Some great hacks and I agree with most of them however I don’t recommend using the shutter close when power off. The shutter is extremely fragile and it’s a lot easier to clean the sensor than to replace it. Plus dust just gets on the shutter and then still ends up floating around inside.
Hmm I've never had any issues with it or heard of any issues happening with it. I've been using it since the day I bought it and love that it's a feature. But this makes me wonder... thanks for the heads up!

Careful with the dust tip. I think this is a very bad idea actually from Sony. Dust on the sensor can be taken care of pretty easily, but a damaged shutter is much more expensive. Actually, there is a thick piece of glass in front of the sensor, and it is hardly as sensitive as you think. There have been numerous reports of damaged shutters because, for instance when people didn't use a lens cap and let the camera sit somewhere, and the sun burned a whole in the shutter.

@@Nayddoh I am thinking exactly what I said. I have modified several mirrorless cameras to infrared, and I can tell you the sensor is always protected with a thick stack of glass.
Excellent video, dear friend. What picture profile do you use for your studio shoots? Is it any of the built-in camera ones or s-log? And if it's s-log, what colour grading do you do on which software. Thank you.
Thanks for these setup hints. Can you make a new video showing how to configure the three memories. I just can’t figure it. Can you include record mode in it? I get annoyed when S&Q needs 1080, and when you go back to video, it has also changed to 1080 from 4k. It would be nice if it reset from a memory bank.
Hi Stefano. I have set up in video to have Memory 1 as 4K25, Memory 2 as 4k 50. For S&Q Memory 1 as HD 100fps. So if I leave the Memory on 1 and switch between S&Q 100fps HD and Video mode, it keeps my 4K 25.

Nice video bro. I am inclining towards A7iv, as I do not like the compact body/view-finder on A7Cii, also I do not like the overheating issue and lack of view finder on ZV E1. But A7iv lacks the new AI auto focus and also misses out on the full frame 60 fps and cropped 120 fps in 4K. What is your suggestion? I am confused a bit :-)
good video, I have a question, I'm coming to Sony from a Panasonic GH5, autofocus was the deal. Oh and I shoot videos only, a picture here and there so the video capability was also considered, but, was until I was using the camera that I realized how handy caped it was compared with the GH5 in term of usability. I was using the Memory recall feature too in my GH5 a lot, but when I was trying this on my Sony A7IV you can change the white balance while on the Memory recall feature it just remember the white balance that was used when set the recall, this renders the Memory recall feature useless, I really don't know why Sony doesn't fix this issue, but man o man, all cameras companies need to see what Panasonic has with their menu and usability, to me nothing can compare! Too bad I ordered a Sony and the SH5 with the awesome autofocus was not out yet, but well, that's life, maybe one day Sony will let us change the white balance while on the memory recall feature.
Do you have autofocus issues when you’re filming for a client (not sure if you freelance just found you) Idk if it’s my copy but I’m so frustrated with my version
Hi Marlon! Autofocus is almost perfect every time. I have had some issues though, not every single time but a couple of times, I will loose focus on the subject, if they turn their head to the side. This is because the A7IV has eye/face detect autofocus and not head/body autofocus. That's really the only issue I've had and it doesn't happen a lot, for the most part the autofocus is really good!
Hi man. Stumbled on your video. Great one thank you. A question dose your A7 IV reset picture count after 09999 images? Mine don’t continue to 99 ooo Thanks
How did you set up the rating for a custom button, when I try to customize that button the play back tab (which contains the training) is not an option for customization
me too. I can get it to star rate an image when in shooting mode, but only the last image on the card. When in playback mode, the custom button locks the image, even though I have it set to star rating. Did you find out how to fix that?
Please when you can, make a video about active stabilization in A7iv, I understand it has a 14% ( 50mm x 1.14) crop on the lens, so a 50mm gm lens becomes a 58mm...what i want to know it still remains 1.4 depth of field?...if it remains, than a 35mm gm 1.4 lens becomes a 40mm 1.4 (39.9), and than i buy only primes..i would love a 40mm 1.4 for sony. Another example, 20mm g 1.8 becomes a 22.8 with active stabilization and if you enable focus breathing a 24mm
I believe it's important to consider the crop factor when calculating depth of field. As you mentioned, a 50mm GM f1.4 lens would effectively become a 58mm lens with an aperture of f1.6. While I'm not entirely certain, this is what I've heard and it's worth taking into account when discussing depth of field calculations.
Stabilizing doesn't affect DOF, sensor size and aperture does. Sensor size is what cropping is and take note, your focus ratio will change. So, your f1.2 will be f1.9 with a 1.5 crop.
I’m relatively new to the video on a7IV- have setup the 1,2,3 buttons to different p settings (HD 100p, 4K 50p, 4K 25p), but she returning to the computer / Adobe Premiere, I do not see right away which video has which settings. Is there an easy way how to see this information quickly?
I don't know who would cull on the back of the small camera LCD screen... the custom button is to quickly mark the ones that the client or myself might like in the moment so it makes it easier for me to see later on my computer!
Yes it does that’s why I love it so much! It gets written right into the metadata of its file! So while I’m on a shoot I’ll star all the good ones to make finding them in Lightroom way easier!
i have a question re: crop sensor with a full frame lens. i understand the crop affects the focal length, but does it also affect the aperture of lens? As I understand it, when using full frame lens on FX30, it "crops" both focal length & aperture so I'm wondering if the crop feature is similar on a7iv's crop mode or if it just affects focal length.
Just think of it as litterally cropping the image, like with a pair of scissors or like you would do in, say Lightroom. You just make the image smaller, so of course that does not change the aperture. F4 will be F4, no matter how you crop an image.
I wouldn't do the shutter when powered off. I've seen too many horror stories of that being the cause of dead shutters on the Sony A7iv it's ridiculous. Also if there's one thing about the sony cameras it's their shutters being let's just say not the most reliable. I'd take a dusty sensor that can be cleaned out over a ruined shutter any day.
It is very annoying! Thankfully we have memory recall and the ability to separate and have different settings in each mode, which makes it significantly easier!
It is definitely more fragile but I haven't heard of a shutter breaking because of this feature. It is something to be mindful of tho and probably not worth the risk!
if you live in hot summer places (above 100 F / 38 celsius) like me with ambient temp above 40celsius this camera its just trash ! overheating indoors only checking the menu! brand new, forget about filming outdoors in daylight!
