I know "The Strike" is a once in a lifetime shot. But still the image I like the best is the stacked cactus image. I like ethereal looking stuff. Looking forward to the next one.
The way you story tell and show the final images, panning down slowly, timed with music. So engaging. When you said "this is not the photograph that I was just screaming about, let's go ahead and take a look at that" with the music swelling.. man! The anticipation and excitement before the reveal. You have a knack for it. I thoroughly enjoy these videos. I find a vast majority of the vlog/photo videos out there so incredibly dry.
I worked as a photojournalist covering breaking news and sports but I’ve got a lot of respect for people who can create beautiful images like this in nature, something I still haven’t learned how to do. Keep up the great work!
Wow, powerful photos! In the third photo with the cati and cloud formation, that cloud looks like a bear face, absolutely incredible! As usual, fantastic work, you are so talented!
Beautiful 🤩 The image with the foreground cactus people and the storm clouds, the cloud looks like a dragon head folding around to look at them ❤️ Happy belated birthday.
I shoot lightning photography as well and that shot where the lightning strikes the hill top with the observatory in the background is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!! That has got to be one of the best lightning photograph I have seen in a long time. Very nicely done.
Happy birthday, Michael! Great shots. I see a dragon peering down on you in the storm cloud in your picture of the cholla. That last one is a real winner.
Amazing as always Michael. Would you be willing to share your metering mode and overal exposure. As in with the settings you mentioned is the image underexposed? Since I could imagine the scenario where if you properly expose the image without lightning the lightning will just clip out everything around it. Hoping to hear from you 🙌
Crazy how nature does things. What a spectacular birthday gift you got with your lightning image. Luckily you didn’t get stuck by the cactus, unlike Mr Page while waving his hands about. Stay safe Michael 🇦🇺
I think what's most impressive is that the shot is so well balanced even with no cropping. I've never gotten so lucky as to capture a lightning strike without at least a bit of horizontal cropping.
Jesus, those are some fine shots. At 13.34 the cloud looks to me like the dragon from the NeverEnding Story facing the scene. Truly epic was that lightning shot
What a great birthday pressie.. Great Shot!!! My fav shot is the group of cactus in the foreground.. just reminds me of Neverending story, the dog dragon coming in
Before I've even watched this I have to say that this is the best lightning strike photo I've ever seen, just watched Nick Page's video on it, dude that is amazing, thank you for your inspiration.
It's often said 'you make your own luck', but never is it more obvious than when you put yourself out there, chasing light, or storms, or lightning in this case and nail the perfect shot, on your birthday no less. This is brilliant, and shows what an amazing photographer you are... most people would go the wide angle, maximise the chance of capturing lightning, and perhaps crop in. Next time I am out chasing lightning, I'm gonna try the Michael Shainblum 200mm method, and hope for something even half as amazing as your image.
Crazy good man, still so jealous you got that image with no crop. The close up of the Cholla at sunset is unreal as well. Great work
So much goodness packed into one video! This was incredible Michael - thanks for sharing it!
3rd cacti shot --- looks like a dragon in the sky. Tip top vlog; i can see why you are so pleased with the results :)
That’s what I was going to say Duncan it looks like it’s swooping down
I thought of Falcor from Never Ending Story when I saw it! ha
Yes. I saw that. It really stood out.
Absolutely loved the cactus closeup in the foreground with just the clouds. I see a dragon in the clouds.
Incredible shots man! Fantastic work! I want to go storm chasing now 😄
Absolutely insane photos! That long lens lightning shot is one of those "once in a lifetime" experiences!
Congratulations on being Blessed with one of Mothers Nature Greatest Gifts, especially on your birthday Sir!!
that lightning strike with the light trail is 🥴🙌wtf 😍
Absolutely stunning Michael 😛👌
that last cactus sunset shot is butter without the toast 🥴🙌😍👌✌🏻
Those are the moments you will never forget, no matter what. Congratulations. You got some amazing photos.
I know "The Strike" is a once in a lifetime shot. But still the image I like the best is the stacked cactus image. I like ethereal looking stuff. Looking forward to the next one.

The best birthday presents are the ones you get for yourself! Terrific!
What a birthday, what a photo.
Breathtaking scenes
10:08 and on perfectly captures the raw panic of pulling up AS the bolts are dropping! :)
That lightening photo is unreal. It's basically the photographic version of exactly what a child would draw in the scene. Stay safe.
I'm Hooked...What energy and beauty in the videos and photos on this trip. Will hate to see it end! HB Michael
What an incredible birthday present. Fabulous photo and so very happy for you.
Wow - that cloud on 5:33 looks like a dragons head! Nostrils and all. Amazing. Now to see what happens next... :)
