Great number. Quo lads only 21 on this video. Start of their boogie rock era. UK no’12 in 1970. Chartered for 17 weeks. 2 years later we had Paper plane & the legendary Piledriver album 🎸🇬🇧

Such a great early Quo tune, good footage. Check out the vid for April, Spring, Summer And Wednesdays also from 1970.

Great that you do the earlier ones too! Also look out for more from the same gig, "Gotta go Home" over 9 minutes of perfect heads down boogie live.. 🥰 But, yes, the audience is hardly moving at all... so weird, when we know later about the mosh pit and head banging and all..

This was their first venture into boogie/blues rock, and they did a decent job of it. So much so, that it would become their trademark sound for decades to come. This is from 1970, but was a stand alone single, (it wasn't on an album), but if it were to have been, then it would have fit well alongside tracks on, 'Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon.' Another non-album single was, 'In My Chair', another bluesy number, but at a slower tempo than, 'Down The Dustpipe.' A single that managed to reach the 21 spot in the UK charts despite having no airplay! Quite a feat! Some of their earlier stuff has that raw edge to it. 'Railroad', 'Spinning Wheel Blues', 'Junior's Wailing', and, 'Someone's Learning', being some great examples. They'd come out of the doldrums of just being yet another, 'pop group', with one hit to their name, and decided to re-invent themselves, playing the type of music they wanted to play, rather than the stuff they were told to play if they wanted to be, 'famous.' Not that the material from their first 2 albums is bad, and they're efforts do have a certain protozoic feel to them, as they were finding their feet. They just needed to find the right formula. And, 'Down The Dustpipe', was the answer
The harmonica player is Bob Young, who was their roadie at the time, but would become instrumental in many of Quo's later hits as co-writer with Francis Rossi.

In the years before the financial success of "Piledriver" Status Quo toured tirelessly and relentlessly, not just in the U.K. but in European countries and Scandinavian countries like Sweden.
The commercial success of their Singles "Down the Dustpipe" & "In My Chair" kept them afloat financially, as did the moderate sales of "Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon" & "Dog of Two Head" albums.
I was 9 yrs old when I heard "Down the Dustpipe" in 1970 and it changed my world and my life.
A World without Status Quo would not be worth living in.
    RIP - Rick Parfitt
    RIP - Alan Lancaster

Harmonica played by Bob Young! If you want another early Quo song try Gerdundula! So named after a German couple they knew whist still trying to make it big on tour in Germany, as so many British bands at that time did. The couples names were Gerd and Ulla.

The crowd is the way it is because it's for Grenada TV. So you see why we invaded, we needed to get them enthusiastic about rock n' roll.

You should try listen to Is It Really Me/Gotta Go Home.
It's like Forty-Five Hundred Times but came out round about the same time as this tune. 👍

Hi Mr Rock and Roll. I’m from the UK and Quo are my favourite band for over 35 years. I love the review vids. Check out Quos mystery medley from the rock till you drop shows. You’ll love it! Would be great if you put up the reaction vid. Keep up the content buddy. Great stuff.

First Quo single i ever bought (yes i'm that old lol) the thing with the crowd is that back in 1970 all this fast paced rock was new so many had no idea how to react plus the fact that if you were in the audience you were warned before the show to basically behave which was sit still and shut up :)

Song written by Australian Carl Groszmann.
Both Roy Lynes (Piano) & Alan Lancaster (Bass) became Australians.
    Food for thought.

Rick playing a Fender Sonic . It's great to see them playing through the original road worn Sound City amps, the guy on the Harmonica is Bob Young. Bob was roadie for the band and he started to write songs early on. In particular he wrote with Francis Rossi, anytime you see Young in the writing credits it's Bob . Classic songs like Paper Plane, Caroline , Slow Train and Down Down are Rossi/Young.

About the silent audience, the band Slade seems to get them up and clapping here (still slow in 1972).. :) "Cuz I Luv You" (Slade also tried touring in the USA but failed it, like Quo.. ) ruclips.net/video/30aNzpCsh5I/видео.htmlsi=uHZpcXGTIpqNxlNm

Its quite unfathomable that Quo never did well in the USA. I know there are many reasons for this, but even so, surely this particular song with the right publicity would have done well there. I can also see your CCR likeness with this track. Backwater or Rain next..please.
