Why don't you guy's call this show " Let Me Call A Buddy "
You don’t customize a vehicle that you want to sell later. It’s for yourself.
Everyone who modifies cars knows that the resell value isn't the stock value + mods.
Plenty of buyers but u bring it to a pawn shop
You don’t customize a vehicle that you want to sell later. It’s for yourself.
Some people do it like a hobby project. So when it's done you have to sell it to take up another project. As he said you never get all the money back but it's for them its equivalent to go bowling or whatever else you do for entertainment
@Zap Rowsdower That's awesome. I have a friend who does the same with guitars. Puts great high end parts in mid range guitars and they sound just as good. He does it as a side buisiness but I really think he just loves the work. He does 3 a day almost.
Um, Counting Cars?. . .
Have you ever heard of restomod? They go for more than original examples LOL! Do your research dude!
Dumbest thing iv heard all day.
Everyone who modifies cars knows that the resell value isn't the stock value + mods.
Best way to make the money back or more, is to take it apart and sell the parts
No mods lower value
@@paulkenney1074 unless its a complete resto mod those will sell for more then a stock car anyday
Uhhh yes and no, depends on the car, and the mods but usually your correct when you say that, I’d say like 60/40 to it raise the vehicle value compared to other stock cars, but your right that 80/20 of the time you’ll always lose money on the car you build. So yea, keep it forever
@@Tgkjj
I think you'll find unless your charging hourly rate to build it for someone your losing money.
Sometimes people find the right buyer but that's the exception not the rule.
Plenty of buyers but u bring it to a pawn shop
There is a lot of prospective buyers for this type of car it's just many do not have the marketing knowledge and others just don't want to give up the time to advertise and sell either.
he got some free advertising
@@nunyabidness7463 as seen on tv now that's a sales pitch....
I know this show is staged
Never rush a car sale....wait your time and the right buyer willing to pay will appear
20 is probably the most fair offer I’ve ever heard from Rick
Fair is subjective
@@mikebryant5861 is say it’s dair
The general rule of thumb I’ve noticed in their shop is they want to make 40% of margin on every sale. That way it pays the bills, the staff, the fees, and also pads for the odd stolen item or fake that gets through and they still make a little money at the end of the day. This car was sweet but I think even after it was completed, the shop would be lucky to get 30k out of it. Purists will hate it and chop shoppers/hot rodders will want it bare bones to do their own mods. Tough sale all around but I think it would have been doable if the guy had come with everything done and the engine bay a lot cleaner.
$25k he would had go it. Sold it for $28/$30k
@@GenosGlory you're not taking into consideration all the things that need to be finished including the engine bay. 20,000 + 5,000 spent in the motor compartment, Plus two or three grand spent finishing off the interior and you're at 28,000.
He took a nice Mercedes & turned it into trash. Should've taken the 20k, that was way too generous.
Dude WRECKED the value on that car. Should have just done Rotisserie resto on it.
The car might have been a rusted out POS when he first got it. He did a LOT of work on this vehicle obviously.
Surprised he didn't have Nos and Neon Lights too?
How? Danny said stock original the car is worth about $22K and he was just offered 20K. Obviously if he built it from the ground up he didn’t pay much for the body. Your comment makes no sense.
If it was worth 22,000 he wouldn’t of offered 20 sounds like you made it worth more
thats subjective, if nothing is numbers matching, and parts were missing when he started what he did was understandable.
Car owner: "...and there's plenty of buyers out there." Then why are you at the pawn shop. 😂 😜
Unoriginal
Maybe he drove it 2 blocks down to the next pawn shop 😂
Tbh he didn't bring it to any ole pawn shop... he got some exposure from this that might make someone want it for even more
because the show is fake and staged
Free publicity. Why wouldn't you?
I agree with rick on this one 100%. This dude really ruined that car while expecting to get more money because “he made it worth more”.
Guessing from your comment you are older than the car itself
I am not sure that he ruined it, but agree that most of what he did is only things he considered valuable and most people looking at a car like this won't care about, much less pay extra for. He did, however, really narrow his market for the car- people looking for more of a classic car won't want most of that done for it, and a lot of the other stuff he did can be found in more modern cars already. I am surprised he was even offered 20k for it and I think that mostly because the exterior was in such good condition.
@@heartless604 almost haha
I won't go so far as to say he ruined it, but he definitely drastically narrowed down his market of potential buyers.
Dude kinda ruined a classic car by putting all those cosmetics on it. Believe it or not, that brings down the value for resale.
Exactly
And having no taste devalues it even worse
@@ericpisch2732 I agree. Very tacky.
Not quite. It dosent bring down value but rather u need money to restore it back to factory setting.
Unless you get lucky and find that one odd ball guy that really loves all the modifications and would be willing to pay a high asking price. But most people in the market for a car like this want it original.
Custom doesn't sell, stock does. That's what that owner doesn't realize. Stock cars are worth more money because they're simple and appeal to everyone. The simplicity of stock makes it easier for people to do what they want with the cars. When cars are custom, they only appeal to a small crowd and if someone bought a custom car that wasn't to their liking, they'll have to do a ton of work to get it how they want it.
This guy selling the car needs to understand Rick was going on spend 20 to get maybe 25 or 30gs in a couple a years. But true custom is a very select market. Easier to sell stock cars than custom anything
Stock has a real book value, custom is beauty is in the eye of the beholder only.
@@superj2644 and that guy also doesn't realize how much time, money, and energy Rick has to put into the car just to make it stock.
I would have given him 23000 if he put the original suspension and wheels back on.
these car episodes are staged, fake..he wasn't going to buy the car anyway....
As a German I can only say that he should go straight to jail for doing this to this vehicle.
For real??
Lol
As a Mexican I agree
As a russian I agree
as a middle eastern muslim, me and my 9 year old wife agree
Actually, to be entirely honest…this was one of the more reasonable offers. Rick was right, when collectors go after a car they want it restored. The pro said they can sell for around 20 like that. So Rick offered him 20. Really a fair offer IMO.
I was surprised at 20k, that was clearly a price for his personal collection. The dude should've taken the 20k....that was a gift...unfortunately he's basing his 28k price on what he put into....too bad his mods reduced the value
Never thought I’d say this but Rick offered him way too much.
my thoughts exactly, lowball offer would've been $7k and $15k would've been fair. $20k is outrageous for this car
Rare occasions
Hes liking it personally
@@mesofius your never suppose to lowball people it’s not nice
Car is cool and all, but 20k was actually a decent offer from Rick. He must of wanted it for himself.
Way too high honestly. It's worth in the high teens in that shape and modification.
Air bags alone or like 8k
Depending on brand
@@Im_in_your_skin I don't think the guy would sell just the air bags. And I don't think he would take 8k.
Yeah, it's a rich mans toy not a collectible. 20k is a very good offer. Dude should have taken it. IMO.
I wouldn't give more than $12k for it. It's basically cool, but ruined at the same time.
I would've taken the $20k and run. Custom vehicles are hard to sell. Hydraulics can be fun but true collectors will turn this down.
Dude should have done a stock resto before selling it.
@@Razor-gx2dq That would've been more money and deeper in.
Lesson of the day: Keep your Benz as stock as possible!
Yes a newer four cylinder Benz engine would be acceptable, and maybe some Benz alloys or later steel wheels. This is a monstrosity
Benz are worth Shiite if it’s not a top model. Junkyards full of them.
And your old watches!
Keep your car completely stock.... unless you're customizing it for your own enjoyment with zero plans to re-sell it unless it's numerous years upon years down the road.
That poor car... It was atrocious to see such a Mercedes transformed into that %%$$##$$.
He ruined that car, and should have taken the 20K.
I would have.
That offer was way too high for what he's done to this car. It was the only time I've seen Rick give an above market offer and the seller didn't even take it.
It's ugly....chum had it right Frankenstein version.
Who puts Hydraulics on a 1960s Mercedes, only a Ricer would think that looks good😂
Well, the W100, a 60's car, was designed from factory to come with hydraulic suspension.
So "ho puts hydraulics on a 1960's Mercedes" is answered by "1960's mercedes engineers do"
(but I do agree, what is shown here is evil and should be punishable by a carriage of snails slowly ripping out the perpetrator's eyes)
EDIT: correction, the w100 was originally made with air suspension, hydraulics were an option later during its run. My bad.
Just come on here to say how I miss the old man. What a gent
I miss him as well. But he is immortalized in the earlier episodes. It made me rather ill that when he died his family was fighting over his part of the pawnshop and it nearly closed the Gold and Silver Pawnshop for good. That is not a way to honour a beloved person that died in their family.
Why would you modify a classic car like that?!?!? Keep it original!!!!!!
Some people can't appreciate simple and original. Had he kept it I would have been fine because it was his. It all a matter of tastes. You sir have good taste.
@@drdre4397 sure, play with and modify your Honda Civic or jeep. But that classical car shown is uncommon and rare. At least keep the old original parts in case the new owner wants to restore it to original.
20 grand? That's a generously shocking figure offered by Rick, I thought he would have started at 10.
I love to see ppl stand their ground and hold off on selling.
Love how he all of a sudden knows there's plenty of buyers out their after not getting what he wanted 🤣🤣🤣🤣
When he pumps the airbags up and down, Rick laughs because it's stupid, and worth absolutely nothing to those who know what they are looking at. He laughs because he's about to make that money. lol
It really is funny when people think if you mod your cars it’s worth more… lol
People tend to want it original. Collectors want as stock as possible, and even people who want to mod it generally want it stock as possible so they can do their own mods and keep whatever other stuff they want original, not be stuck with someone else's specific mods. So yea, mods generally make a car worth less, not more, despite the owner feeling like he's "put money into it." That unfortunately doesn't usually equal greater resale value though. The only exceptions are if a car has a known issue that almost all owners will want fixed with a specific fix/mod, so if it already has that fix/mod done you're saving them the time of doing it themselves, but that's not what the guy did here.
"There's plenty of buyers out there. "
All you have to do is find them.
In 6 months he will wish he took the $20G.
I just sold one of dad's last restorations, as new paint, interior, and body work PERFECT, drive train complete and clean 455 big block, mileage a LITTLE high (70,000 original) all chrome as new. Price: what mos tof those cars are really worth NINE GRAND . Everyone thinks their 1/4 finished basket case is worth 30 grand and if the car is RUNNING, 60 GRAND. NO, it's not. And the age group that buys these cars already have one in their garage.
Old man would've flipped out looking at what had the seller done to the car 😂😂😂😂
That's a cool car, but would much prefer a stock '61 Merc 😉
Rest of it is ok.But the rim's just dont look like they belong.
Maybe in Las Vegas. I wouldn't want to be seen in it myself unless I was drunk and high.
Some classic white walls would have sufficed.
@@the-based-jew6872 I think 16s would *maybe* look ok, but he went to far with the 19s for sure... Then again I like meat on my tires because I enjoy driving them the way they were meant to be driven.
You are in a Pawn shop Mr. Mercedes.
Customising is such a personal thing, he'll struggle selling that until he finds that one person out there that wants this exact car and customisation....
Rick did and this guy passed .l think was fair offering him 20k since a restored fully stock goes for 25k ,
that has value ten yrs from now
the custom might not be working in ten yrs
He is right: there are also people that would buy the mona lisa in a pink scarf, or venus in fluo body paint. Those people would buy that car.
20k is a great deal, I thought he would say 15. Good job Rick.
I thought he would say 10k, guy ruined it
Car is trash and worth 6,000
If u look closely in the beginning rick doesn't look up until the guy says i got a custom car i want you to look at
The wheels are atrocious... Have that fake 3 piece wheel look sears sells
20k was a high offer, in mint stock condition $25k is a reach. Kent Burgsma had a nice 58 and it sold for less than 20k.
This care would have been five times more expensive if it was plain stock. Horrible tuning for a `61 Benz.
"Lets give Danny a call"
Danny pulls up, Que Undertakers biker entrance music...
Owner was a nice guy
Just because you've come down, doesn't make what you are asking any "fairer"
I mean its worth 16 in that shape.. different engine & drive line.. 25 to 50 depends what kinda drive line. Amg goes always ^
Nah...rims, air bags, trim and paint is worth more than 16k. He was stupid not to pick that up for 28k
@@andrewbartell8962 opinion is like a butthole, everyone has one.
Since it's already ruined, I say put a LS in it, it'd be cheaper to maintain than the old benz motor and the thing would scoot
It was a pretty cool car. Was fun to watch. Great video
25 inch wheels.....I pray he meant to say 24s lmao
I think a lot of people bring in cars like this strictly for the publicity with no real intention of selling it to the pawn shop.
Thank you for showing us these videos, kudos to team pawn stars
its all fake
A Working Man's Mercedes?? Didn't even think there was such a thing.
5 bucks it will take 10s of thousands to return it to it's former glory
Modifying a car that will appeal to the masses of interested buyers and get asking price is incredibly difficult. You'd need to have the "Magnus Walker Effect" on it, meaning that YOUR modifications are what makes the car. But the cheap chrome Chinese wheels and Bondo-shaved door handles are what tanked the value of the car for me.
the wheels were criminal
Those wheels and all the other half hearted costumised stuff are an insult to this beautiful car.
Greetings from all my heart to all the experts in all the specialties that you host. I wish them health, safety, success and progress in their work. With great thanks and respect.
You know its in Vegas when at 4:17 you can clearly see behind Danny's head a moving mini-van with its door open 😂
Anytime u modify a classic vehicle it decreases in value. The best bet is to have all factory original parts.
3:17
All of your gaps look really nice
ricks face:
What about it ?
3:41 look at the taxi driver lol
I will never understand people that think their custom dream car is everyone's dream car. My brother and I restored cars and motorcycles, never customize, they are worth a lot more simply restored. You don't buy a Benz or a Harley to butcher it, not if you plan on selling it.
If there are "plenty of buyers out there", sell it to one of them for 28k.
its always suspect when someone tells you there are plenty of buyers out there and how easy it will be to sell but is trying to sell it to a pawn shop
pretty nice posture with the client feet on the table😄😄😄
When rick says
"I feel the vibe on this one"
watching barrett and mecum. custom sells very well. it just has to finished and done well.
there were 2 things this car was missing, 1)being finished 2)being done well. Obviously "done well" is mostly subjective, but typically mods similar to the ones he had done tank the value of the car, as most people looking for a built car, dont want just for looks, they want a well done engine, maybe a rebuilt trans, and most collectors wouldn't touch it with a 10ft pole
0:21 I couldn't tell if it was the car trying to start or Rick's laugh 🤔
Beautiful and very beautiful show. I wish you health, peace, success and progress in your wonderful work. My greetings.
Did all the work and the hood ornament is about to fall off.
Looks awesome. Lots done, like Rick said, not a lot left to do.
This guy bamboozled himself... 20 grand for a modified 60s Mercedes and he did not take it ? Lol that couldn’t be me
guy: i have a 2011 quarter i'd like to sell. rick: i have no idea what a quarter is worth these days. let me call in a buddy.
I am a Mercedes guy and I've seen this make the rounds in ads for a while.
NOW, why would you do a Frankenstein job on a car like this unless you're keeping it.
There will n o t be another person who will want it like this and pay the money he wants out of it.....
I'm not a Mercedes guy, I tend to prefer classic American muscle, but I also thought the cars value was shot the second I saw it, thank you for confirming for me
Man this guy destroyed a classic car, he should have customized a purple Escalade instead of this.
Good luck finding a buyer, man. Nice work, but incomplete. Finish it and keep on trying.
Oh man! Only in the US they can distort a classic like this.

Can't expect auction prices from a pawn shop.
Agree with you
If you put money in a car your intent has to be to please you and yourself, not to make money. Years ago I read a book about a lawyer who loved cars and spent his retirement buying and selling classic cars. The title of the book: "How to Make a Fortune Small--My Life in the Classic Car Business." He spent his whole life studying and valuing Classic Cars and he still went broke in the business. If experts get creamed in a business, the market is too sketchy and everybody else needs to stay clear
It 100% depends on the cars and mods done to it, one like this... Well frankly he ruined any value it may have had
I would've let it go for 20k it was fair from Rick 😎👌🏼
"There's plenty of buyers out there. " No there isn't which is why you took it to a pawn shop.
