2017 F-type R owner here... just wanted to share some thoughts for those that maybe shopping for either. Having driven both there were three noticeable differences. Handling for sure has been greatly approved for those who drive spirited. The car feels way more planted when putting power through the turns. The ZF transmission has been tweaked and i found it to be noticeably quicker while in auto and while using the paddles. Now where i think jaguar ruined the car for me, is the exhaust. You can actually hear it turning on and off depending on what rpm youre at. It feels extremely artificial and took the excitement out of the car... you're losing all the obnoxious pops and crackles ive grown to love. i would imagine if youve never driven an older model (2019 or older), you wouldn't really be affected by this. also not a big deal... while i like the new updated HUD... the plastic/glass material theyre using seems really cheap and has tons of glare. Thanks for these f-type vids, exoticCar.
Thanks a lot Isaac for you wonderful comment. That is a great bit of detail that is insightful which is great for those shopping for either. The 1st car is so good that it was hard to beat and they tried but not sure they succeeded. By no means is the new car bad, it is still really great, it’s just as you say, and I have also found is the exhaust sound is a bit reduced and the lights for me were also not an improvement.
Wow bro bro thanks man! I am building my credit to get one of these. I have the job. I want a 2017 to 19. This answered all of my concerns from someone with personal testimony. The crackles and pops is exactly what I want.
@@ECPP I think the reason for the reduced exhaust note is the European Regulations. Someting like the exhaust sound cannot be over a certain amout of DB. So I figure Jag just got lazy and said we'll just make the same car for the rest of the world. Even though the rest of the wold doesn't have any such regulation. At least North America doesn't.
Looks like I'm one of very few that find the new headlights beautiful and more aggessive (more exotic aswell). Luckily opinions differ otherwise it would be a boring world. Would take either one if I ever could

They are both gorgeous, but for me the older, original Callum design takes the cake. I just got the 2016 R in ultimate black with all the snap crackle and pop. Only 27,000 miles and still looks brand new. A bargain for $50K.
Definitely prefer the original one. Old headlight design separates it more from the rest of the sedans. Think the original ones will be the classic people remember in the future. Still one of the best looking cars on the road.
The older headlights for me all of the time. They hark back to the XK220 shape and just ooze Jaaaag! I would understand if there were a lot of complaints with the older R but not many, so a true enthusiast will always pick for the older one in my opinion. Thanks for taking the time to show this.
I have not driven either year yet but I’m already leaning to the 2016-2019 model for the more classic look and sound one would expect. Thanks for the great comparison. The SVR is destined to become a collector and on my radar
I agree they are amazing cars and I have some friends up there that are driving a Prpject7 and that is yet another level. They are amazing cars no less.
I'm currently shopping these now, and I seem to be leaning toward the previous generation model. I think it looks better and, if I'm going to get a car of this nature, I want all of the dramatic noise and fanfare that comes from the older model's exhaust. I like my sports cars a little more on the loud and brutish side. If I wanted something tame and polite, I'd get an MB sedan.
I have a 2015 and when I put it right next to a brand new 2023 they look exactly the same that's what I love about this model. They are Amazing cars I'll never own anything but Jaguar .
F-Type may very well have made to the top of the list for my favorite modern sports cars. Just wish I could afford one. But not with the 4-banger. It occurs to me that Jaguars have always had 6 or more cylinders and engine displacements much larger than 2.0 liter. I may still tend to favor the outgoing model since it may still have more classic Jaguar look to it. But the differences are very subtle with the exception of maybe the front of the car.
I have a 2015 RWD F-Type R; must say the new one does look nice, but I still prefer the original, and the rear-wheel drive for the 2015 R makes it way more fun to drive. Also, mine doesn't have the upgraded software, so it still has the original exhaust sound.
I'm planning on getting an out going Type R versus the SVR. Any recommendations? Is it worth it to up the budget for the SVR or just stick with Type R?
Did you get an F-Type? I’d 100% get the R over SVR. Mostly because the engine and trans are identical. I’d get the VAP tune and have more power than an SVR.
Recently checked out a 2014 blue low Km. Jaguar f type soft top . Beaut car ! Couldn’t pull the trigger as timing not right. Thanx COVID! Now Tracking 2014 -2016s. Ok with the midsize engine as plenty of power and price point is lower . What I notice is low inventory across all of Canada and only a few in BC. When u. factor in the soft top even less. Recent visit to Jaguar showroom here confirmed I’m not a fan of coupe. No biggie as I have the patience to find the right car. Great vid explaining differences 2!
Thanks a lot Paul, you are right, there are not a ton of these cars around in general and then narrowing in further makes it a diamond. Are you lookinng at the Manual car as an option?
@@ECPP I would like the manual as fiance drives a BMW z3 stick. Drived stick since high school and owned a solstice GXP turbo for 6 years. That is not happening again. Used Jaguar in that amazing blue! I could drive around vancouver lower mainland for years and not see 2 of those! The guy that bought it had it shipped back east. Other choice is 2016 Mercedes Benz 350 SLK with the extra hp boost. Drive a GMC truck for work so not a daily driver. Thanx
one of the cars in my collection is F type R 2017. I do like that one better. Not sure if i care about the headlights or the hood that much for the new one.
I didn’t like the new model at first but 1 year later it’s grown on me and I prefer it. Never did like that bumper bar in the middle of the grill on the old one. Also, if you can afford to risk an occasional ticket then I would not put a license plate on the front of the car. Cops have better things to do, usually. I paid for 2 tickets in the 14 years I owned my 350Z rather than compromise the looks of the car.
Hey Mark, Great information and content as always buddy. I still like my 2015 R as my car is a one off, vents and hood diff from them all and only RWD of course. I would like the new engineering upgrades, I am sure they are worth considering a new car for.... I just love the one that takes me to the dance.!
Much prefer the 2017 type R, more aggressive and more beautiful than the new one, and the noise is to die for LOL. Great video comparison and from Alberta too :-)
I think both look awesome. Will get 1 of these in the next year or 2. The older model is the classic jaguar style, the new model has that more aggressive modern look. My plan is to get a well looked after model with low mileage. Either will do for me.
I still like the old XK better, more practical and comfortable as a road trip Grand Tourer... also the XK's build quality is better, no squeaks and rattles.
I see where people are saying it looks like an aston or granturismo, but tbh the headlights on the old version look like a suped up nissan 350z. Everybody has a different preference, I prefer the new look, but both are aggressive.
Sure... I'm sure that there are lines out the door waiting for the 4-cylinder in that car. Along with pedals for the passenger. Regardless, the "older" body style is far better, in my opinion. I can appreciate the need to refresh the style of nice cars. But some features do not make sense. The noodles? Prime example right there.
lol, for sure Thomas. The new car is slightly better in every way, but what counts the most and that is style and sound which is what made the F Type what it is today. Still an amazing machine and cant go wrong either way, but i will stay with mine right now.
Considering all the $$$$$ you saved buying slightly used you did very well and are both nice vehicles regardless. I would hope its possible to remove the license plate bracket on the new one if not necessary, ruins the looks of the grill.
That was a hard one to guage Mark. I like em both! I might be a little bent towards the new one only because of headlights! Put a black license plate on there and I think I'm good with that! But If it doesn't sound like yours, that's a strike against it! Lol
True Steven, it is splitting hairs really because both have benefits and I would summarize and say that one is not really better than the other, just different.
As the owner of a 2015 F-Type R, I must say that I prefer the original front-end. The new one is too generic and reminds me of an Audi or a Mustang. The new F-Type slots in better with the rest of the Jaguar lineup, but I don’t think that is necessarily a good thing. A facelifted car that looks better than the original design is an extreme rarity. Manufacturers want to entice buyers with something “new,” but they often dilute the purity and cohesiveness of the original design for the sake of change. Original designs start with a clean sheet of paper, and the result is the best effort that the design team can manage within given constraints. If later tweaks and changes were aesthetically “better,” then they likely would have been included in the original design. Also, don’t believe Jaguar’s “official” 0-60 times. The best time I’ve seen for a stock RWD F-Type R is 3.4 seconds, and an AWD can knock one or two tenths off of that.
Many thanks for your comment. I also agree with all of that. Wonderful original design and the old term why fix what’s not broke. Porsche proved this theory with the 911. Drastic changes with that car happens over decades instead of a couple years. Also agree on the performance, the 0-60 mph times are absolutely insane and they provide conservative times which are easily achieved by anyone, but there are certainly more potentials there. I have seen an awd R making 3.1
2016-2017 R coupe all the way as it’s AWD and you can find them for HALF the msrp of around $110k with under 25k miles on them. The depreciation slide levels off after 3-4 yrs and you should still have factory warranty remaining, especially on a CPO. Remember, these have a 5, 6 or 7 year/ 100k mile factory transferable warranty! If you test drive an F-Type R, or even an S for that matter I dare you not to smile at least once during a 5 mile drive, seriously, you can’t not smile. BTW, I’m in the market for a White or Red one as I type this if anyone has one ; )
I agree Brian, the bright Red is stunning and the white is very attractive with great contrast with the white and black on this car. You are also right that these cars are smile inducing and I would say a good chance if you had a clean drivers record before this car, you probably won't after.
Also, the black pack with black wheels is a must for me with Red or White. And I agree, both mine and my wife’s clean driving records will unfortunately be tarnished, but worth it.
A nice touch would have been to say which years you're comparing instead of new and out going model. Now that a few years have passed an average viewer has no way to tell what you're comparing
Great to see them both together but I personally won't be buying one as I'm still in love with my 2014 F-Type coup RWD. So much more fun, even in the wet.
Bought a 2016 F-type in 10/2021...fully knowing all about the new one. Prefer the old front end, prefer real dials (we have a car with a really good LCD gauge cluster and it is meh....
I totally agree, the older designs are better in my opinion. The slight bump in power is easy to make up with little issue, not that 25HP feels like much by the seat of the pants
@@ECPP So I decided to upgrade my f-type recently, which is including ACC, ABS, New LED headlights, 360 degrees 3D camera, and an led display steering wheel, that cost about 23000 CAD😂
Why the new F-type is more quieter and lacks of pops and bangs is because of the new gasoline particle filter as the new emission laws are kicking in, well that's what I have heard!!
I prefer the previous design. I’m going to be test driving a 2020 f type svr tomorrow. F type would make people stand out from the crowd out of the other brands from German sports cars and others

ExoticCar PlayPlace only thing I hate about jaguar is the infotainment system. if buy newer facelift version is there a way can delete artificial sound from exhaust in the new f type’s ?
The older model is better looking and sounding. The 2 reasons people buy this car. Looks. Exhaust. Nothing else needs to be said. Coming from a 2018 frype owner. Sad to see i hope they change the front in the future again. This is not the look
The new one looks more like a slick, lowered Mustang front end. Not sure I really like the look. The older one is flat out sexy! Has that Jaguar elegant feeling but also has that aggressive look.
Outgoing car has a balance that the new one doesn't - because that's how it was originally designed. The headlights and the flow of the air vents on either side of the grille are designed in cohesion with the overall looks and proportions of the car. The new one completely throws that out the window. Yes the headlights look sharper, but in a more edgy way, not an elegant way. And the F type is elegant before it's edgy. The proportions of the new headlights are also out of wack, they get way too close to the wheel arches, and don't have enough space around them to actually shine in their own right. On the other hand the bonnet becomes too massive for this style, and as a result looks heavier and more imbalanced. Aston did this right because they actually designed an entirely new car where such headlights were integrated to match in cohesion with everything else. Jaguar just added it to an existing design, and it completely loses its original flavor, but without gaining something truly new and unique. Old one will always be the best one, the original with gill intakes is still the best (because it's the original design).

The new one looks more current & meaner...but more generic. Take a look at a front-on view of the Mazda 3! 😁 Oh the shame!
Original Callum design FTW!
A nice touch would have been to say which years you're comparing instead of new and out going model. Now that a few years have passed an average viewer has no way to tell what you're comparing
Thanks so much. Cheers
Great to see them both together but I personally won't be buying one as I'm still in love with my 2014 F-Type coup RWD. So much more fun, even in the wet.
I believe the new F Type isn't available with a V6 engine anymore. Choices are 2.0 I4 turbo or 5.0 V8 SC, latter either in 450 bhp or 575 bhp version
Awesome episode!! Cool car
Thanks a lot. Cheers
Finally someine is talking my concerns. The old one is still suitable with the depreciating cost and no value lost with the cool looks
Thanks a lot for watching. These F types are amazing cars
Nice review... like out going model.....
Thanks, same here. Cheers
I'm a 2018 F-type owner here, I will still pick the old one. I don't like the new headlight design.
I totally agree
@@ECPP So I decided to upgrade my f-type recently, which is including ACC, ABS, New LED headlights, 360 degrees 3D camera, and an led display steering wheel, that cost about 23000 CAD😂
They both look very amazing at their point Jaguar should make new F-TYPE an another segment
They are beautiful and amazing to drive too
your dslr kept focusing on your hand gesture ...i know why you do it but ugh
Why the new F-type is more quieter and lacks of pops and bangs is because of the new gasoline particle filter as the new emission laws are kicking in, well that's what I have heard!!
Maybe but that’s why I will keep my 2018
@@ECPP Have you heard the new AMG GT Black Series? Well, nobody has!😂 The cars are getting more quieter for every year to come!
I like the out going front and hood better, but the like the new one back.
Great review bro. I personally prefer the new one, It's perfect. Definetively my dreams car
Thanks. Either way, you can’t go wrong.
I prefer analogue dials and the rounder type rear lights a,d fron lights, so the older design is for me
Cheers
Great review, would have been nice to hear the new one.
I prefer the previous design. I’m going to be test driving a 2020 f type svr tomorrow. F type would make people stand out from the crowd out of the other brands from German sports cars and others
Awesome job bro!
I prefer the previous design. I’m going to be test driving a 2020 jaguar f type svr tomorrow. The F type would make you stand out from the crowd out of the other brands from German sports cars and others. previous F Type design looks 100x better
I totally agree and that’s why I bought one. It is so much more interesting than its rivals.
ExoticCar PlayPlace only thing I hate about jaguar is the infotainment system. if buy newer facelift version is there a way can delete artificial sound from exhaust in the new f type’s ?
Like them both, back in the day I would of brought both!! 😄😄
Many Thanks, Peace From London. 🙏🙏
I prefer the old one. The front looks more in line with the classic F type front end. Why mess with perfection?;)
I like the grill, tailights and interior of the new one, but the old one has better headlights
The older model is better looking and sounding. The 2 reasons people buy this car. Looks. Exhaust. Nothing else needs to be said. Coming from a 2018 frype owner. Sad to see i hope they change the front in the future again. This is not the look
I prefer the old one.much better with fantastic appeal
Thanks, I agree
The new one looks more like a slick, lowered Mustang front end. Not sure I really like the look. The older one is flat out sexy! Has that Jaguar elegant feeling but also has that aggressive look.
I have the 2015 and love the car.
For sure. Great cars
Old is gold......love my SVR....
What's the best Audi to buy?!
RS7 which is still not as good to drive as the FTyoe R
@@ECPP ok....what's the best BMW to buy?!
@@leshawnwalker8439 well it is the .........[another video]
@@ECPP I'll watch the video. Ur opinion on the A7 Audi?!!!
I had the old ftype R and the soung it was amazing !!!!! It is the best
They are amazing
Keeping my 2013 convertible
Me, too. Best sound ever.
My next car: Jaguar F-Type
They are amazing
Cool video. Done well
Outgoing car has a balance that the new one doesn't - because that's how it was originally designed.
Old one will always be the best one, the original with gill intakes is still the best (because it's the original design).
previous model v8 vantage for me thanks. don't like the new styling of the F-type or the vantage
You can’t get the V6 anymore. Only the older model has the 3 litre V6
My 2015 F-Type is my daily driver. I'd take that one over the new version.
The old headlights and taillights are way better
Thanks, yes I also love the headlights on the old car better too.
i go with the old one...
The new one looks like it has mustang lights. Nothing really sets it apart anymore
True
The best Jags are the X308 and X350 XJRs with the supercharged 4.2 V8.
Ok, Y didn't😒 u start both cars so we could hear them???
