    I had never even looked a acrylic craft paints and then i saw this video and i went to my local Walmart and bought 4 bottles of it costing between .58 and $1.19 and i got some really nice colors. I used one and was amazed at how well it turned out. Thank you so much for such a great video. Happy New Year.

      @@montydavis6046 the hobbyists at Hobby Works tell me that you need to be about 11 inches away from the model.
      Here is what I'm not understanding. They also tell me that you don't sand the final coat of paint at all. Then you put your clear gloss coat on. But here, you've put your last coat on. Wet sanded with a very fine grit if I remember. And then you put your gloss clear coat on. I have no idea which way is the right way. Or even if either way is fine.

    Hello Monty. Before anything, thank you for sharing your very valued experience. the result is very impressive, beautiful finishing! Very interesting your video/technique with acrylic paint. I have some questions and I hope you can help me with them. Is that thinner, simple water?, that paint are you using is a comercial one or is special for scale models?, how much is the PSI you work your airbrush? Do you coat overall with a special kind of lacquer or it is a simple transparent acrylic spray? (I mean, Rust Oleum is the best of the best) I assume the paint is water base, am I right? Do you give two layers of paint? for how long do you allow the paint to dry? sorry for so many questions but I'm just starting to comprehend this subject with acrylic paints. I did'n finished the video and I started asking questions, that's why answers may be obvious. Thank you so much Monty! great job! blessings for you too.

      I thin the paint with windshield washer fluid (blue), The paint is simple acrylic craft paint that you can get at Hobby Lobby, Michael's, etc.
      My airbrush does not have an air pressure gauge, I'm guessing 25psi. The clear is a Rustoleum 2X Gloss Clear enamel. I give at least 3 coats of paint, or until covered. I let the paint dry at least 2 hours between coats. I learned from watchin CP101, Chris Chapman and MC Model works. Check out their channels.

    Awesome awesome video! Brand new to the hobby and this helped a lot. Two quick questions. What setting are you at on your compressor psi wise? And two what needle size are you using on the airbrush 1,3, or 5?

      Thank you, I hope it helped. My compressor does not have a gauge but I would guess around 20psi. I use a #5 needle on my airbrush.

    Great video Monty! Did you sand the body before you cleared it and if so, what grit sand paper did you use?

    • @montydavis6046
      @montydavis6046  3 года назад +1

      No sir I did not sand the body. Acrylic paint is very fragile. I only sanded the clear coat which is either enamel or I use 2K clear now.

    I'm pretty comfortable shooting acrylics, but my question is this- is acetone stronger than paint thinner ( I use it to clean my brushes)

    • @montydavis6046
      @montydavis6046  3 года назад

      Acetone is strong, I just use the blue windshield washer fluid to clean my airbrush after I shoot acrylic paints.

    How long do you wait between coats of clear? What color did you paint the interior, if I may ask? Thanks!

    • @montydavis6046
      @montydavis6046  4 года назад +1

      I waited about 2 hours in between clear coats. I have not finished this kit. I was just using the body for my videos. I will probably paint it white.

    Are you sure the rustoleum clear coat is enamel as you state in the video and not a lacquer? I'm asking cause of what I found on Amazon saying its not enamel. I'm totally new to this so sorry for asking. Thanks

      @montydavis6046  3 года назад +1

      I quit using the Rustoleum about 3 months ago. They changed the formula and it didn't work for me. I have gone to use automotive 2K clear and it works much better.

    So just to be clear...your using pure windex and mixing 50/50 with the paint?

    • @montydavis6046
      @montydavis6046  3 года назад

      No sir, cheap windshield washer fluid. Windex usually has ammonia and will mess up your airbrush.

    Great video. One question. How do you wet sand the edges without taking the paint off?
    Thanks

    • @montydavis6046
      @montydavis6046  6 лет назад +1

      Very Carefully! I have sanded through several edges just learning. I try to avoid sanding near the seams and edges.

      Thanks! I have a .3 on mine and couldnt get good coverage. I always end up with a grainy finish due to the overspray. Cheers!

    I was amused by the so called "yacht rock" in the background. I liked your video because this seems simpler than other videos I watched. I wasn't clear on whether it was primed before painting though.

    • @montydavis6046
      @montydavis6046  2 года назад

      It was primed with an inexpensive dollar store primer. Got to have my music playing.

    Is there a reason to use washer fluid instead of reducer??

    • @montydavis6046
      @montydavis6046  Год назад

      You can use an acrylic reducer, I use it for the cost. Water will make the paint “break” and spot.
