- Okay, so RUclips is now putting ads on my videos without my permission. Please, just refresh quickly until you get just the video. Here is my red dragon. I have lost track of this piece. If you know where it landed I would very much appreciate knowing. Visit me at www.GourmetPape... or www.PaperMacheB.... Thanks for watching!
You just made my day again Dan! So happy to see your. New post! Thought you were lost to us
Same. I actually considered unsubbing untill I saw this!
Sometimes life gets in the way of art. I have a bit of "life" to attend to. But I was able to do some art on the side. Thanks for your patience and kind words! I appreciate the support!
Holy cow I’m in love!
The color scheme and design is top notch! Especially love the contrast between the mouth/eyes and the scales!
Glad you like this one! I thought a lot about that color scheme. Glad you like it!
💖oh my goodness it looks SPECTACULAR!! You always seem to amaze me with your works! Its a beautiful piece of art!💖
You are very kind. I know that the videos look very similar. But I think this dragon turned out well. Take care
@@Gourmetpapermache Dan it’s been awhile. Are you still making sculptures? Hope all is well old friend
@@tommycrutchfield8422 Hi Tommy. Thank you for your note. Sometimes life gets in the way of art. That's what happened to me over the last year. Just lots of life stuff to do. Then I started a very ambitious art project, one that I've wanted to do for a long time. But it became clear that I wasn't going to get it done for a very long time. So I put that on the back burner once again and have since started a new project. I am underway and should have something to show in the next few weeks. I appreciate your concern. Hope all is well with you.
Dan
Rewatching your videos is truly a pleasure😌
You are very kind. Glad you like them. I am working on a new one, but it has been very slow going with lots of things getting in the way. Hopefully I'll have something soon. Take care
@@Gourmetpapermache Impatiently waiting for it😊
Love seeing all the new techniques!! Never disappointed by your videos!!
You are very nice to say that. Thank you as always!
YOU ARE BACK!!!! Thanks for the upload. You made my evening!
That's a very nice thing to say! Thank you!
You are so talented, when I saw the image to the video I couldn’t believe that he video was real, but I clocked it. I am so glad it did, keep up the good work!
I used to watch this as a kid and right now I'm back here, Beautiful! I love your paper mache piece
Thank you! I am happy that you have grown up with my videos! Take care
You're welcome! You too! ^^
It looks flawless! You’ve always amazed and inspired me with your work and I’m really glad to see you’re still creating awesome pieces!!
Nice of you to say. Not flawless, but I don't expect that. Thank you!
Thank you for your videos. I use them to show my elementary art students before papermache to get them excited about doing papermache. They love your art and laugh at your cat in the videos too. Thank you for sharing your talent.
You are very kind Natalie! Thank yo for the nice remarks and for doing this with kids. That's how I got started doing paper mache. It's a very messy project and can get the custodians angry. But such is life. It is worth a little flour in the rug! Good luck to you! (PS sorry I am just seeing your comment now. I didn't get notified for some reason)
Another great piece of art! Even tough we all know (and love!) the process, you‘ll always find something new to surprise us (and evolve your truly amazing craft as well)
You are very kind as always. Thank you for the nice comment!
wowie! you're back! nice to see you doing this again! :D
Thank you. I never really left. Just had a lot going on. I appreciate the nice comment!

Veigar... ¿What are u doing here bro?
Wonderful to get a new dragon to watch and little glimpses of the cats, welcome back, such a great dragon and you make it look so easy.
Thanks Chrissy! Nice to hear from you. These cats aren't as camera happy as my dear Eddie was. But every so often they pop up.
Glad you are still around! Yes, life sometimes gets in the way.
Looks great!
Thank you Lori! Nice to hear from you!
It’s so impressive with all the horns and spikes and all the little details!
Thank you Piper! Yes, details matter.
I’ve been watching your work over the past few years. Amazing to me how each piece is so unique even though it’s usually the same subject matter. So much talent in each sculpture!😊🌻
You are very kind. Thanks for the nice remarks. Life has gotten in the way of art over the last year or so, but I'm back doing art again. This project is quite different than the dragons I've been making. Hopefully it will be done soon.
Take care
Dan
The videos feel like they're from the early 2000's to me, but mainly because the music gives off that kind of vibe. I love it though, takes me back to my childhood. Awesome dragon either way!
Hello Sharon. I missed this comment. Sorry. I'm flattered that you returned! Thank you for the kind words.
I love these videos! The amount of detail and complexity you put into them is amazing!
That is very nice of you to say Andrea! Glad you like this one.
Wonderful job!
I've been watching your videos for a couple years now and I want to say thank you! Your art has inspired me greatly and I've tried my hand at a number of dragons myself.
I also appreciate the fact that you are very vocal with how you do what you do. I know some artists like to keep their methods to themselves so I appreciate you actively helping others.
Keep up the good work!
You are very kind Dovah Dave! Thank you for the nice remarks. I have always enjoyed knowing that others enjoy what I have to share. It's why I do it. Much more important that hoarding techniques. Take care and congratulations on you work! PS. I would be happy to post photos of your art if you are ever interested. If you are, just send photos to dan@gourmetpapermache.com.
Dan
Super awesome as always! Your dragon vids are honestly my absolute favorite!
You are always very kind. Thank you!
I came back to see your catio and cats and then happy to see them in the background of this video. My cat liked watching this video as well.
Thank you Shawna! So glad you and your kitties like the video! Take care
You keep getting better at it!
I've been doing this a very long time. It's all about practice. Thanks again Samuel!
The Dragons are Awesome and Detailed like always👌 keep up the great work Dan
Thank you Chad! I really appreciate the nice comment as always.
You inspire me so much! Sometimes I lose so much motivation. But after watching you it makes me wants to keep working at what I love to do, and keep thinking up ideas for cool pieces! Thanks! ❤
So happy to hear that! It's very flattering. Yes, keep working! Good luck to you!
As always your talent is very impresive. The amount of details make an epic work of art. Good to see you work Dan!!!!
Thank you so much as always! I really appreciate your nice remarks!
Came here to see if you've posted something new, ended up watching most of your work again haha it's so satisfying and the final products are always amazing ❤️😍

I've been watching your post for a few years now. I'm glad to see new post come up. As always your dragons are awesome. You have great talent 👍.
You are very kind. I'm flattered by your remarks. Thank you!
I'm not sure if you'll read this but I was wondering how you actually got the teeth to stay in?
I've been working on a Paper Mache mask for a local Festival, but I'm afraid the clay teeth will fall out of the mask if I just hot glue them due to the excess movement when i'm using the mask.
Do you know of a way to make sure the teeth are sturdy and won't fall out? I've tried looking for an answer elsewhere, but I never found one.
I first hot glue the teeth to the paper mache shell. Then I add the "cloth mache" strips on either side. You can see that in the video. That process will insure that the teeth stay put. Good luck!
Conocí tu canal en 2016 y la verdad que cada vez me sorprendiste mas y mas. Tus trabajos son espectaculares, felicitaciones! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*.✧
Eres muy amable. ¡Gracias por tus agradables comentarios! Estoy haciendo un gran esfuerzo para terminar otro proyecto y un video poco después. ¡Aprecio la motivación!
Surprises me how people even have the patience for this, also cute cat
Yeah so glad you are doing another one. So cool Thanks It is a blast to watch you work. And to see the Kitties. 👍😊
Thank you Debbie! I'm always doing art. I've just had lots of other things to attend to as well. I'll give the kitties a pat on the head for you!

You are very kind Gabriella! Sometimes I think it's just same old same old. Glad you like this one.
Still truly one of my bucket list to have one of your works up at my wall! 😍 But so glad to see you back on YT!

Thank you Rishi! Glad you like this one!
Came when I got the notification! Great work, as always!!

@@Gourmetpapermache you are most welcome.
Those kitties were having no part of the dragon! lol
As usual, another killer specimen created. So cool your work is being purchased and in the public eye!
Thanks as always Debbie! Hope all is well.
Where can I find your works? Are they in an exhibit somewhere? They look so nice!!!
Thank you for the kind words. They are not concentrated in one place. They are everyplace I have sold something,, but usually that means people's houses, and a school or two.
These are the type of channels that should have millions of followers. ❤
What a nice thing to say! Thank you very much! I must say though that I never worried about how many views my videos received. I never monetized my videos because I hate the ads. The ones they put on now are done without my permission or compensation. It makes everything less fun. So a comment like yours just makes my day. I'm very happy that you enjoy the videos. Take care
Dan
@GourmetPaperMache_ Thank you for your answer! I was thrilled to read you. It is great to hear you dont do this for business, but for passion and sharing the joy it brings to you. Still I believe many more should be inspired by your work. It is simply worthy. Many hugs!! take care. 🐲❤️🔥
Thank you for posting this! The red looks so realistic, great job!
You are always very kind. Thank you as always!
Truly amazing work again, Dan! I love how the color scheme and the breastplate pattern turned out. Do you mind telling me what you used to sculpt the horns on this dragon?
Thank you! For these I used a pre-mixed air dry clay. I can't remember the brand but you can get it at any craft store.
Too beautiful I love. we do not imagine the work of titan that is behind, bravo! super assistants, they were a little afraid in the end poor :-) continue we love your work

This color is Beautiful and this music mr.groumet
Glad you like this dragon. And I'm happy you like the music I chose. I look hard to find music I like.
Hi! Me and my room mate have been wanting to attempt doing paper mache projects for a variety of things, (especially masks and costume armor) and I saw your mask tutorial and it helped understand so much! I found you through a paper mache forum community and all I heard was praise of your work so I went to see for myself, and I'm super happy I found your channel, its helped understand a good process of how you approach it. I did have a few questions if you know the answers: Do you feel like your finished project is safe to have outside when its done, ex. Like armor and masks in humid places or light rain weather? And if not do you have any suggestions of what might be a good top coat to protect it? I've heard a mix of people saying painting on a layer of glue or just using spray paint finisher/coverage to help, and wanted to know if you have any experience/preference in those regards. Either way, thank you so much for your videos, it's helped out my planning so much!! Super excited to start!
Hello!(im russian) please, translated your tekst! I am very interested in English!I know a little of your language. By the way I'm waiting for the new video to come out.
Hello Luna. Thanks for the nice comment! Paper absorbs moisture from the air. There is very little you can do to a paper mache project to make it weatherproof. Eventually it will decompose no matter what you do. Adding layers of spray finishers will help, but it will also change the way the project looks. Having said that, you can make them to last for light rain and short term uses outdoors. Just make sure you use exterior grade paints. You can also use exterior grade glue instead of whatever paste you use in the paper mache process. That will basically impregnate the paper with plastic. But it is expensive, about $50 a gallon. Good luck to you!
@@ОлдИн I am working on a project. I do not know when it will be done. But thank you for your interest!
GourmetPaperMache Thanks so much!! We'll keep it in mind while working on them!!

I wonder how many days it would have taken you to design it and then build it. Absolutely incredible
It actually took a few months to make. Thanks for the nice comment!
I just found your channel by finding your amazing Darkness tutorial by accident and I'm awed by your creations! I see you haven't posted a video in a couple years. Hope you're doing well, and I'll be looking out for any future videos you may have when you're ready to upload again.

Espero volver pronto. ¡Feliz año nuevo para ti y tu familia!

@@Gourmetpapermache I absolutely love your work, I'm always showing people I know how awesome your sculptures are with the humblest of materials. Keep creating, you are inspirational.
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve been waiting for another video!!! You never fail to amaze me 💕🥰
Thank you for your patience! I've had a lot going on. Glad you like this one!
These videos are awesome! The only good instructional content on paper mache I've found. I have two questions: what do you use for paste? and how do you get your paper mache to be so smooth?
Thank you Aaron! The time lapse videos are more for entertainment. My blog (link in description) is a lot better for instruction. I usually use flour and water (in about equal measure) paste with the newspaper for the paper mache pieces. After sculpting with those pieces (using masking tape) I add a "skin" of cloth, old bed sheets dipped in white glue. I prefer Elmer's Glue All for the "cloth mache." Good luck!
Dan
Your work is insane! Love it!
Thank you so much Richard!
Hello! I don't know if I have asked you before, but do you take commissions to do this kind of thing? Your work is amazing and would love to have something like that on my wall!
Hello again Sam. Thanks for your interest! I do sell some projects. And I have done many commissions. But I have stopped doing commissions for a while. I have a couple of my own projects I want to do first. They have been on the back burner long enough. I do put some projects up for sale though. I post then on my website, here, gourmetpapermache.com/art-for-sale/. Take care
Dan
You just got a new subscriber. Wonderful work. The only paper mache I ever have done was in 1st or 2nd grade and we made maracas with a light bulb core after the paper dried ( water & flour ) we smacked them on the table till the glass broke inside, so they made noise, then painted them. Funny that I still remember that. That was eons ago. I may try something a little more challenging...lol
Thank you very much! I appreciate the comments! It's those paper mache projects from elementary school that made me want to change the way this versatile medium is used. That has been my goal for many years.
Anyone else think this was gorgeous before the painting? It could have stayed white, had some touches of silver, and been an ice dragon.
They always look good in white. That means that the sculptural aspects work well.
How do you not get the fabric lines to show or all the strings to hang off? I’m working on a dragon now and all the bits of fabric and the strips are super apparent
I pull the strings off before I add the piece to the project. It is a hassle I know. But tearing the cloth helps hide the seams. Good luck!
dude you are my first subscription and I am looking at you after half a decade.. I realized you are from Seattle.. we live close! come back on youtube!! you are spectacular.. cheers..
You are very kind! Yes, I have been in a terrible artistic slump the last year and a half. Sometimes life gets in the way of art. That has been true for me. But I'm working again. It's just that the piece I am making is taking a lot longer than usual to finish. Hopefully soon. Take care! PS. that was quite a snow we had! Hope you enjoyed it!
I love seeing your artworks and have recently been using your videos as inspiration/help for a dragon of my own as a project for gcses. They have been very helpful! One thing though, how do you go about layering or mixing the colours? Paint is not my strong point.
Hello Ella. So sorry, for some reason I was not notified of this comment. Glad you find my videos to be useful! I first do an initial paint job. Nothing fancy, just one or two colors. Then I "blackwash" which means I paint watered down black paint onto the project and wipe it off before it dries. Finally I dry brush on some highlights. Just use a little paint on a brush and hit the high spots. Good luck!
@@Gourmetpapermache Thank you! I will try my best. Its going very well so far :)

Excellent! Very glad to help! Good luck!
Can you please tell me what the white fabric looking stuff you are using is ?
That is cloth (old bed sheets) dipped in white glue.
That looks amazing! What type of paint do you use?
Thank you very much Mystery Man! I use all purpose water based paint. Just like you use to paint your house. Any kind of paint will work.
Thank god your'e there! You have big talents!
Thank you. You are very kind. Yes, I am here!
excellent the best plastic artist in this world
You are very kind. Thank you!
How do you make the scales, nostrils, and leave no seams in the cloth mache?
I missed you glad to see your ok
Thanks Marco! Just had a lot of stuff (non art) going on. But I always do art every day.
How do you stop the armature from sticking to the paper mache that you use to make the mouth? It cuts open and removes so nicely.
Sorry, just now seeing your question. I don't do anything fancy. I make sure that the "shell" is fairly thick (5 or 6 layers of paper) and completely dry. Then the crumpled paper will just pull away from the outer layers after it is cut open.
This is so sick! I’m gonna have to try this as soon as I have time after college!
Thank you! No, you should drop out and make art! ha ha. Study. Then make art. Take care

Hey Dan! Just some wishes from Switzerland. I hope, you and your loved ones (including cats) are allright and that you were able to use some of this Corona-Chaos for new amazing dragons. Cheers 😊
Hey there ChrigiFilmer. Thank you for the very nice comment! I am doing well although I've had a lot to deal with lately that has held me back from working on my art. But I have started a new project and should have something to show soon. I hope all is well with you too. Yes, I can see from your login you are a dragon lover. I'm flattered that I am worthy of your subscription! Thanks!
How do you power your LEDs? Do you use a battery or do you wire in a wall adapter?
I use the battery powered. They are not meant to stay lit.
Ahh I love your work so much!
How long does each piece take you? What paper mache mix do you use? How long have you been doing dragons for?
Do you sell them?
Which one is your favorite out of all your magnificent beasts? 🥺💕
Thank you for the kind words. I'm happy that you like the work! Every piece takes a different amount of time depending upon the detail etc.. It can takes weeks or even months. I use flour and water paste for the newspaper. I've been doing this work since 1972. I make lots of different things but I always come back to dragons. I do sell some on commission and on my website (you can see the ones I have for sale under the "art for sale" tab). My favorite project is always the one I finished last!
Love to see you work, Mr. Reeder. I just bought a couple of your older books (which have become difficult to source) and I can't wait to share them with my kids. My brother and I have simple Screamers from LHES somewhere in Bellevue. Do you still have some of your older works? The more satirical and comical pieces? I think it would be fun to see those again.
Hello Leo! What a nice surprise! So glad to hear from you! For some reason I have settled into dragons for a while. I have a couple other, non dragon projects to get to. Your comment makes me think I need to get to them. Sounds like things are well with you. Kids! I'd just had mine when I worked at LH. Congratulations.
