I watched your video before I got this stuff and thought you were exaggerating about the taste. Lol. But yeah I'm just back here to say this review is 100% accurate. Lmao 👍👍
My meal replacement drink:
1 x raw duck egg
Cup of raw milk
Creatine
Unflavored whey protein.
Handful of blueberries
Liquidize and enjoy! Delicious.
Soylent yellow and Soylent red
The phytoestrogens in soy (isoflavones) are not hormonally active in mammals. Its called phytoestrogen because it has a similar shape to mammalian estogen but doesn't have the same effect. It can loosely compete with estrogen to receptor binding sites but doesn't cause the effect casacde that estrogen does. This is why soy products can help women who are going through menopause. The phytoestrogens can block the endogenous estrogen on some of the binding site and symptoms such as hot flushes and night sweats. Displaying a picture of a graph without properly citing the sources is either disingenious or a rookie error.
Huel chilli is the one. and for drinks, chocolate and caramel coffee.
The word doctor here with you wearing scrubs is a bit of stretch considering you have a PhD in earth science and are not a medical doctor
Huel does look like dirt
@@pr0fess0rbadasslol
Regardless he would need to be a nutritionist to know anything about it.
It's very disingenuous
True but anybody with a doctoral student can technically add Dr to their title, and it's not like he stated Medical doctor in the title
Thx for an honest review and not someone who is cringing, almost gagging while eating it at the same time saying, "omg this is so delicious"
😂 glad you enjoyed
Perfect
Exactly what I needed 👍👍
Glad it was useful 👊
Anyone else get an ad for Huel before this review of Huel?
Nice shot
This is a REALLY balanced and informative video. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! Appreciate the comment
It's not balanced, it's misinformed. Soy does not increase estrogen load in the body.
Informative video. Gorgeous man.
Love your work man.
I appreciate that James 👊️ let me know if you want me to cover anything, I'm running out of ideas
There are also many studys not implying that link with soy and testosteron. It's widely accepted to be chance, to have some stidys imply that link. In Nutricional science at least. (Got a bachlors degree in sports- and nuticionalscience from uni Hamburg)
I still might try it myself. Getting home late and can’t be arsed to cook anything, having a Huel meal once or twice a week probably won’t do me any harm tbf
That was helpful. Thanks.
👊️
I the the original white huel powder but i use normal whole milk instead of warer. Its way better with milk
Thank you for sharing it
I'm so sick in the morning and tired for the first 3 hours so I never get breakfast
Nice review sir

"If you don't have time to eat, either your priorities are wrong, or your actually being oppresed". I replayed and laughed multiple times. It's funny because it's true.
@2:47
What did Mike make? - It looks lovely.
Wanted some info on Huel and didn't expect life advice, still its great advice and gave me a bit of insight.
😂 life advice comes as a free bonus
Enough bonus checks to afford food I see
@@thedarkelbow Ahahaha hello from Planetside and Casuals.
Just discovered your channel, and you are a real DON!! It's a thumbs up from me! 🔥🔥
Thanks MK! I appreciate it - got some corkers coming up over the next few weeks

🙏️ glad you enjoyed
perfect and fair review!
i use the hot and savoury meals for camping and when i schedule my day too tight haha
nice video
Thank you, for your honest opinion. I had thought about purchasing the product, now I’m not so sure.
Sorry Huel - doing them out of a bunch of sales 👀
I am not of that flavor but I like my other two sweet and sour and Thai green curry.
Did not know that about the flaxx seed stuff... I do enjoy the kevins natural foods brand, Ill have to look at what all is in their food.
The problem many face is not that we don’t have time to eat it’s time and energy to think about a meal, cook and prepare it.
Thank you for this review! It REALLY helped me to decide. Great sense of humor 👌
Glad it was helpful Anna 🙏️
I’m a lorry driver who works nights and don’t have access to a kitchen (except a microwave and kettle at my stop) for dinner so that’s why I’m looking at getting this, not so sure now after seeing this video..
They don't do tasting samples for a reason 👀
This is about the best review I’ve heard to date
come to canada
Nothing dodgy? Aside from all the seed oils?
Just eat normal healthy food and food with minimal ingredients, pretty simple.
I have to travel a lot for college and can’t really make meals at my uni so this is great for me but I would only use it once a day
What's the recipe of the better bowl that Mike prepared? Only the second person I've ever heard use the wonderful adjective, Byzantine. A client I was on the phone with didn't like my answer and replied, "Oh how Byzantine." Love the review! Ain't buying it.
😂 glad you enjoyed. It's a reference to a film, Dead Man's shoes
I'll ask Mike for the recipe
At first I had your concerns about the flax, but I am happy to say I eat HUEL for two meals a day (shake in the morning and hot and savory for lunch) and I am leaner and more muscular than ever. It doesn’t taste amazing but I think it’s a good convenient option for people looking to make a positive change and the studies on flax aren’t conclusive
I spent some time googling the claims about estrogen levels - it yeilded only a few very weak links at that, on the whole it seems like it was a more "Soy Boy" style meme, rather than something derived from studies.
*From their site which references studies:* "The consumption of phytoestrogen from flaxseed does not appear to affect sex hormone metabolism in males or females, principally due to the phytoestrogens from flaxseed being lignans rather than isoflavones[40, 41]."
But I may be wrong, there could be papers I have not seen. I will be using this to bulk up and gain muscle - so will report back in a year or two :)
@@HunterOfArc let me know how it goes! I use it for the opposite since its pretty filling for 400 calories. Science is changing all the time but i personally did not feel or see any ill effects from it.
Well you didn't even follow the cooking instructions. You place cold water into the microwave, and then you leave if for 5mins after it comes out of the microwave before eating
I'm sure that 5 minutes made all the difference 😂
The water was boiled from the kettle
@@PropaneFitness yes because that's when the powder combines with the water. In the microwave you are purely heating the water.
Thanks for that
I gotcha tooty tooty
Nice info about the eatrogen. Anymore videos on that topic
Hey - you'd love this video: ruclips.net/video/zN7oxGV0ASI/видео.html
Flax is hormonally active in people suffering from PCOS?
Ok, as a male I can't say I'm too concerned, my ovaries are perfectly healthy.
Glad to hear your ovaries are healthy
£2.66 per meal now
I'm gonna give my input here because I think this is actually a good product in my opinion. I wanted something that was easy to make and packed with nutrients. For me, this is a meal addition, not replacement. The way you prepped it was not how they instruct you, and maybe that's changed in the past year. They sent me with a black cup and lid that you put the scoops in, boil water, pour it in the Huel cup, put the lid on, and let it sit for about 5 min. Also, I add a bit of pink sea salt to help with the flavor and shake it up to mix. I think this helps with flavor a lot. While it's cooking in the cup, I air fry chicken, steak, or salmon to go with it. Then, I strain everything out so it's a dry bowl, add it to the meat, and it's good to go. Of course for this price point it's not the best tasting, but the convenience, time-saving, as well as money saving it provides is worth every penny. PS... try the mac n cheese. it's GOOD.
If you’re adding chicken to the meal then it becomes pointless, for both time saving and cost effectiveness..
@@imnotconvinced4833 They also said they like it for the nutrients... I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that chicken doesn't have the same nutrients as Huel.
Is agree with you! I just got the mac and cheese and can’t wait to try it!
Wow drunk
@@imnotconvinced4833adding chicken is an addition and optional not a necessity. So yes it is cost effective…
Came looking for a doctor review and left early because I could see a test taste from anyone.
If you’d stuck around you’d have seen the doctor review at the end 😉
@@PropaneFitness and if the video got to the point, I would have come back for more advice. "/
Damn, if only there was a way to skip forward in videos 🤷🏾♂️ -
Seriously though, I appreciate the feedback
Does Mike have a recipe for his meal? It looked so good.
it looks damn good!
anyone els wants the recipe?
I find huel good for 1 meal a day for the convenience, cost, satiated feeling. It's easier than packing a lunch or cooking every night when I get home. Wouldn't eat it everyday but I use it as an alternative to fast food for when I'm feeling lazy.
MAkes sense Jaric - big convenience points
@welcome welcome What is the benefit of huel over a normal ready meal from a supermarket. If you look at aldis slim well range, they are cheaper, just as nutritious and taste far far far better. So why bother with huel?
@@languidquid I've never had huel but I think being able to store it and have it on hand sounds like an advantage
I do the same. Huel (hot & savory or just the drink) has been great for me in those busy situations where my alternative is fast food or food that doesn't align with my nutrition goals. Rather than having something poor I know I can very quickly have Huel and know I'm getting an accurate calorie count as well as the nutrition macros/protein I need. I like the taste so far of everything I've tried. It's health food, not gourmet restaurant food so for a health food I think the flavor of Huel is fine.
I’m a nurse and sometimes I honestly don’t have time to eat. I bring my lunch and sometimes I don’t get to eat all of it. It’s a 12 hour shift, so I pack breakfast, lunch and snack. I can honestly say this might be a good option for me, but if the flavor is bad, I don’t think I’ll buy it.
Nursing shifts are brutal, it’s not an easy problem to solve without resorting to high calorie density foods!
The flavor is okay. I am a music student and use it when I want to keep on practicing, but have to eat sth. I eat a healthy breakfast and cook sth for dinner, but to get through the time in between it is great.
Nobody in the western world has got any excuse not to take a few minutes out of their day and shop for plant based fresh food I am a company director I run my own business I can work sometimes seven days a week up to 14 hours a day and I still prioritise my food shopping as this is the most essential part of my life other than my business it keeps me going it keeps me healthy you’re buying into a gimmick this is just pre-packed rubbish you’re taking the word of somebody who’s running a business for profit and accepting that this crap is as nutritious as fresh food! People who buy this crap are the Same dullards who when the government told them they had to stay indoors for two years and have an injection which was never ethically tested just obeyed like the sheep they are!🤡🙈😝
I like the green curry. Shaking the bag is crucial and it takes a few bowls to get it figured out.
That comment on the t-shirt killed me! Awesome
See the trick with making this is the same as a pot noodle, gota cover it or put a lid on makes all the difference haha
I'm a trucker on the road and the only food available is in truck stops which are terrible for you this might be perfect for me and I think I will lose weight
Thanks for this. I was tempted by hot and savory but decided to give black a go instead.
I would also like to mention how good huel can be for people who have operations such as Nissin fundoplications. I had a terrible recovery after mine and Huel actually helped me get back on track! You give a greatly fair and honest review, thank you!
Glad it was helpful and I hope you're feeling 100% now!
Eat soup made with whole foods. This huel stuff is crap
that shit is the worst thing I ate in my life and i was in prison
Off topic on an old video, I really like your kitchen it’s really cute
🙏️ thanks, I painted it myself 🖌️
It´s probably important to compare it to "what would I eat otherwise". So Im the type of guy who orders food if he doesn´t cook. And I think the potential catabolic effects of eating pizza, kebab and burger way too often are bigger than those of soy and flax seed. Could be wrong but I personally chose Huel because I can´t afford a meal prep service but still don´t wanna cook and get in everything my body needs. Another upside is that you really hydrate yourself.
I was interested to watch your video as have enjoyed many of your others.
Personally I enjoy Huel - once a year I had a one month work contract that was extremely busy and very stressful. I used to work in media and PR with a sports events and needed to be reactive. That meant sometimes not having time to eat - not ideal but that was the nature of the job.. I used the Huel Black as meal replacements twice a day (FYI: I am not a meal replacement kind of girl) and they saved the day many times.
Last year I tried the savoury meals - they didn't rock my world but were a great alternative to the sweeter shakes, plus it was nice to have a warm meal with a little chew as a change.
I also use the Huel Black and savoury for long train, car and plane journeys, knowing wholesome calorific food is tricky to buy the move (and often comes in so much plastic!).
I also use them for long hikes and adventurers - lightweight, high calorie, nutritious, easy to make food.
Not my go-to on a day to day basis, but fantastic for certain circumstances.
Thanks for the comment laura - yep, sounds perfect for when you're on the road and need something quick to replace meals.
Very diplomatically put about 'the savoury meals didn't rock my world' 😂
"byzantine period" that's gotta be a dead mans shoes reference haha
YES! Great spot
One of my favourite scenes haha@@PropaneFitness
I haven't tried the hot and savory yet, I like most of the flavors of regular huel I have tried so far, except the salted caramel which is more like bad oatmeal then anything. huel is a better alternative to not eating if you are depressed and don't always have the motivation to get out of bed let alone make food.
Yeah certainly better than nothing - I hope your depression improves Gareth. lol at 'bad oatmeal'.
I get you

Any sources available on soy's effects to lower to testosterone and act like oestrogen in the body? I was under the impression it was phytoesteogen and wasn't treated like animal/human oestrogen.
Correct. He did that mistake in my eyes too. This has been debunked a long time ago.
need to update the review. they have a bunch more meal types, new drinks, and yea
Unless they’re 5x better than the ones I tried, I’ll skip that. I still haven’t finished the bag of Thai curry flavour
@@PropaneFitness All I know is there are 7 or 8 of them now, like a mac n cheese, mexican chili, coconut curry, etc. at $3.53 a meal I was interested in trying them. and they are way too easy to make too.
What about the lead content?
One study this, one study that, we do not know Enough to make a full scientific assessment
Yep - Science is rarely definitive, this is why studies are performed and replicated
@@PropaneFitness correct, but with Enough study we then have a higher confidence with some study's then others.
Thank you for this as someone with adhd I struggle to remember to eat and when ido I don’t always want to cook and often just eat chocolate. So I wondered if this would be good for me.
Im unable to eat because of my mental health, I really wanna find a easy quick meal thing like this but it actually being a good product at the same time. Just dont have the energy to cook atm and my Adhd makes it worse.
I’d recommend seeing a doctor and getting dietitian referral
It would of helped if he followed the instructions and measured the water and did two
Flat scoops!
Does that make it taste better?
So happy you mentioned about flax. Was considering huel due to job as an emergency if my meal is not an option. The high flax content did bother me though as I am aware they are a phytoestrogens (have lignans) also aware they raise shbg which can bind up free test. I didn't know if I was overreacting but thanks for confirming my worries
I got quite a bit of pushback about the flax/soy comments, but I stand by it. Here's my full breakdown if you're intersted ruclips.net/video/zN7oxGV0ASI/видео.html
@@PropaneFitness Thanks mate. I will have a look. Regardless of what People say I've seen enough evidence including gyno to make me avoid these to products. Also soy is the most GM crop in the world

It's not about who doesn't have time to eat. It's about convenience. That is such a stupid argument
Not oppressed. Just think of situation where you're trying to stay active with a deskjob. So during a "lunchtime" in an office I won't each linch, I'll use the time going for a long walk, run or a workout to maintain activity in an otherwise sedentary 8 hours at work. Now when I get back at say 1-2 pm at the desk I DO NOT want to be trying to shovel a plate of stinking tuna salad on my face while I need to concentrate. I also noticed that digestion just doesn't handle a full meal well when you're not active for another 4-5 hours including commute.
So for me this is a great solution...Better than a sh#tty snack and satiating plus can fuel an evening workout...
lol at the stinky tuna salad imagery
“Getting blasted on shift”
That’s my kind of doctor 😎
Very informative thank you. What would you recommended, if you had any, for meal replacements for lazy people who don’t like to cook?
Here's our approach Kaz: propanefitness.com/automate-your-diet/
Or meal prep if you have more time to cook: propanefitness.com/mealprep/
I don't get out mcuch, but I just now saw this advertised on another site and I thought it was a joke because I read the word Huel as Hurl- ie., throw-up lol
Hurl drink is not a good healthy product at all. Just good marketing
Flaxseed is a big deal such a shame why did they add that
no, soy is not bad for you. All the META analysis studies show no difference for strength and muscle training. Ill get Huel tomorrow. Thanks
I didn’t say it’s bad for you. There are cardiometabolic benefits. Got a video coming up about this soon, hope you enjoy the huel - the main thing that put me off was the taste
what if I'm skinny and want to get more fat?
I'm looking into using this product as "hiking food" for a week long section hike / climbing trip. What are your thoughts on this product for that purpose? Would I be better off going through the hassle of dehydrating my own food and vacuum sealing it?
Could be quite convenient for that purpose! I hope it's a fun and rejuvenating trip!
I use it for this reason and love it! Both the savoury and the powders. I either take it in a lunchbox or in small seal bags for long trips.
His point at the end about being a bit self analytical and reflecting on a life and time spent eating/not eating. My wife and I as teachers with a young child are usually very busy. We make time to sit down and eat as the social side of eating is important.
100%! Glad to see you value the importance of time spent eating as a community thing
If someone asks how good is Huel, the response is always the same...
"Reasonably"
Not great, not terrible.
Great video. Didnt straight tell you his opinion but actually informed you on the why. Personally only wanted to know if between greasy, dubious and expensive canteen food huel would be any better and i have my answer. You have my thanks and like.
Thanks Gabriel 🙏️ - glad it was helpful. I had a horrendous canteen meal on Thursday ('donner kebab'), should have brought my huel that day 😂
Being a teacher, no time to eat
4 different different challenging subjects, 6 classes a day, limited time to prep and grade...

Wow. I was getting ready to pull the trigger. However, this gave me exactly what I was looking for in terms of how would this product affect my body overall. Thank you Doc.
Glad it helped you make a decision Randy 👌
Thank you for the feedback. Do you have an alternative product ?
@@pedromoura1797 not yet. stuck to regular food for the time being. Doing more research
Exactly what I like to see! An informed and fair review. Despite not liking the product, you still respect the company and I actually enjoyed this video. I personally really like the huel powder for when I'm at work and love the idea of having a hot meal that I can keep in my locker. I'm just not sure if I will like these enough as I'm used to cooking from scratch at home
Thanks Naomi 🙏️ - it's a bit of a risk since you have to buy 3 bags, but I'd personally just meal prep with pyrex tupperware - propanefitness.com/mealprep/
Yup. You can't prep when you have an emergency at work and or just have to fill empty positions and get forced to work 16 plus hours. Having a bag in the locker would be a god send because I can't even have food delivered to my job.
For a product that is over 50% oats which are one of the cheapest foods on the planet, the pricing is criminal. It costs less than £3 to make a bag of huel and they sell it for almost £30 a bag. All clever marketing
Oh yea? try making it then
Thanks for the review! I love cooking so this must not be for me, even though sometimes the convinience might be nice. Couldn't force myself to live like that though... three bags sounds already like a side job to get through.
Glad it was helpful Matti - I've not touched those other 2 bags.. maybe time to throw them out
I saw your movie about herbalife, where you pointed out that the ingredients were not sufficiently dosed to have effect. I was wondering what you find of huel. Is it safe to eat and do the nutrients are rightly proporionned as a meal?
100% agree with you. Eating Their Cajun Pasta right now…. Love the company, dislike the products

Have you tried the growli muesli? It's like Huel but not a shake, a chewable complete nutrition meal. My son and I are currently using this for breakfast and work time lunches
I haven't - will give it a try - thanks BB!
Wish it wasn't vegan. Hate plant protein.
I like this idea of a meal replacement drink, not because I'm too busy, but because I'm too lazy and don't care enough to make a meal or stop to eat something more for lunch than McDs drive thru for a Large fry and sweet tea ☺️ So thanks for the video, looks like I'm going to order a few bags and see how it goes 👍
I really enjoy their drinks, for me its the cinnamon swirl I go for, perfect for me because I can't eat breakfast because it makes me sick, but huel as a replacement I can stomach, I also enjoy the flavour and thickness
I was planning on eating this just as a meal to go and during work maybe with some grilled chicken, I work overnights
I'd be willing to bet that adding fresh cooked protein to this would really set it over the top. I ordered some for myself last week, so I'll give it a try.
I left my Huel in the fridge the other day when I was in a rush to get to work. As I was Huel-less I bought a portion of cheesy chips and boy did I regret my decision and felt ill afterwards!
Given the choice of cheesy chips vs huel I'd definitely be in team cheesy-chips 🍟
