If you look at the vin tag in the door jam you will notice it says Blue Diamond. It was a joint venture truck assy bi international for Ford. It has a international chassis with a ford cab, with the international 6.0. The 9 pin diag connector is a standard connector in the truck industry. It's been out there for over 20 years. The connector before that was a 6 pin connector. I am a tech of 40 years this year and been with international for 33 years. Worked on these alot. Once you get the updates done to them they do pretty good. If the IPR circuit fails while running it will not log a fault for that circuit. If you do a key on engine off standard test it will check that circuit and if failed will give you a fault then. Alot of those ipr valves I find are missing the heat shields that go around them do to the location is difficult and they will fail due to temp . If you crank on engine for 10 sec and have no icp it will log a fault for unable to build icp during cranking.
Do you recommend any basic tool for diagnostic on these and maybe also compatible with the 2000 Era gmc topkicks? I and killing myself stuck in California working on this exact same truck. Fuel pressure was zero so I added an electric boost pump, now I'm up to 60 psi. Ipr was allowing air thru, I changed that. It has a new ice valve also.
We had a 2006 F750 that had a Cat Engine. That thing would seriously haul the mail. On our 6.0 and 4.5 liters we bought out filers in bulk from the International dealer in bulk. It was the same as the Ford (Motorcraft filters) but so much cheaper to buy. We bought the Motorcraft Cetane Booster from our Ford dealer and had very few problems over the years. Great find Cuz!!!
OH YEA Arod ! New school educated man goin old school repair method. This is what sharpens you skills as a mechanic brother ! It may take you longer to diagnose but the value you get in education and experience is absolutely priceless.
When I bought my 05 F-350 back in 2012 it had one of those aftermarket filters changed it out soon as I seen it. When I had to do a welded EGR I replaced the IPR valve easy to get to when the top of the engine is stripped off.
Yup...... I've seen many a share of my 6.0s in on the hook for a failed IPR caused by use of those aftermarket oil filter/cap assemblies. Fun fact. A brand new out-of-box IPR should ohm out at exactly 6 ohms when checked between the pins. I noticed the fuel filter is definitely aftermarket as well, since it should be identical to the ones used on the 7.3 F-250 to F-550 if I'm not mistaken (FD-4596). While you were working under there, it reminded me there are at least three different rear engine covers for these engines depending on the transmission behind it. The one you were working on, obviously has an Allison automatic with the circular shaped SAE bellhousing bolt pattern if I'm not mistaken.
Hey Arod, what do you think of GM’s unofficial release of the new 2023 Duramax having 505 hp and 1085 tq !! If that’s the case you KKNNOWWWWW that Ford will not allow GM to have or enjoy any segment of the truck market they OWN for even one day. Oh boy !!!!! The 2023 6.7 just may be getting a substantial boost in HP and TQ. Do you think it’s possible for Ford to be able to safely increase power to that above what GM may be offering with just a reflash or reprogram of the computer ? Or would it require some parts to be changed ?? I love horsepower wars !! We all win !!
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I have saved up 85k and was about to order a 2022 Tremor, in your opinion would it be better to order a 2022 or just wait until I can order a 2023 ? What would you do ? In theory, can’t you just unplug the IPR and verify start? That’s what I’ve done on 7.3s I don’t exactly remember if the IPR and ICP on a 6.0 has the same circuit layout as a 7.3.
They're both the same. If you unplug IPR it will not start. Your probably thinking ICP. Even if there is something wrong w/the IPR, unplugging the ICP has no bearing.
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod likely so. I know unplugging one can force the truck into a failsafe state. Been a while and my brain is a little fuzzy. Lol I do however see they have 2 different up pipes on that truck.
Normally if you do not hear injectors cycle and click at key on before crank - its the FICM! That always my first diag step, from there its the high pressure oil and all the associated leaks using the same jumper cable to test voltage signal, then injecting air and going down the rabbit hole with IPC, STC, stand pipes, etc.
