There are many aspects about Status Quo that make it such a huge pleasure to know them and love them.
When I was 7 yrs old in 1968 I just heard a great song "Pictures of Matchstickmen" though didn't know anything about the Band.
In 1970 my whole world changed when I heard "Down the Dustpipe"
I thought OMG what is this??
It made the Australian music Chart and appeared on 20 RED HOT HITS 1970.
Then there was 'radio' silence until PILEDRIVER in Dec. 1972, then all the huge albums that followed.
One of the best aspects about being a QUO fan was discovering the albums and songs that came prior to 1972.
"Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon" 1970, "Dog of Two Head" 1971 are two of my fave albums by anyone.
Non album Singles "In My Chair" and "Tune to the Music" are mind blowing masterpieces.
Rossi's vocal on "Tune to the Music" is one of the best of all time.
Then my brain exploded even further when I discovered that QUO had recorded 2 albums and multiple singles of Psychedelic Pop/Rock in the mid-late 60's.
It was then that I realised that it was the same Band and the pieces fell into place.
A short history of the Best and Greatest Rock Band in history.

Time, money and a fair amount of good luck being lacking. Unfortunately, the money side wasn't considered viable enough to continue, especially since their music was never given the air-time it deserved. Weirdly enough, when they toured, they got an overwhelmingly positive response from crowds, but for some reason, radio stations and the media in general didn't seem to want to know. Their last ditch attempt was the radio-friendly, 'Rockin' All Over The World', album, but once that didn't seem to attract attention, they cut their losses and concentrated on the UK, Europe and Australia.

Francis (the lead guitarist) put speed in Ricky's (rhythm guitarist & singer in this one) cup of tea and slightly overdosed. Rick was sitting on a stool in the studio messing around with the opening riff one evening, the others we're heading home. Next morning they came back and think "oh Rick's up early", as he is sitting on a stool messing around with the opening riff. Rick goes: Haven't been home yet :D
So he just sat there for 14 hours or so straight playing the opening riff :D
Francis tells this story often when the play it live (or at least as the beginning of the Mystery Medley)

From their 1976, 'Blue For You', album, this single, (although the album version is longer and has an interesting yet slightly unexpected beginning and ending), was one written by Rick Parfitt, who also sang the main vocals. The song apparently came about from him having had a teaspoon of speed that had, jokingly, placed into his cup of tea, earlier in the day. And he was left working on it by the rest of the band, only for them to discover the following morning that he was still at it, having gone non-stop through the night. 'Mystery Song', was the result. Why's it called that? The lyrics should make it more than apparent. The other great song/single from this album is, 'Rain.' Another one sang by Rick. Then, there's always, 'Ring Of A Change', which would have been very familiar if you'd bought, 'Rockin' All Over The World', as a single, as it was the B Side to it.
'Backwater/Just Take Me', would be one you could get your teeth into, I'm sure.
Fancy a bit of a breather? Then try, 'Living On An Island!'

The single edit from the long hot summer of 1976 a stormer of a song. Try Quos take on the old country song wild side of life from December 1976. Think of the Waylon Jennings take of the song and add the Quo kick!. Youll find some gems with a country flavour with likes of Claudie, fine fine fine and dirty water. I think youd like "Over the Edge", "Rain" and "Beginning of the End" all by Quo
IF YOUD LIKE TO TRY SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT; A FEW YEARS AGO QUO RELEASED AN ALBUM CALLED "AQUOSTIC STRIPPED BARE" A COMPILATION ALBUM WITH A DIFFERENCE AS ALL THE OLD CLASSICS WERE PERFORMED WITH ACOUSTIC GUITARS
REALLY SHOWED OFF THEIR TALENT AS TRADITIONAL MUSICIANS AS WELL AS ROCKSTARS... :)

Oh dear...You didn't listen to the "DEFINITIVE" Album version, like so many advised you to..PLEASE go and listen to the PROPER full length Album version..It is so superior in every way..The intro and outro are absolutely sublime...So dissapointed in Quo / Record company back in 1976 when they didn't take a chance, and release the full version...Go listen..You wont regret it !

Ok then you want long tracks to listen to, go find Dog of Two Head and the Piledriver album but for a change give yourself a rest(!) and listen to; unspoken words, francis guitar solo is goose pimple inducing (honest!) slower but worth giving it a listen I promise. x

If you dig deep enough you'll find certain similarities between some Bands and some songs.
It's in the ears of the listener though.
I can't hear a strong connection with "Mystery Song" and "Whole Lotta Rosie."
I have a very sharp ear for music and I still can't hear the connection between "My Sweet Lord"
    and "He's So Fine".
We all know that George Harrison was sued for hundreds of thousands of dollars for 'plagiarism'.
QUO were formed and recording many, many years before AC/DC.
Both Bands were heavily influenced by CHUCK BERRY.
