I made my highschool baseball team last week (i havent played since 4th grade and im going to 9th) And I have been watching your videos and my coach loves watching me hit.whith your tips I am the hardest hitter/with the fastet bat speed thank you
daryl dixon Daryl that is awesome to hear!! Goes to show that with some proper direction and hard work you can excel much faster versus just trying to figure it out! Really glad you like the instruction and that it's helped turn you into a better player! Thanks for the awesome comment, and if you ever have any questions don't hesitate to let me know! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
thank you, later that day at practice my coach saw me hit a ball 320 feet plus! i play jv and excelling fast.(the field used to be spring training for the phillies - jack russel stadium. can you please help me with basic outfielding
That's awesome man! Pretty cool when you hit bombs out of the same fields the pros do! Don't have any videos out on outfiled just yet, did you have anything in-particular about outfield that you need help with? ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
Will definitely put an outfield grounder video on the list, have quite a few in front of it, but will get to it ASAP. In the man time really focus on timing your feet with the grounder. You will want the foot that's on the same side as your glove, in front when catching it to ensure the quickest and most powerful throw. Awesome on the update too! Love to hear when guys make strides and start working the bat! Keep working hard and good luck out there! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
My name is Roberto Gonzalez and I play in the Minnesota Twins organization and I honestly feel that I've learned more here than I have in season! You clarify everything that my Hitting coaches couldn't and I've only been watching your videos for two days! I'm showing my teammates you're videos and they love it thank you!
+Roberto Gonzalez Thanks Roberto, and you are more than welcome! This is one of the main reasons I started PSB, to take the confusion out of the game. Really glad you found the instruction insightful, and kudos to you for taking the time to do some research. If you get a sec, shoot me an email with your name in it, I wouldn't mind having a chat about some baseball stuff: my email (encrypted): michael AT prospeedbaseball DOT com Thanks for commenting and sharing too! Talk to you soon! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
Of the gazillions of training videos on RUclips, this is among the best. I like that you do not over-complicate the process, which is all-too-often done and is especially difficult for young players to grasp. This helps a lot. One thing I have found to help young players keep their front foot in line with their back foot on the stride is to have him or her practice the stride while standing on a two-by-four. Thanks!
Norman Buzz Minnick Hey Norman, thanks for the great comment! Glad the video helped out! Totally agree with the drill with the two-by-four, would be an excellent way to make sure the stride is executed properly! Thanks for watching! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
We worked for 30 minutes prior to his game last night on what I saw in video. Had him load before the coach signaled the machine pitch was coming and really stride into the ball. Got his first hit. Can't thank you enough for posting this video. Little guy is excited he was able to contribute to team.
+Brad Tolson That's awesome Brad! You guys are most welcome, just glad we could give you some good info to work with! It's amazing what a little proper direction can do! Thanks for the awesome comment! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
This is an absolutely perfect intro for swing protocol. We’ve always called it “trigger-stride-swing” -but it’s the same concept with undeniable results. I would pay particular attention to the “hands/wall” instruction as this is an overlooked aspect. Avoid the “recoil” with your hands as this will certainly put you ‘late’ on the swing. Great video, bro. You’ve provided further insight for training my kids -especially as a former pitcher; I couldn’t hit well haha
Been training to get back into baseball (Adult rec leagues). Haven't played since I was, about sixteen. I'm 25 now and am having to relearn the mechanics from square one. This was a great vid. Thank you.
+Skyler Wilsoncroft Awesome to hear Skyler! This drill is really amazing for identifying technique issues and fixing them. You are most welcome, and than you for the awesome comment! ~Michael Pro Speed baseball
I played baseball. I can hit a baseball. I am now coaching kids on how to hit a baseball. I had no idea that I could not explain how to hit a baseball until I had to teach kids how to do it. “Just hit the ball!” is not a good coaching technique. This breakdown is going to change everything! You explain it in a way my brain just couldn’t process it. Thank you so much!!!
Thanks for this. I've been away from the game for about 7 years and started playing again recently. Timing and mechanics have been terrible, lots of K's and weak groundouts. Watched your videos and drilled fora out an hour - got two hits in my next game. Thank you!
Chris Innis That's awesome Chris! 7 years is quite a break too, glad the instruction helped you get back on track and hopefully it'll help you get even better moving forward. Glad to hear you're doing well and taking the initiative to research the game! If you ever have any questions don't hesitate to let me know! Thanks for the great comment too! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
Thank you for all the great info! My 10yr old is playing little league and we are using your drikk to help him improve his batting! Will continue to tune in for more tips amd drills!
I have a problem twisting my hips too much almost stumbling after a swing. The stride part helped a lot where you don't cross that line. Stride forward and not in! Helped a bunch. Wow
Great drill, ive been doing it with my son for over a month and a half and he has been smashing the ball since then, slowing thing down to work on his drive has been great, thanks.
Awesome to hear! And you guys are most welcome. It really is a huge deal to take a step back, slow things down, and then work back up to full speed. Not many more efficient ways of doing it! ;) Really glad the video helped out! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
I love the video, it was the way I was taught back in 2003ish from a local batting coach that had a short stint professionally. But it was a 4 step swing. #1 Load #2 Stride #3 Twist back foot (for lower body momentum) #4 Swing with head down to where the ball may be I did this in slow motion then sped it up everytime I was in the on deck circle & it worked for me. I practiced at home every chance I got. I can tell you my story about my career but it would take too much time. Just a suggestion moving forward. Thank you for reading this
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I liked and subscribed immediately. My son is 10 and we are using your videos to help fix his swing. He brings his hands back late and drops the bat head. I’m comparing your videos to videos I have taken of his swings. He really is getting it.
Great Technical Tips for my son. He really enjoyed watching and learning. Thank you for the Load, Stride, Swing! My 8 year old son got it and hope it helps him going forward with his baseball sport. Appreciate your insight. Have great rest of your day.
This very helpful. Thank you. My 7 year old son strides and swings at the same time, letting him watch this video and try this technique made a big difference. Thanks...
My 8 year-old just started Fall Ball. He has always been a pretty good hitter, but for some reason he was struggling to hit the ball. I could tell he was doing a few things wrong, but trying to explain and correct wasn't working. I found this video and thought the tips were great and relatively easy to explain. It took me less than two minutes to go over the basics of the video with him and sure enough, last night at practice he was crushing the ball! Nearly every hit was with power right up the middle...it was unbelievable. In a matter of minutes, he went from "I hate hitting" to "I can't wait to hit again!" Can't thank you enough for the information. I'm going to try it with my older son tonight...let's see if we can go 2 for 2!
Great information! Recently my 9 year old nephew mechanics have been messed up after his All-Star coach tried to "help." He's now experiencing bat drag as well! So we plan on going back to the basics and seeing this video really helped us.
This video actually reinforces many of the issues that are common in youth baseball. While well intentioned, teaching disconnected swings where the hands push down to the ball isn’t the answer! It’s crazy this has so many views. If you want to have a great swing, watch great hitters (MLB Players) and practice replicating what they do
Great video. I'm a Little League coach for 10 year olds and so many of my guys straighten their front arm during swing. Do you have any videos or drills addressing specifically that? I'm having a hard time finding the right cues to tell the boys so they stop straightening that arm. Also, great point on the double loading and striding. I was working with the boys on this very thing last night, several of them would get loaded, take their step and then do it again to take their swing.
Brian Mitts Brian Mitts Thanks Brian! I currently don't have any videos specifically on straightening the front arm, yet it's a great idea for a video and I will most definitely put it on the list!Yea, the double load and stride is extremely productive if done correctly, I have had a lot of success teaching my students by telling them it's not a "swing hard" or "kill the ball" drill and I usually have them think about swinging around half-speed. They can definitely speed it once they've gotten used to ONE load and ONE stride. Thanks for the comment and thanks for the video idea! And if you have any other questions or if there's anything else I can help out with just let me know! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
Thanks for the tips! I took four years off after graduating high school and really struggled in my first season back. I am going to incorporate these drills into my offseason routine this offseason
Great video. I graduated from High School and played softball for a few years. Now I'm in a really competitive mens wooden bat league. I don't ever have a problem seeing the ball or recognizing the pitch. But I can tell that my swing is to long. What tips would you give on being quicker and shortening up the swing but maintaining power. Hit a home-run 3 games ago that went about 345 ft. But I would trade that in if I could constantly hit the ball hard up the middle.
Joshua Vargo Hey Joshua, thanks for the comment! Have a couple of great videos on the channel that will really help with transferring the softball swing back to baseball. There aren't huge differences, but definitely big enough to throw you off. (Like you said, you feel like the swing is long) I would check out these videos: ruclips.net/video/FoCDMMc1H3Q/видео.html - Video is for picking up quickness and bat speed, yet the drill in the video will be really good for shortening up as well. ruclips.net/video/T9m0Dy7hWCs/видео.html - This drill is specific for shortening up the swing. I would highly suggest paying attention to the setup and checkpoints for the drill. Those are what's really going to help make the swing more efficient/shorter. Hope these help out, if you have any questions on this or anything else don't hesitate to let me know! Nice job with the bomb too! Good Luck! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
Thank you so much for the video!! I've been having problems w my hitting mechanics as a righty (weird as a lefty I'm sound!) .. I will apply your tips to my t drills and see how it goes (will let you know) ...
Wanderly Ramirez Hey Wanderly Ramirez, you are more than welcome!! Looking forward to hearing about your progress, this is a great place to start especially if you are breaking it down! Thanks for the comment as well! Good Luck! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
I've been playing baseball for about 7 years now and I still can't get my bat going, but watching this video is making me understand why I might have that problem. definitely worth a subscribe. thanks!
+Martin Corona You are more than welcome! This is definitely one of the best drills to get started/understand what's going on in your swing. Glad you found the instruction helpful and thanks for the comment! Good Luck out there! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
Like I told Martin, this drill is an excellent starting point. I would also suggest checking out the free videos at ProSpeedBaseball.com, to help with knowing the proper positioning of the most important parts of the swing. Coupling the positioning with the Load, Stride, Swing drill will be in-valuable for building an efficient swing! If you have any questions, just let us know! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
Hello just watched your video for the first time. I would love to send some videos of my sons hitting mechanics. He is a junior college player for Mineral area. He hits home runs pretty easy with wood and of course metal. He had 13 home runs in 38 games with 50 rbi's last summer. He is bombing home runs during batting practice last fall and during games. He has been ask to play next summer in the M.I.N.K. league for the sedalia bombers team. A summer collegiate league for college players wanting to go pro. So far we know of 3 MLB scouts going to scout him this spring. His exit velo with a wood bat is just under 100 mph at 99. He is 18 yrs old and a freshman in college. I video him all the time and we sit down and go over what he needs to work on. A lot of times I"ll break down his swings with specific drills and then turn him loose. His videos are on you tube for you to access.
Kenneth H.B. Adderley Thanks for the awesome comment Kenneth! Really appreciate it! Glad to hear you found this video helpful and something you can use to teach! If you ever have any questions or if there's anything I can help with, just let me know! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
+Paul Gallegos You are most welcome Paul! Glad you liked the instruction. Good luck with your sons, and if you ever have any questions just let us know! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
I just found your channel and found this video very very helpful. I found myself dipping my bat towards the ground a little bit then coming back up while I was swinging. Since I just found your channel, I haven't looked through the rest of your videos. *sorry*. So can you make a video on straitening your swing if you haven't yet? Reply back if you have already made a video of it. Thanks so much(I subscribed and liked this video btw 😀)
Thanks John! Excited to hear you can utilize the instruction for your kids! We'll keep it up! If you ever have an questions or if there's anything we can help with, just let us know! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
I am just getting into playing baseball it’s seem to be easy on defense for me but offense is where I need to work on. With that being said, your video helped me, however I have one question; how do I know when to stride
great video.. I have been trying to get my son to create a good swing. he grounds out a lot. but he strides and swings at the same time. makes sense that you would have a better swing
+Raul Romo Hey Raul, thanks for the comment! Striding and swinging at the same time is a very difficult way to hit, hence the ground balls, which is usually the tendency. Making sure there the load/stride is done first, then swinging gives the hitter control and direction! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
+Raul Romo he grounds out a lot most likely because his swing is flat to down, needs to dip the back shoulder slightly as he extends to get a more favorable plane
+Beatbox Expert Thanks for the question! This drill is designed to be able to take your time through the load, stride and swing. So throwing it up to yourself would create a drill where you would have to move quickly. This drill, however, can be done with someone else tossing it to you. This would give you the opportunity to load and stride first, then swing when the ball is tossed. Hope this helps out! If you have any other questions, just let us know! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
Thank you for showing me this advice I am 12 and I have never played baseball before and I am trying the sport out and I am already a lot better with hitting already
My son lifts his plant foot (front foot) right before contact and hits off his toes. So in other words, when he makes contact with the baseball, he lifts his heel and hits off his toes. Any advise or drills on how to keep his front foot on the ground at contact ? Great videos.
Robert R Hey Robert, thanks for the question! I don't have a video specifically on this, but I have ran into this on multiple occasions. I would highly suggest starting from a tee and working on this drill: 1. Get into the load/stride position (just like the Load, Stride, Swing Video) 2. Get the lead heel down to a flat foot position. 3. Make swings at 25% while keeping the lead flat foot position. 4. Once he can make 10-15 swings in a row without lifting the foot up, bump the swings up to 50% 5. Repeat #4 at 50% then bump it up to 75%, then game speed. 6. Repeat steps 1-5 in front toss, then again in batting practice. After doing these he should start to get a sense of where and what his feet are doing, and have a ton of reps swinging with the lead heel down. Hope this helps get him started! I'd also like to hear how he does with it as well. Thanks for the awesome comment too, really glad you enjoy the instruction! If you have any other questions on this or anything else, just let me know! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
+Pro Speed Baseball Michael, Thanks for the advise. The drill seemed to work well. After a week of doing the drill you recommended, my son now consistently keeps his plant foot firmly on the ground at contact. We are still working some bugs out with him keeping his head on the ball at contact, but his swing looks 10 X better then it did. Thanks again. Keep the Awesome videos coming.
That is awesome to hear and you guys are more than welcome! Tell him I said, "nice work and keep at it!" Keep me updated too if you can, I'd like to hear how it's going! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
I have to many problems with stepping so instead I move my left foot and twist it when swinging without stepping. It helped a little but I'm only getting bloopers that fall. I really want to get some hard hit balls- any tips?
I really like your videos and for me as a player and instructor it really helps, can you post a video talking about timing and breaking balls. Thanks in advance.
+Hector Arias You are most welcome, glad it helped out! I'd be more than happy to check your swing out, you can find the email on the main page at ProSpeedBaseball.com, (Towards the bottom in contact section). I will say that I do get a lot of emails, so it might take me a bit to get back to you. If you are looking for some more personal help you can check out our new Pro Swing System and the Unlimited Online Review Group at the website as well. Thanks for the awesome comment! Look forward to hearing from your! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
thank you i have had trouble hitting because i finished my 1st year of kid pitch a few months ago i am just starting my second year and have not hit the ball in our first 2 games thanks for the help.
You are most welcome, sorry to hear you are struggling... Yet, you are doing the right thing, you're researching the swing to aid your game, nice job! If you have any questions just let us know! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
Well I just found ur page and I am a coach/player for a N.A.B.A. men's baseball team and I am having so!e trouble with my guys. Some have not played in 5+ years or like my self 15 years and so!e of the guys are coming from softball to hard ball. Any help or specific videos u can point me in the direction of to help my guys so we can start making some solid contact on the swings? Thanks in advance
Jacob Wilson Hey Jacob, thanks for the question!! Getting back to the basics is a great place to start, especially for guys who have been out of the game for a while. Basics will come back pretty quick as well being as the guys have already played baseball before. The guys transferring over from softball will be a slightly different issue, generally. The slow pitch softball swing is different enough from the baseball swing to throw anybody off for a bit. A good place to start with them is to spread out the base and use a smaller stride. (Slow Pitch Softball players normally start narrow and take a big stride) As far as videos, the Load Stride Swing video is great place to start and I would highly recommend these: ruclips.net/video/a_tJvSCvgRE/видео.html (Awesome video for understanding swing path) ruclips.net/video/r_6zdYUBpjc/видео.html (Setup) ruclips.net/video/SNsahz99Q_M/видео.html (Good Contact Drill with tee or batting practice) ruclips.net/video/T9m0Dy7hWCs/видео.html (Help softball guys shorten up swing) ruclips.net/video/pMog2oqLdQs/видео.html (good to understand body position at contact) If you ever have any questions or there's anything I can help with don't hesitate to let me know! Good Luck out there! ~Micheal Pro Speed Baseball
Check out this guy. With front arm only swings you can teach yourself mechanics that are as good as Griffey, Ruth, you name it. With front arm only swings you don't have to think about big muscles. Get your arm positions right and the rest will take care of itself. ruclips.net/video/rhSDKzVNn1U/видео.html
Great video. My 8 year old plays in a machine pitch league vs the old coaches pitch. He's having a hard time understanding timing with regards to load and stride. He swings flat footed, no stride but he swings late with a wide weak swing. Any advice is helpful as he's the one kid on the team who can't grasp hitting. He's frustrated. Thank you.
+Brad Tolson Hey Brad, thanks for the comment. Sorry to hear you guys are having some trouble. Without physically seeing him swing, it would be taught to tell you guys exactly what to work on. However, the drill in this video is a great place to start. As far as timing the machine, I would suggest loading and striding as the coach is bringing his hand down to signal the release of the pitch. Therefore, his load and stride will be done before the ball is released and will give him a much better chance at getting to contact. Hope this helps out! If you have any questions, just let us know! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
+Brad Tolson So leave the stride out! I get my "kids" having that problem to just load and swing...or just tap the front foot, barely pick up the front foot/then back down, the shift is almost automatic. With proper load there is weight shift with the swing. Work on getting him to making contact and he can increase the amount he "strides" as he gets more comfortable. Everyone wants to be a HR hitter, but a consistent contact hitter is a team asset. Bottom line if he isn't having fun he will never fall in love with the game. It is hard to explain in words hope this helps you guys..
Dave Generic Great Suggestion Dave! This is especially helpful with younger kids, although I have done this with professionals that grew up with bad stride habits! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
Pro Speed Baseball Thanks.. I have learned many tips and "tricks" from your videos, I appreciate your insight... "as soon as you think you know everything, you can't learn anything" ;)
Hey Michael, do you have suggestions with loading like some players have a leg kick, toe tap, or a little stride forward which would you recommend to be as effective and efficient as possible or is it more personal preference? I'm trying to be as consistent as possible and trying to be as simple as possible with no crazy moving parts so I could be short and quick to the ball. Thanks
Great instructional video. A couple points 1 - Your head moved back on the stride then forward 0n the swing. Keep your head over the back leg. During the swing - the chin is on the front shoulder(head down and still) and rotation of the body causes the chin to end up on the back shoulder. The head has to stay down to execuite the mechanic. 2 - Never tell or show a player what they did wrong - tell or show the correct movement. Mentally the only thing the brain retains is what NOT to do, then turns right around and does it. EX: "I hope I don't move my foot toward the plate" What' he do - you got it - moves his foot toward the plate. This goes for fielding drills too. Bottom line - Coach positives! Eliminate all "This is what you did." Bottom line 2 - Eliminate "I hope". Instruct "I will". I subscribed - don't know if it took or not because I requested the set of drills you were offering free and "Can not find page error 404" popped up. I want to subscribe and I would like a free set of these drills, please.
Hey, I am Hunter and I had a question. So I have the same batting technique that you have in this video. The problem I am having is bat speed. I think I need to go down in bay size however my coach is against it. What is the best way to get your bat speed better?
You know what would really be a game changer!? doing a video where a pitcher is throwing at you and you explain when you should start doing the LOAD, STRIDE, SWING. Please do it, or explain your tecnique on how to time your swing with the pitcher at what point do you start you Load? when the pitcher shows the ball? that would be awesome!! thanks
When would be a good time to load and swing? I have heard that you should load before pitch stride in windup, load in windup stride in swing, and load during pitch and stride right after. Which one of these would be correct?
+kyle west A great rule of thumb to make sure you are as efficient as you can be at the plate, would be to make sure your stride foot is down BEFORE the ball is released from the pitcher's hand. From there, you can then find your ideal timing. Some guys will end up striding a little earlier, and some a little later. We will be having a video coming out on this very subject soon, keep a lookout! Hope this helps! If you have any other questions on this or anything else, just let us know! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
You are most welcome! Stoked to hear you're doing well! Nice work on your part for taking the time to research and work on your game! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
My daughter is going to start softball for the first time. Are the concepts and drills that same? If not, do you know of any resources for the girls fast pitch softball swing?
Dane Anderson Hi Dane!! Thanks for the question! The bat I use in my videos is a Max Bat 243 Pro Maple. If you have any other questions just let me know! Thanks for watching! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
I am helping coach my 11year olds baseball team ..our hitting is not looking the best. I am looking for any tips on how to improve this aspect of our team. Thanks in advance
Jason Kaminski Hey Jason, Thanks for the comment! When it comes to working with younger players the basics definitely need to be heavily emphasized. This video with the load, stride and swing is a fantastic place to start being as it really breaks the swing down into 3 simple moves. Making sure the feet are square and hands are in a good position is invaluable for younger player especially. I know it starts getting pretty competitive at that age, yet I would reccomend to encourage the kids to work on having solid mechanics even if they aren't doing as well right off the bat. If they are making good, fundamental swings over and over again, they will eventually figure out their timing and begin hitting well. For example, a kid misses a ball completely but loads and strides nicely, makes a nice balanced swing and completely misses the ball... This would be more productive than say a kid taking an awful swing, getting lucky, and hitting it hard. Just a random general answer that I really hope helps out! If you have any other questions specifically on this or anything else just let me know! I'd be happy to help! Good Luck! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
My technique looks good right now. I've video taped and compared to other players and worked with coaches to make sure my mechanics are solid. I'm swinging the bat well. In cages I crush the ball. But in games im not sure why I just can't seem to square it up. I have a set approach to my at bats and don't understand why I can't seem to hit well in the games.
+Caleb Conner Tough to tell you exactly what to work on without physically seeing your swing. Could be a mechanical issue that you're unaware of, or simply a timing issue. There are lots of guys who can hit very well in the cage, yet their mechanics are less than ideal and because they are hitting ball after ball, they can get into a rhythm and hit well in the cage. As you know, when we get into the game, hitting the ball into fair territory 4 times would be a lot. Therefore we don't have the chance to have that ball-to-ball rhythm. If it's not mechanics, I would look into the timing issue, and see if your a little in front or behind. This is all speculation without seeing your swing. We'd be happy to take a look at your swing if you'd like to send it in. Just let us know! You can email it to us at the email provided in the contact section at ProSpeedBaseball.com ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
Just found your videos. Great tutorials. Where do you get your tee? It looks like it has some weights to keep it steady? Any help would be great. Thanks!
Thanks Melanie! Glad you like the instruction! The tee from the video is called a Tanner Tee. We use weights on the tee at the academy, yet the will still work fine without any weight! If you have any other questions, just let us know! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
I've tried everything with my son, from getting down lower to lowering his hands. he keeps chopping the baseball. please give me some tips how to avoid that.
+Mario Garcia I would highly recommend checking out the swing plane videos available on RUclips: ruclips.net/video/a_tJvSCvgRE/видео.html ruclips.net/video/Pg7J0PVNW4k/видео.html ruclips.net/video/T17fgs1MW2I/видео.html You can also check out our Pro Swing System available at ProSpeedBaseball.com Most swing faults come from a core issue in mechanics. Working on proper fundamentals and positioning will alleviate many issues such as "chopping." Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, just let us know! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
Hey guys, I coach a T-Ball team and I'm just teaching the basics. lining up the knuckles, keeping the hands back and making good contact... Now, when I was learning they stressed to us on swinging DOWN on the ball at a 45% angle. Every major league player I see swing is NOT swinging down on the ball. What am I missing? Please update me on this so I can teach correctly at this age. Thank you...
Mike Assisi Hey Mike, thanks for the question. I just released a great video on this very subject. You can check it out here: ruclips.net/video/a_tJvSCvgRE/видео.html&lc=z12tvn3b4yjpznd0g23dxdghkurpth3kq The video is on swing plane(path) and explains why you see what you see when looking at Big League players.Let me know if it helps, if you have any questions on the subject or if I can help with anything else!~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
Hey I have a question I am having trouble staying back on the ball. I am also having trouble with my stride. When I stride my weight is on my front foot how do I fix these problems and what drills should I use
Great video thanks! Does this swing drill apply to Mens Slowpitch Softball, or is there a better drill you would recommend to practice fixing 30+ years of using the wrong swing mechanics?
You're most welcome Kyle! And yes, everything we teach can easily be used for slowpitch. There's really no one "magic" drill, just simply understanding the swing mechanics is where you want to start and then build from there. ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
I am having a problem with my wrist. particularly my left hand side. Of course I bat right handed. My wrist hurt and it feels like I am having a problem rolling my wrist throw my swing. Is the a way that I can work on this? What are some drills I can do to strengthen my wrist?
justin alvarado Without seeing your swing, it would be tough to diagnose the issue. To start, if a joint is hurting, like the wrist, it's best to get it checked out before moving forward to avoid further damage. I would suggest checking out the bat lag video here: ruclips.net/video/ne874jBGYEc/видео.html It goes over how to create the proper angle in the swing and release it. If you have any other questions just let me know! Good Luck! ! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
Any chance I can send you a video of my son hitting? He has started to struggle a little...unsure if it is increase in weight of bat causing the changes.

thank you, later that day at practice my coach saw me hit a ball 320 feet plus! i play jv and excelling fast.(the field used to be spring training for the phillies - jack russel stadium.
can you please help me with basic outfielding
That's awesome man! Pretty cool when you hit bombs out of the same fields the pros do!
Don't have any videos out on outfiled just yet, did you have anything in-particular about outfield that you need help with?
~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
mainly grounders because When I get the ball and throw it's not in time.
Update- I am hitting "Oppo" ( to the other side)
You clarify everything that my
Hitting coaches couldn't and I've only been watching your videos for two days!
If you get a sec, shoot me an email with your name in it, I wouldn't mind having a chat about some baseball stuff:
my email (encrypted): michael AT prospeedbaseball DOT com
Thanks for commenting and sharing too! Talk to you soon! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
+Pro Speed Baseball thank you and I look forward to talking to you
Roberto Gonzalez yeah I don't think you the real Roberto Gonzalez
@Michael Shelton if they had a series of baseball videos on youtube and they wanted to make them seem legit
~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
good job
This video should have 2 million likes - thanks for posting it
I agree! :P Thanks for the great comment. Glad you liked the video!
Thanks spordlaw! Glad you liked it! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
Been training to get back into baseball (Adult rec leagues). Haven't played since I was, about sixteen. I'm 25 now and am having to relearn the mechanics from square one. This was a great vid. Thank you.
Great Tips, just from watching i can see what I am doing wrong and will be sure to fix the mistakes. Thank You!
Not many more efficient ways of doing it! ;)
Really glad the video helped out! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
I love the video, it was the way I was taught back in 2003ish from a local batting coach that had a short stint professionally. But it was a 4 step swing.
#1 Load
#2 Stride
#3 Twist back foot (for lower body momentum)
#4 Swing with head down to where the ball may be
I did this in slow motion then sped it up everytime I was in the on deck circle & it worked for me.
Great video. I’m teaching my 5 year old grandson. Thanks.
Great Technical Tips for my son. He really enjoyed watching and learning. Thank you for the Load, Stride, Swing! My 8 year old son got it and hope it helps him going forward with his baseball sport. Appreciate your insight. Have great rest of your day.
You are most welcome Ignacio! Thank you so much for the great comment! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
this actually helped me i had trouble getting my hips into it
thederpy gamer Thanks for the comment! Glad to hear the video helped out!! Keep working hard! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
Same
Same
This very helpful.
Ive tried this for two days and its already working thank you
Man you're so helpful! I wish you could be my hitting coach!
This video actually reinforces many of the issues that are common in youth baseball. While well intentioned, teaching disconnected swings where the hands push down to the ball isn’t the answer! It’s crazy this has so many views. If you want to have a great swing, watch great hitters (MLB Players) and practice replicating what they do
great coaching , great examples.
Question - What is the stride for ? what is benefit of it ? Also, is this the same way of hitting for power ?
watching your footwork helped a lot with my weight shifting
Great video. I'm a Little League coach for 10 year olds and so many of my guys straighten their front arm during swing. Do you have any videos or drills addressing specifically that? I'm having a hard time finding the right cues to tell the boys so they stop straightening that arm.
Also, great point on the double loading and striding. I was working with the boys on this very thing last night, several of them would get loaded, take their step and then do it again to take their swing.
Brian Mitts Brian Mitts
Thanks Brian!
Great video! Literally know nothing about batting form and this just gave me a great understanding, thanks!!!
(Like you said, you feel like the swing is long)
I would check out these videos:
ruclips.net/video/FoCDMMc1H3Q/видео.html
- Video is for picking up quickness and bat speed, yet the drill in the video will be really good for shortening up as well.
ruclips.net/video/T9m0Dy7hWCs/видео.html
- This drill is specific for shortening up the swing.
You teach and demonstrate so nicely. A thumb up from Beijing !
Thanks Armstrong WANG!!! Glad you like the instruction! Hello back form America!! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
thank you so much from the bottom of my heart this helps me and my two beautiful eight-year-old twins tremendously
Good
Luck out there!
~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
Same with me my batting has not been doing good Lately hope this helps even though I don't doubt it
Like I told Martin, this drill is an excellent starting point.

Great vid, I’m in a slump right now and hopefully going back to the basics will help.
I have not played organized baseball ever and I made the team on my first try, Thanks coach !
Nice tutorial.
On the load, where is your weight centered?
Great video, I will def try this with my 6y/o. I'll let you know how it goes.
I’m guessing it didn’t go well
Great information, will teach this method
Kenneth H.B. Adderley Thanks for the awesome comment Kenneth! Really appreciate it! Glad to hear you found this video helpful and something you can use to teach!

+Pro Speed Baseball could you post an updated basic outfielder video?
I just found your channel and found this video very very helpful. I found myself dipping my bat towards the ground a little bit then coming back up while I was swinging. Since I just found your channel, I haven't looked through the rest of your videos. *sorry*. So can you make a video on straitening your swing if you haven't yet? Reply back if you have already made a video of it. Thanks so much(I subscribed and liked this video btw 😀)
Ive never played baseball but my son wants to and i cant afford a coach. This will get us started, thank you.
I love your videos. We show them to our kids we coach so they hear the same thing we teach, but from a different person. Keep up the good work!
Thanks John! Excited to hear you can utilize the instruction for your kids! We'll keep it up!
If you ever have an questions or if there's anything we can help with, just let us know! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
Well done coach...I'll be using this to teach my grandson!!!
Get ready for curveballs lmao
Lol your going to get comfortable with -11 bats and then next year your going to -3 and your going to have to restart with practice
Thanks im batting good so far
My son lifts his plant foot (front foot) right before contact and hits off his toes. So in other words, when he makes contact with the baseball, he lifts his heel and hits off his toes. Any advise or drills on how to keep his front foot on the ground at contact ? Great videos.
Robert R Hey Robert, thanks for the question!
I don't have a video specifically on this, but I have ran into this on multiple occasions. I would highly suggest starting from a tee and working on this drill:
1. Get into the load/stride position (just like the Load, Stride, Swing Video)
2. Get the lead heel down to a flat foot position.
3. Make swings at 25% while keeping the lead flat foot position.
4. Once he can make 10-15 swings in a row without lifting the foot up, bump the swings up to 50%
Tell him I said, "nice work and keep at it!"
Keep me updated too if you can, I'd like to hear how it's going!
~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
Thanks for keeping it simple. I took notes from.this video. Well done.

Bro thanks man. This video help me out a lot.I have a few issues with my load. How can I send you a video of my problem?
+Hector Arias You are most welcome, glad it helped out! I'd be more than happy to check your swing out, you can find the email on the main page at ProSpeedBaseball.com, (Towards the bottom in contact section).
I will say that I do get a lot of emails, so it might take me a bit to get back to you. If you are looking for some more personal help you can check out our new Pro Swing System and the Unlimited Online Review Group at the website as well.

thank you i have had trouble hitting because i finished my 1st year of kid pitch a few months ago i am just starting my second year and have not hit the ball in our first 2 games thanks for the help.
You are most welcome, sorry to hear you are struggling... Yet, you are doing the right thing, you're researching the swing to aid your game, nice job!

(Slow Pitch Softball players normally start narrow and take a big stride)
As far as videos, the Load Stride Swing video is great place to start and I would highly recommend these:
ruclips.net/video/a_tJvSCvgRE/видео.html (Awesome video for understanding swing path)
ruclips.net/video/r_6zdYUBpjc/видео.html (Setup)
ruclips.net/video/SNsahz99Q_M/видео.html (Good Contact Drill with tee or batting practice)
ruclips.net/video/T9m0Dy7hWCs/видео.html (Help softball guys shorten up swing)
ruclips.net/video/pMog2oqLdQs/видео.html (good to understand body position at contact)
If you ever have any questions or there's anything I can help with don't hesitate to let me know!
Good Luck out there! ~Micheal Pro Speed Baseball
I try to tell my grandson this and he listens to his coach. Always strikes out. He is a senior and has let down 4 bases loaded down
Great video I’ve known this drill but I loved how you explained why you had to do things
thank you pro speed baseball me looking at all your videos last season my stats are .328 50 (ab) 23 (hr) 32 (hits) 12 (2b) 10 (3b)
That's awesome Omar! Sounds like your tearing it up! Nice work, keep it up! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
this really helps me be a better batter than i was
Nice video dude you will help me a lot and keep up the good work
Thanks Paige, will do! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
Thanks, this will help when I start baseball again
Check out this guy. With front arm only swings you can teach yourself mechanics that are as good as Griffey, Ruth, you name it. With front arm only swings you don't have to think about big muscles. Get your arm positions right and the rest will take care of itself.
ruclips.net/video/rhSDKzVNn1U/видео.html
Awesome advice! I really Appreciate you and your Baseball talent!!!
Thank you for the tips, this will really help me with hitting
Any tips for deciding to swing earlier and lifting your front leg up?
Absolutely! Couldn't agree more!
~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
I had a problem where I would load and do my stride at the same time and this really helped
Ken Griffey Jr loaded and strided at the same time
Hey Michael, do you have suggestions with loading like some players have a leg kick, toe tap, or a little stride forward which would you recommend to be as effective and efficient as possible or is it more personal preference?
Eliminate all "This is what you did."
Bottom line 2 - Eliminate "I hope". Instruct "I will".
I subscribed - don't know if it took or not because I requested the set of drills you were offering free and "Can not find page error 404" popped up. I want to subscribe and I would like a free set of these drills, please.
Really awesome. Thanks for making this!
William Buck You are more than welcome! Glad you liked it and thanks for the comment! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
Hey, I am Hunter and I had a question. So I have the same batting technique that you have in this video. The problem I am having is bat speed. I think I need to go down in bay size however my coach is against it. What is the best way to get your bat speed better?
Good stuff! Thank you.
You know what would really be a game changer!? doing a video where a pitcher is throwing at you and you explain when you should start doing the LOAD, STRIDE, SWING. Please do it, or explain your tecnique on how to time your swing with the pitcher at what point do you start you Load? when the pitcher shows the ball? that would be awesome!! thanks
hi excellent video my son it's 9 second year playing ! it's hard for him to hit an follow the ball any recommendations please please
Thanks dude for the great video!
Thanks a lot. Videos helped me a lot with my hitting.
Hey, Pro Speed Baseball what type of bat do you use?
Dane Anderson Hi Dane!! Thanks for the question! The bat I use in my videos is a Max Bat 243 Pro Maple.
If you have any other questions just let me know! Thanks for watching! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
You’re the goat!!!! Thanks man!
Have you tried doing front arm only swings?
Good Luck! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
this is just great. awesome post

This help me hit the ball thanks
Just found your videos. Great tutorials. Where do you get your tee? It looks like it has some weights to keep it steady? Any help would be great. Thanks!
Thanks Melanie! Glad you like the instruction! The tee from the video is called a Tanner Tee. We use weights on the tee at the academy, yet the will still work fine without any weight!

Most swing faults come from a core issue in mechanics. Working on proper fundamentals and positioning will alleviate many issues such as "chopping."

~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
great video!!! ⚾️⚾️
I would suggest checking out the bat lag video here:

It goes over how to create the proper angle in the swing and release it.

Great video
Any chance I can send you a video of my son hitting? He has started to struggle a little...unsure if it is increase in weight of bat causing the changes.
I love the tips! Your vids always seem to help me keep a consistency while hitting!
