- This was undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable days I have ever experienced as a landscape photographer. In this photo vlog, we journey to a spectacular waterfall, and I share how to capture a diverse range of images. We compose ultra-wide scenes, telephoto details, and even experiment with some creatively unconventional techniques. I sincerely hope that you all enjoy this landscape photography adventure.

What’s you favorite image from this video? Please let me know in the comments 👇
Many but the best one for me is the one u shown in the thumbnail 😇🤩💯
For sure the one when you were standing in the creek.
The wide angle of the waterfall from within the stream, but any PS tricks to restore the waterfall to its proper prominence that the wide angle minimizes?
Difficult choice but I would say the photos taken handheld and framed with the ferns and some with long exposure.
Those waterfall shots with the ferns were stellar, but for me, these majestic trees and reflections in the river at the end take the crown. But frankly, I loved all of these shots - what a fantastic location!
Such an amazing video Mate - just goes to show how many compositions there are in one spot... just need to look around and persevere...
Thanks so much man, I really appreciate it! Agreed, I went into this shoot with the intention of taking one or two shots of the falls. But came away with a very unexpected variety of images!
Brilliant video, instructive and inspirational. The POV style works really well
Woah! Nigel and Michael in one place?! Plus a wicked great photography lesson to boot?? You both have helped me take my photography to the next level. Thanks for both your great work!!
You have an eye for pictures- You can see creatively.
Your “think aloud” as you worked the scene was one of the most effective photo vids I’ve seen. We need more like this! Well done!
I appreciated it a lot too
This is one of your best videos you’ve made, Michael. Such a beautiful location with such variety of compositions even on the way forth and back. Here every photographer can learn something - great. Enough photos for a small but amazing photo book 😄👍🏼
love the drama of the shot at 7:50 Powerful!
Confession: The highest number of photography possibilities explored by a photographer at a single location 🙌👏👌 Keep on inspiring us man 🙏 loads of love 🤗📸
Amazing shots, the one @7.11 landscape short exposure was perfect. I would easily print and put that on my wall
Wow, what a place to have to yourself!
There were some others, but I creatively angled my camera and filmed in spots where people were not walking around.
Fantastic video! So many compositions. My favourite is the waterfall shot at 7.50.
Abique Falls is on my bucket list..... great stuff....!
Nice video buddy. I appreciated you taking us along
Such creative perspectives! Your videos are always an inspiration
Thank you for the very practical advice! Lots of really cool ideas that I can’t wait to use.
Well done. Abiqua is def a spiritual experience 🔥
Oh I love Abiqua. I live not to far from it. Last I visited was in the fall. You’ve really come up with some amazing compositions! Hard to pick a favorite since they are all so good.
What a GREAT video, Michael. I love the way you compose your photos, and your use of both long and short focal lengths. The abstract shots you get are amazing. Thank you for sharing your work.
Never expected to see so many beautiful captures from a single location. Thank you for sharing this with us ❤
I could watch this channel for ages. This channel is such an inspiration and I hope to create images even remotely as good as these one day
Great video - love all of the images - especially the early tight shots of the waterfall (my preference is for the faster shutter speed) and the images of the forest with the light in the distance are stunning - so peaceful !!! Thanks for all your inspiration and instruction !!
Love PoV style. I could watch a landscape PoV all day, even without the talking just to watch a shoot and take in the sights and sounds.
Great video, excellent photos
Great video Michael ! I really love waterfalls. Photographing them is always magical.
Love the experimentation. And your vid editing is perfect. The immediate gratification of seeing your final shots right after you compose is super rewarding. Thanks Michael!!
Enjoyed this video. Good to see you were not afraid to go in the water - just hoping you brought an extra pair of shoes!
That was great. We can learn just as much from your relaxed, spontaneous wandering as we can from a more scripted style. Thanks for demonstrating how we can have fun and still produce strong work. As always, outstanding photos.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks so much!
Michael, thank you very much for sharing this awesome video- so inspirational! I enjoyed the ‘being there with you’ feel of the video and appreciate all the great info you imparted while in a stunning location. Thanks again!😎
I agree with all the other comments. I love all of your videos but this one is amazing. The photos … beyond amazing.
Thats what is all about having fun in a beautiful forest and the result is Stunning !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOD Bless !!!!!!!!!!!
Watching this makes me realize that it is so easy to take a half dozen shots from the front and think we've got everything. You just showed us is there is much more if we would take the time to slow down, absorb it all and think deeply about all the alternatives. Great video Michael!
Such a great idea with the POV, very easy to follow along with your thought process on composition and setting choices. Thank you for bringing us along to this beautiful location.
I really enjoy your videos, Michael. So many photography youtubers are just too over the top with constant superlatives, but you take a no less enthusiastic, yet much more relaxed approached. It must be your Bay Area chill! I felt like I was there with you going through your various experimentations. Your workshops must be very. fun! Thanks!
Some great tips, thanks!
Love seeing how you work this scene! Love the reflections and the compositions.
such a beautiful scene. I enjoy that you love to experiment and you brought up ideas in my mind. Thanks Michael
Such a great tutorial per usual Michael. Always appreciate someone who's willing to give back to the photography community.
Incredible video…compositions are beautiful! That Zeiss 16-35 f/4 is amazing (I have one). Thanks for sharing… be safe Man! Cheers..
9.23 shot. just magical 😍
I love the way you share your incredible talent with us. It's hard to pick which images were the best because I liked them all.
While the waterfall was absolutely gorgeous I kept noticing the scenery behind you. Well done Sir. Looks like a place you can spend a whole day at and not run out of compositions.
Another great video-thanks! I love the way you worked the scene to find such variety in your compositions!
IMO you are one of the most creative and inspiring photographers on YT. I always look forward to seeing your abstract/intimate scene images. Great video and images, thanks
Thanks for sharing. What a great mornings photography! Yes, I’m with you the intimate and more abstract images are definitely worth the effort and time.
Very nice, Getting some ideas for the next time. Thanks for sharing your videos
Great video Michael! I'm always amazed at how many great compositions you can get from 1 location. Your landscapes are great but, I love your ability to find abstract patterns and detail shots. You have so many amazing shots of waterfall spray for example. This is a good reminder to not leave an interesting scene too hastily. Keep up the great work!
What for great pictures.
Fantastic! Thank you!
Great video. Love you walking us through your thought process while on site.
Bravo! 👏👏👏
Thank you for the video. That is a lovely spot and you got beautiful compositions that I would never have thought of. Many magical images there.
A true master of your craft. Seemingly effortless to capture amazing image after amazing image. But we all know, you've spent years and years and practiced with thousands upon thousands of images. You're a big inspiration for me. Thank you, Michael.
The images came out excellent! Such beautiful greens!
I’ve been binging on your episodes at night in bed. As a photo myself, they are so calming and it makes me want to explore in the mountains where I live. Thank you 🤍
As someone who enjoys capturing waterfalls, I really appreciate the different perspectives and compositions. You gave me something to think about the next time I go out. You should come out to the Finger Lakes region of NY, we have hundreds of waterfalls to choose from.
The waterfall reflection you flipped, that's a great image. Excellent video, well explained (your thought process) and lots to think about.
I've always loved this spot. Usually quiet too because of that road. I'd love to shoot it during a big freeze with ya.
Been visiting this spot since I was a teen , back in my film days . Still get up there every few years . Haven't done the winter scene yet but it's on my list and not getting any younger ! Would have to be a hellacious scramble down in .
Let’s go man, that would be a ton of fun!
Michael, as always, a wealth of alternative perspectives! Love the over/underwater shot with the gopro!
Great video Michael. Love your commentary and how you tried many compositions. And they were all beautiful. Great work!
All of those images were more than cool, Michael, they were genius. The first session, in front and steps to the side of the waterfall, are my favourites (with the faster shutter speed). And the forest and stream images too... these I think are all ageless. The slow shutter on water (if I'm allowed to say) will be an era in photography. As someone always says "It's purely subjective."
Absolutely love your channel. You make my eyes pop!
Can only imagine how nice the colours would be with a decent amount of sun getting on those rocks - great photos mate !
This video exemplifies the true joy of getting immersed in your surroundings and finding the unique compositions to showcase the natural beauty Mother Nature has bestowed upon us. Thanks for sharing.
16:21 Jokes on you! I know how these shots turned out. Straight 🔥! Looks like it was one of those days where everything clicked and flowed. No pun intended!
Just such a good,relaxing video…..with some amazing shots…..thank you.
You make it look so easy. I’d be happy with just one of your shots but you’ve inspired me!
What a great example of how to work a scene. You really tried a variety of angles, focal lengths, exposures and moved around in a fairly small area. I think many of us are not that patient to stay in one place. We feel like we might miss something and as a result we end up with average images. Thanks for the reminder of how to work a scene.
I have enjoyed this new video 🙂👍
I could feel your excitement and joy - and it shows in your images. Well done! Favorite? All of them! With love from Atlanta.
This is just pure excellence!!
Thanks for sharing your skills, can’t imagine how you came up with so many frames.
I have been here many times, have come home with mostly variety of 3/4 frames, but you just showed what’s possible with imagination ! Thank you
Thanks Micheal for a great video. Planning to photograph a waterfall in Mammoth in a few days.
Really enjoyed this video. I love seeing all your compositions.
Always love your photos and videos! So talented!
The reflection image at 9:21 is basically a double exposure; but a natural double exposure! Bravo. Exceptional.
I think that's your best video ever or almost top 3. So many interesting for improve composition and play around with different focal lens. Congrats!
Nice one Michael, looked like a great day out
Thank you so much Adam!
The last reflection - the greens in the water looks awesome!
Thank you :)
Fabulous images! Very inspiring - now, if there was only a waterfall nearby.....
I enjoy watching your perspective on the shoot. You saw things I did not and I saw things you did not. Had you turned around at the beginning of the shoot, you would have seen the beautiful tunnel of green exiting the falls.
Another delightful vblog! Very nice to watch.
Incredible! Immensely creative and inspirational. Thank you
Indeed a good "what to do as a photographer when hiking" video! Also i noticed how a "landscape" photographer after some years of getting masters, they then explore other aspects of photography such as details photography as you do, or wildlife etc. Its like you are getting a level-up.
Another great video. Thanks for taking the time to teach. Cool to see you photograph places that we live close to and visit. Made the mistake this past June of taking the first trail down on the right. My legs still hurt.
Wow location top...❤❤❤
Fantastic picture...love It..❤❤
Fantastic vlog as always. I really love your shooting style of just playing with compositions and enjoying every moment that you're out in nature. I really hope to get to the same point in my own journey one day. Thanks for being an inspiration!
Amazing to see no one in this cute place
A really great video, Michael. That location was absolutely beautiful and it looks like you came away with several wonderful images. Don't really think I can pick a favorite yet.
Nice video. Love the POV and the insight into your thought process. So many options for composition! Thanks.
The image at 14:26 looks almost magical. Your processing technique is spot on. Thanks for another great tutorial.
Great video Michael, such a great location!
Excellent 😊
one of the best videos on your channel, mate.
Love all of the images that you took in this video, thank you for sharing them
Wonderful content and excellent composition ideas, thanks Michael, I liked the wide angle shot of the waterfall in the middle showing the vegetation and texture of the basalt on the right side, and I also loved the shot toward the end when you lowered the tripod and captured the reflections of the trees getting rid of the white water in the middle, the lighting was exquisite!
amazing photograhy great video cant pick any image thay are all great cant wait for more
Such unique shots inspiring! Well done!
Wonderful video and a stunning location. The images were beautiful
That was great and boy, you really worked that scene. Top job.
The last reflective low to the water ! wow ! you have given me some more ideas to try ! Cheers from New Zealand
Holy crow, talk about creatively working a scene!!!!! 👏👏👏
Thanks so much Rick!
Honestly - how were you the only one there?!? Thank you once again for sharing your incredible photography and explaining as you go along. Love hearing your thought processes - very educational, and beautiful images as always
Very helpful! Lots of great images to choose from, but I hope you weren't hiking alone.
