I've developed generalised epilepsy due to MS. My husband has managed to remember what to do after we were both present when his best friend had a generalised seizure one night. I am an ex student nurse, and after we got the friend to a stable, "here" position, I checked if he had any post-seizure medication, anfld I also called his ICE number. On the way home, I explained why I got the friend into the recovery position, and why I asked him to start a timer on his phone. I had my 1st generalised seizure 5 years after my clinically definite diagnosis of RRMS, and he was amazing! I had my 1st hospitalising lot in 2021, and had to spend 27 days in hospital. Husband couldn't come with me, both in the ambulance or the A&E, but he managed to visit every night and meet me at the main entrance. He even brought my manual wheelchair, and would bring me clean clothes/take my dirty ones home for washing! He didn’t think he could ho into "emergency mode" as fast as I did with his friend, but on the 28th June this year, the simple act of me falling through our bedroom door and seizing woke him up, made him get out of bed, and go into his own "emergency mode" ❤
I'd have also added that she should put away the knife on the counter, just in case she bangs her head or leg against the drawers/counter and it causes the knife to fall down. I mean, it could happen with anything on that counter, but the knife was laying on the edge.
Great! Have you taken any first aid training qualifications? We'd love to know if you could use our videos out in the field to help people learn more about First Aid - it could save someone's life!
Well I have a first aid diploma, but not the qualifications to teach others :) Though here and there I try to give tips (specially if I hear someone talking about what they'd do if an accident occurs) and I've "saved" some people from choking and helped with seizures here and there :-)
My baby sister had convulsive seizure when she was about 10years old..the seizures were very severe..we luckily had a.little old lady .an angel who happened to witness one of her seizures .(.we were literally helpless..neighbours said fhe was possesses..)she gave us a name of a doctor in a govt hosp at Port Reiz( l live in Mombasa Kenya)he checked..did tests and she was put on medicaton called convulex l think she had to tak aboot 5ml or 10ml per day..Alhamdullillah...for the next 5 yrs she that medicine and never had an attack except once only when she become ill and her fever was very high..after 5years she was slowly weaned off the medication until she stoppef taking it..at around the age ofmaybe18years old..she is now 46 years and epillepsy free.
I’ve had seizures and they’ve had to call paramedics each time. During an episode I went into cardiac arrest at work where it’s pretty public. Kinda embarrassing but I’m glad they’re we’re several people who knew CPR. A nurse and a off duty police officer and other clients took turns doing CPR.
Plz bear in mind recovery position is not good for everyone - I have fibromyalgia and FND, and can only breathe during and after a seizure if I am either sat upright or am flat on my back. Recovery position would restrict my airways and could kill me. Often mouth to mouth or a moderate punch in the stomach will help me start breathing again. Thanks xx
I'm currently going through a first-aid course at the Red Cross, and we went through all of the lessons. In a week I'll have an exam (don't know what it's called in English, like a test to pass the course) and this has been pretty helpful.
hi there! i know im a year late but if u were still wondering, i have epilepsy and during epileptic seizures the person is unconscious they will not know if u are touching them or talking to them. however when they are coming out of the seizure, they might be very confused or out of it, and at that point, comforting them can make them feel alot better.
@@ellamiller6889 my girlfriend told me she has them, never in front of me but what to do when she actually experiences one I mean after she wakes up I heard people forget the people around them and what's going and stuff like that
Sorry to hear that Nick, but glad that your Dad was able to help you. Please share this video so that more people know what to do if they find themselves in the same situation!
There hear That are kind of important to include. First if they have two seizures that they are back to back (they have not become conscious between seizures. The other thing for a reason to call the ambulance is if there is some indication that they have been seriously injured such as tumbling down a full flight of stairs when their seizure has started.
Thank you for your comment and your support ! We are really happy to help! If you liked our video, we invite you to put a like and to watch our other videos about "Learning first aid gestures" to learn more about this!
Thanks a lot for your comment. We made this program exactly for this kind of situation. We all wish that we won't need to use it, but we should all be prepared! So knowing it helps you saving a life, really make us confident that we are working for something :-)
I have seizures I know what people have to go through that have them. They are not a fun experience even when you have your own children and your children have seen their own parent going through a seizure. It’s a scary thoughtful thing to go through. I was born with them and I have all different types of them. They are not fun experience are you even injured myself with them as well.
Incase she gets cold. You can get cold sweat if you have a seizure, but usually the floor is very cold as well. And if it happens outside, it's important to try and make sure they don't lose too much heat from their bodysurface, knowing the right side (in this case) is very cold, due to the coldness of the stones/floor.
Having seizures drain a lot of energy. So it's important to keep the person warm. If they have the seizure outside the ground or temperature could be cold
That’s what happened to me. I til my dad and my son as we were going out the door to go to the hospital bc I thought I was having a stroke bc three different times I couldn’t comttplmy left arm or hand. It was the scariest thing in my life! And I am scared to death it will happen again frfr
My girlfriend has seizures but not any of the normal ones she’s very violent to where it she will start hitting something or someone she will try to hurt herself also she will try to stand up and throw herself into something or on the floor she also chomps her teeth and the seizures don’t last like normal ones she has them for as long as between 30 minutes to 3 hours we brought her to 2 different hospitals and they said they don’t know what’s going on it’s not a normal one and was seeing no sign of a seizure and just keep sending her back home the hospital had to do a intubation
