A collector saw it on the show and ended up buying it from the owner.
When he said it was owned by the great one my heart stopped and I ran outside to make sure my car was still there.

@@buckbundy8642 LOL, I hope you get a difference between loves and “loves”, your typical polite “feel good” compliment. Danny “loves” everything when is is on this show. Doesn’t “love” it enough to pay $100 for it.
Going in I knew that Rick wouldn't buy the car. As we finished shooting the segment, Danny whispered to me, "we just sold this car for you" sure enough within two months of the episode first airing a buyer contacted me through The Pawn Shop and bought the car. We used the car for PR events, weddings, senior proms, rides for clients to and from the airport, local musicians to their gigs and even shot a music video with it. After years of heavy use and a lot of fun we sold it for triple what we paid for it. Thanks for the comments!

Thanks for this follow-up. I often think it'd be worth going on this show because even if you don't get what you want, you walk away with information and a big national TV advertisement.
I'm glad to see it worked out for you. I still remember driving a 1976 Town Car 30+ years ago. Even though it seemed as heavy as a bus and felt like sitting on a plush sofa, the car had some giddyup and drove well. Nothing I've been in since has compared to it for what it was. The cost of fuel and maintenance for it, even back then, was quite expensive. I'm nostalgic for the experience and good memories anyway. This video brought back some good memories of the great one Jackie Gleason and the amazing 70's Lincoln Town Car. Thanks for sharing it.

@@mam362 He was of course speaking the details to Rick (who is a Pawn Shop co-owner) he knew that the money that would probably be invested on it would be too much for him, so of course was gonna pass, glad that the other buyer took the gamble, is a unique limousine with cultural story for the United States, very interesting in me opinion.
Danny was waiting around the corner afterwards to buy it for $15K

Taking it to a Pawn Shop, rather then sell it to a collector who has a collection or to anywhere that has a mechanic..I think Danny is spot on.

To overcome the ugliness and crappiness of that limo, it'd have to be a much more well known celebrity or have actual historic significance. As it sits, it's an ugly limo owned by a celeb who will be fully forgotten in our lifetime.

@@jasonmichael3676 He may be, but he's not great enough to be relevant beyond our lifetimes.. and definitely not great enough to add value to that horrible limo. If it was owned by a true historical figure like Elvis, it'd be worth money.
Gleason was a truly fine actor and a great comic.
The world was a better place for him being here.
I remember seeing one of these in my hometown years ago (back in the early 80’s). My mouth always dropped open when I saw it because the car was just so freakin massive. We always saw the Caddies.., especially the 75 series with the jump seats, but these were rare. You don’t see many around today, even at car shows. You can see a ton of old Caddies, which is often the 75 series, but I’ve yet to come across one of these at any car show I’ve been too. There probably isn’t too many of them left.

As a child of the 70's cars were crap rust bucket I remember seeing the road thru the floor!!!

I can see where Danny is coming from. Say Rick buys the car. Danny quotes him a price for paint. Danny strips the car and now he has to go back to Rick and tell him the paint price doubled because he discovered patches of bondo and hidden rust. Having been in that position, going back to the customer and telling them their budget has grossly increased is no fun.
FYI. I googled it. Some rich doctor bought it off of the guy for 20,000

Limousines are hard to sell these days if you want a certain price for one,I used to work at an auto auction from 1998-2009 my boss bought an '86 Lincoln town car limo from a dealer who retired from the used car industry,it took him over a year to sell it
Target market for that limo: high schooler with $1,000 to burn and a few friends to impress.

Danny is such a standup kind of guy. He knew too much money needed to go in this car compared to what this guy wanted. He figured out a way to tell the truth without hurting his feelings with an actual value. Probably something more like 3500 not 35,000. Danny is one cool awesome dude.
Okay. So a $10k paint job, plus $5k for extra hidden bodywork along the way, begs the question - what would it sell for in restored condition?!
Minimum $50k for Rick to make any money.

Absolutely correct decision. Having rust in the middle of a body panel is relatively cheap and easy to fix, but that much rust along so many panel edges can lead to a horrific nightmare. Water follows cracks and joints and with that much rust covering so many panel edges, there might be a rust issue forming or already formed on the frame itself, so yup definite pass.
And stretch limo construction is notorious for being less than stellar.
I guess I spent too many years around Lincoln's. The first thing I noticed was the headlamp door system has is a vacuum leak and the vinyl roof is missing.

Danny is correct I know someone that spent nearly 20 K on rust repair and a paint job on a VW Beetle and they reproduce most of those parts but professionally cutting and welding ,prep,etc is costly to be done correctly some people may think my freind was crazy to put that much money into his car ? But that’s what he wanted to do and he has a Beautiful Classic that looks brand new

Update 🚨 I seen on the show collectors call , a man tracked that guy down and bought that limousine for 20k the appraisal for the limo on the show estimated it at 40k
I went to school in Mt Vernon NY in the early 70s n mid 70s, Art Carney would buy me n my brother and his Granddaughters ice cream on weekends off 630 gramatan ave, we walk over the cross county parkway and go to baskin robbins. I went to school with Kim Carney and her sister. Denzel Washington also went to our Elementary school, my grandmother ran a beauty school and trained Denzel’s mom to be a beautician.
-The expert's opinion doesn't really matter to me because the car was owned by Jackie Gleason. And you can't really put a price on that.
-I'm looking to get $35k and that's pretty much my bottom line.

I own a limo going on 17 years old and the problem with these big cars especially is they have got to be garage kept like any car and if there not it creates that huge problem and some have a vinyl roof as well that gets affected and allot of these cars are not kept inside because people have a hard time finding spaces to to fit them in.
