It is the same any place you go. That is why it is better for somebody to go an experience a place , maybe renting temporarily before moving. There is a lo t of beautiful thing to see in DR, but there is inconvenience that you have to put up with. It can be traffic, it can be the culture.

I just went in my phone to look at a receipt from Jumbo and it was around 5,900 pesos for one week. This is grocery shopping for two adults y two children. Now if you have aristocratic taste, and a bank account to accommodate that lifestyle, then your going to spend that US$500 a week type of money. Anyone planning to live in the DR needs to spend as little amount of time in tourist areas. Your both correct on this subject/topic. 👍👍👍

I definitely believe you can stretch the dollar futher when living there as opposed to vacationing.
