You are the man! Thank you so much. There are few things that upset me as much as a camera that stops working with and endless loop like this. Take a bow, you are a hero.
Thanks so much!! Still "shame on sony" for not being able to help anyone out. Good thing there are guys like you out there to help the community. The problem looks like an IBIS problem, so for anyone trying to fix their camera, when you are rotating your camera, look at the sensor and make sure it is level when on the side, upside-down, etc. And if it looks off, tap the body a few times to get it back into position. The balance is just off and confusing the camera when it is powered on.
glad you google the problem and my video showed. you have to be gentle with the a7mii, when i had it in my camera bag i would drop the bag in the corner pretty hard 🥲
This just saved me +$400... I just got back from the camera store. Wen I showed them that error message, they just shrugged and said the repair would take 4 - 6 weeks, and start with a $35 assessment fee. The Sony website stated a $40 assessment fee and about a $400 repair. (I went to Best Buy, where the kid spent 30 minutes with me, going over a new camera option. Had to give him a thumbs up) Saw this video. One tap, all done. I was prepared to take the camera apart, as another video (very helpfully) outlined. BUT, this saved me all of that. Thank you.
This worked for me too. Thanks. I'm a pro. This happened to me yesterday at a shoot. Since I'm slowly converting from Canon, I have only one sony body, so I take my Canon system with me for back up. I had to use the Canon gear for the whole shoot. This is beyond ridiculous. Sony needs to have a world wide recall and fix this problem! No longer recommending this camera to my students!
Friend, I am so glad I found your video. I bought a second-hand aA7ii and two days later it started to fail. Look for a lot of information on the internet but very little appears in Spanish. So when I was about to locate the seller I tried this great trick and the camera works perfectly again. Thank you!!!
Bought my A72 in May 2015. Got this error as I was exploring one of the most anticipated destinations and was super bummed. I tried everything other people have. Change batteries. Lenses. Memory card. Etc. it still kept coming back. It would work sometimes. Found your video. Hit my camera. And now it works. I hope it stays that way. Reminded me of how we blew into our old video game cassettes or hit TVs lol
There is this method and there is another one that worked for me. I essentially hit menu and scrolled real quick till i got to the "clean sensor" option. It took a few times turning the camera on and off to be able to scroll all the way (as the camera locks up once the message appears). Putting the sensor into cleaning mode fixed the issue for me.
I love you man! You just saved my camera! I fallen on my back and my backpack with my a7ii took the impact and ibis was crooked even more than yours. After few taps I managed to get it back into the right position. You're my hero!
Fixed!!! So I had the same problem. I kept getting this error like a few times a week untill it stayed this way. My temporary fix was to bump it a little to free the IBIS. Yhe last time it did this, it stayed and the camera kept the error message. I tried one last time before sending it in for repair. I shook the hell out of it like It was a sports drink. Did it for a good 30 to 40 seconds. Turned it on and that fixed it! Three months now and never seen the error again!! I hope this helps others. Remove lens first to make it more easy to shake. I kept the battery in also.
sergei goncharenko Im sorry to hear that. Its been three weeks strong for me. I dont know if its because I always store it in the upright position when not using it or what. I hope it atleast last me untill I get my A7r3
it really works on my sony A7R2 same problem.. i tried several times different angle and boom it was fix in 5 minutes i guess thanks bro 😊 from PH DECEMBER 2021
Thanks for this, James. I could see the sensor was off-centre and tried lightly shaking the camera. That didn't work but then I found this video and copied your technique. Camera saved.
oh my God. i try to find the fix in many forum. but there's no one can solved it. and they need to bring the camera to the sony centre for more than a month. after found your RUclips I tried it for first time it still doesn't work, but after the second one. it like magic! thank you!!!!!!
THANK YOU for this!! I have been freaking out all morning since I was about to go to shoot with a friend to capture the central park fall foliage (which lasts only for a few more days/weeks), and was so bummed my camera stopped working. this fixed it!!!
YOOOO!!!!! As weird as this looks it worked! I went a whole shoot turning the camera on and off so it would stay on but that would only work temporarily. So I shook the camera for at least 5-10 seconds today and it works perfectly!!! Turns on and off as it should. This just saved me $300 lol
Thank you so much.I'm in my second week of my vacation in Thailand( as I'm typing this comment) and you just saved my vacation. I was about to go buy another Sony in Bangkok and wait until I'm back home to repair my broken one, then sell it on Ebay. But I'm glad I checked your video out and tried this trick. Thank you sir.
It worked for my Panasonic G9 too loll. Before I tapped it from the top (from bottom going up), my last video on stage at a festival, the video was very jittery and seems to suddenly jitter from one part to another while I'm moving. Now I've tested it again and it goes smooottthhhllyyyyy again!!! I can't thank you enough!!!!
You are the man!!!REally I am on a around the world trip, doing off road, so I guess the camera got some bumps and I didn´t what to do...I am working and no camera, no work! So, man....thanks a lot!!!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH, this worked! I was slightly panicked because my camera did this(during a shoot) after sitting on a desk all night! 😅🎉 Sheesh Sony, big oof here!
In addition to fix "Camera error...." I would suggest yet one procedure when shaking sensor doesn't work. It is simple, just follow steps exactly: Switch camera off Take battery out Switch camera ON and then Off Put battery back. Switch it ON This procedure will clean up residual electric states in camera circuits and static charge. after this boot procedure will take 1-2 seconds more time, but will shake sensor shortly, release the shooter if locked, and perform full boot up. At least it will switch camera on without "Error" This also may not work, but will make no damage to try. It help in my case.
I fix my camera before I see this video, but think it's worth to share my experience with fixing the same trouble. When I saw the error message I was thrilled because my warranty is out many months ago. But after a few useless turns OFFs and ONs, I decided to look on to the sensor and it stands not horizontal (as shown in this video). So it's obvious to me that Sensor Stuck in the wrong position then I need to place it right. I didn't tryed to slap it. I started to quickly tilt my camera and simultaneously turning it OFF and ON until I see that error stopped appearing on the screen. After that, to cement my fixing I turned on sensor cleaning program.
thanks so much for sharing this! my camera has been out of warranty for a few months. sony repair rep told me to send it in for repair. they said it would a minimum of $300. smh...
Just to add to this great video. This did not immediately fix my camera. I’m guessing the mechanism for the ibis has a bit of dirt or dust causing it to stick. When you do a sensor clean from the menu it vibrates the sensor. Mine would also not do this even though I could get to the option if I was quick. I used a sensor cleaning soft tip pad and vibrated the sensor manually fast but carefully. I turned the camera round at a few different angles. It worked a treat. Simply moving it slowly did not work. I tried that a few different times. Hope this helps anyone still having bother.
I've seen this happen on my a7ii too but it fixes itself by me turning it off and on. I'll be trying this method the next time. But I'm wondering if this has been a one time fix/solution or has this tap/bump method been an ongoing fix?
I got this problem after disassembling my A7III and removed the IR filter. The sensor is in the right place but as soon as I turn the camera on it will rotate and stay that way until the message appears, then it will correct itself to the right location but I can't do anything except turn it off. No tap or shake will fix it... Have disassembled it 4x now every time thinking it's something else.
Wow...thanks for this video! Is it related to the IBIS? Looks like your sensor was off centered or something in the video. I had the camera error too, but when I took off my lens the shutter flap was stuck. I simply flicked the shutter flap lightly and it finally retracted and resolved the issue. I'm hoping this won't happen when I'm on safari in Africa :(
James Ngo yeah I tried it but no success for me on the a6000 I've had the A6000 for some time I doubt it would be worth me sending in for repairs here in Australia
This did not solve the problem for me but still helped me to solve it. If it can not be solved by shaking: I used a sensor swap (which is actually intended for cleaning) to push the sensor to its correct position. In my case, the sensor was slightly pushed outwards towards the lens. I have no idea how this could hsve happened.
Thank you! Like the others in the comments I tried this too and it worked!! Honestly I was skeptical since it looked easy but I figured that it wouldn't hurt to try anyways. Glad I did, thanks for sharing the solution =]
Um, wow. Thanks. This totally worked on my Sony A7 Mark II. I noticed my sensor was just slightly crooked. Can I ask: is this a permanent fix, and can the sensor get crooked at lot?
Bet you didnt think this was gonna be helping people out 7 years later. I appreciate you man!
You are the man! Thank you so much. There are few things that upset me as much as a camera that stops working with and endless loop like this. Take a bow, you are a hero.

i think future release of the alpha body are corrected and fixed 😰 i got rid of the camera and switched to something lighter
LEGEND! Fixed my issue in a matter of seconds. This deserves a million views!
maybe one day haha, i hope this problems is addressed in the new generation
My shutter was stuck all the way down. And it fixed it! Thank you man!
Got to admit this really works on my Sony A7m2 - couldn't believe my own eyes when I saw the sensor off balanced. Great video, THANK YOU 🙏
glad you google the problem and my video showed. you have to be gentle with the a7mii, when i had it in my camera bag i would drop the bag in the corner pretty hard 🥲

Thank you.
last time this happened I sent it to Sony. I'm on a photo outing 300+ miles from home and it happens again! Thanks so much!
After being frustrated and tried many methods on various forums, this WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU you're a life saver.
This totally helped me when Sony's fix didn't. Thank you!!!
This worked for me too. Thanks. I'm a pro. This happened to me yesterday at a shoot. Since I'm slowly converting from Canon, I have only one sony body, so I take my Canon system with me for back up. I love you man! You just saved my camera!
I fallen on my back and my backpack with my a7ii took the impact and ibis was crooked even more than yours. After few taps I managed to get it back into the right position.
You're my hero!
THIS ACTUALLY WORKED! Wow thanks. You saved me a couple hundred bucks and at least 2 weeks worth of time sending it back for repairs.

Hi James. Are you shaking camera with lens or without (and with battery or without)?
sergei goncharenko I removed the lens, but the battery stays in!
James Hardy thanks but unfortunately error appeared again after 7-10 shoots
sergei goncharenko Im sorry to hear that. Its been three weeks strong for me. I dont know if its because I always store it in the upright position when not using it or what. I hope it atleast last me untill I get my A7r3
Im amazed i didnt actually think shaking the hell out of it would work but it looks like it did! Thanks a ton man!!
it really works on my sony A7R2 same problem.. i tried several times different angle and boom it was fix in 5 minutes i guess thanks bro 😊 from PH DECEMBER 2021
You just saved me. Had this error come up right as I'm prepping for a project and I couldn't get it to reset by power cycling. Thanks so much.
Thank you so much, you solved my problem on my new Sony A7ii!! I've thought about send it back to sony service center already!
Yup, that was it! You saved me a lot of trouble and money!!! Grateful from Austin, TX USA!
I'm really surprised but this actually worked like a charm!! Thanks!
Thanks Bro!!! You save my a6000, i got panicked when it got wrong, so i watched your video then my problem solved! Thanks Bro! Youre my hero!!
You're welcome bro!! happy shooting
Thanks for this, James. I could see the sensor was off-centre and tried lightly shaking the camera. That didn't work but then I found this video and copied your technique. Camera saved.
This worked for my xt4 Fuji camera too. Thank you! One month past warranty and nothing else worked. Genius.
You are a lifesaver. I am still in awe that it actually worked. Such a simple solution! Thanks
oh my God. i try to find the fix in many forum. but there's no one can solved it. and they need to bring the camera to the sony centre for more than a month. after found your RUclips I tried it for first time it still doesn't work, but after the second one. it like magic! thank you!!!!!!

Thank you!!! It worked on my A7M2! Took a couple try but it worked eventually!!
The trick for my A7Sii was holding down the shutter button, it doesnt always work, but its what made the difference so far
Epic thanks a lot. My a7ii arrived on day 1 in the post like this. Great easy fix. 👍

GODDAMN IT WORKED. I SMASHED IT LIKE 10 TIMES
It worked! Thank you so much!

What do you do if your curtain is down and you cant see the sensor?
The same thing
Um, wow. Thanks. This totally worked on my Sony A7 Mark II. I noticed my sensor was just slightly crooked. Can I ask: is this a permanent fix, and can the sensor get crooked at lot?
