  • $40 junkyard turbo and some redneck ingenuity. Sounds a bit like a 12v cummins. Its a big garret turbo off of a diesel of sorts so it takes a bit to spool.

    Would love to see underhood pictures/video. A walkthrough showing every thing u did, and parts used would be nice.

    Looks just like my 1986 2.8 throttle body same paint 😂. I have been wanting to put a super charger on it and get an ari 3.1stroker kit. Yours looks and sounds great. Thanks for the info.

    you should do a walk around and under the hood vid i have an 86 s10 2.8 thinking about doing the same thing

    How much horsepower no one ever puts it on these 2.8 builds

    Did you have to remap the ECU/fuel curve to run the boost? My '88 Blazer has a 2.8 that is fuel injected, and I'd love to actually get some power from it.

    how long would you expect the same setup to last if the lubrication system was up to snuff and the turbo didn't chew up the casing?

    • @ethanbrazee4488
      @ethanbrazee4488  7 лет назад +4

      If the setup was done well, the motor will die before the turbo...my turbo was just that..a junkyard turbo..the bearings were going to begin with...but with this in mind...I had an air filter inline with the turbo to the engine to catch debris.

    Lol sorry this is a old video to comment on but did you ever keep this thing and mess around with it? I have a 88 and want to know if I should turbo it or just go the route of different engines

    I'd love to see some photos of how you have it set up, I plan on doing a turbo on my 2.8 but there isn't much help on the forums

      I just cut a few inches after my ypipe & ran a pipe from there up to my turbo on the passenger side of the motor. I had it just high enough to drain oil back into my valve cover. The down pipe ran down along side the manifold & ran back to the back bumper. Oh & my turbo came off of a Chrysler lebaron. I didn't know much about turbos when I got it & was told it was off a powerstroke until I ran numbers years later.

      And yes your right, very frustrating...not a lot of info on the forums so it was trial & error for me.

    Did you have to do any tuning on the computer or do you have an aftermarket computer or what I’m trying to do some research before I get a turbo to put on my 2.8

    Did you have to put new heads or anything different on the motor besides the turbo?

    Where did you buy the kit? Or was it custom built?

    • @ethanbrazee4488
      @ethanbrazee4488  7 лет назад +5

      it was a custom build, it was a big junkyard garrett turbo off of a ford powerstroke diesel I believe and I fabricated all exhaust and boost piping myself. I did buy a rising rate fuel pressure regulator to supply fuel under boost but that was it. The turbo oiling system was T-ed into my oil pressure sending unit and drained back into the valve cover. months of abuse later the oil seals went out on the old turbo and so did the bearings shortly after causing the turbine wheels to hit both housings and chewed them up pretty bad. No harm was done to the 2.8 due to an inline air filter after the turbo but I had a built 305 HO/5spd ready to drop in at that point so its a v8 s10 now. I do really miss the excitement and drama of boost though and will more than likely boost my 305.

    looks fun. did you add an intercooler?

    • @ethanbrazee4488
      @ethanbrazee4488  7 лет назад

      no, tbi does a good job of cooling the air since it passes through the vaporized fuel mist coming out of the injectors and is cooled that way. I was only running 5lbs of boost so not a lot of heat was generated anyway.

    • @soildermike
      @soildermike 7 лет назад

      Ethan Brazee why only 5lbs?

    • @ethanbrazee4488
      @ethanbrazee4488  7 лет назад +1

      Because I didn't want to blow the motor & the air would be really hot coming from the turbo at higher boost levels if I didn't intercool it. It did run 18 psi once & it was a beast but it was the blowby was crazy. I should've ran it till it died cause I put a 350 it now.

    • @soildermike
      @soildermike 7 лет назад

      Ethan Brazee any idea what hp it was at on 18lbs?

    • @ethanbrazee4488
      @ethanbrazee4488  7 лет назад

      I never did add an intercooler. At about 5psi it did a good job of taking the edge off the gutlessness & was pretty snappy. 18psi pulled pretty hard & was probably pushing 200-220hp.just an estimate.

    • @ethanbrazee4488

      It was a turbo off of a Chrysler lebaron & I custom fabricated & welded it up.

    hey what did you do for fueling?

    • @ethanbrazee4488
      @ethanbrazee4488  7 лет назад

      I used a 1:1 rising rate fuel pressure regulator, and an inline booster pump, that's it. Aeromotive was the brand of the regulator I got.

  • @aliciaANDanthonySandoval
    @aliciaANDanthonySandoval 7 лет назад

    does it have forged internals? how much boost?

    • @ethanbrazee4488
      @ethanbrazee4488  7 лет назад

      I was running about 4psi & it was as stock as when it came out of the factory. It was real fun & took the edge off the gutlessness.
