will terminate your account. Even if this worked it wouldn't be worth it.
