- A vaginal yeast infection is a fungal infection that causes irritation, discharge and intense itchiness of the vagina and the vulva - the tissues at the vaginal opening. Caused by an overgrowth of Candida (a normal bacteria in the vagina), it can effect up to 3 out of 4 women at some point in their lives.
Its important to remember a yeast infection is not a STI (sexually transmitted infection) but there is an increased risk for one at the time of first regular sexual activity. There's also some evidence that infections may be linked to mouth to genital contact (oral-genital sex).
There are medications that can effectively treat yeast infections. Please know that if you have recurrent yeast infections - four or more within a year - you may need a longer treatment course and a maintenance plan.
Yeast infection symptoms can include:
Itching and irritation in the vagina and vulva
A burning sensation, especially during intercourse or while urinating
Redness and swelling of the vulva
Vaginal pain and soreness
Vaginal rash
Thick, white, odor-free vaginal discharge with a cottage cheese appearance
Watery vaginal discharge
Complicated yeast infection
If you experience any of the following you might have a complicated yeast infection:
You have severe signs and symptoms, such as extensive redness, swelling and itching that leads to tears, cracks or sores
You have four or more yeast infections in a year
Your infection is caused by a less typical type of fungus
You're pregnant
You have uncontrolled diabetes
Your immune system is weakened because of certain medications or conditions such as HIV infection
When to see a doctor
It is always best to speak with your doctor if you sense something abnormal about your health, but especially if:
This is the first time you've had yeast infection symptoms
You're not sure whether you have a yeast infection
Your symptoms aren't relieved after treating with over-the-counter antifungal vaginal creams or suppositories
You develop other symptoms

@User-uk8nkI’m not sure yeast infection can lead to that but I had it two times already and I have it now again and you shouldn’t be scared to tell her cause then you just go and see a doctor and I didn’t even go to gynecologist I only went to a private lab where they took a swab, then I showed the result to my doc and she gave me a cream for it and it was cured.

Yes your Vagina is very sensitive, it can be from strong detergent, what underwear material you wear ( cotton is the best), soaps you use down there. You do not have to wash with soap in the inside of your vagina! around it and your buttocks yes. The inside warm water/hot, soak especially after cycle. You have to becareful what you put down there. Medicine (antibiotics) can also cause yeast infections.

Aside the itching and burning sensation, there’s no other symptoms not even discharge, but did HVS and it says high growth of yeast, how possible is this?

depending how bad you may have to see GYN. I hear yogurt is good for it also. Over the counter i hear don’t really work. Your GYN may prescribe something that you may have to insert at night before bed and give you a cream that you can put in the inside that will east the burning and itching.

They usually give you antibiotics because it’s a bacteria. There’s no at-home treatment. Go to an urgent care if you have these symptoms to get rid of it

What to do when the white discharge is gone but i still have the tiny cracks and small cuts on my vulva??? Bcus they are also uncomfortable when i wear underwear and although not painful they burn when i pee. Please assist me with answers
